I got you! Email me the specs you want on the utility iron, loft and shaft. Also sounded like Wesley wants one of the utility irons also so let me know those specs as well. adam@elitefitgolf.com
Adam built my new Tacomo 301 CB/MB combo set with the Axiom 125x shafts and they feel phenomenal. Even at a shorter length and he was able to get my swing weight where I wanted Abeto delivered them to me in California promptly. Highly highly recommended for any builds in the future
I got fitted into the nippon. I had played Dynamic Gold and Project X in before. But I had a huge miss with the long irons with the Modus. I couldn’t feel the head at all.
Spot on with the description of the Modus in all aspects. Just took out Modus 120x out of my clubs because it felt like swinging a board. And like he said, it feels like I had to swing super hard to get distance.
@@danrichter9864Surprising. The Modus 120 plays very soft to flex. The 120 X flex is equivalent to a Modus 105 S. Usually it's DG and Project X that feel like rebar.
I wish other big brand Oems would get a clue on designing a great head like the CB. I finally left Mizuno because of all the gimmicks. This is a great design! Even Bettinardi has come out with a great iron!!
The Modus 130’s soft stepped 1x were my gamer shafts in a Mp69. Weight after cutting is 120 grams and a very high balance point shaft so D 2 would feel stiff. They get up and flatten out and stay put as you can see on your test for roll out. Those 130 x shafts are probably closer to a 2x!
That's a great video! I think dynamic gold is with the stiff buttom section always my choice. But maybe in a 120 specification, I'm old. I like the takomos, but if you i order it a set of with specifications, the set isn't really cheaper than other brands irons. If i order s set of mizunos or Titleist ironside for example, i have the choice of between different shafts and grips, i can get the irons longer in length, with more or less loft, upright or flat and all with the same swing weight. Here you are doing the job for the bryanbros - and if i order a set build like others i can order in the market, the price will be nearly the same at the end... So it's a story for all narrowed by the takomo marketing. And i hate it if a business is build only on a good story.... But again, your video here is great and very informative!
Can you do a video of the 2 different shafts takomo offers as far as the kbs tour and c taper lite? Would be good for us not as good as bryan bro golfers 😂
this is really interesting....I played X100 for years, moved to a KBS Tour-V 120X to drop some weight as I'm getting older and looking for something less "noodly", but the KBS ended up too boardy...I eventually got fit for the Modus Tour 120X, and by a mile the Modus feels softer and easier to swing than my previous shafts, absolutely love the bend profile AND my launch came down which was really welcomed because I've always struggled with high ball flight....horses for courses hey, cheers
Love ur videos! Have a question. I currently have takomo combo 301s. Would like to have the 4 and 5 101t and 6 and 7 201. How can I order just the heads? Any help would be appreciated.
AJ, i went to Takomo website and only saw complete sets for sale. Unless i missed something, is there a way to buy their iron heads independently? it looked like in your videos you opened a new box of Takomo iron heads with no shafts. thank you for any insight
Correct. Just like everything in golf, no industry standard for lie, loft, length, weight, any of it. In this case we were going off the Takomo 301 starting lie angles.
Hi I’m playing Ping I210 with modus 105 stiff shafts my Question is can you recommend a shaft for the takomo 101t irons lost a bit of distance due to age 65 current handicap 7.9 I’m thinking about KBS Tour lite regular or graphite any recommendations would be appreciated 👍🏴
Lighter won't guarantee faster swings and longer shots. It's often the opposite so I would definitely test out some different weights first. Be aware the 101t has pretty weak lofts for a hollow body iron so it's not always the best option for someone looking for more distance.
I bought a set of Takomo 101s with KBS tour lite regular steel shafts. I have to admit, I don't really like them. I'm 76 and losing a lot of club head speed, but I can't stand a soft flex shaft. The KBS shafts feel really heavy and stiff. So, I think I really need a lighter graphite shaft. Wish I'd paid the extra $100 and got their Obsidian shafts. What I really wanted was the UST Recoil shafts, but they didn't offer them. I love the P790's with those shafts! I wonder if you have any comments on Takomo's Obsidian shafts, who makes them, etc. I'd appreciate it... I used to be a fairly good single digit player (shot 83 yesterday), and I probably should have bought the 101T heads instead of the 101s.
I'm 16 and making clubs is what I want to do, all I have are a bunch of regular flex steel harrison driving shafts, is there anyway to make that into an iron shaft or a wedge shaft? I'm just curious because I'm planing on buying takomo 101t irons for my upcoming golf season and have some shafts for them but the wedges I don't have anything for. So I was hoping there would be a way to build my own wedges with what I have.
Great video! I'll be ordering Takomos this week, but I have a question. I'm 6'2" and I'm ordering 1" longer shafts. How much do I need to change the lie angle? Am I changing it more flat or more upright, and how many degrees do you think?
It depends on the length of your arms, your posture, and your hand position at impact. Hard to make a guess on that though if you are 6'2" and going a full inch over, I'm not sure you would need upright. More likely flat or no change.
I play a 5.5/115g Project X LZ and have another set of irons that came with the NS Modus 130 TourX shafts. I dunno how any golfer, pro or otherwise, plays the Modus THAT stiff. Feels stiffer than half inch rebar. If you hit anything other than the sweet spot, your hands feel like they exploded. Not fun.
I used to have The NS Pro Modus3 120 130g Tour-X on my blades. And I did see and find the ball flight be higher than what I am used to and what I like. Since on my previous clubs I had KBS C-Taper 130g/X, and getting older and loosing some of the chs, I reshafted the Modus3 to 125g/S+ C-Tapers and the ball flight settled to what suites my eye and what I like to play. When fitted first time for the C-Tapers, I had X-100 on my MP69s. And they felt flimsy. Dispersion was rather wide, and that got sorted by the C-Tapers. People often say the C-Taper is like a numb steel rod, but to me, chs at 93 mph on 7 iron even today the feel is different, solid and responsive compared to the Dynamic Gold’s rubber band -like long lasting bend at impact and lazy kick compared to the firm response I get from the C-Taper. I think for the Modus3 TX and S+ or X C-Taper you need to have the swing speed up in the at least low to mid-90’s for them to work properly.
Thinking about doing the same!! AJ, I tried the modus one time at a fitting in 2019 and I could NOT find the club face to save my life, went everywhere except where I aimed and 20-30 yards shorter (6iron). Does that correlate to driver shafts ? Back then the 2 shafts, for irons, that fit me best were the kBS C Taper-lite Xflex soft stepped (favorite) and the Project X LZ 6.0 standard. I tend to be an aggressive swinger. Should I get refit and try any different shafts or do you think that if they fit me then they probably still do. I’m in south Florida not in Atlanta where you are 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️..
Played Modus 130X since 2016 coming from PX 6.5 and X100; I definitely seek the launch these provide. In an iBlade that setup is about as high launch you can find especially considering 130g shafts. To me in motion Modus 130 feels a lot softer than when you stand statically and do a waggle test. Heavy loaders dream!
I purchased the 101's with the Obsidian shafts and I didn't care for them. I purchased my 101's in the Aerojet i95 shafts and I love them. It changed the whole feel when I switched to the steelfiber
Love the shaft differences, but for me the more telling part is the 2* flat versus 1* flat over standard. I would have to gather from that both of them are using the flatter lie angle to negate some of the draw spin they put on the ball with there swings. Something I think a majority of pros do.
I agree with you about that Nippon shaft, swinging a pipe with no give. My favorite all time wood, hybrid, and iron shaft goes to the Cobra Aldila DVS line of shafts. I should have never traded off my Cobra S2 Max 3-6 hybrids 7-GW iron set with the DVS shafts. Still playing the DVS shaft in my driver and fairway woods. By chance do you know the bend profile in the DVS shafts
Bend your irons stronger would be my first recommendation. That's the only guaranteed way to change launch. If you are looking at shafts, I would try something with a different profile and see what happens. Don't worry about what the shaft says it does, just see what you do with that shaft. Maybe a classic like Dynamic Gold S300??
im curious on how the Modus 130s and 120s differ. Is it just weight? I was fit into the 120s with my Ping i525s. Down the road I ordered a i525 UW to add to the set and did the 105 since the 120 was on back order. I cant hit the 105. Its really weird. I didnt think the difference would so drastic.
Nippon Modus shafts vary by a huge margin. The 105, 115, and 125 are all stiffer lower launch. The 130 is as covered, a very unique profile that only suits certain golfers. The 120 is a softer feeling mid launching shaft that will fit the greatest number of rec golfers.
I enjoy your channel so I just subscribed. Question about regripping a long putter with a 14" Superstroke grip. The shaft diameter is .620 and the grip is designed for a .600. I tried but the grip sticks about half way on. So I have to pull it off. Any Suggestions. Thanks
My best advise is grip tape the entire area even past where the grip ends, use liberal amount of solvent, get the tip of the grip started and then just push hard and fast. It will stretch and fit over the shaft but you need to be more "persuasive". Don't worry about getting it on straight right now, just get it on and then make any alignment tweaks. Once the tape is dry you can remove any tape that sticks out past the grip.
That's a complicated question. A lot of swing weight is dictated by the weight of the component pieces used and the length so hard to give a blanket answer. That said, it's hard to get a lightweight graphite shafted iron as heavy a swing weight as a similar spec'ed out heavy steel shaft.

I don't do much with heavy graphite shafts. I would guess that the Axiom 125 would be pretty close.

Do people with heavy shafts generally have lighter swing weights?
