  • I had a total hysterectomy laparoscopic (LAVH) with the Da Vinci Method on April 11th 2016. I had my uterus, both fallopian tubes, left ovary and cervix removed.
    I had this performed in hopes of easing my chronic pain condition PCS or Pelvic Congestion Syndrome.

    Thank you for sharing a video. I had hysterectomy recently and I have been home for recovery. In a way I wanted to look up videos of how it was done and I came across your video. Although mine had some complications, knowing that I wasn't the only one, helps.

      Yes! 10/14 was my surgery day. I have been recovering ok. I'm 9 weeks post op right now and healing decently well. I still have a few stitches in my vaginal cuff, but other than that I feel awesome. I've had had two incidents where I've over done it, start cramping, and have excessive vaginal bleeding (5 weeks post op and then again today). Other than that I've felt normal. Hormonal wise I feel better than normal. I have in a sort of constant PMS state and now I feel much calmer never any ups or downs. Though at the moment I'm pretty crampy :(

    Thank you for your video. How was your Hysterectomy performed, abdominal or? Did you have a total hysterectomy or did they leave your ovaries in. Do you know how long your actual surgery was? I'm having mine in mid September but I'm being sent home the same day. Unless it's an abdominal hysterectomy they don't keep you in hospital here. Also did you have a catheter placed in or not (that's my biggest fear) Sorry for all the questions, just trying to do some research ahead of time. Glad to see you in great spirit's. I've endured 19 surgeries so far and I always make sure the whole OR team is smiling or laughing too. Your friend gave you great advice because it really helps. I also always Thank everyone in the OR before I'm put asleep. Thanks again

    • @LoseitwithBlair
      @LoseitwithBlair  7 лет назад +1

      Mine was preformed via the davinci method which is a robotic laproscopy procedure. I had everything removed expect for my right ovary. I was in surgery for about 3 hours roughly. I had a catheter placed but was able to get up and go on my own not too long after recovery. I'm in a great support group on Facebook for hysterectomy. I would be more then happy to help you get in there if need be? Good luck next month lady

      +Blair Dreessen HI doll and thanks for your reply I appreciate it. I'm having mine done via LAVH method but not with the Davinci robot. I wasn't told about a catheter so hoping it's not happening unless it's after I'm put asleep. Also not sure how long you were in the hospital for? Here in Canada they send you home the same day unless it was an abdominal hysterectomy. I'm keeping both my ovaries unless they see something that requires one or both to be removed. How was your pain when you woke up in recovery and the following week or so after your procedure? Thanks again for your reply as this is one surgery I'm not looking forward to. I was told 6 week's off work as well.

      LaWanda Sivels , just look up Hyster Sisters on the Internet and join. I'm not on FB so not sure if they're on there but I signed up via my email address and answered a few questions. I had my LAVH Hysterectomy 6 month's ago and I'm still having complications. I had to have a blood transfusion during surgery and stayed 2 day's then I signed myself out of the hospital. I'm still bleeding everyday as if I were on my menstrual cycle. I have a large cyst now on my right ovary and don't feel well daily. I'm not sure what my next step is but I wish I wouldn't have went through with it at all. Hopefully your's went better but sorry I don't know about whether they have a fb group. I would imagine they do and if like any other group just ask to join. Hope this helps 💕

      am ash, hello there! not as bad as I thought it would be, actually. and it's not really "pain" but more of like cramping. I take my meds before the last dose wears out. usually between 5-6 hours. I am having pain with urination tho. I had my husband drop off urine sample at my doctor's clinic. the urinalysis and culture both came back normal. so now they want me to come in this Thursday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's nothing to be concern of.
      Good luck on your procedure! I'm sure you'll be nervous and freaked out like i was, but you will be asleep the whole time. Sending prayers your way. God bless. 😊

      Stephanie Taylor, do you know what type of Hysterectomy you're having? Abdominal, vaginally or laproscopic/vaginally? I'm also having mine, September13th but not having my ovaries removed by my choice. I'm 44 but have suffered from Fibroids and Endemetrois since I was 22 years old. I had 4 surgeries and they finally said I definitely need a Hysterectomy. I know they don't often perform an abdominal hysterectomy anymore unless it's their only option. I'm having mine done via the laproscopic & vaginal method. I wasn't told how long I would be in the OR though and everything I read varies but usually 1-2 hour's or so. I've also read that it requires 1-3 day's in hospital where here in Canada your sent home the same day unless it's abdominal. I was also told 6-8 week's off work for me personally. Have you watched a Hysterectomy surgery online here, from beginning to end? It may help relieve your anxiety about your surgery. Also don't be afraid to let everyone know that day you're anxious, especially the nurses so they can give you something to relax before your taken into the OR. I'm sorry you feel nervous but try and relax, it's a routine surgery with very minimal complications. If you need someone to talk to feel free to reach out to me and I will do what I can to help you. If not I wish you all the best and let me know how you make out. HUGS

      +Surfergrl72Roxy thank you so much for your response. The plan is to have a partial. I would like to keep my ovaries as well but he's not sure if that will be possible. I have severe endometriosis. I had laproscopic surgery done last August to remove lesions and it didn't help much. The abnormal bleeding and pain is back! He wants to do my surgery laproscopicaly and with a robot??? I've never heard of that. I'm just worried about the recovery. I care for my mother and I work a lot! I'm also in school so just scared that I'll be done awhile. Good luck to you and blessings!!! Thank you for your help. :)

    • @SURFERGRL72RAKM
      @SURFERGRL72RAKM 8 лет назад

      +Stephanie Taylor Yes I also have suffered from severe Endemetrois and Fibroids since I was 22 years old. I was never able to have children but my career was so demanding that I was ok with it. Now with my Hysterectomy coming up I'm actually sad that I will definitely never be able to have children. I was told it's normal to feel such a loss. Actually with your Robotic hysterectomy your healing time is actually less than by any other method. Your Dr is actually performing the surgery through the Robotic instruments and not physically touching you at all. He or she will make the tiny incisions for the Robotic procedure and make sure it's in place. Then step away to the control panel so to speak and guide the instruments and perform your Hysterectomy that way. It's less invasive and therfore the healing process & time is a lot faster for you. Only certain Dr's are certified to perform Robotic surgery as they spend many month's or year's practising. Those surgeons are the best at what they do so you're in great hand's actually. You should be under Anesthesia for about 2 hour's, maybe less. Usually they don't take your ovaries unless you're at a high risk for ovarian cancer or if you are close to going into natural menopause. Otherwise they prefer to leave them in for nature's sake. You will be back on your feet in no time but definitely no heavy lifting for awhile. Look up Robotic Hysterectomy Surgery here on RUclips. You will find full length live surgeries and you will know exactly what you will be having. I hope I didn't say anything to scare you but honestly that's the best case scenario for having a Hysterectomy. If you can bring yourself to watch the surgery online it will ease your anxiety. ALSO have you tried a new medication on the market specifically for Endemetrois and the pain associated with it? It's been prescribed in Europe for 20 year's but recently was approved for use in Canada and the USA. You take 1 pill a day everyday almost like taking birth control pills. It can take 2-3 week's to initially start working but has virtually NO side effects. If you're interested I will give you the name of the medication? NO I don't work for any pharmaceutical company (lol) I just know you mentioned having to look after your Mom plus school and it may be worth trying before committing to Surgery. Let me know and you're welcome, no thanks needed but appreciated. We women need to band together and help one another. I saw your post/reply to this video and had to see if I could help :-)
