  • I had a total hysterectomy laparoscopic (LAVH) with the Da Vinci Method on April 11th 2016. I had my uterus, both fallopian tubes, left ovary and cervix removed.
I had this performed in hopes of easing my chronic pain condition PCS or Pelvic Congestion Syndrome.

Very informative and to the point video. There are some people on you tube that do make it sound like it's a walk in the park. It's not. It's painful and every day is different. People if you are going to have this surgery let it be known that it is major and there is going to be lots of pain and different things you may not have anticipated. Not to scare anyone but knowledge is power. Thanks!!

Shirin Shaikh thanks for sharing and supporting other women on this journey. I truly want women to know what to expect so they don’t over do it.

Thank you so much for this video! I am on day 12 post-op (laparoscopic total hysterectomy and leaving ovaries.) I have been fortunate that my spirit is usually good. I am, however, still in a lot of pain and as you stated easily fatigued or even exhausted. I had anticipated that at this point I would be able to return to many of the activities around the house I had previously done. This is just not the case!!!! Even doing the simplest things send me back to bed in crazy amounts of pain. I am trying my best to take it slow. My husband and teenage children are the support system I am reliant upon. My husband is very understanding and is beyond helpful when he is home from work. My boys, on the other hand, are tired of doing things for me and didn't expect my recovery to take so long. So I am having to continually remind them I need their help. My doctor visit is scheduled for 5 weeks post-op and as far as I know, I'm recovering normally. I still have visible bruising and the incision sites are mostly healed but very sensitive. So, again, thank you posting! It was good to know that someone, aside from myself, has felt quite similar!!! Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Yea the recovery time was slow and I could tell my husband didn't really prepare himself mentally for how long it really was once we got into the thick of it haha! How are you doing now?

I'm day 5 post op from my davinci total hysterectomy. I have 1 remaining ovary.
I too, am so over this. I just want to feel normal. I had laparoscopic surgery 4 weeks before my da vinci hysterectomy, that's when they removed my left ovary and tube and discovered cervical cancer. So I had already been doing recovery from that laparoscopic surgery and then right into this much more involved and painful recovery process. I'm tired.
I didnt get that nice sweet story of waking up from surgery just feeling groggy and tired and a little sore.... I woke up crying my eyes out and choking back loud sobs cause my pain was terrible. It took them about 2 hours to get my pain managed enough where I could rest. I still went home that day. But it's been a struggle at home. The constipation was awful... i finally got in front of that now and am keeping vigilant to take colace.
I am bummed I didnt get to be one of those women who says they felt fine and were up and going in a week and had to try to remember they had major surgery.
I simply cannot forget for even a moment that I had surgery because I hurt, I'm tired, I ache, I'm emotional even tho I still have one ovary and I can barely do anything for myself. I'm going bonkers and it's still only the first week of my 6 week recovery restrictions.
This is so much harder than I was prepared for.

I took stool softeners and eventually laxatives and the laxative worked less than 10 min after taking it. however, I wish I had known this would be a problem.

yea, like day 3 I noticed that I was in SEVERE pain related to constipation. I took a bunch of oral stuff and a suppository. every since, if my pain level goes up its usually that I need to go #2. so I drinkagnesiuk citrate and as soon as I go my pain level goes from a 7 to a 2. Now I take 2 stoll softeners everyday and it keeps me regular, my pain is much more controlled now.

Oh yea the constipation was unreal haha! How are you doing now in your recovery lady?

  • @babykat1969

I am 8 days post op. No constipation, thank God, but then I'm not taking the pain meds either. They simply do nothing for me. I guess i'm cursed in that way. I have an extremely high tolerance for pain meds. Most do nothing for me. I am having cramping really bad sometimes, but other times I feel normal. It can be deceptive. I feel like, even just eight days after surgery, I want to do dishes, or some of the things I have done before surgery, but I'm scared to. I don't want to bring on pain when I am basically defenseless against it. A major problem I am experiencing is intense itching at the incision sites. Especially the top incision! I know I can't put anything on it to ease the itchiness. I still have my band aids on, changing them after every shower. But if I even barely brush by the band aid, I feel like the itchiness will drive me insane! I hope my surgeon has a remedy for this when I see him on the 23rd of this month! I hope you are doing well today! God bless!

My 2-week checkup was done on the 9th day (16th of sept) and low grade fever throughout... 102f on eve of 10th. Sharp fast pain shoot through my ytussy. Lower rt portion of ab and back hurts all the time.
My doc says i just saw a patient that had a hysterectomy and she was ready for work what's going on here😒...I'm thinking in hindsight excuse me I had a cyst removed from one ovary, endometrius everywhere extra work ....scar tissue on bladder, scar tissue in pocket in front rectum, scar tissue from multiple cesareans.cleaned that up. So instead of listening to everyone elses timetable we have to listen to our own bodies. Plus I have lupus like symptoms and low cortisol. So our situations are different.
I pray you all a good recovery forget fast just recover rt.
For constipation I am on 1- gas-x tablets and 15ml of milk of magnesia a day and that flushes me maybe it will help some of you.

I’m almost 5 weeks out and still not 100% I’m a nursing student and didn’t take a break and went to class the day after I got out of the hospital and clinical (12 hour shift) 1 week after and it stalled my healing so much!! This healing is taking me longer bc I didn’t take care of myself 😖👎

Tomorrow I have the genetic test to see if I’m at risk for ovarian cancer. If I am then I will waste no time. I am 30 and no kids so if I have the gene then my life will CHANGE. 1. Get pregnant 2. Double Mastectomy 3. Hysterectomy. I’m terrified even though the results could go in my favor but given my family history I’m not hopeful. Thanks for making these videos

I am positive for the brca mutation, and am having my hysterectomy in the morning. They're taking my remaining ovary, so yipee.. menopause at 33.
Best advice I can give is that if you are positive, find a team of docs you truly feel comfortable with. It helps make the process so much easier. Best wishes!!
