    I was really surprised that you didn't rank Blind at A or even S tier. Not because of the potential for loops, but because if you Blind the main power stack of your opponent and he can't dispell it in the same round, that can decide the battle right there. I would definitely rank it above Stone Skin and Shield.. even in battles against the map, Blind is often a great option to prevent losses.

      Well, that's only the case if he already used his cast, so usually it doesn't play as big of a role as other spells like implo, chain, etc.

      100% blind is S tier. And force field s WAY too situational to justify that high of a rank. Higher than Fly? OMG no. Being able to cross terrain you have NO other way to cross is huge.

      Certain troops have special abilities. Check the bottom left of the unit card.

    Imo magic arrow should be higher rating since it has good potential to carry the early game but otherwise I agree

    Good stuff as always! GJ!
    I have few things to add though and hopefully someone will find it usefull :P
    1. Bless gives you max dmg + 1 with advanced Water Magic, expert makes it mass version.
    With Your Titan example average dmg is 50 (40-60 range) and bless makes it 60/61 so it is at 20/22% bonus dmg.
    Same goes for Curse: min dmg - 1 is in effect with advanced Fire Magic and it can be better than mass Shield in some cases, like Royal Griffins/Dragonflies You mentioned. Their dmg goes down from 4,5 average (3-6 range) to 2 which is more than 50% reduction (granted by advanced/expert Shield).
    These spells are even more effective with Air/Storm Elementals: 5 dmg on average changes into 9 or 1 respectively which is 80% increase/reduction.
    2. Fly always remove terrain penalty but without air magic it also increase cost of movement over different terrain.
    If You don't have Air Magic at all or only basic AM, horizontal moves over obstacles (trees/mountains/objects/guards) cost You 140 points, with advanced Air Magic they cost 120 points and with expert AM they cost 100 movement points.
    If You are flying over roads or normal terrain there is no such penalty and road bonus is applied (unless You fly over monster blocking the road). it also takes in consideration Pathfinding/Wayfarer's Boots and will always choose lower cost possible for calculating movement.
    3. Meteor Shower hit 7 hexes so it can hit 7 different stacks of creatures in ideal circumstances :P

    I've played this game as a child, only to pick it up again this year (roughly 18 years after I 1st played) and boy do your videos fucking help man.
    I forgot how unforgiving it can be at times.
    And I ALMOST forgot how FULFILLING a victory feels.

    Good list, know this is already a couple years old, but do still want to comment on prayer as its probably one of my favorite spells.
    If you have a fast moving unit to cast first, AND assuming you have something that makes your troops move faster/move closer (tactics or an artifact that improves unit mobility) casting prayer in my opinion is one of the most powerful turn 1 bombs you can drop on an enemy. It may not be able to get all your units across the map turn one like haste (hence why you NEED tactics or an artifact for this to work) but if your units are closer not only are they fast enough to close the distance, but youve also just boosted all their essential stats, importantly their damage. Ive gotten about three or four games now where I was lucky and got prayer as Castle, and oriented my strategy around it using Tactics to bomb enemy armies before they could cast or react. Underrated spell under the correct conditions. (I do agree that Haste as a general rule is better)

    Town Portal rules all, especially if you have high spell points and expert earth magic. Granted it does take experience and multiple towns and armies to be truly effective, but a definite game changer.

      Completely essential on any map that is large size or bigger, probably also quite essential on medium maps. I can see it being less useful on a small map, where it's almost faster to just walk and very hard to get the spell before game is over anyway.

    Magic arrow is one of the most essential spells in the entire game and probably the only damage spell you have before week 2. It's either good in the early game, where you use it to weaken guards and creature banks and even in late game, when you have to kill enemy heroes that sneak on the map. The most important thing is that it works for every magic. I don't really know why you assume that it's on the same level as firewall or death ripple...
    Also how is the anti-magic in A and not S if it wins the game in most of the cases (at least for me), you just cast it and ALL of the spells above, won't work on it. The best thing is that you can actually buff your creature before casting Antimagic which makes it really OP.
    And 'view' spells are super good because you actually know what is going on on the map. Especially view air, because you got to know your opponent's position. It's trash if you play against computer.
    Another OP spell is Dimension Door, on XL maps with underground, you can cast it twice a turn and it basically wins you the game because you can reach anything you want on the map. Even in L or XL without undergrounds it helps you reach something on the map, including your opponent.
    Meteor shower is a spell that allows you to break through anything, even Jebus guards WITHOUT ANY ARMY. How can be such a spell on a B tier? And it's not that hard to find, there are two heroes that contain it in spellbook, and it's a common spell in guild.

      He is a tournament player. Contextually, breaks happen first week on Jebus cross so:
      1. Magic arrow is a filler spell. You only cast it when you have excess mana and nothing else is worth casting (which is almost never)
      2. Antimagic is very strong but also situational. It's game breaking when you have a single vulnerable power stack (eg. cyclops) and you know the opponent has stuff like implosion. But there are plenty of games where your army strength is spread over multiple stacks and your opponent might be arma bombing you.
      3. View spells are more for convenience. They generally will not impact your gameplay at all pre-break, and even post, your opponent's position is a non-issue in common templates like Jebus. You're strongly incentivised by the map design to clash in the centre.
      4. Dimension Door is specifically nerfed on most tournament templates - otherwise it's too OP.
      5. Meteor Shower is pretty good but takes a lot of luck and setup to make it work very early. (Compare it to say Luna firewall which becomes active 111). To spam it for a break, you'd need a relatively slow stack of melee monsters and probably expert fire (keeping in mind earth is generally the desired element - so in most cases you'd situationally opt into it depending on your RNG rather than going meteor shower as your main strategy)

    Summary: Without Earth Magic you're screwed.
    I do miss Sacrifice in this list though. Nothing disheartening than crushing a stack of Arch Devils in order to see them emerge again the next turn.

      Yeah even Earth magic's elementals wipe the floor with the other kinds. If you took even just shield and slow and placed them in their own skill with nothing else there people would frequently select it.

    Can fireball and inferno ever be good enough to be used for ok damage and not just one stack clearing? Like for example with the 2 inferno heroes with speciality on those spells? Or is it literally always better to use the 2 meteor shower specialists from dungeon or necro?

      Usually not, their damage is pretty bad. Meteor/chain is almost always better. The only cases I can think of is using them against something like water/ice elementals that are vulnerable to fire, or perhaps if the opponent happens to use protection from earth.

    counter strike is not my favorite but it can be pretty useful also slayer and frenzy are good, magic mirror is fun

    So if you have expert earth magic, and cast protection from earth.. you basically counter heroes that depend on implo to win the the fight?

      Sort of, the protection is 75%, and they can still use things like dispel or dispel with dragonflies for example. But Yeah in general it's good protection vs implo/meteor.

    I dont get it about those magic ,
    An example - town portal , how can i get the " expert " when i can choose whatever town i can go ,instead of just " the nearest town , ?
    Whats needs to be done to get the "expert" level. ?

      Each spell is in 1 of 4 schools of magic - earth, fire, air, and water. You can see it by the color in the corner of the spell. Town portal is an Earth spell, so expert means expert earth magic.

    Slow, Berserk, Haste, Prayer. If you have T3 Prayer, you don't need Haste, as it gives almost the same plus attack and def. Mass Slow opponents first turn, Mass Prayer second turn, Berserk your opponents back line or close clustered units in a 3x3 tile. Resurrections nice against players, but you should own the battlefield by the time you're casting it. Town Portals great for defending stack, Implosion is meh for its cost. Unless one stacks really giving you problems, you don't need to waste mana on it.

      The point in favour of haste over prayer is that it is more accessible being t1 spell instead of t4, cheaper to cast and also it is generally better to go air magic instead of water magic. But if you do run water magic and air magic, you have both spells, and you have lots of mana which you will, then Prayer is gonna be the better cast I'd say.
      Implosion meh? Implosion is amazing. It deals ridiculous amount of dmg, well worth nuking a stack with it. I might even go so far as to say that even if the enemy hero has no standout problematic stacks, that imploding one of the stacks anyway might be better than casting a mass spell. If you have a lot of spell power that is. If you don't have much spellpower, if you play a might hero, then casting mass spells first may just be better.

    What is the difference between bless and bloodlust/curse and weakness

      Bless/curse make the targeted creature inflict the maximum or minimum damage from their damage range. So like giants have a damage range of 40-60, so with bless they will inflict 60 (61 with advanced and expert water), and 40 damage if they are cursed (39 with adv or expert curse).
      Bloodlust and Weakness increase or reduce the actual attack stat of the creature.
      So basically creatures that have a large damage spread like air elementals will be better targets for bless/curse, while creatures with fixed damage like Angels will be better targets for bloodlust/weakness.

    When it comes to casting in battle the most annoying thing is fighting necromancers. Every round the first thing they do is blind my ranged units then I immediately dispell it. So in the Shadow of Death campaign it seems like the only spell I ever cast is dispell. For me that spell be like S tier lol.
    Other than that what do you think of the Blind spell and Bloodlust?

      Cure is usually better than dispel, unless you need to dispel buffs from your opponent.
      Regarding blind - it can be game winning in some cases, using the blind loop mechanic, overall a solid spell. Bloodlust I don't really value that highly.

    In which universe would you use chain lightning instead of a blind spell. Never happened to me. Maybe if the fight is already won.

      In most Jebus games where the final fight happens early week 2 and the opponent has 5+ stacks. Blind rarely comes up because it's only really good in situations where the opponent has a single strong power stack, already used their spell and cannot dispel, and your monsters have a speed advantage AND you don't have access to things like implosion etc.

    Animate dead is useless if you are not playing Necro. Resurrect and animate dead are also countered by that one ring, so I'd put them lower than S.

      It's true, but for necro it's so OP that I feel like it deserved a spot in the S tier. Just my opinion though ofc.

      Animate dead is one of the big reasons why Necro is the strongest town in tournament play. It practically guarantees a 121 break (no losses) with just skeles and it's super consistent no matter what your spawn is like. I think when you evaluate a spell, it's based on how strong / reliable it is when you want to use it. (For that reason, I'd actually put fire wall in S. You only use it with Luna but it's definitely S when she does) Re: the counter, everything in the game has a counter so I don't think that's really relevant for the assessment.

    bless increases damage from EXPECTED average to max. i.e. Giants do 40-60 which is expected 50, and raises it by 20% to 60

    I was about to go on a rant about you ranking fireball above Lightning bolt, but then I realized you left it out... Which sounds about right 😅 I really think it needs a buff... Maybe a DoT effect like burn ir something. Same effect could be added to inferno and armageddon, with increased damage successively. Ofc armageddon is really powerful under right conditions, so maybe it would need a nerf to its damage in that case.

    I'd put fire wall in S. I know it's only used on Luna but I think it's pretty safe to say that it's S-Tier on her and she's mained for the majority of Conflux games. (Same general argument as putting Animate Dead in S and it being used for the majority of Necro games).

    Town Portal is the best spell for sure but slow being so useful at level 1 and so available is definitely a point in arguing for it.
    I think Town Portal not really having a counter while slow does is a huge benefit if trying to rank the two. But they are definitely the top two spells.

      I'll take Town Portal over any other spell by a mile and it isn't even close. I find it extremely difficult to lose once Town Portal is in hand

    If I would be playing, say, Castle, Rampart, Inferno, Dungeon, Stronghold, Fortress, Conflux or Tower, would Animate Dead be still S tier?

      No, it wouldn't. It's only useful for necro (or in the off chance you decide to go necro as another town as people used to in SoD). The reason for the ranking is how OP it is when you are necro, it allows you to do super difficult fights, including utopias with no losses, and the great thing about it is that you don't even need Earth Magic to keep your skeletons after the fight.

      @@MaegnasMw Resurrection requires advanced Earth Magic to be permanent. Animate dead has always been permanent without Earth Magic as far as I know, although I could be wrong.

      @@alex_the_magician9483 the one reason I brought this up is this. Years ago, when Geocities.com was still a "hot" thing (we're talking ancient history here!) I happened upon a Canadian dude by the handle Quebec Dragon - supposedly the Azure Dragon was made in his honor, an early "guru" of the game. His walkthrough got me through the RoE campaign. He mentioned in one of the scenarios that although he played with Thant, the Animate Dead specialist, sadly he (Thant) was never offered Earth Magic to make full use of his specialty spell. Not sure if the Quebec Dragon was talking about making the animations permanent, or making the spell cost less, or both! Perhaps a later patch changed it? I don't know. All I know is that dude really knew the game inside and out and he wouldn't make a mention of Earth Magic in regards to this spell if it wasn't needed, at least then. If anyone really "old" is around, maybe they can enlighten us?

      @@MaegnasMw It costs less and animates more with Earth, but as a whole necromancy was nerfed greatly in HotA, because it was OP in SoD. So knowing that it would be strange if animate was actually buffed in HotA.

      I'd personally rank fire higher than water, but it depends on the situation, sometimes water can be more useful.

      @@alex_the_magician9483 true but it depends on faction, situation and combat initiative. I rank water magic higher bcause of early benefecial spell in PVE while fire magic mainly use for combat PVP. The same reason you rank Slow an S-tier bcoz of PVE

      Earth all the way! Any hero, and any faction wants earth.
      If playing a slow faction like Stronghold and Tower, air might be very handy in order to cast mass haste. Also factions that are generally adept at magic can benefit nicely from air through getting more powerful lightning bolts and chain lightning. Air is also always handy on any hero because of dimension door and fly.
      I find water to be very useful with Fortress. Lots of units need bless, lots of units need speed from prayer. And the ability to teleport cows and hydras at will is just sweet. Mass bless is also good in Conflux, Stronghold, Dungeon and Inferno (Although sadly Barbarians and Overlords can't learn water). Water probably has some nice uses in a few other towns with big dmg gaps. And it is also nice to be able to mass cure/mass dispel, as well as cloning.
      I find fire to be a school that any faction can make use of but it doesnt really have any utility, nor is it essential for anyone. You really only go fire for curse and Berserk. I suppose having a stronger Armageddon if that is your tactic would be nice too. Blind is already good enough as it is, but ofcource it can be nice to avoid retaliaton when attacking the blinded stack.

    isn't stone skin damage reduction wrong?
    in Defense > Attack scenarios the damage is reduced by 2.5% for every defense point above the enemy attack,
    while in Attack > Defense scenario the damage would be reduced by 5% for every defense point gained from the skill, since it would negate a part of the bonus damage (5%) from the bonus attack.
    So in D>A or D=A stone skin would reduce the final damage by 15%, while in A>D stone skin would reduce UP TO 30%, if the enemy attack is at least 6 points higher.

      I said the reduction is between 15 and 30%, if the enemy’s attack is higher than ur def it will be 30%, and if ur def is higher it will be 15%. What did you hear differently?

      No it hasn't been removed, but I don't find Frenzy THAT amazing, and it can work against you too as it lowers your defense.

      I would have taken Alex for an American just judging by the way he speaks.^^ but I have seen many interviews with the band Jinjer and it seems to me that the English skills of Ukrainians are very good in general!

      @@DeKrischa I’ve got mixed feelings about what you said. From my experience, Ukrainians don’t speak English AT ALL (I meet many of them in Poland). It frustrates the hell outta me!
      Maybe, the ones, who actually learn it, can easily get good at it? I’m not sure.
      Or maybe Alex the Magician is SO talented… because I gotta admit that his English is excellent. I’m half American, so I know what I’m talking about.

    dimension door is just as good as town portal, implosion is overrated because you can cast other mass effect spells like slow and shield, even blind, so unless you have a pure mage cleaning up enemy stacks after a slow you just don't have enough opportunity to make maximum use of it; the ultimate cheesing mobs combination is slow + blind + nuke implosions one at a time; remember you can't fight black dragons and sometimes expert berserk (if you ever get fire magic) is the best choice going up against stacks that dwarf your implosion power and troops

      if you have a high lvl hero, and are going up against another hero, nuking their power stack can just win you the game if they can't return the damage some how.

      @@arnigeir1597 implosion is best used on high damage, high defense creatures with low hit points (any of these in combination); it is ideal for taking out things like grand elves or power liches, and also for killing archangels which have absurd defense skill but no resistance to spells

      @@Dan-uf2vh AA's lack of spell resistance is kind of their only "weakness"/notStrength, so blowing them up feels good.

    Death Ripple in itself sucks. But combo it with the Ghost Dragon's Ageing skill would increase its power level by a notch.

    I'm often finding your tier list videos are the same as lexiavs but worse in every way and a waste of time. In this video for example you are missing a ton of spells, lexiav has EVERY spell in this same tier list and goes into detail about when even the worst spells can be useful. Just plain lazy.

It's also funny how you click a video called and thumbnailed "best spells" and complain about not hearing about worst spells lol, next time perhaps read the title and thumbnail so you know what to expect. Thanks for watching :), also feel free to hate on all my other spells videos, as I did make videos about all spells, I just broke them down into separate videos for each tier to make it easier to watch instead of having one big video.

    Bad job.
    Not all spells present.
    Bad examples, like Giants with Bless (only +50%) instead of examples where Bless is 200% efficient. And Giants? Most games end without T7 units.
    Bad knowledge of what spells actually do with view earth/air.
    I don't want to watch further, there are much better youtubers doing the same thing. Why not copy their work and retell the same thing? Why do you think you're better than people who played the game x2, x5 x10 times longer than you?

      Bad critique, like most games ending without T7 units, when almost all pvp games on popular templates have T7 units.

      @@alex_the_magician9483 hes kinda right. Resirrection / animate is one or the same category. IMO, all spells are best spells accdg to their faction. Like water spells work best with fortress, castle or rampart while water spells is very bad with dungeon or inferno

      @@brianmayabella5992 While you're not wrong, water is still trash with any faction. There are only two scenarios when I actually want water magic - 1 is if I'm maining Eovacius and the other is if I need mass forgetfulness for the break. Pretty much any other situation I don't want it. Sure it works better on some units/factions than others, but it is still nowhere near as good as Earth is for ANY faction.

      If you criticize then be polite and most importantly PRECISE.
      The biggest damage spread is 1-4 (Harpies) and 2-8 (Air Elementals). Is that 200% sir?
      Maybe Alex didn’t give the most extreme examples, but his examples were definitely valid. Griffins and Giants have a significant damage range.
