Was looking for kinda such videos like this to how to bring out the maximum of our current given stacks of creatures before we try to attack a nice attractive early game dwelling guarding monster and what is the best way to minimize casualties during the process. You and Xenofex really make the job done.
Happy to help!
I watched a lot of yours tutorials and really like them. Good quality, very informative and helped me a lot! Thanks!
Nice! A few days ago I wrote as comment to The Top 5 beginner mistakes video that I do not know how to kite. And lo and behold, another gap in my knowledge has been filled.
Now to put it into practice, and to get better at it. Might be one of your most useful videos.
Thanks!
Happy to help :)
Thanks for the helpful guide! I wasn't aware that the enemy AI was going after "the greatest number of targets that they can reach in the fewest number of turns". Now I understand why some people bring stacks with 2 tier 1 units and other types of meat in creature banks. It seems that the single tier 1 stacks aren't enough to protect our power stack, so we need something more attractive to bait the AI.
VVhile I'm still on this post, I'd like to say the following: I find it funny how what seems to be an impossible fight for quick combat (17:58) can actually turn into a flawless victory without any casualties (24:12).
Happy to help :)
Very good! Thanks for the video. Will use it to improve my gameplay.
Happy to help!
Thanks for your attention to your viewers, it really helped! I suppose that these rules also apply in creature banks fights.
Happy to help! Regarding creature banks, they are a bit more challenging since the starting position of the units will not be on one side, so the setup to be able to kite is more difficult, but under the right conditions you can do it, and of course you should try to get them to attack one stacks/meat instead of your power stack.
great tutorial! thank you for your hard work!
Happy to help! Thanks for watching :)
Very nice Alex. Thank you.
Happy to help :)
You are a great teacher, thanks!
Happy to help :)
Nice video ! Thanks for the tips
happy to help, thanks for watching :)
Great tutorial. Thanks
You're welcome :)
Nice Guide, I like it!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Thanks for adding "dung kiting". I found that very usefull when fighting monkeys.
youre welcome
Man this is crazy impressive
Thanks :)
You make it look so easy!
Haha, yeah it isn't, even this video took me a few tries doing those fights to record this video, it just takes practice
amazing
Why is it so that almost every person making HoMaM 3 videos has the "Activate Windows" pop up window at the bottom right corner of their screen... Is it some kind of mark of being part of the HoMaM 3 youtube channels group or what? :D :D
(Anyway, nice tutorial, helpful as always).
Damn and here I thought I was the only one, and it could be my "thing".
It's a pity for me to not discover such great guide videos earlier!
And some little personal wish, have you already introduced some "suppress/frighten" ai stacks trick: basically putting one weak stack front & one strong stack back, make ai stacks try to reach weak stack next turn but also avoid getting hit by strong stack, sometimes ai stacks will only move forward for one hex. Really strong trick for ranged army, but I kinda forget if it's heroes 5 exclusive, or also works in heroes 3.
haven't played h5 so not sure about the mechanics you're talking about, most likely not a part of h3 tho
@@alex_the_magician9483 Thanks anyway! Your videos are great and helpful.
Thanks
Welcome
I tried following the guidelines, but the enemy units always seem to beam it straight towards my power stack and ignore the bait. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
Hard to say without seeing the specifics. If you could record a video and put it (as well as the save files) on google drive for example and give me the links, then I could help.
Great stuff. Is there any chance you would do a video on buff/debuffs as the mechanic doesn't seem clear to me, and i'm sure others feel the same way. There are 3 slots for buffs and debuffs yet i see you cast more than 3 times on the same target with genies. are you actually able to get more than 3 buffs? If i have a debuff can i remove it by buffing 3 times with genies? Would love for you to clarify this, i really enjoy your content.
Happy you like the content. Thanks for the idea, will think about how I can put together a video on that. But here's a quick answer for you anyway - the 3 slots aren't limiting the number of buffs, it's just what's visible to you. In reality the number of buffs is unlimited, and you can continue to cast them until you cast all possible buffs (or until the genies run out of buffs). This is why you can get repeat frenzy for example, once you cast all possible buffs, all the genies will have left to cast is frenzy, and that will expire in 1 turn, so they will keep recasting it while other buffs are still active. Regarding the removal of debuffs - this has to do with the particular buff effects, for example cure and anti magic will remove debuffs, haste will remove slow, bless will remove curse.
@@alex_the_magician9483 thanks for the insight! i was under the impression you could have 3 buffs max so thats great to know!
Thanks Alex for these great kiting examples. How do you know which -same speed- enemy stack is going to move first on the field ("this guy moves first", 34'05)? In the swordsman fight, they move in order from top to bottom, in the golem and ogres fight, the stacks seem to move randomly. Thanks.
there's a battle queue feature in hota that shows the order
if you don't have that, the basic rule is the stacks move from the top down, so if you can keep track of them you'll know which ones move when, and if you tie speed with them, then if one of your creatures was last to move in a turn, next turn the enemy creature that ties speed with your creature will move first, and vice versa. hope that makes sense
@@alex_the_magician9483 Thanks, but I don't have HOTA. Just as an example, how do you explain, at 27'51, that the ogres don't move in order from up to down ? (the 5th ogre from top to down moves BEFORE the 4th).
By the way, just forgot to precise that I have bought HOMM 4 "Winds of war".
If i have for example dwarves & elves side by side. I know that the ai always prioritize blacking shooters, but how can I lure enemy troops to hit my dwarves & saving my elves. I’m practicing creature banks
Hi, sorry for the late reply, somehow I missed this comment.
So if you're talking about hives, there is a trick to do it, but it doesn't work in 100% of cases. Basically what you want to do is put your elves in slot 3 and put your meat like centaurs and dwarves in slots 1-6, so that hopefully the flies fly to block your elves but hit the centaurs/dwarves. After that what you want to do is move your elves (or any archers) next to the last to move dragonfly stack and keep the rest of your meat away from the elves. Then the flies will unblock the elves as they will all consider that the elves are blocked and prioritize something else (somehow the last one will do that as well). So this gives you a round of shooting at least. Again, doesn't always work though.
For other creatures banks, you need to do your best to block the elves and use fast stacks to kite and try to use spells like haste/slow to give yourself space to reposition, a bit too complex to demostrate it all considering the different factors like morale, what other creatures you have, etc.
Awesome! but why did you bring the lizardmen? Thanks for the vids
I brought them in case I needed to do a little bit of additional damage to the swordsmen stacks to make sure that the gnolls one shot, and also in case I needed to use them to keep the swordsmen away from the gnolls, Id rather bleed the lizardmen than the gnolls if I can help it.
when I check the status of a creature it shows three buff slots, i saw you do it more than three times. Do the old buffs get overriden by the new buffs?
No, the number of buffs is not limited to 3, it just doesn't show them. In reality you can cast as many buffs as you want until the creature has all possible buffs on it.
@@alex_the_magician9483 Thx for the reply. It's a good thing to know!
i always changed the target after I had buffed it three times, sounds silly now, :)
Which version is that? I bough 2 different versions of that game and i still dont see the supposed win and lose, and the move grid of enemys when in fight! Pls help!!!
This is Horn of the Abyss, an unofficial expansion, and the HD mod, both are free, just google download hota and download heroes 3 hd mod
my only question is, why not shoot everytime with your archers but instead you wait?
If memory serves, when you tell a unit to wait, they get bumped up in the queue. He waits with his lizardmen, because there was nothing in range to do full damage to, and it's better to do full damage (non-broken arrow) half a turn later, than to do half damage now, and have to wait a full turn to attack again. He would have lost, not gained damage per turn by not waiting.
You look like Mark Proksch!
who's that?
great video, i like they way you explaining strategies. with that in mind and on top of that lol, try to use less those 2 sentences, I heard those too many times on ur videos.
8 minutes in, I have no idea what kiting is and you forgot to mention that in the 6 minute long "explanation" part :)
you're an idiot
Firstly im a noob. But, for me 1 stacks are pure cheating. Taking advantage where AI lose tons of time, so you can save your main stack its not seem to be fair. AI have a disadvantage of beign stupid anyway. Peace!
Heh, well as Seth adequately put it, this game thrives on players straining its mechanics. Sure from the AI point of view it's unfair, but when you think of it from the player's perspective, it's pretty beautiful to see difficult fights done with no losses like that.
Two years late, but I'd still like to add that the AI evens that out by straight-up cheating with resources, especially on higher difficulties.
So we are almost 7 mins into the video before you even start to explain what kiting is. That’s a long time to keep my attention without telling me anything
Huh? Did you even watch the video?
I start explaining at 0:23 and at 1:32 I literally say "Kiting is:".
Yes I don't jump into the example right away but that's because kiting, as many other things in this game, is a complex thing and you can't just copy EXACTLY what I do as every fight is going to be different. So to learn to do it properly you need to have an UNDERSTANDING of how to do it, which is what I try to help people gain with my explanations.
At the same time there are time stamps in case you want to skip straight to the examples.
If none of the above helps you then learning these advanced strategies isn't for you
You say “kiting is fooling the AI” you hit the broad concept but no real details. “Kiting is when you take a fast mover and head in one direction, making the AI chase them, than head in the exact opposite direction. Hopefully the AI follows…” would have been noce
