    Greetings! I was on the original Heroes III design team as a map designer back in 1999. I have to say that it still amazes me that this game is still so incredibly popular and heavily played in 2023! Not many games have done this. I loved working on this game and still play it today! Thank you so much for sharing your incredible knowledge and keeping Heroes and Might and Magic III alive!!!

      @Polar_Bear7 Год назад +5

      @@iautonomos what kind of movie? A documentary on the process of making the game or a movie featuring the campaign stories? I would watch both. Maybe. It depends on the perspective the movies are told from, cause I wouldn’t watch a documentary that tries to go beyond an hour long general history lesson on the game development companies, covering changes that occurred during the making of HOMM3, touching lightly on what came before and if there were any past predictions on the future of the franchise, or game itself. A HOMM 3 documentary wouldn’t make much sense, since it’d cover more than just HOMM3. So you’re probably talking creating a movies by using in game lore or the campaign. Ngl, the documentary sounds better to me.

    1. Overestimating fights! It may cause you to wait out on certain objectives, because you're affraid your losses would be too big.

    Thanks for sharing these tips. Well I am a noob, so basically I am an expert on this particular subject. So:
    1. Wasting mana in fights. That awesome feeling of throwing a lightning bolt at nasty Harpy Hags. Alas, magic wells are quite rare in JC, and staying in town to replenish mana is wasteful.
    2. Wasting money on spell books because they might always come in handy. Five books or one hero.
    3. Focussing too much on magic. Might be problematic when you face 3 Crystal Dragons with 10 spell points. :)
    4. Not knowing how to lure the AI's troops away properly (kiting?). The streamers I've seen are usually able to tell which stack moves first and whereto. Since i do not know that, I use one stacks as a shield. And when morale happens, the AI crushes my forces.
    5. Focussing too much on ranged shooters. Unless I have Minotaurs or Efreet Sultans, then I charge. Headlong.

    This game has a very high learning curve and is quite difficult to master. I lately bought it on steam and now want to get into it for real. What I struggle the most with is movement. I am not talking about how it generally works but rather: how should I move? In which direction and what way? How far away from the fortress should I move? How many heroes should I move around with to not suddenly get ambushed by the enemy? Would be awesome if you could make a pro guide for that.

    • @alex_the_magician9483
      @alex_the_magician9483  2 года назад +7

      I believe you've already commented on the first part, but these two videos should help you:
      ruclips.net/video/aq6RReZzIcc/видео.html - I didn't do the best job explaining things in this video, but it should give you a general idea of what's possible.
      ruclips.net/video/FmqFleTXn90/видео.html - In this video I went more in depth regarding the thought process, and I think it should help you understand the approach more.
      In general, this is a complex thing, that first of all requires good scouting, after you scout, you need to prioritize and figure out how to do things as efficiently as possible - here's a video on prioritization that should help as well: ruclips.net/video/mMCw4WZj8ac/видео.html
      Then after you prioritize, you plan ahead, and finally execute. The planning ahead is also crucial because to set up some hero chains may require more than 1 day of setup, and if you just to try to set up for the next turn, it may not work out. So in many cases, you should be trying to plan out several turns in advance, perhaps not precisely, but at least get a general idea of what you'll be doing.
      I know this is a hard thing to do, but at the end of the day, just try to work on it and get a little bit better each game you play, and then try to analyze your games afterwards to see what you could have done better. This really helps improve faster.
      Also - you should get the version from good old games, steam version isn't compatible with HotA - which is the version that mostly everyone plays nowadays.

    @peterjohnjimenez 3 года назад +4

    Movement efficiency is the hardest for me. Scouting, game plan, objectives, chaining, etc... Calculating all of those is crazy. I fucked up a lot practicing in single player. Juggling between chains, side heroes and picking objects is something I'm not used to. I'm aware of suiciding then buying the hero. But not to the point where I utilized them in an efficient way. It's always a treat, that you give certain situations where you can practically use these techniques ✌

    Just a couple of quick questions: how defenses work in fight? I noticed some give eg +2 other +3 and so on. How distance and obstacles or walls impact the shooters? Never saw video about it. Do curse/bless has impact on units with solid damage without min/max? Comparation of castle defenses in front of wall. I noticed that every nation has its own different. How they impact units walking over them and which one could be considered the best? I guess best is for fortress but it will be cool to give them in perspective and tier list. +/- towers. How bloodlust or bless impact shooters with melee penalties when they fight close combats?
    I played this game so much yet still do not know how exactly these (not only) things works and I guess i am not alone. As you said it is a lot of small things in heroes which can change the result. I will be glad if you find time and address these if you have not done so already. Cheers

    Interesting to see. As a beginner I find it much more difficult not to be rushed down by the enemy one or two months in. Even on normal level it seems as though their resources are unlimited and just keep smashing heroes against my cities week after week

    • @MMercM
      @MMercM 8 месяцев назад +1

      if you're one or two MONTHS in you're playing too slow imho - no decision in this game is thoughtless and every build, every army, every action you take has consequences - weigh the value of turtling over getting a couple of extra units to explore, get you more info. if you've got a map with a lot of chokepoints, you can use one hero as a front-line and use a supporting cast as sort of logistics/supply lines, allowing you to continue applying pressure OUT towards objectives. resist the urge to turtle, it's so rare you have enough resources to do so effectively (you only start to have the resources once you already control most of the map - and you can't turtle then either because you're then spread too wide and should be looking to close). objective 1 is almost ALWAYS push forward, find more, grow more.

      You can stack more creatures that way and pick up enough gold on the map to support such a strategy for a couple weeks IMO. Most important thing is to buy them all before the plague week hits

    I've been playing HOMAM3 for almost 25 years. Still the same way. Naive brute force. I'm barely able to finish any map even on standard difficulty. I've never used artifacts in my life, avatar management is zero for me. After a while, the AI comes in and puts BLESS and SHIELD on all their units and CURSE on mine and the game is over.
    And I hate maps with underground. Isn't there a filter in the game that knocks them off my list ?

      Yeah unfortunately the HD version from Steam is bunk, it isn't compatible with HOTA. You need to get Heroes 3 Complete from Good gold games, then get Hota, which is free. Hota has the online lobby built in that has 2000+ players online during peak hours and it's the version that is most widely played even though it's technically an unofficial expansion.

    You really need to define what "early game" means here because you have videos that teach how to "break" on day 2, or something (meaning, like, the endgame is near or already upon us!) - and if you don't have such videos others do! So, what is "early game" for Heroes of Might and Magic 3? (see what I did there? When you do see it, answer accordingly please)

    I have been playing (not at all regularly) the ORIGINAL HoMM3 since it was released, and I have NEVER heard of "poor-manning" until now. 😲
    In the original game, when you retreat a Hero from combat, there is NO GUARANTEE that they will appear in one of your Towns. Often they appear in ENEMY Towns.
    So it's not sensible to even try the tactic. When was this game rule changed, please? Thanks for a great video. I learned heaps. (BTW, I call 'chaining' the Hero RELAY! 😁)
