To answer to some likely questions... (check the description for more info and links) The mods I'm using in this video are the Heroes 3 HD mod (higher resolution, battle queue, QoL improvements) and Horn of the Abyss (new creatures, new features). They are mods for Heroes 3 Complete Edition and they don't work on Heroes 3 HD Edition (from Steam), which I don't recommend buying. Both of these mods are used by the majority of regular players and are high quality. I wanted the video to be fairly snappy so I didn't cover some potentially detailed things like hero chaining. However, I'm aiming to cover more tips in future videos (so feel free to subscribe 😉). Great content! As someone who worked on this game years ago, it's so awesome to see a community of people still enjoying Heroes III. Really proud of the game and the old team which put it together.
I miss 3DO HOMM games. Ubisoft absolutely slaughtered your franchise and it‘s a shame. I still play Homm3 frequently with my friends and this is one of the games that will forever stand the test of time.
I dreamed dreams of HOMM3 for weeks after I played it at a friend's house until I finally got the game from Circuit City (rip) back in maybe 2000. I'm now 32 years old and still play it once a month or so. Thank you.
I also considered myself quite ok for a PvE player (and I know the game for 20 years as well) but most of those tipps were new to me (apart from the animate dead one - there is one heroe who has it as a special ability and that combined with vampire lords makes for an OP army).
@@lukasbosina301 Same for me. I played this game when I was teen and therefore never bothered with the mechanics. But as an adult I derive more pleasure from learning how to play games efficiently. "Why would anyone need a beginners tips tutorial for a game that came out more than 20 years ago?" Because it's still the best fucking game its genre has ever seen. That's why.

What I learned from this video that I didn't know after playing this game for almost my entire life: - The pros of having 1 unit stacks - Faster units in your army increases hero speed on land - Creature bank (cluster) formation 1, 2 = top, 3,4,5 = mid, 6, 7 =bottom - Press space to use portals???? Whaaaaat - that's legit a game changer! - Towers prioritizes bottom ranged rather than top ones Noting this to remember it btw, thanks dude ^^
#1 it depends if you have an overwhelming army or underwhelming. I learn this from AI tactics. The goal here is to lose counter and the highest number have a free attack without being counter thats why griffin or counter attack spell is good. Defending siege towers ALWAYS inflict on highest possible killable stack. I think the formula here is if creature is equal or below 30hp target it else other creature.
The space bar is more like "take action". If your hero's on a windmill, he collects resources. If he's on a dwarven treasury, he attacks. If he's on a monolith, he teleports. I used to position my scout heroes one step away from certain buildings at the end of day 7 so I could collect from them at the start of day 1. Now I leave them on the building and save 1 movement.
@@wizardsuth Spacebar is very useful. If for example I end up at a building and forget I'm out of resources to pay, I can go sell some at the marketplace and then go back to the hero press spacebar and buy without having to waste movement points. Before I knew about the spacebar I would have to exit the building and re-enter, wasting movement points.
I've been playing this game for 20 years and I didn't knew that upgraded and basic creatures were facing opposite directions. Still having fun with this game.

Holy crap. I've been playing HoMM III almost all my life and mostly clicked the video out of curiosity. I was not expecting the last tip and I really appreciate you saying that. It feels like so many people are so focused on optimization these day, in all games, and it's rare to hear someone speak out about just having fun. So thanks for that. It kinda made my day.
A tip I have when playing with Vampire Lords (my favorite unit) : the upper and lower left corners of the battle arena are bordered by 3 hexes but the upper and lower right corners of the battle arena are bordered by only 2 hexes. That means that if you're battling living non-ranged single hex units slower than your Vampire Lords, you can wait on the first turn, then fly to the center and on turn two fly to one of the right most corners and battle at most 2 at a time. If you have blind you can reduce that to 1. This means you can take out a much more powerful army. Because you keep regenerating units as you suck out the life of the other army, the AI will attack you even though you can defeat the army easily even if it takes a long time.
One tip I would add is that the units don't have movement caps on the campaign map, only heroes do. To bring in reinforcements from towns to the main armies one can set up a chain of heroes, transferring troops from one hero to another as their movement ends.
I've just downloaded the Complete Edition from GOG after a 15-year hiatus. I used to play this game religiously when I was younger. Can't believe I'm learning new tactics for this game in 2021!
I remember when Heroes 3 just came out, and it was huge upgrade compared to Heroes 2. 22years of experience here, tho some of your tricks I never knew until now. Thanks for the video :) MOAR
I remember going to a pc store with my dad and buying this game in 1999 or 2000 when I was 6-7 years old. It was the first game I ever had, and I've been playing it ever since. Yet I didn't know a lot of the stuff in this video, thanks a lot. If these are beginner tips I want to know what pro tips are lol.
Those would take a thick manual like author sais by the end of the video. For me- I was at the uni, and one of my friends was telling the other, how this new game Heroes3 (unheard for me) is great, and so much improved from something named Heroes2. We went to his house to check it out, and as I saw the mechanics, and the stats (of Behemoths), I said 'I'm going to be learning this all asap'. And so I did:)
One pro-tip is that high power spell, expert fire magic and Armageddon can destroy more or less anything, but Black dragon, Efreet, Fire elemental and Magic elemental. Just get some black dragons and Armageddon and "grass will never grow again where ever you go".
Great tips! I'm a casual player but I've gotten noticeably better just by watching your playthroughs, and this is of course even better in that sense. Looking forward to more tips (and playthrough) videos!
yapp I only discovered it a few months ago and my life has been changed ever since. also the expansions I'm using tells me how big is the unit with actual numbers and not just saying "lot" or "swarm" but instead "50-99" which is way more helpful and I don't need a template to get an idea how big that unit is actually. I have to walk to the dwellings to find it out but then it just shows for the rest of the game if I right click.
I don't remember how I found out about it, but I knew it from back in the day. I know someone who also didn't know about it a couple of years ago and was super surprised. Still surprising to hear there are other people that didn't know about it. I guess it might be because I didn't play a lot of Restoration of Erathia back in the day, I almost immediately jumped to Shadow of Death. hello friend, try using stronghold, hero crag hack (well, his name has "hack", so you know.. ). Quickly build behemoth cave at week 1. If you are playing normal difficulty, it is absolutely easy ( even with 200% difficulty, you can still do that if you lucky enough). try to recruit as many hero as you can, explore the map with behemoth, you should easily win the map, good luck friend.
hi,im also 22 and been playing this game till now but im enable to beat every map at 200% diff. here are just my play style in case u wanna try out Normally i just focus on building the capital for the income and get the range unit before the 1st week then go for the rests always recruit 2-3 hero at the start to reveal the map and get more resources spells are fucking OP in this game therefore learning expert wisdom is a must (earth, wind spell is top priority) last but not least , morale and luck play vital part in battle enjoy sitting several hours in your room playing !

Some games are multi-player, Heroes is more like multi-layer game, sooooo many thing to know. About 20yrs of experience and this video still showed quite a few things i did not know. Great game, great video! Thanks.
Thank you. I'm jumping back in after many years off. I forgot most of this stuff. Multiple stacks of the same unit is an easy way to gain a big advantage. If the unit has a good special you can play with that a lot. I usually find myself leaving one of the units at the stronghold to stack (most always the slowest unit so I keep my hero movement up as well, plus they're usually tanky) while I split one of the units in two. Like with the Swamp faction. The upgraded serpents weaken the enemy (and they dispel). You only need one single unit and they attack first almost all the time. You'll weaken the unit and draw use its counter and then have the whole rest of your army to follow up. You only sacrifice the one unit. More than worth it.
I'm loving all your H3 content, H2 was one of my first games and played a ton of H3 back in the day. I didn't know most of the tricks in this video, and while I don't game all that much these days, this is still one I like to come back to from time to time. Thanks!
People here talking about being 6 or 10 years old when they first played this game, but for me this is the first video game I've seen, literally. I used to watch my dad play it since I was 3, it's what defined computer gaming for me and it's the game that made me memorize everything and turn on the computer by myself and play it, when I still couldn't even read.
These are really good tips!! I've been playing Heroes III for years, but always very casually with friends, which is why I've never been able to master the campaigns. I'm gonna try these things right now, especially the first one about the single stack units!
Remembered this game today. I’m so happy to see dedicated videos of 2020’s, and most important that you recommend at the end to simply enjoy the game as we like. Great video.
Wow! I've been playing this game since I was a kid and I didn't know most of these mecanics . Thanks for the video! Definitely looking forward to seeing the next one.
Ubisoft owns the franchise. We should only hope they do not remake the current Heroes 3, or ban the multiplayer/other development that the unnoficial patches provide.
Still watching in 2024. I loved this game as a kid, now teaching my gen z American friends who have never heard of the game to play it, lmao. It's such a timeless classic! But I was never any good at it when I was younger, so I appreciate being able to learn through videos like this.
I must say how refreshing it is to see some new actual Heroes III content about the game itself, in contrast to "do you remember this old gem". I like the other stuff as well, but this really resparked my flame for it!
Thank you very much for these tips! HMM3 in HD is a true masterpiece, with unique cities, an awesome fantasy ambience and gorgeous Paul Anthony Romero's music!
I love this game so much. Would play it all the time when now as little. Always died fast. Why I never looked up a tip video of this game is beyond me. Happy to have found your video. Will be a great help. Going to play this now and try our your tips. Also, the soundtrack is GOAT!
this was nice because it explains quite a few things you talk about in your gameplay series when making tactical decisions and the like. I've been playing HoMM for most of my life and only recently learned things like how bad morale procs 1/4 times at the lowest grade, which is not at all what the original manual stated, or tactics here with one stacks and AI prioritization. It hasn't made me so much of a better player that I still struggle with some of the expansion campaigns but at least I'm not as frustrated as I was in years past :)
Another thing about the shooting range and broken arrow - if I remember correctly, if the unit that is 2 hexes long stands right between the 10 hex border of your ranged unit's range, it actually matters whether you aim at the front of the rear hex of that large unit. It's been a long time since I played HOMM so correct me if I'm wrong.
Great tips, I've been playing pretty much since the game was new and most of these I didn't figure out until recent years. The one about what the AI towers target I was not aware of - good to know! This is one thing I love about the game: there is always more to learn and scope for improvement.
I take long breaks from this game. Sometimes years even. But then all of a sudden the urge to play always comes back. I didn´t know several of these tricks. So thanks alot. 🙂
Thank you for the fast guide/Tips. I just purchased this game via g2a and it's my childhood game on my Windows XP Pro. I used to play it together with Age of Empires 2 and Red Alert 2 & Yuri's Revenge. Good old games. :)
I love this game so much. Tried 4,5, and 6 but never went back to those games. Homm3 however, I usually get an inching to play this game everywhere 12-18 months and when I do, I beat all the scenarios to completion. Love the Rampart questline and I use nothing but the overpowered sharpshooters with no range penalty.
I play this game for the first time back in Saudi Arabia when I was on tour in the Air Force in an admin tent back in 1999 and here more than 20 years later it is still one of my favorite games in fact I played it just last night while watching TV. One of the most low stress chill out games I’ve ever played.
Just discovered the existence of HoTA, and as a result have bought the game for the 6th time. Each time I delve into it I discover a new depth to the game, rather pleased that the strategy I used originally as a child is still viable (though calling it a strategy may be a bit of a stretch, it really was just picking Gunnar as my starting hero).
Fantastic - the clarification about creature stacks when facing a creature bank is especially helpful as is the (not insignificant) difference between animate dead and resurrection (not to mention how the terrain always takes place on the defender's territory )
I've being playing this game for so long and every time I hear the intro music from New World Computing and see the flaming planet as a giant fireball with a sword pierced through it, I have goosebumps and I feel like I felt when I've started the game for a very first time! And yet today I've learned something else. Thank you for the video!
#3 Diagonal Pickup : Wow. I was always under the impression that diagonal pickup would be *more* efficient. Visually, it's one less arrow on the pathfinding so it feels like it ought to be. Me finding out new stuff about this legendary game in 2023. Great video dude (^_^)b

Finally something to refresh my memory. I have been away for 20 years from Heroes 3 and just installed the complete edition yesterday. I was overwhelmed by the AI on hard difficulty which I usually beat (in the campaign mode).
I bought H3 from GOG to relive the golden years and I gotta say, there was some pretty good tricks I did not know about! For example the upgraded units on the world map! I never made that connection :D
excellent! mere 22 or so years after its release .) but yeah homam 3 is by far the best game in the series. i still remember a rando's custom map "pessant wars" where only units recruitable for player were pessants. and crazy ton of them too, i tell you 10k pessants scare behemoth away! the original release did come with paperback manual, you have its coppy in PDF form, you can be master too .P

@@sontungduong793 wow, I didn't expect such advise. Thanks a lot, I'll definitely try it!
hi,im also 22 and been playing this game till now but im enable to beat every map at 200% diff. here are just my play style in case u wanna try out
Normally i just focus on building the capital for the income and get the range unit before the 1st week then go for the rests
always recruit 2-3 hero at the start to reveal the map and get more resources
spells are fucking OP in this game therefore learning expert wisdom is a must (earth, wind spell is top priority)
last but not least , morale and luck play vital part in battle
enjoy sitting several hours in your room playing !
@@dustinjowen4427 learning from 200% difficulty gives u more experience than normal difficulty. You can learn whats faction imprtant building guide for rush, units strength n weaknesses and play style. Learning from ur own rather than copying others guide is a stable progress
this is probably the first ever tips video for H3 where I actually learned something (I did not know tower AI prefers to shoot bottom up)
Very useful tips. The 'how to recognize upgraded monsters' bit blew my mind.
Literally bought Heroes 3 two days ago. Thanks for this.
I love the soundtracks of HOMM III and IV, my favorites
Thanks!
Best game ever! After all those years the only game that I always come back to.
I have played HOMM since the first one, sometimes in 1995. and I can tell you this is an excellent video with some really nice tips. Bravo!
I keep my 20 years of experience as a trick for the game xD
Me and my brother still playing it. We Love it.
Thx for your videos.
I resurrected (see what I did there?) this game following a break of years and years. What a game, top banana. My son is addicted too. Fabulous.
Liked because you said: Have fun. Somthing that many has forgoten in the world of gaming. Good tips
20 years of playing this game and still there are things to learn... this is way this is one of the best
A lot of these tips I didn’t know, but as you said in the video, the most important thing is to enjoy the game and have fun!
Thanks for sharing!
Been playing this for close to 20 years and there was still stuff in this I didn't even notice were a thing, dope! Thanks for the vid :)
Nice disclaimer at the end of the video. Its always very sympathetic when good experienced players value different ways to play the game.
Wow! I've been playing this game since I was a kid and I didn't know most of these mecanics . Thanks for the video! Definitely looking forward to seeing the next one.
Me too.
Ubisoft owns the franchise. We should only hope they do not remake the current Heroes 3, or ban the multiplayer/other development that the unnoficial patches provide.
@@NeblogaiLT yes. Let's hope they simply let the HOMM 3 be as it is.
Hey, when you have 15+ years of experience and then you find out that you still have a lot to learn. Thanks for this!
I played for over a decade and never figured you could use 1-stacks until I saw it on youtube. This had been the biggest gamechanger for me.
The fact so many people are still playing this game and making videos on it is probably the single biggest reason I still have faith in humanity
Actually super useful - played this for hundreds of hours as a kid and didn't know some of these
Still watching in 2024.
Oh god, this game brings me back. The gameplay, the story, and the ost. Subscribed
Love me a tips video for a game thats over 20 years old lol this game is such a classic, the 1st 3 Heroes games were my PC life as a child
this was nice because it explains quite a few things you talk about in your gameplay series when making tactical decisions and the like.
Ty for the tip about not picking up resources horizontally, i knew there was a reason my movement drained a little too fast
Love it! I'm a massive fan of Heroes II though. Have you done a t&t for that game?
I am a casual player, playing since like 2000 when I got my 1st PC. Yet I still find this very helpful, thanks bro !
Great tips, I've been playing pretty much since the game was new and most of these I didn't figure out until recent years. The one about what the AI towers target I was not aware of - good to know! This is one thing I love about the game: there is always more to learn and scope for improvement.
Loved this, thank you. This was easily my favourite game back in the day, and I just got this from Steam after YEARS of not playing.
Quite a few things I didn't know about, despite having played Homm3 for 3 years now so great job on the video! :D
Ngl, that last tip was prob the most important one in this list. Thanks because I was starting to feel overwhelmed.
My dad recently introduced me to this game series, absolutely love it!
Considered myself an expert buy learnt so much here. X. Thank you.
Can wait to get back on this game.
I love how I didn't know some of this stuff after all these years playing ...!
Have played this game for years and some things I had no idea about. Thank you!
I've been playing this game for two decades, and I didn't know half the tips in this video. Thanks!
there more tips
I didn't know about the towers shooting the bottom ranged attacker stacks. Thank you.
I've been playing this game since 1999 and I learned a bunch, thanks!
I never knew about this game until this tutorial. I don't know how this got into my recommendation but i watched and liked this video anyway.
I've been playing this game for over 20 years and I've learned a lot from this video! Good stuff :)
I've being playing this game for so long and every time I hear the intro music from New World Computing and see the flaming planet as a giant fireball with a sword pierced through it, I have goosebumps and I feel like I felt when I've started the game for a very first time! And yet today I've learned something else. Thank you for the video!
Brilliant explanation coupled with great demonstration. Very enjoyable video!
That one about tovers was quite nice, I will be using it form here on.
Nice one on the upgraded units facing the other way... That was something i did not notice :)
This video has the best tips and explanation! I was thinking HOMM3 and Armageddon's Blade must have a quite small community. Then I explored HoTA and then these videos.. Very happy to see gamers like me who still enjoy a lot playing these great a 25yo series🤩
I love this style of edited videos. Great job man! Thanks!
Loved the entire video especially your closing comments ! Well done !
Fantastic video, thanks for putting this together! Glad to see folks are still playing this great game.
played this game 20 years ago..still learnt something new today!
Thank you for the great nostalgic content!
Really enjoy watching your videos and still learnt a lot in 2024!
Very good job, i play this game since i was a teenager and a never knew the most of this things about. Just keep doing this you've been doing nice.
Definitely my favorite game. I play the series from the first one and I have played HoMM 3 competitively online with quite a success too but still I did not know some of the advices given here. Nice video!
excellent tips! Definitely helps me shake off the rust from not playing this game in several years. I was surprised to see such a thriving community still going on over on twitch.
I never made that connection :D
excellent! mere 22 or so years after its release .)
but yeah homam 3 is by far the best game in the series.
i still remember a rando's custom map "pessant wars" where only units recruitable for player were pessants. and crazy ton of them too, i tell you 10k pessants scare behemoth away!
the original release did come with paperback manual, you have its coppy in PDF form, you can be master too .P
When he said about pegasus (so technically a horse) penalty on swamps I immediately thought about Artax from Neverending Story.
Yes, Yes! This is the perfect video to procrastinate to. Nostalgic.
