you rate demon that high because of demon farming strategy, but rated skeleton at D tier and ignored necromancy. That's a little bit inconsistent, don't you think?
He rated skeletons D tier, because you need so much game knowlege on how to seprate/make stacks, that it makes a pretty boring playstlye, even more boring, and hard to do, and the payoff is not that high

Also, he doesnt take in consideration the fact that fire ellies can be summoned and you can make huge comebacks with them (even if you dont have expert armageddon). Under that logic, one can rank fire ellies at least in b tier
Yeah he kinda forget that he graded this tier as a stand alone units quality. Demon farming is a longshot than skel farming

Crusaders are my favorite unit in HoMM3. No doubt about it. They may be slow but the sounds they make, and the double attack puts them there.
The sound is pure fire.

Ogre mages are actually very good units. 60 hp points is higher than some tier 5 units. 6-12 damage and 13 attack makes then great damage dealers, plus they are super tanky, so they don't all die from the retaliation strike, like pegasus. And they also cast bloodlust.

Ogre Mages are actually a bad unit. No. I don't care that they are 60 HP. Who cares? No one's gonna go through that build path when you have Behemoths
@@DOGEreal not necessarily. Imagine you have a couple dwellings of ogres near the castle and you have none of behemoth dwellings around. Now if you get a couple pandora boxes with ogres, why don't you proceed this way?
@@koleso1v Because in 95% of the time there will be no dwellings and no boxes. Really few temp!ates have boxes and dwellings like that.
Pegasus are really squishy, they may be fast, but really they die to anything almost.
They r great against ai but not so against human cuz they will get killed off quick
Pegasus are even better against players, because their ability persists even after they die. They are very annoying to deal with.
You do get 10 of them per week to compensate. Compared to every other lvl 4 unit that only spawn 8 a week.
I agree. After the first real battle they are probably gone so not that useful.

1. I would definetely argue for Ayssids and Crusaders being in S tier simply because of their ludicrous dmg. They are somewhat below vampire lords, but in some situations preferable. Ayssids may be slightly better than Crusaders, but Crusaders lasts longer so I dunno.
2. Sharpshooters are really a hit or miss unit for your army. If you get one dwelling, and especially early you'd be pretty happy. If you get 2 dwellings they start to go nuts in terms of dmg IF you can protect them. So it depends on several factors. They could be S tier if left alone and with 2+ dwellings, or B tier if 1 dwelling and constantly focused since they die fast.
3. Ogre magis shouldn't be underestimated. Usually in tight fights they are the last man standing on Stronghold side, and difficult AF to deal with. They are slow, but that can be dealt with through haste, teleport, etc utility spells. They hit hard, and tank hard. Unfortunately they suffer from being in such a bad faction in my opinion. Stronghold is also oriented towards attacking, not having a tanky meatshield. But I would say B overall.
4. Medusa queen could be considered B tier, since they deal decent dmg, and together with evil eyes become a early-midgame threat. Low shots means you need ammo cart though.
5. Ogres should be pushed to C mainly for the same reasons as Ogre magi, but they are even slower...
6. I mean come on.. vampires are not particulary good, but they don't deserve D. Atleast as good as swordsmen and basilisks because they can fly and has no enemy ret.
7. Medusa should probably be a C with ammo kart, but maybe just D without.
8 shots is enough for most fights imo. I'm of the opinion that if you're going for medusas (maybe you just want to have a double shooter core in your dungeon army), you want to upgrade them pretty much asap. 4 shots obviously is quite bad, so D tier is fine for medusa in my opinion.
As someone who really likes Stronghold, Ogres suffer from the same issue as Griffons of having a garbage build path. Orcs are trash, they are not on the way to behemoths (and week one behemoths are pretty much THE reason to play stronghold in the first place), and ogre fort + cyclopes cave takes up a ludicrous amount of wood and ore that you're probably not going to have any time soon. IMHO the only reason to go down the cyclopes path at all as Stronghold is because you've failed to take another city as Stronghold and you're forced into lategame, and that usually means you're just losing.
@@webbowser8834 Yeah 8 shots works for most fights, but rushing their uppgrade just for another 4 shots and a little speed? I think it's better to focus on getting all dwellings & uppgrade harpies first. And get an ammo kart asap meanwhile. Medusas are by no means bad, and are welcome to the army, but like I said, uppgrading them early is fishy. 4 shots will do for early fights.
Ogres do indeed suffer from the bad build path in stronghold aswell as bad army composition. And the path was even worse in pre-HotA since cyclops cave also needed alot of crystals.. Certainly ogre magis are a powerhouse in the right hands, but it isn't supported well enough in Stronghold. The first 2 tiers are gone super quickly. Orcs can almost be ignored. So the only threats early in a big fight are the thunderbirds and ancient behemoths.
Also how is Pegasus better than Crusaders? I think there should be an A+ Tier, and Ayssids and Crusaders should be placed there.
@@DOGEreal Totally agree, pegasus has alot of speed, can fly and good growth but not very strong and made of paper.

I don't understand why vampire are so low - vamipre even without upgrade is better than fire elemental (unless you face some caster as they have no retaliation skill)

Vampire lords - nothing can stop vampire lords
I've seen tests with 1-1-1-1 heroes. just ai autofighting, where actually ayssids and crusaders kill them due to second strike. However the amount of units in stack was determined by unit price.
I enjoyed the video, but I feel that placing vampires into D tier just does them no justice. The fact that they can fly already opens many doors and they are not completely terrible if you choose the right playstyle. When you exploit the wait function to your benefit, they can often end up kiting units that are travelling towards you for free, dealing enough damage to pay off their price. Howgh! ;)
Yeah I was going to say, they surely aren't as good as Vamp Lords but honestly aren't that bad. No retaliation lets you get away with things a lot easier.
Sharpshooters should be S tier

Greetings from Bulgaria, Lexiav. Damn that game brought some good old memories. I remember whenever me and my friends played this gem.. a day passed as if it was 10 minutes. No strategies, no calculations, just stack an army and go "balls deep" :D sry for the pun.

I remember back in the day when we played SOD with friends - there was this idea to have 1 ogre magi in your army so that you can bloodlust your behemoths.. and then what happened was they just slow you down and bloodlust is not worth it.. All their high hp and attack/defense stats remain unused.. I still think you could have put medusa queens a tad higher, but understand your reasoning.

crusaders are indeed very dank i always love going Sylvia and leveling them up, once you get like 30 of htem theyre unstoppable with haste
Medusa's stone is kinda nifty, if one enemy manages to reach you, stoning makes it easier to relocate and go somewhere safe and avoid being bled

The demon is a bad unit. The demon farming strategy doesn't make the demon a good unit. It makes the pitlord a good unit.

In this case you cannot view the unit itself for the ranking. Yeah obviously the demon is below average.
In the demonfarming strategy the pit lord summons demons yeah, so that would make pit lords good and not demons?
No, it is a package deal, you don't get one without the other. On their own demons are lacking, and pit lords are decent/good. If pit lords use their ability then they are strong, and it makes demons strong aswell. You can't have one without the other, therefore demons are very good if you demonfarm which you should.
@@bosspoke Yeah, he overrated the Demon tbh. It is D-tier IMHO unless you put a big emphasis on the Demon Farming. Just imagine a game that only goes up to tier 4 units. Which would be your #1 pick? I would choose Crusader>Ogre Magi>Archmage>Greater Basilisk>Pegasi>rest of the trash. I know, I know, Vampire Lords are better etc. I just really don't like playing Necropolis.
Nah it means buying demons is good because they don't take up space in your army because you'd already be farming demons
I would rank Ogre magi and medusa Queens higher and switched them with demons and pegasi . Ogre magi have good attack and high HP and can cast bloodlust. Medusa Queens are ranged with no melee damage penalty and have stone gaze specialty and have somewhat better stats then pegasi and demons, other then speed vs pegasi

Medusas could be a tier higher, imo. They're not as terrible, come on now.
Their weekly stack is weaker, than (lower tier) beholder weekly growth ;) But least they are cheap, so they are better if you have to choose, which dungeon shooter to buy.
They have 4 shots.. Also they are kinda meh all around and their growth is bad, i think it's fair

Ogre mage beats every single unit in 1v1 in the B tier..... so at least he belongs to be there in my opinion.
Yeah I would rate them middle B tier. Teleport can make them deadly and they're naturally great for defending castles.
@@13luechocobo They have a similar issue that Griffons have. Their build path is hot garbage. If you go for ogres, you're delaying your rocs and behemoths, and the only thing you get on the way are trash orcs.
@@webbowser8834 Oh yeah, agreed. I'm not saying you should go for them first. But by mid-game when you have all your dwellings anyway these guys are one of the best in the game for base defense. They lack any magic resist like dwarves and golems, but they make up for that with an obscenely high cost:stat ratio, and if your defending hero happens to know teleport the enemy can kiss their range units goodbye. Anyway, because of their speed I know they can't be ranked too high, but I still would have put them above demons at least. They've saved my butt way too many times for me to call them a C- unit.
How come you included steel golems but not diamond and gold golems? Wondering if those are considered tier 5?
Good work as always, but Ogre mage and Greast Basilisk must be higher. Basilisk has nice stats, and pietrifying attack is very usefull, i put them above the birds and pegasi. Ogre Mage is stronger and more usefull than all of the B tier.

Mostly not, but there are some exceptions. Changes were made for better though.
Great video! Necropolis is my favourite town, exactly because it has a mixture of extremely powerful and plain bad units. It is a pain in the a@@ to successfully balance their pros and cons, but it is all the more satisfying when you do.
are Sharpshooters no longer available as an upgrade from Grand Elves and Marksman?
it's a pretty obscure way that requires a scenario hero but I don't remember from what expansion and if it's possible to get lucky and get this guy in a normal game.

Yeah, there are a handful of scenario only heroes that if they were allowed in normal multiplayer would instantly catapult that entire faction into S+ tier...

Sharpshooters are kinda polarizing because they are very strong DPS units that have golden bow effect for free, but they're instantly gone if there is a spell, strong shooter or a random morale proc. They have as much health as typical tier 2 unit and it shows. Without AA's or a rez spell to support them they won't last long.
Steel golems are poggy tho. Speed 6 really gives them enough to be very effective anti-spell units. Even gold or diamond golems have speed 5. This unit was made almost exclusively to increase giants cb difficulty lol, and it turned out to be a pretty good unit.
Would be nice if you had the stats for each on screen as well

I feel like tier 4 is pretty lack luster all the way around. Vampire lords are the only saving grace in all of them. Silver pegasus die too easily and are hard to keep around which is disappointing because they good be really good.
The only contender in tier 4 is the crusader. Crusader should be ranked 2nd

I have a slight hunch that the toughest unit in cove is Nix. The rest of them... oh God.
For sharpshooter there is actually a hero that can upgrade archers into them, and then they become almost unbeatable! (You did a video about him, but I guess he has a different specialty there)
Yes the SoD campaign hero Gelu can upgrade elves and archers (and their upgraded versions) into Sharpshooters making him the best hero in the game alongside Dracon (a wizard that can turn mages/archmages and monks/zealots into enchanters)
Both Medusas need to be 1 tier higher just for the fact that fighting neutral stacks of ranged units on the map will almost always make you lose some units! >_>
That may be true (just lost my army of 39 vampire lords to a horde of medusa queens).
Leaving aside sharpshooters for me it is vampire lords, Ogres/Ogremages and Crusaders. I can't believe this guy put a level 4 creature with high damage and 60 health in c/d tier.
for me Vamp Lords! which lvl 4 can clear Dragon Utopia zero casualties??
the winner is a surprise :D love them espc. if u get an armorer hero with some lvl. you can do max topes with 35 of them

if it was basic homam 3 you can put vamp lord at S tier of every tier above 4 as well.
Where would you put Automatons on this list?
I'm thinking Sentinel Automatons would be A-tier. Not the best damage, but No Retaliation and high speed make them excellent at clearing camps. The explosion mechanic isn't that useful, but being able to repair them with Engineers is also a big plus (along with immunity to mind spells and such).

They are not better than Swordsmen or Basilisks, unless You invest lots of mental energy to farm them...

@@Lexiav Additionally, your ranking of Demons should have an alternate rank for Demons without counting in Demon Farming. I would appriciate a comment on a unit's battle abilities in themselves as this is quite important PvE. IMO Demons are the worst tier 4 unit except for dusas and vamps. And Ogre Magi are A-tier imo.

Silver Pegasus are not to attack units. People bring them in for their special ability. Making enemy hero spend two extra mana pts for every spell they use.
Do not rush them to enemy's side, and use 1-stacks, or dendroids/dwarves/centaurs to take the retaliation. Other than that- pegasi are about as tanky as most other T4 units (due to higher pegasi growth), so should not die too fast.
Fire elementals better than vampires? sure, no problem.

@@Lexiav If you have a toaster oven, try putting in some bread, cheese and ham and toasting the bread. It takes zero effort/cooking skill and tastes really good. You can also take some butter and pan fry the grilled cheese for a more buttery taste.

What do you mean by kite in this video?
When your range units could outrun an enemy and still deal damage or when you use fast moving melee units as a bait and shot with range units for free.
Only for fight AI. Your fast units can lure the enemy melee units to walk around in the battle map, while your ranged units stay behind to attack for free.
I would put Ogre Magi alot higher, solid B tier purely cause they are amazing at defending castles thanks to their bulk and free bloodlust.
Horned Demons would be a bit lower too, their lack of ability along with very average stats just doesn't sit well for me

Nope, that was one of the big buffs to Tower in HotA, you can just skip Magi and build Genies, Nagas and Giants.
Ogre magi has the best stats out of any tier 4 creature (other than speed). Having them in C tier is ridiculous. It is a high A tier creature, and not S only because of speed.

Why don't you spend a few minutes to fix your images before adding them to tier list?
All you need to do is put them in a folder on your computer and then use a tool like irfan view that has batch resizing of images and resize them to a square size. Then they will all fit and be actually scaled for the most part.
hey, the simple vampires are not so bad, no retaliation and flying ability puts them to at least C.
and horned demons should be lower, rather slow anf kinda meh surely worse than any other at A.

Agree on A except upgraded elemental and upgraded demon. They are B.
Agree on B but non upgraded demon should go to D. And Upgraded medusa is also B. She can beat most of others on that tier. She's same as upgraded basilisk just a shooter.
C - upgraded ogre, non upgraded medusa, steel golem, non upgraded vampire - non retaliated unit will beat retaliated ones + raise dead is low tier spell.
What's left is D.
And don't give Pit lords credits to demon. It's pit lord who makes hordes of demons, so its his value not demons itself :D Demon itself is still slow crap unit with good hp.
Why Arch Magi are that high? you never ever build them, so their "use case" is exacly like the one of a mighty gorgons - eather get them from a box or nothing at all.
Well, not quite. I see a single box of a certain unit as not enough to commit to a powerstack on its own, but still rather usable variant. In this case you would be very happy to get the arch magi as you would be making full use of their utility, meanwhile as for the gorgons this wouldn't exactly be the case, as to make use of them you would probally still have to support the powerstack with extra units from dwellings to make them into the very fearsome powerstack.
True, u only build their building. Nothing more. In HOTA, its cheaper now compare to SOD or Arma blade expansion. U can upgrade if u have spare resources
A lot of ‘stoning’ going on 😂. It’s ‘petrify’. Stoning is when you throw stones at a victim as a form of torture or execution, not quite as effective vs. a lot of these creatures 😄

Soooo:
Wampires = Flying, Undead, no retaliation, 6 speed = D tier
Swordsman = 1 more dmg, 5 health, 0 abilites, lower speed = C Tier ??
Fire elemental = worst dmg, worst abilities, same speed = C Tier ??

He's got some other factors than stats alone. Like population growth, cost, what role it plays on the battlefield with the faction, build paths and so on. I was also surprised that vamps got the D tier, they ain't that bad.
Could someone enlighten me or point me to a good video - what is the point of rating units when I always buy every availaible unit each week since midgame? What else is there to buy with gold? To be specific, why would I ever decide to not buy a unit?
Multiplayer pro's do not build every unit- they rush through the game with whatever they can get fast, and what works. These videos are about such ratings.
If you in peasant difficulty, u dont bother of this strategy. Play in impossible difficulty or pro players then comment here again.

Ogre Magi should be able to use bloodlust without loosing a turn, but only 3 times
When expert fire magic, bloodlust should be all or mass effects
Note of improvement try to show the stats and try to show their abilities
medusa queens are very strong. energy elements and silver pegasi are rubbish, ogre mages have 60 lives and can cast bloodlust spells so they aren't that weak
No one builds Ogre mages, Medusas don't do anything, worthless garbage unit.

Enchanters are tier 5, same as sharpshooters are not tier 2/3 (archers/elves), but tier 4 already.
@@NeblogaiLT Enchanters are actually tier 6. Same principle as you mention with archers and elves (and Gelu's upgrades); magi and monks are tier 4 and 5, enchanters are 6 (upgradable with Dracon). It's also evident if you manage to get a dwelling of them. Tier 4 units like sharpshooters yield 4 creatures per week. Tier 6 like enchanters yield 2 units per week
I would give sniper the S and B to ogre magi

Although I dont like ogre magi because of 5 speed, they are a real threat (high damage and ultra tanky). They should be either S or A tier but definetely not a C tier. Also greater basilisk is way better than horned demons (better speed and petrify chance). Energy elementals have average hp, low damage and good speed and fly. They arw no way better than greater basilisks.
This list should be re-evaluated. Thanks for the video tho.
Edit: I think iron golems have 6 speed 40hp about 80% spell damage reduction and good damage so at least B rank imho. Also the ranks depend on when you meet these creatures. After 1 month a group of vampire lords are not a threat but a group of silver pegasi or sharpshooters may kill some units. In the long game, sharpshooters become rank C or D because you cant produce a lot and 15 hp is too low but crusaders and ogre magi become exteremely valuable.
Vampire lords ❤ are always SSS saijan rank.
Energy elemental growth is 5, vs basilisk 4. That means, weekly growth is 175HP for elemental, vs 160 for g.basilisk. But damage is 25 vs ~33 in g. basilisk favour. So E. elementals are better as meat or utility- they are faster, and they teleport- while basilisk deals more damage, and can stone. About the same good overall, I'd say.

* I always thought it was 4 not 5 , I never play conflux.
* I only compared 2 units. Gold, growth etc. not considered. I think, they might have also added but if you add them conflux is still very weak (tactical tier 1, best tier 2, low damage meat tier 3, average tier 4, worst tier 5, weak tier6-7) but GB> horned demons (no matter what including demon farming). GB > EE IMHO.
* GOLD should also be excluded imho because you pay the unit price if you go/invest full on that unit stack --- both cost the same 400gp so for 2.000 gp you have 5vs5 (not 5vs4).
* Speed & flight: Also speed 8vs7 (basiliks are 2 squares) means you need 2 turns and EE moves 16 hexes and GB moves 2x7+1=15 hexes (flight is a bonus). But FLYING is still very important but 2 turns is not very good.
* GROWTH : 5vs4 + elemental confluxes can easily increase growth.
Overall, excluding other considerations (such as elemental conflux & FIUR the planeswalker bonus is also very good) GB can be similarly ranked with EE but still better than EE: However way better than horned demons. IMHO

Vamps are The best
It's too expensive to build Pegasus, compare with Vampire Lord expense, Vampire Lords are really OP so their requirement for upgrade is worth, but Pegasus is not worth 15 crystal to build
