This is a tier 7 creature tier list video for Heroes of might & magic 3: Horn of the Abyss.

Wow I always thought Inferno was weak
HotA buffed Inferno in few ways, most notable being introducing negative luck to the game (indirect huge buff to the devils, who have -1/-2 to enemy luck). That alone is a huge help to the town that has the lowest total hp pool in entire game.
EDIT: that doesn't change the fact that inferno does suck. Lvl1 is only better to peasants, lvl2 upg has no stat increase except for speed and fireball, lvl4 is average, whole reason for lvl5 existance is to make more lvl4 from lvl1 and we have only cerbers, efreets and archdevils - all of them strong, fast and dangerous. Also, whole army is squishy - even of you ignore first 2 tiers it's somewhere around 20/40/60/80/200 (might be wrong about cerbers and archdevils, but not by a far margin).
I love inferno the most, but it belongs way lower.
I love this and appreciate it, but it is definitely not relevant. Since you rarely have more than 4 out of the 7 in your army it would make more sense to sum up the 4 best ones. But even then, if a town happen to have strong lower tier units, that is also not relevant, since your army needs higher tier ones (and vice versa). Not to mention that it is hard to factor in upgraded versions, because you definitely don't have both in your army.
I appreciate the effort, but the tier list is already very subjective and to make it to a complete table is fun but basically useless. The closest thing to measuring the value of creatures is the AI value.
Still, I gave a thumbs up for the effort. I also like to structure and organize things :)
And this doesn't look anything like the tier list for factions. So conflux has the worst units but's still the best overall.
I'm glad to see the Ancient Behemoth get some love. My friends always teased me for liking those guys, but I love them.
They are tier 7 unit killers.Trait that gives them to ignore units armor on attack is one of the best things unit can have.Huge hp pool and the fact they are insanely strong with buffs like lust/haste/prayer makes them killing machines.They are like gorgons with Death Stare designed to kill tier 7.Only weakness is they are slow and no flyers but thats to ballance them out otherwise they would prob be more broken then Archangels

Well, Ancient Behemoths can not fly or shoot & they are pretty slow for tier 7 creature, but their attacking ferocity makes up for most of it. If they would be fast as an average dragon, they could probably match Archangels.
I totally agree! They are great monster killers. Awesome for taking down strong troops with plenty of defense.

Azure, crystal and rust dragons are tier 10. Faerie are tier 8. From the SoD game manual :)

By the way Azures have 500 health in Hero of Light mod which makes them at least look like tier 8 units.

Rust dragons have 1 more ability which also deals damage based on the number of units.
All neutral tier 7 creatures are better than any of the other, but they are so expensive and so rare that they play no role. If you were able to stack them reliable on a map, then they would be a super effective powerstack, but they are a meme.

azure, crytsal, rust fairie dragon etc are not counted as level 7 creatures. they exceed that threshold, and are technically level 8 creatures. especially Azure dragons
i dont think azure a meme tho, sure you cant stack them since they spawn like one a month? but that fear effect is insane, i would say pretty worth sacrificing one stack.

@@PedroHawk1 There are only 2 other armor specialists in the game, and Tazar has best class for it, as beastmaster he has highest defence of all classes. Neela isn't even a might hero, and she has scholar which is bad for main. Mephala is very good, just worse than Tazar.
I would say Tazar is a bit better than Crag Hack (who is second best of non-campaign heroes), because armorer protects both from melee and ranged, while offence only affects melee, and because armorer makes it even easier to not loose units, and has nice synergy with resurrect/heal and archangels.

Archangels are very fast, you get to go first in almost all cases. Any unit that cannot be built in a town, should be in a separate list. You may never see them in the game.
I hate that all your arguements about the Gold Dragons are true, I love them so much! (biased Rampart player here). I guess their biggest upside is their speed advantage possibly enabling your grand elves.
But a great list Lexiav, really been looking forward to this one... and the rest that are coming.
I feel same about the Rampart and the 5th lvl booster spells effect on Gold Dragon ,what means this ( chinese looking dragon ) is a real good/teamplayer Dragon.
Crystal dragons have the ability to generate crystals, so they slowly pay for themselves and in a gigantic single maps they may become a viable unit
Only one of them counts for crystal accumulation, the ability doesn't stack. Therefor it would be best to hire just one of them.
If any at all. Because you get only 3 crystals a week, making this investment worth less than half a crystal mine.
And if you want to mass them as a viable battle stack even in large maps, you get the problem to spend too much gold on them (that you will want and need for other troops).
Apart from the fact that they accumulate painfully slow (one per week). So you might prefer another unit that grows in abundance and that doesn't hurt your morale for your main battle hero, too.
But one of them is quite nice on a secondary supply chain hero.

Bruh, Might and Magic lore is on crack, we are talking about a battle cyborgs, not some celestial entities. Under any circumstances you should be surprised by their arsenal, they got blasters n shiet in the RPG.

As with other Hax units, my favorite idea is to keep a few stacks of small amounts (1-2) of ghost dragons to attempt to agehax the powerstack of the opponent. Unless they get AOE'd they usually pull it off in the first round, and it really pays off because if the opponent used his spellcast already he will be mauled by an immediate implosion.

Yep a lot of M. gorgons are extremely annoying, a good farm of M Gorgons can be dangerous as A. Behemoth to destroy other tier 7 units

I like the fact they are very cheap compared to other T7 while still being fast and being useful despite its weaker stats, feels like you get what you paid for

I like hydras a lot, I'm just a sucker fortress (beastmaster 80s theme hell yeah). I have no delusions of them being S tier or something, but they are very solid and easy to get.
"neutral" dragonsshould have Their own tier list, they are way to rare, costly and powerfull to be compared to t7 units

@@Scrubwave Only 1 of special dragons is actually good tho, so yeah, most of "special" dragons are worse than basic T7 in actual game, and this is HOTA Multiplayer tier list
there is a type of Jebus map where you get neutral dragons from Pandora's Box. And still, 2-4 neutral dragons won't do much against a big powerstack of Ancient Behemoths, Archangels etc, they are rather for tanking + utility

As a Stronghold main, my soul is satisfied with this result.
I like your list. Thematically I love the devils. They look so cool, so evil, so tricky. The whole idea is devils are supposed to be tricky and outsmart their opponents. But, they always fall flat for me. I really think the OG developers made archangels too fast and too strong and that really hindered the devils. IMO archdevils should have the 18 speed, and archangels should be like 13 or 14 speed.
To go alongside the "tricky" theme I think it would be cool if devils did one of two things: cast magic mirror randomly before their turn (like the enchanters) or have the ability to cast clone. Of course, those spells school of magic don't fit too well with inferno, but thematically I think it makes sense.
That being said: I love that HOTA added negative luck. The archdevil's minus 2 luck was such a non-utility in SOD, but is now pretty useful.
Speed-wise, I think it's actually ok (though I really, really hate firebirds and phoenixes... don't get why they are the fastest units in the game).
For the arch-devils, they do have no enemy retaliation, which is quite powerful. And the fact that they're only one space, that's a bonus. However, their 200 HP is garbage tier, and for no reason I'd say, as they're very expensive. Also, being an upgrade for an expensive unit, I'd say that they should have better damage. 30-40 is really low. I guess the developers wanted to balance its no retaliation.
I think the combat stats for what they cost is a bigger problem than their speed. You can't make them too fast for no retaliation would allow you to wait, attack and return with no punishment. However, it costs a fuckton and you'd be better off with Sultans in most cases
@@Winnetou17 Yea, 30-40 damage equals 35 on average. The archangel does 50 on average and have higher stats in everything else as well. If you count the fact that you get twice as many Phoenixes as Arch devils from a weeks growth then they do 70 damage on average. And they can hit two units with the same attack so thats 140 damage. Or 4 times the damage output of an Arch Devil and twice the HP. Honestly I dont know how both of those units can share the same tier...?

@@dimitaraleksandrov6381 i dont think theres a way for a fake breathe attack. Its a matter of the hex grid u want to attack. For exmple, a dragon facing east occupies 2 hex grid. Hex 1 = the face of dragon while hex 2 is the body. Depending of the point of your target grid, you can evade the attack. I dont think also it the attack is like of upgraded Magogs

Other than in super long games, I find that the only Tier 7s I like to invest in are
Archangel - flying, revive
Black Dragon - flying, raw power
Titan - ranged, raw power
Phoenix - SPEED
Phoenix is S+ for me. It allows you to always go first all other things being equal.

Chaos hydras, one stack, with andrea and resurrection is my favourite way of playing Fortress.
Half of the time enemy units are too scared to even get close.
Keep in mind that Phoenix's are the fastest unit in the game which can make your hero run longer + it lets you start in every battle - which means you are the first one to cast a spell aswell. VERY STRONG UNIT
im late but units above speed 11 doesnt give you extra movement points, speed 15 or 21 gives you just as much as 11. but yes speed prio in battle is a big one

These are well done, only thing I'd argue is you underestimate Haspids. The revenge ability is so broken and those things are wrecking machines. You HAVE to use magic against them which opens up all other creatures in the army to be better than normal.
Bone Dragons as a power stack on a map with few castles but many random dragon roosters can be unkillable as you can convert all the other dragons to Bone Dragons in the skeleton transformer... That said, it's kinda niche, but when it happens it's INSTANT victory. Kinda cool
I will force Hydras into my armies any time I can simply because I think they look really really cool
Strength wise in 1v1 combats the list went something like this (if I remember correctly, since I tested it a long time ago):
Archangel, Archdevil, Ancient Behemoth, Gold Dragon, Black Dragon, Titan, Hydra, Ghost Dragon, Phoenix.
Please do a tier list for the terrain types.
I do agree about the Angles cool attack sound.
Problem with Homm3 is that 3D0 actually made the perfect game, so they went bankrupt, because why would you honestly play anything else! :D
The problem is, Heroes 4 is better!
I know I will be beaten by all of you, but I still like HoMaM 4 much more than any other game from this series.
@@JuckiCZ Heroes 4 is a good game, yeah. But it feels more like a spin-off than a continuation / sequel of Heroes 3. Which I think was what a majority of the player base expected. Like going from heroes 3 to heroes 5 feels more natural than going from either of them to heroes 4.
i'd say upgraded sea serpents are actually a tier cuz of their high health and battle stats, upgraded sea serpent can beat any t7 unit 1v1

It is worth noting that exotic dragons are listen as 8-10 level creatures by game creators. And some of them still lose to level 7s ;)

Ahaha. No i wasn't aware of this lore :D I'm more into the HOMM games for gameplay, and didn't dwell into the MM saga, atleast yet :)
As for the tiers, the wiki shows them as tier 7, and many sources do treat them as t7 aswell, but i have seen some point to them as tier 8-10, so it isn't exactly news to me, but still having a lonely dragon per list seems meh, so here they are :)

Hydra if you can get dwelling in early game can do hives on its own, dragon flies are scared od her special abillity, I like them alot even though they are slowest of tier 7. And I'm surprised that Haspids are so low in the list, because 1 vs 1 they can outbrawl everything except exotic dragons, even AA's and AB's. But otherwise pretty reasonable list :)
Haspids can do ridiculously high damage, if the fight is a long one, or they suffer many casualties. They can do +1000% damage. I've had 10 Haspids do the same damage as 100 of them. So much potential, but they don't fly or have an immunity. Imo poison could be replaced with something better. 12 speed is atleast better than Titans.

And to think that in unpatched base game (ROE retail release) AA's only costed 5000g. No gems. They were straight up cheaper than titans.
I mean that the Azure Dragon should be considered a tier of their own ... being Neutral and scarce, it's natural to be a bit stronger when it cannot be consistently found.
Wake of Gods uses an 8th level for the rare dragons and some new creatures.
@@garrettducat5769 I'm aware, but Lexiav put them in tier 7 and announced that it will be the final Creature tier list.
My change: 1) Sea Serpents and Haspids +1. Especially Haspid is so good: fast, tanky, crazy skills and damage. I would even put it on A tier, they are at similar or even better than Ancient Behemoths beceause of speed. 2) Rampart dragons, ok they are slighty worse than Dungens dragons, but not that much worse (-2 in your list). +1 in tier for those dragons. 3) The diffence between Azure and Crystal Dragons, So in Your list Azure is on top and Crystal is on bottom. IMO there is not so much diffrence between them. Ofcourse Azure is stronger but it cost 50% of gold more. Ok it is at least 50% better, but it is all quite balanced. So its matter of decision where is to put them on list, but they should not be separated so much in tiers. The biggest difrence is mostly on Fear skill, but that is it.
Anc. Behemonths are better because they are cheaper and their passive makes tanky stuff into a paper and paper into a mush.
Rampart dragons should be -1 not -2 I agree.
Azure dragons are also flying, have 3 extra speed which is insane, fear is powerful as hell. I would say crystal dragons are high C maybe low B tier in situations where you don't need it to fly which is almost never.
@@GRIMHOOD99 I can ganerally agree but with Behemots/Haspids imo in most of games price is importand but not as much, i mean on tier 7+ more importand is power of the unit, and as a late game comes there is usually enough of gold anyway so... power>cost efficiency so Yes BEhemots are more cost efficent but Haspids are more powerful and as 7+ tier i would chose Haspid. But just my opinion
Behemot dwelling can be build on day 2 and upgraded is doesn't have any bonus requirements, Sea Serpent dwelling you can barely made in the end of the weak and upgraded one is really resource demanding, Behes are great at any point of the game,Haspids not so much. Dragon Cliffs are insanely expensive to build, Green dragons are utter trash + Gold dragons will usually die with couple of implosion spells. Azure Dragons fly, have fear, have breath attack, AND are immune to slow. Crystal dragons are completely worthless in comparison
@@piorundip8705 real power of the behemoths is how early they are accessible, by the time you get your first haspid you can have a bunch of behemoths. If it was 1 to 1 ratio in building haspids would demolish ancient behemoths because revenge and poison are stupidly powerful but for the map clearing behemoths are such an insane asset that they overshadow so many other better units. Phoenixes are garbage unit on paper except for speed but that speed converts to battle order and to map exploration and that is huge. So yeah if you ask me whether I want 10 haspids or 10 anc. behemoths but that is not how the game progresses.
I can agree that Behes are easy to produce compared to Sea Serpents, but then why hard to produce T7 units are so high in this ranking? Black Dragon is one of the worst and its problem to get them in week 1, and Hydra also is relative fast and cheap to acces. So maybe Hydra should go up and Black Dragon down?
Amazing tier list videos by you, mate, very good job, and I absolutely agree with this particular, except my beautiful fire chickens. I mean they’re not that strong but their looks make them the absolute best unit in the game for me.

I am by far a noob at this game but I did play most of the factions a few times. I would argue that gold dragons belong at either top or middle of b tier. They allow that faction to instantly switch to Armageddon mid game which allows to save other units from being used until it is time for the big battles at the end.
I would love to hear some thoughts on this.
Phoenix belongs in S because you get 4 of them a week beside all the things you've said like top speed, resurrection and breath attack, other than that, tier list is accurate imo and was fun to watch thank you for making great content!
In Horn of the Abyss their growth is back to 1 (2 with Castle) per week. Their previous growth was such bullshit, this was very much needed.

@@toramaru2490 It's community made, but very high quality. That is, respecting of the original ideas, so to speak. Besides balance changes, they added a lot of quality of life improvements (well, some from other modders), stable multiplayer, including simultaneous turns (like, the first 5-8 days, people play at the same time, instead of one after the other). The also added 2 new towns. The second one got released like literally last week, after being in beta for like several years. And a new series of campaigns for this new town.
Long story short, HotA is like the defacto standard way to play HoMM 3 nowadays. Especially for multiplayer.

I would say, because they cost SO much, they are tier 7, what would you want, 10 Bone Dragon, or 1 Fairy/Crystal/Rust? Because the cost is kinda the same, yes the accuring of these units is like 10/5 vs 1 week, BUT because its one week, you usually dont have the gold to warrent buying one, you can buy 5 heroes and a dwelling instead of an exocic dragon. In late game they are good, and can have their own tier, but Jubes maps are about tempo, they are over in less then 2 weeks or and takeing the their dwelling will bleed your army. So even for tier6 standards they are not that good
Yeah but you get like 1-3 neutral dragons stacks, while having 30-50+ other tier 7 stacks, so those neutral dragons are only good for tanking and utility
Ghost dragons using their aging ability on ancient behemoth... Wouldn't be too impactful from lore perspective, since they are ancient lol

Balancing though? Ye it sucks. Tier 8 archangels still stronger than any other tier 8 unit and gets 2 resurrections.
Azure Dragons and other exotic dragons (except Fairy dragons?) is a tier 10 unit in map editor. League of their own, too strong even for tier 8.
All those high tier units suffer from low Damage:HP ratio which makes them big tanks. None of those units put up significant damage per gold spent. Azure has damage 70-80 with 1000 hp, yet a standard archangel has damage 50 with 250 hp. This is true for tier 8 units from WOG too. It's not worth investing into them that much, as they cost a ton of money but don't hit hard enough.
I would put C.Hydras in B tier. Yea they are slow, but the aoe attack is nice. It's not that uncommon to be able to hit more than one creature, since it's not a breath it doesn't need to be in a line and the no reatal makes it free. I think they are a solid B tier.
Solid B?😂 What do you mean?? Worst health and damage and speed of any tier 7 unit and they cost so much for no reason at all. They have speed 9 and have 225 health very low stats and literally no damage. Terrible against shooters, no tankiness, no stats, no damage, high cost. Tell me a tier 7 unit worse than that... Firebirds deserve a C tier. They surprisingly die extremely fast. 10 archmagi can kill a firebird in non-shooting combat.
@@DOGEreal Firstly you got the stats wrong, second I never said 'solid' B, just B. Also as far as an upgraded tier7 unit goes, they are dirt cheap to buy. Again, one of the worst tier7 in homm3, but I don't think it's C tier level. IMO ofc.
I was getting to say the angels weren't at the right place considering other unit like Arch Devils under him, but after checking stats myself, it is true that the angels are really godlike (lol) compared to them, they hit stronger, have the same health and are cheaper, only downside is they have less mobility. Now i see that HotA buffed them a slightly by adding to arch devils a -2 to morale.
I think this is so great that a game that depict a divine figure, finaly place them at the top of the top, it becomes so rare to see this those days and that little things like that, which gives so much soul to this game in my opinion =)

My ideea of making a top 10...20... most powerful creatures would be first the relation between the cost and what you get for those resources.
For instance an AZURE DRAGON is 30 k gold and 20 mercury (I'm not sure, but lets suppose is correct).
In this scenario, a fair comparison would be how many DEVILS could you buy with the same amount of resources, after you pay also for the dwell in your inferno town.
Or, how many ... Giants, or Gold Dragons can you got for the equal amount of resources?
In the end the question would be what is better to have : 1 AZURE or 5 ARCHDEVILS ?
AND I TOLD SANDRO TO BRING THE DRACOLICH 😂
In case you don't know about Dracolich, they are same tier with Azures, 4 shots, not meele penalty, a bit less damage, 45 defense and offense plus chance to block damage when hit. They are from WoG.

It would be nice to have some variety, lets say we can introduce an analog to Griffin Bations with other units and have Arch Angels as a reward?! I also played thousands of games and i doubt i have more than 4 games where i don't have Angels or Arch Angels in my army :D Dont get me wrong its my favorite unit on par with the Azure Dragons.. But it would be nice to get some Devils or Dragon Bations and have those generate/spawn more often than the Griffin Bations just for variety :D

Hey guys does anyone know why while using crAnim.txt for speeding up the combat, my game loses large amount of fps? Walking with creatures works fine but attacking and getting morale slows my game by so much that its unplayable. Thanks for advices :)
The biggest weakness of archangels are the skeletons, lots and lots of skeletons. I just loved killing archangels with skeletons. I played the game only for that reason.
I am pretty sure Green Dragon have 180hp just like red.
I Was expecting Archangel to be in S+ but Heavens will do:) Archangels are actually more buffed than titans.
The worst part of Crystal Dragon... they can’t fly! (Easy to get blocked by enemy, and castle wall is a big problem for them too)
Aren't greens 180 hp instead of 160? That makes them above average in tankiness

I mostly agree with your rankings, but I think you should've put more focus on the "flying" attribute.
It gives a lot of advantages in attacking and defending the towns.
