I love how Toriyama just doesn’t care anymore, yet he’s so respected in Japan. No one had the balls to go against Toriyama for his “super hero” name, it’s hilarious

I have heard over a decade ago that Piccolo was his favorite character. At the time I did not know if the rumors were true, but this interview confirms it.
This is my favorite DB movie of all time. Just finished the movie with great SUBTITLES lol. I was so happy to find it. The end conversation with piccolo and Gohan not only gave us an insane amount of info about how strong Cell Max was, but we find out Gohan actually WAS secretly training. Beautiful.

I truly hope that this films success will instill the desire in Toriyama to make Piccolo entirely relevant from no one with more and more power boosts till he is no longer second to Vegeta and Goku. Piccolo is my fav as well and he deserves to always shine in the franchise.

Anyone who is surprised about Toriyama in the super hero name thing really doesn't know the man lol. He has done antics like this most of his career lol, I'm just shocked to see so many people not know about Toriyama's legendary forgetfulness.

Let's give Toriyama some slack, the man's been in creativity mode for nearly 40 years on 1 series. Memory and especially continuity memory is a gift lol.
@@gamerarts8455 Having to write a story consistently for an entire decade, while also introducing new stuff and elements into said story, you tend to forget stuff. I'm surprised Toriyama managed to write a new chapter every week for 10 years straight.
Toriyama himself even admits how forgetful he is and the occasional inconsistencies, in fact he says his forgetfulness is intentional, as it's how he comes up with new stuff.
If you remember back before the TOP arc Geekdom, Gohan told his dad that he wanted to achieve an ultimate power that no Saiyan had ever achieved before and this movie definitely showed that in the 3rd aka Final Act Of The film
Yeah but we don’t really know of this form does that or not . Plus this movie makes it feel like he forgot he said that . I get vibes we won’t ever see this form in good anime form for like a very long time or maybe not at all . Not including dragon ball heroes . I know they will do it asap

I feel like Toriyama kinda wanted the return of the big 5 Z-Fighters. Remember in the Android Saga, Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta and Trunks were strongest heroes of the arc. They were all relatively close in power. I think Toriyama seen that Goku and Vegeta were starting to vastly overshadowed everybody so he gave Piccolo and Gohan new forms so that the power levels are relatively close.
Something people forget is that Piccolo said Vegeta had surpassed Goku in the Android Saga
Now all he needs to do is make a movie for trucks, and give him his damn og hair back. Idk why they changed it to blue.
That trunks isn't from this time line. It wouldn't be his movie. I think it's time for our version of trunks to step up

Toriyama really write a good script for Piccolo and Gohan. As a Piccolo fan, I am satisfied and been waiting for this for very long time.
I've never really been a fan of piccolo but I respect his charecter. Glad they gave gohan and piccolo screen time.

Recipe for success in the future: side by side storytelling with gohan and piccolo defending earth from constant threats and goku and vegeta defeating enemies on other planets. Kinda how Z did it with developing a ton of characters at the same time. Keeps everyone happy and makes for a dope ass series. Especially when gohan and piccolo reunite with goku and vegeta eventually for an inevitable ultimate villain. The possibilities are endless lol
Toriyama REALLY enjoyed this movie and I’m sure he’s noticing the it’s getting a lot of attention. Hope he doesn’t drop the ball with this because dragon ball is starting to get more exciting than ever 👏🏽🙏🏽

All I gotta say is finally. I hope DBS goes back to being like the Android Saga where each main character took turns being the strongest and having the spotlight. As much as I love Goku and Vegeta even I have to say it feels refreshing to see Gohan and Piccolo be relevant again.

I like how he said that he made this movie "light hearted" from the previous film. Like a roller coaster..it's good to go "high intensity"(broly movie) to "light hearted"(super hero). I agree I love that.

One thing I am excited about is vegeta acknowledging gohan‘s new power, the entire history of the show from Dbz / dbs he’s always said that gohan had the most potential, I’m excited to see what he says or what do with that, if they do at alll

They finally starting to see yes we love Goku and Vegeta but there's so many other characters that we've grown to love and have relationships with in a sense we want to see everybody build up character development as well as explore the other universes

I hope that they will explore/show Gohan and piccolos new forms in the manga maybe in the next arc or so but I’m afraid the main reason for the new forms was just to sell toys and digital content like usual.

I kinda hated Gohans transformation. Loved piccolo's tho, he deserved something after so long, and it makes more sense than the bullsh transformation of Gohan.
Many of us pray they will NEVER incorporate any of this into the manga or anime, myself included.

It’s not like piccolo or gohan will be used often and I doubt goku or vegeta would care about them.

I'm so glad that toriyama shared his thoughts and opinions about the movie from production to end product and even mindset behind certain decisions. I get so annoyed with some of the people who pick the movie apart and just complain away which shows they don't really get the nature of toriyama who truly just enjoys cartoons and fun more than depth and forcing everything to make sense. I mean everyone has an opinion and no one has to agree but dang be grateful that we get to see the work of this hardworking staff and toriyama while he's still alive and kickin. Hopefully people who see this interview can get a better idea of why the movie was made the way it was and appreciate it a little more.
I agree, people watch DragonBall expecting in depth character development and plots like it's Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon or Ghost in the Shell. If you're expecting that from DragonBall then you're watching the wrong anime.
For me its the opposite, I've been seeing a lot of people whine and complain about the movie so I'm glad to hear that the reception overall is pretty positive and that Toriyama himself enjoyed it. Personally, the movie surprised me. I didn't have any real thoughts on it originally but after seeing it i really liked it.
They're just the overtly vocal minority who'll hate on it for shits & giggles yet STILL line up to watch the damn thing Day 1 lmao

Seeing how much screentime Piccolo is getting, it's no surprise Toriyama wanted him to be the focus of the movie, but Toei made the right call including Gohan.
Maybe now they'll realize they don't have to include Goku and Vegeta into everything to make Dragon Ball sell well, they honesty could've taken them out of the movie all together if they weren't going to contribute to the plot.

@@razien9941 Well, like I said, that's what other people are saying. I looked up the form, and it basically is the same thing but with red eyes instead of green eyes like most pics I've seen.
My theory is that saiyan's hair turns black with potential unleashed and silver when fully unleashed. Gohan achieved it by old kai and his own efforts, goku achieves it via ultra instict, ultra instinct automatically unlocks all the potential of the body by it self to reach necessary power required, omen was black hair, mui is silver, that would also explain why it was difficult to use ui for goku. This gohan's new form is just saiyan's full potential mastered, and mui is that only base version (no ssj hair) + ui stacked on top. Ui can be stqcked onto any form, but as explained before, mui requires mastery of all potential, so thus silver hair, thats why it tool him so long to use omen and mui at will
@15:38 I'm so stoked for this film, I'm SUPER (lol pun intended) happy that Goku and Vegeta are not the main focus AND that it is doing so well. This should tell Toriyama and Toei that fans want to see other characters shine and grow stronger too. Here's hoping this movie permanently makes Piccolo relevant again and that he keeps getting more powerful till he rivals Vegeta and Goku as well as Gohan.
The love for Piccolo he has is bleeding through this whole thing. Even went so far as to draw Tori-Bot in the Piccolo Clothes! I love that he mentioned Piccolos backstory and "complicated origin" as he called it. Like Im telling you i swear this man is getting ideas now. His excitement and love for Piccolo is going to make him explore more of that Origin, and also whatever the future holds for Piccolo and how It might tie into the whole Main narrative surrounding the Super DragonBalls. Namekians are just as important to DragonBall as Saiyans, and there is no Namekian more important to DragonBall than Piccolo. I never been more excited for the future of Dragonball and my favorite character, and, from what Toriyama is saying, I think he feels exactly the same way. And you cannot lie. Piccolo is low key the main character and star of the whole movie. Toriyama snuck that in

There is huge lore of the nameks that can be explored beyond there connection to the dragon balls..I felt the studio executives kept Toriyama from going in with Piccolo and his ppl..I really hope he is now pushing for his fav and we keep Piccolo and Gohan in the mix right beside Goku and Vegeta going forward.

@@shootingreal5945 yes exactly I feel the same way. Toriyama probably has many ideas to explore different characters and other things, but the studios sometimes forcibly restrict him to keep the focus entirely on Goku and Vegeta.
It's clear here he was able to actually step back from that and do something that he really wanted to do, as opposed to something he needed to do just for the studio. This was definitely a passion project for Toriyama and he put a lot of love into it. Yes he wasn't heavily involved in the production but he wrote the script, all the major plot points, and he does all the original character designs, which means you know he's the one who came up with the ideas for Yellow form and Orange Form Piccolo. I really dont think he's just saying all this to sell the movie. Toriyama honestly doesn't speak that much, hearing him gush over the movie like this, it's real man, Toriyama excitement is real.
Piccolo acted childish in the movie. For someone like him idk if forcing gohan to fight through faking a kidnap is good ☠️.

I liked Gohan and Piccolo vs the Gammas way more than Gohan vs Cell Max. The final fight was too short, Gohan hit him one time blasted him and he was dead.
Yea that hurt… love the forms, love the student teacher combo, wished there was more of the form kicking ass; maybe in the anime 😭
Not just too short, Gohan's final form was way too simple. Like he watched his friend get hurt and became stronger than both God Ki and UI out of nowhere. No absorbing spirit bomb, no following his own pride, no training with god of destruction and an angel, just being angry. Dragon Ball has some asspulls already, but this was unexpectedly a big one, and wasn't even explained
I personally haven't watched the movie but from what I've heard it sounds really really good and I'm really hoping to enjoy it whenever it comes over here and I hope the movie does well so that they know that what they did is the moving forward and I hope they don't go backwards because they're afraid to try new things 🐉

Imagine interviewing Toriyama and you could ask him about the year long debates like Gohan vs. Cell, Gohan SS1 or SS2 vs. Dabura, Dabura vs. Cell, Super Buu vs. Kid Buu, but instead you ask him what Piccolo's feet look like.

I loved the film, just wish Gohan did Kamehameha and Cells nucleus survived and the regeneration from that near death would've revived his brain for a true final battle lol but the fight was still good.

Dragon Ball is one of the rare anime/manga that I enjoy the slice of life segments.
I love this movie man. It's really a success! Glad Toriyama enjoyed it.
We need more dragon ball games and this is the perfect opportunity to make Dragon Ball games like the old days!
Fighterz is fun but I miss being able to transform and have beam struggles where you have to tap for your little warrior life or you get blasted.
Kakarot is also fun but the moves you can use are limited and there is no multiplayer.
I don't mind if they take the liberty of making a new character like they did with android 21, this way there will be characters added from the anime, movies, and games all into a shared canon. I love that idea and I hope they continue it.

on one side i am really happy for gohan fans man it was about time Gohan has his return as main in a movie, but i am more happy for piccolo he was left a side for so long and see him back as a stronger version LOVE IT.... and yes it was a really fun movie can wait to see it on a movie theater an hope we see more adventures with Gohan, Piccolo and the other Z warriors.

on a personal note... my only complain with this movies is how some people are taking too far the new form of Gohan claiming he is stronger than a Broly full power or even Gogeta Blue... and saying Cell Max is stronger that every villain... nah Cell Max was hurt by Fat Gotenks... Gamma 2 sacrifice to break his arm and yes Gamma 2 die but his power is on level of Gohan Ultimate... so if Gamma 2 could break Cell Max arm how in the world Goku and Vegeta wouldn´t help agains him? i think Gohan talked to much saying that. he is stronger yeah but now Goku UL and Vegeta UE are that weak?.
I think final Gohan might be stronger than ssb kaioken, but not close to ui or ue, if he starts training after this he might surpass Goku and Vegeta both

I have never been a Dragon Ball fan because I’ve never watched it. But I’ve always respected the training and hard work aspects. I figured it was a great inspiration for us outcasts and oddballs.
Went to see the movie with my son today. Outstanding. I enjoyed it far more than anything I’ve watched from Marvel/DC and that’s 90% of their stuff.
We put a hold on Dragon Ball dvds at the library. And got some books. I’m in. We have decades of catching up to do.

I enjoyed this film. You can tell Toriyama intended for it to be a Piccolo film first and foremost. I suspect the people at Toei told him to stick Gohan in there because of his popularity in the west. You can tell Toriyama is done with certain characters like Gohan who he doesn’t see as a fighter but fans keep forcing him into the story.
He wouldn’t give them both new forms and just side line them after I’m sure he did this because of popularity yes but also to incorporate them into a bigger role in the series moving forward

A good piccolo movie would've had namekian lore and not just a wish. The real piccolo would've brought Gohan in chains with a bag over his head, not chauffeur him to the base like a god damn Uber

I can appreciate this movie in that it feels like the most Toriyama involvement since Z. From his character designs to the humor it all feels like it came from his pen, which is so refreshing. You can kinda feel his lack of involvement in Super in a lot of ways
Was it a perfect film? No but was a great one Yes! They did a great job with trying out new things with making Gohan and Piccolo the lead it’s something different from the last movie with it not being all action with this one we got story and more side characters involved in the battle I mean last movie we didn’t get any of that so it’s nice they took a different route. We even got a new cell which yes it gives me bio broly vibes and it’s weird to me how Gohan got his new power out of nowhere hope it’s eventually explained but aside from that it opens the door to many things and can’t wait to see what happens next!

Have a big threat happen in universe 6 which would force the z fighters to assist universe 6 (and would also include Gohan Vegeta trunks Goten piccolo and Goku visiting universe 6 since Vegeta promised cabba to viis there someday anyway) and leave the human z fighters at home and have a threat also happen there with them having to level up to defend earth

I really enjoyed Piccolo's relationship with Pan, and how Piccolo orchestrated the capturing of her to get Gohan back into action. Piccolo comes out as your favorite uncle. So well written and executed 💜💜

Toriyama-san always being excited with his stuffs. But unfortunately he didn’t realise how horrendous Cell-Max’s design is.
From what I've heard his personality is completely different. Cell's personality was what made it so legendary. Without that I can't lmao. At least ressurection F stuck to our Freiza with upgrades. I'm fine with revamping the color's but the core of the character should still be there.

As soon as we saw cell max I was like this is Forsure toriyamas creation. He loves that second form a lot but shit changed with perfect cell. Cell 2nd form is chill but I’m glad they made it better tbh. Just imagine if he could also regenerate 😭 rip gamma 2

The point is… every sayajin of the “new anime” will have an individual transformation and this is rad! Goku and Vegeta with divine powers, Gohan with this final transformation and Broly with his limitless power!

What if Toriyama comes out saying all the movies, including all from Z and path to power were King Kai head canon. Lol As a kid I always imagined he was telling Gregory and Bubbles these stories about Goku, his family, and friends. I mean, he can only sense the presences throughout his quadrant but never knew how any of these bad guys looked, so the stories were similar as far as powerscaling goes but he had to add his own spin to the story for entertainment purposes and whatnot 😅
I don't think Toriyama is wrong with the "uneveness". That means when a movie or chapter has different drawing styles throughout the scenes - "uneven"

Really liked it! After watching this video I want to watch it again. I didn’t see the Broly movie, I just couldn’t. But Super Super was fun, and totally nostalgic with bringing back the Piccolo and Gohan relationship. I mean DBZ is my fav, so maybe that’s why I brought myself out to see SUPER SUPER. And that thing Gohan did, man I almost cried. That movie is probably one of, if not; the best Dragonball movie. But I may be saying that, cause it’s the only one I seen in theaters. I was a bit skeptical, cause I didn’t like the shark android design, but their reason make their design totally understandable and great. Minor gripes nothing serious at all. Felt a little fast, guess I’m used to filler lol

Toriyama has made mistakes before, it is said that he forgot to put tails on Trunks and Goten, and he forgot about Launch, which honestly is not that much I suppose, but still Toriyama still makes some mistakes.

One she is basically nice, naive, a bit dumb, the next she is a gun mastermind crazy person. She is basically the average American. Her personalities change when she sneezes. She could've been in Dragon Ball too, I watched Dragon Ball once, Z three or four times, and Super probably about 5 times. GT probably twice.

If she sneezes her hair would turn yellow or blue ,and if it turns blue she’s nice and sweet and when it turns yellow she’s a bandit like she has a mean like personality but cool . She wasn’t in z really but at the end of the buu arc when goku asked for energy for the spirt bomb launch shows up and gives him energy

I really really loved this movie. It's fun, spirited, energetic, and manages to balance great action with a sense of liveliness and wry humor not present in the series for a long time, to me anyways. I'll definitely be catching the stateside release and getting this bad boy on Blu ray. Two thumbs up 😎

The new series are good but the way they are structured is bad. Broly and the super hero movie should have been stories before the tournament of power. And the new arc should have taken place after the end of the last episode dragonball z.
as for Gohan, he said during his face off versus Goku Pre ToP that his goal is to find the ultimate form true to the saiyan lineage. This is it.

Since now that toriyama is trying to focus on the other characters and not just Goku and Vegita. I'd like to see a movie with an all earthling cast with minimal saiyan and piccolo involvement. Like a dramatic special of Yamcha being neglected and his inferiority struggles to keep up. He was originally a bandit and who knows what's he's been up to.
