I think it's to do with Super Hero not doing well in Japan for Toei's liking and so they decide to put it in manga form for those in Japan who didn't go see the movie.
You could be right. I was just wondering how these chapters have gone over in Japan, because sometimes it seems like these companies cater to theJapanese audience first and everyone else secondary (which makes sense, of course). Not sure if Toei has a history of this, though.
first of all huge fan. second of all I feel like even if super hero might not have done well in japan, they already preluded to a potential future arc with black frieza which could offer them even more money arguably. I think itd be kinda redundant if they put off the black frieza arc just so that they can milk even more money from super hero and not even do a good job in making the extra content of the super hero arc more interesting so imo i dont think that might be the reason
Super Hero wasn't even promoted properly. To me it seems like they have expected it to fail.
It seemed that it was merely an experiment to see how the audience would feel about the CGI.
That not gonna make Japan like super hero I pretty sure they hold the same fellings as the west at this point

@@franciscoaguilar2597 Here's the thing: it doesn't have to be either or, does it? Why are the only two options to wait over 5 years for an animated continuation or falling completely in line with the manga and catching up too quick? It's been 7 years since the U6 Arc and one of the biggest things on the fandom at large's wishlist is Vegeta visiting Universe 6 to meet the Saiyans there. It's been set up and everything in the series, but there's no payoff despite being right there. We've been hoping for adventures with other characters and/or with other universes, and all that came out was a handful of episodes/subepisodes in the anime.
Super Dragon Ball Heroes has been out since DBS ended and it's STILL churning out story arcs and tons of ideas. The episodes may be barely coherent, but the fact of the matter is that the *concepts* are there, and they are neverending. Hell, Dragon Ball Heroes itself has been throwing out crazy what-ifs since before Battle of Gods even came out.
Speaking of BoG: by the end of 2023, Super would officially surpass the original Dragon Ball manga in terms of release length (just under 11 years). We've gone from Pilaf to near the End of Z time-wise and there's no comparison between the progress made in the original manga and the "progress" made in Super. There's more than enough material that they can do, they just don't care about capitalizing on DB-and when they do, half of it is soulless fanservice rehashes of things we've already seen before and are tired of.
@@jerkfan123 we're two arcs post-DBS Broly. We are not even that far, unless they wanna squeeze Moro/Granolah arc out. I wouldn't expect much anyway when they've already told they were focusing on other IPs.

As a die hard One Piece fan, I feel so sorry that Toei is doing this to DB. Toriyama doesn't push for his own franchise enough cause I swear if this happened to One Piece then Oda would pull the rights straight from Toei and give it to someone else. The blatant ignoring of the franchise is just sad

Come on man One Pieces anime has been a waste of time till most recent. Oda wouldnt do a thing for One Piece, Toriyama came out when DBS was getting heat for it's anime. Oda never came out against One Piece and it's poor animation.

I agree 100% it's not fair at all to us diehard DB fans. We deserve a lot more from the most popular anime franchise in the world
DBS was a slap in the face with Gohan to begin with...then the movie came out and it was more of the same...just immediate power boost with no reasoning... No skinny Boo... it's like why hype it up if you're not gonna use the character... Power scaling was tossed out the window... no more gore or intense fighting. Like c'mon, make a serious anime out of this already... Give Goku his brains back, make great filler of the weaker Z fighters getting stronger and kick the next series off with some classic training, and threat build up. Instead we get Moro and a guy that wishes to be stronger with the dragon balls. I like the idea of black Frieza, I would love some sparring with universe 6. ect... Just let the story tell itself... Let a threat from one of the higher ranked universes come and keep it rolling.
Even the French are treating the original Dragon Ball anime with quality care in HD Blu-ray than Toei ever did

Toei and Shueisha have really treated Dragon Ball as a second-rate product, especially compared to how they treat One Piece. They hype fans up but they never truly deliver. DB as a franchise has become too corporate.
I mean, One Piece is bigger than DB in Japan. I don't think they pay attention too much to how big DB is out West.

Db being popular in the west is not why it's massive it was popular in other countries prior to US and europe

No anime,No hype manga arc,No movie announcement for the foreseeable future and DB BT4 has no release date yet. The DB franchise is in one of its biggest droughts ever and I don’t see it rebounding until late 2023-2024
The Broly movie actually has super interesting deleted story beats, such as a deleted kid Vegeta vs radditz fight and whatever Bardock was doing to look so beat down by the time Frieza destroyed the planet. Why couldn’t we get THAT. Wasn’t that movie like 3 hours long before they trimmed it down to be animated? It’s about to be 5 years and we still have had those blanks filled.
I would kill to see Vegeta and Raditz fight eachother., especially when they were younger and probably had closer power levels.
Because when Broly came out in theatres, TOP arc just ended in the manga. They couldn't cover the movie if it was just coming out, so they went past it to the Moro stuff. I think what you want, the anime adaption will give us that. If the anime does adapt, Broly, that is.
I dont like how db super goku is a child trapped in an adult body, in dbz or even gt, i loved how mature and sensible goku was.

You're complaining about how Goku was in the early portion of Super. He's been closer to his older self in the last couple of arcs now.

Big facts. I enjoyed the fans manga because those manga had stake and actual new ideas that made Dragon ball feel fresh
Since the late 90s. Hell, even the this one fan-fic that was borderline a romance novel (Dragon Ball Super Z by Juuhachi-gou) is better than anything I've seen in Dragon Ball since Battle of the Gods. Never mind the fan-manga and all those videos you most likely seen already.
Been keeping up with DBM for over a decade or so, but new good ones are Dragon Ball Kakumei, it has a distinct art style that and isn't shy from gore, but the stories it tells actually feel more DB than the Super Manga has for ages, and it capitalizes on the multiverse concept the main series failed to.
And another personal favorite is Dragon Ball New Hope. It's kind of have two narratives, one in the main time line where everyone died in the fight against Cell except Krillin and he's left to pick up the pieces. And another current arc dealing with Future Trunks's time where Trunks didn't come back due to dying and Bulma going to New Namek for aid. (For the record there's much more to that, and some really inventive twists.)
Honestly the last two fan mangas did something I hadn't felt in official series in some time, actual heart and passion, not just pandering for marketing, the narrative and story was the main focus.

Stories 100%, Animation not so much, but its definitely getting there with the boost in Technology we are experiencing atm. Fans carrying the franchise HARD tho, no denying that!

This is what I was afraid of.. they did the same when super started. They released the battle of gods movie and then showed it again when the anime came out. I hate that they do that.
I think it's pretty obvious they're going to retell both Broly and Super Hero AGAIN in like 20 episode rehashes if the anime does ever come back.
They also rehashed Resurrection F.
I think an anime story for Broly could really do a lot to flesh out his character and give him some needed depth and addition backstory.
People in the Dragon ball staff needs to stop this cause it’s getting ridiculous. They needs to:
1. STOP RETELLING MOVIES INTO MANGA
2. Stop the monthly release manga because no one is going to remember after one month it’s stupid.
3. JUST COPY THE MANGA INTO THE ANIME BECAUSE IF THE GOKU BLACK ARC AND T.O.P. From the manga was animated to the anime, those two arcs would have been WAY BETTER THAN IT IS TODAY.

Nah the Goku Black arc and the TOP arc were WAY better in the anime. Especially the TOP.
The T.O.P in both were kinda horrible in terms of pacing. The Anime dragged on, but the manga was rushed as hell.
Though I'd choose the anime version of the T.O.P any day Goku and Frieza teaming up along with 17 to put down Jiren with Ultimate Battle playing is just peak.

It’s atrocious what Toei has done to this franchise, and how they treat the fans. Very similar to Nintendo. It’s a damn shame that this amazing property we love is owned and in the hands of complete selfish dumbasses.

I am still under the conspiracy that Toei, Toriyama, and Shueisha are dragging things out because they really don't want to pass the end of Z. I don't think they really have any idea how to proceed. Plus also maybe looking for a replacement for Nozawa. Like it or not it's gonna have to happen sooner than later.
This one is it. Nozawa has played Goku for 37 years straight, and after Hiromi Tsuru’s tragic passing, I think that they’re incredibly nervous to start a weekly anime at her age, even despite her energy being able to carry the screams and energy through the past two movies and the games. Whether they like it or not, Nozawa is the lifeblood of Dragon Ball, she voices so many main characters and even a villain to this point.
They will have to do something like the Lupin the Third Part 6 episode 0, where Kiyoshi Kobayashi (R.I.P.) who played main sidekick Jigen for over 50 years (since the pilot film) did a send off to his performance and passed the torch off to another actor he apprenticed before his passing. It’s morbid to think about but it’s time to be realistic.
RN Dragon Ball Super is looking like pretty much a retelling of Superhero. Hopefully, this changes in the future and does their own thing
Once this retelling is over, the Black Frieza arc will begin
There should still be the moro snd granola arcs coming out also hopefully eventually
@@FEdelasJONS this will take several month, probably won't get to black Frieza until the second half of 2024 if they don't start doing weekly releases or tell the story faster by leaving some elements out (which would be ok since we already have the movie).

Not just boring. Its disrespectful. Guko is a legit man child now. Vegeta gets crapped on in every fight for Goku to save the day. The writing in super was C or lower tier most of the time (which for an anime this scale is unacceptable), same for tha animation. They have abandon power levels or anyway to power scale. Which was a HUGE deal in telling how strong these guys are. THEY DONT CARE! They want us older people that grew up with it to stop caring so they can sell toys to a younger audience that doesnt care about story. IDC if its a stretch I truly believe it at this point. No other reason why things turned out this way.
This feels like the beginning of the Buu Saga. I'm not sure where it's going but I think it'll be alright when it's all said and done.

@@Alex-dr6or No, that's not what I meant. I meant how all of this is going to end in terms of going into the next ark and beyond. When I said it felt the same, I was drawing the comparison between Gohan and Trunks. Gohan going to school and then the world martial arts tournament that led into the greater Majin Buu saga that ended Z, feels similar to what's going on now with the current manga chapters. A small opening Ark followed by a long main ark. I know how Super Hero ends, but SH is just an opening. I'm curious about the middle and the ending, that's what I meant.
Well, no. for me the buu saga got worse as it went along, the first quarter of the arc was the best part imo.
And since i've already seen the movie, this is incredibly pointless.
Nah I have low expectations, with the way the last arc was , the black freeza wil not be as good as people are hyping it out to be.

The black Frieza cliffhanger was huge. That’s still out there. I do think we are going to see more explicit nods to it in the next chapter alone…the movie had to dance around the manga so as not to spoil anime onlies who went to see the movie (eg, Vegeta’s Jiren comparison even though they have fought and met many stronger opponents since). They are moving through the film pretty quickly, and I’m excited to see how they handle Gohan Beast and Cell Max - then the aftermath is going to be critical. What happens then? How much of a breath are they all going to have before they have to scramble and take out Black Frieza?
The pieces are falling into place and I’m honestly not too upset right now - we should all just chill. I do wish they would get back to adapting the anime at this point. That’s my only real frustration.
Giving Toei a reality check
DBS is collapsing under it’s own bloated weight right now and it all does is constantly squander the potential it used to have, compared to DBZ and even DBGT this series has fallen off hard which is a damn shame after how DBS started off so good with BOG and the possibilities that were opened up from that movie was limitless.
Oh, please, GT had a lot of potential with its ideas, and that show was squandered also.
@Here's Johnny! Super has been off air for 5 years, and maybe that's a good thing, considering the response it had when it was airing. Let's not complain now that the show isn't back.
The fact that the manga took a three month break for a mid SoL THEN a movie retelling arc without any anime content is such an embarrassment.

Toei and Shueisha are expecting the popularity to last forever. They treat their fan base terribly and could possibly damage it beyond repair. To NOT have an anime in 5 years and delay it simply due to their ego is sad. Broly was peak and they simply thought that would be enough for years.
I said it before and I'll say it again: Toei is the Disney of Japan as both are biting the hands that feed them as well as abusing Copyright Laws. Shueisha, Toei's partner in crime, is also biting the hands.

They simply need to do ANIME series again, period. The final episode of Dragon Ball Super was shown on plazas worldwide via RUclips, 1 hour after the official Japanese release. Freaking ADULTS cheering live at Goku & Frieza kicking Jiren's ass.
But at the same time you go to any social media and you see the same repeat post over and over and over and over again about how Super sucked and how the Manga is better than the Anime. If I know my japanese companies which at this point I think I do, that might be the reason why there's no anime as of yet, they keep on seeing post about how the anime sucks while still posting the same god damn frame from Super Episode 5.

That was such a good time, the end of the T.O.P was a global event, really took me back to the good old toonami days when I'd watch DBZ at 5pm after school every day.

I 100% agree with this idk what the issue is behind the scenes but the treatment for dragon Ball has been horrendous ever since post DBS Broly and the fact toei is holding manga content hostage instead of allowing to be represented in the games is a huge "L" and when it comes to the anime there really can't be an excuse as to why they haven't brought it back they have 3 full arcs they can adapt and expand on but instead the anime is on hiatus for whatever reason yet they've been announcing anime for the most random series
I think the anime being off air for this long is a good thing, so it doesn't catch up to the manga. It that isn't the reason it's taking so long, then yeah, I don't get it.

I mean...if you saw Facebook and Twitter Dragon Ball fans, you too would get that idea. The amount of people wanking over Gohan's most recent repeat of the "I didn't train for ages and after Piccolo whipped me into shape I surpassed Goku" arc is absolutely ridiculous.

Really? Cuz it seems that they are treating them like WWE fans. There is no new stories told but just the same old ones. Black freeza is the one with the most hype. I’m having low expectations about it. It’s just freeza again. The arcs of Super Dragon Ball are more interesting if only they were in the main storyline

Toei can easily bring in new hype for dragon ball by confirming the anime is coming back and giving us a 30-second teaser where we can hear Moro's voice. Also, with the manga being monthly, therefore, making this retelling dragged out longer than it needed to. You can literally watch the movie 100 times before the manga finishes adapting the film

@WilliamV None of this was as you call it ignored. The animators on Broly were on different projects like One Piece and other Toei stuff. This is only the first time since Kai that we didn't have Norhito Summinto as compser. We don't really know the reason why, but there is nothing wrong with having a change for once.
It feels like we're back to the Resurrection F arc in Super. Pointlessly retelling a movie that came out months ago.
Xeno erasing Freeza maybe the only way he doesn't come back i feel.
Whilst I enjoyed the prequel Super Hero Arc for taking the film and doing something new with as opposed to the retelling that is pretty much following more so to a tee with the few additions not making up for it.
I wasn't even interested in Frieza coming back with a new form but I'd happily take that over straight retelling.
Biggest gripe is how lackluster it feels Toei is treating DB whilst simultaneously making it harder to express their enjoyment for the existing series without copyright claims or c&ds.
I’mma put it like this,the anime is the key to getting everyone back together . They have got to adapt the Moro arc or SOMETHING within the next 2 years or this franchise may plummet

I think the reason we are getting a retelling of the hero arc is because the staff is trying to figure out what stories they want to create after the super hero arc is over. Hopefully the new arc comes out by August or September because if they give us a hiatus that would be the biggest blow to us DBS fans

I really just want them to get over with the movie arc if they aren't gonna add up any lore because while it seems in a very slim chance but I know nothing is to happen. So I just want them to at this point just go ahead of the end of Z and or have stories of exploring other universes or to add up how Uub is to train. Otherwise as you said it's quite irritating that they are choosing to redo this movie in the Manga.

BOG was in the manga, actually, 5 chapters. Toyotaro made a separate manga of Resurrection F. Broly wasn't adapted because the movie came out right around the time the Moro arc started. So, the events of that movie were skipped.

I could appreciate a bit of the back story the prequel arc gave since it made for a fun re-watch when I got the Blu-ray. But I really wish they just gave us a panel for Super Hero and moved on since its not very interesting immediately after seeing the movie again last month. I'm kinda just reading the Super Hero chapters whenever I have nothing better to do instead of reading day 1 like usual.
The current state of Dragon Ball just goes to show Akira's passion is just no longer there. You would think a series like DB would be easy to keep up hype since everyone always get excited with more of the same. Just show some new scenes with Goku and Vegeta doing something or Piccolo training Pan again or Gohan actually training. It'd keep up hype casually but given that we are only being given pretty bland content as a result just goes to show Akira just doesn't have the same love for DB he had back in Z. His choice to come back just to clown on Evolution was a big mistake.
It was kind of telling when they made Super a mid-quel. As in a series that takes place in a series that already has a finished end point. And we've been stuck in the 10 year time skip funnily enough for about 10 years.

Yeah I've been bored with DBS since the Tournament of Power. Its just been a power-up schlog. Even though we have these new stories the writers somehow managed to leave so many stones unturned. I just can't find it within myself to get hyped for it anymore.

Not to diminish the discussion, but I've kind of felt this way ever since Battle of Gods dropped. Not because I think the stories they've been telling in Super are garbage or worthless like some people think, but that, Dragon Ball in and of itself, like the only consistent theme of the whole series, is that time will always pass whether you want it to or not. And this uneasy, bored, dragging-its-feet feeling everyone is overcome with as it pertains to Dragon Ball Super is just the culmination of late stage Super that was almost *Guaranteed* to occur simply because of the choice they made not to continue where the Manga left off. Super's just not going to feel as much like Dragon Ball as GT does. *Not* because one is expressly better than the other, but simply because for a story to feel like a Dragon Ball story, time has to play a major role in how we view it. Super's continuity has been expanding in real time for over 10 years. Battle of Gods dropped in 2013 and it's 2023 now. 10 full years, and yet we *Still* haven't gotten to The 28th Tenkaichi Budokai. Really sit and think about that.
The way the Manga has been conducted with doing movie retreads isn't doing anyone any favours, but we really should be passed the Manga by this point. It's been 10 years. In 1 week after Dragon Ball Z's anime aired its final episode, we had already passed 5 years and started telling the story of GT. Just like Toriyama said about GT, I feel the same is even *More* applicable to Super. It's a fun side story, but why aren't we continuing to go forward rather than staying stagnant? Say what you want about GT, it wasn't stagnant and it never dragged its feet. It always moved the continuity and the passage of time forward, something Super has just completely refused to do.

While I agree Dragonball is such a huge property that them ONLY really have a manga out right now and no other big multimedia stuff is a huge fail on their part, I can't say its bad right now because "the manga is boring". Not every story is for everyone and if Dragonball just kept going with that cliffhanger and then it leads into ANOTHER universe ending situation...then its just the same stuff over and over and over....back to back to back. You need to let each story breathe and get some space between the big events so I am okay with the Super Hero retelling....but yeah them not having some sort of new anime or SOMETHING that is visual in nature to drive the IP is sooooo dumb.
Next Arc After Super Hero
What do you guys think the next arc will be after Super Hero? We’re only a year or few months away from the End of Z Budokai tournament as Super Hero takes place in age 783 and the End of Z in 784. Do you all think Black Frieza happening in this small gap is plausible? Do you think Black Frieza will happen after End of Z? Another question, if Goku and Vegeta knows Frieza is out there and they went on to train back on Beerus’s planet, why didn’t they think to bring Broly in the first place? In the Super Hero movie, Beerus has only been sleep for 4 months only to find out Broly and his crew were on his planet. This means they weren’t there the whole time given that this arc is at least a year and some change after the Black Frieza encounter. What caused them to go get him only recently? If Black Frieza takes place after end of Z, wouldn’t they be abandoning their training to leave back to Earth? Also, if it’s before End of Z, wouldn’t they just have plot armor to beat him? Frieza has power that exceeds them tremendously. Also, this would make the arc less intense because we know who all survives a year later :(. Also, why wouldn’t Goku and Vegeta warn the gang on Earth? Frieza could attack them at any time.

Some people must understand that life goes on, even if the manga is ongoing and the anime is on “pause,” or hiatus.

There's just no hype for DB at all right now. Never did I think we'd have a 5 year hiatus after the ToP. Makes me wish they started DBS years later than they actually did. At this point I'd take a retelling of everything Super with fixed animation, story tweaks and old sound effects.

The problem with dragon ball these days is that there isn’t any effort going into it. The creator.. bless our lord and savior but I can tell he is burned out with dragon ball. And the people helping him make it. Don’t care about the franchise. Super had a few good moments but so much of it felt like hot dog watered down fan fiction

Question for Geekdom...Do you do Manga List where you group multiple chapters together. Comicsexplained does this and it's really helpful and I can listen through it at work. I got lost in the somewhere early in the Moro chapters and you have alot of non manga videos that make it a challenge to go back and get caught up.

I agree Toei needs to step up and release new content for Dragonball such as going past at the End of Z and focus on the new generation of Z fighters Goten, Trunks, Marron, Pan, Bra and Uub and going to Planet Sadala with Goku, Gohan, Goten, Pan, Vegeta ,Trunks and Broly going to Planet Sadala and Goku training Caulifa, Vegeta training Cabba and Broly training Kale.

The irony that I listened to this video while opening digimon cards and putting them in my card binder. The fact of the matter is the whole franchise is built on a manga that ended almost 30 years ago, so there is bound to be issues, and when you base your entire channel and livinghood off of a single property you're at the mercy of the ups and downs of the property's quality.

If I'm being honest, the only GOOD piece of content from the franchise that we've gotten over the last couple months was the DBZ: Tenkaichi 4 announcement. It's a MIRACLE that everyone at Toei even acknowledged the existence of a game franchise that's remained on the PlayStation 2 era for 16 years despite numerous fans keeping it alive across the modding community
Agree! Dragon ball has been in a creative rut for awhile. In my opinion they need to replace Toyotarou, they need some fresh innovative creater to take over the series. Oda has kept One Piece creative and exciting for 1100 straight chapters! Dragon ball needs a new Akira toriyama to take over the series. DBS has so much potential but they absolutely have no idea what they are doing.
It's a martial art series about fighting new stronger guys. There's not much else to do.

The way i see it, the story is stalling currently with the Super Hero arc. Other times, the manga just briefly went over RoF and Broly events and got to the next story. BoG manga arc says to watch the movie btw lmao. The manga is going scene by scene over Super Hero. It’s dragging and I feel that maybe the upcoming arcs will not be too good. They’re stalling the overall story with the manga just to try and come up with something good later on.
