Just getting started recording. Looking at GoPro fishing setups and stumbled across this little goldmine you've put together. Certainly a well-earned like. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you found it. I just added a hero 11 and am heading out to test it out while winter steelheading tomorrow. I recorded the set up process which I will release as soon as I get it edited. Let me know if you have any other questions. I’m also on Instagram @steelheadrage and Facebook at ‘Rage Fishing.’ Good luck!
Absolutely loved all 3 of your videos about filming. Thank you, Thank you Thank you. Not trying to monetize but was looking at what cameras and where to put on new boat to capture all the fun we are having with family and friends.
Great video, thanks very much. I haven't watched the other two yet, but I was wondering if you explain how you use two GPs for filming, one on a tripod and one on a chest mount ? Thanks very much. I've just started using my GP 10 with "hind sight" for my fly fishing vids and it seems to do a great job in capturing the take. Do you have any thoughts on this feature /
I don’t use the hindsight mode because it doesn’t help any with battery life. It may save storage, but I mostly use 256 GB sd’s now so I never worry about running out of space in a day’s fishing. At the end of the day, I can find the clips I want to save and delete the rest. You can use the ‘trim’ feature to do so on your computer. And as far as using 2 cameras, I usually run one on a small tripod GoPro and one on my chest pack. A great example of how this can turn out is one of my latest steelhead videos; Steelhead Scouting 2024 Part 2. I’ll include a link. It shows how you can keep the viewers interest by panning back and forth between the 2 cameras. ruclips.net/video/awe95eH2r2A/видео.htmlsi=yQ8OwXKTOWro1qz7
This is super helpful thank you! Been doing a ton of research on the best setup for backpacking into creeks. I tried running a tascam dr-10l with a hero 9 and although the quality is good, it just sucks trying to sync up audio. I think the media mod is the best way to go for now. Cheers! 🍻
Great content man. I am going to have to look into some of this stuff. I have been playing with the Rodes Wireless II mics. They are awesome and takes a little getting use to, but the audio has been pretty awesome compared to the GP mic. You can also use a lapel mic with them, but it isn't required and each unit holds about 7 hours of audio. They are a little hard on the wallet, but might be worth the money.
I bought a Gofish camera a few months ago. I’m still trying to learn how to use it correctly. They are specifically designed for that purpose, trolling or float fishing. You can see some examples on JD Richey’s RUclips channel ‘FishwithJD.’ I’ve seen GoPros being used for that purpose but I wouldn’t suggest it.
In normal conditions, a hero 9/10 battery will last about an hour. The 8’s are a little less, they are smaller. In cold weather their life is cut a little shorter.

Thanks, I’ll check them out!
Lots of good info there!
Thanks Pal, you’re the co-star of the show. 😁🎣
What would be your suggestion on recording by attaching the camera at the end of the fishing line ?

Do you use linear with horizon level or wide for fishing videos?
For my body worn camera, now the Hero 11, yes, linear with horizontal leveling. For my tripod or fixed cameras, wide angle.
How long does 1 battery last?
In normal conditions, a hero 9/10 battery will last about an hour. The 8’s are a little less, they are smaller. In cold weather their life is cut a little shorter.
