Just now seeing this! I have been trying to incorporate bass fishing into my channel recently and found this information very helpful. Thank you for the much needed advice my man!
The 10 has superior image stabilization IMO. I use it as a head cam (1080p 60fps), so that's important to me. Really smooths out the shot. Thanks for the info Nick!
Thanks for the tips! Just bought a Hero Black 11 and wanted to mount it on my boat. We do offshore fishing and we want to record the marlin’s bite, so my plan is to record all day. What resolution do you suggest? The camera would be placed in a shaded area and connected to a power source. We need to be able to zoom into the lure were the action happened. Thanks!
this was absolutely perfect. i have been looking at starting to film my fishing trips. Was looking at running a GoPro. So my question is...... If i purchase a Hero 11, and want to run it all day from the console mount of my boat, If i run it in 1080p and directly connected to a power source, do you think there will be any over heating issues? I live in SC and fish Hartwell. So i gets pretty hot here in mid summer.
i just got a hero 9 and ran across this vid, my hero 9 doesnt offer 2.7 at all in looping. My choices are 4k 30, 1440 (various fps) and 1080 (various fps). Iam i missing some thing? Thanks
I used to fish from a kayak and would have it mounted up above me from behind. The voice activation features were huge for me. I believe my newest camera is a hero 5. Do the newer versions have voice activation? I haven't looked into GoPro for a while. I would have it wired directly to a power bank so it could record all day. I would stop it every 10 minutes or so. Also right after catching a fish. I've got a few videos on my channel if anyone is bored or has some time to kill. :)
I have a 10 black run it in 1080p 60f and it randomly turns off after 15 minutes temps out side are in the 60s and I’ve tried it hooked up to a usb battery it was a cheap battery is this a Common problem?.I also use voice control setting on
That's why I'm still using Sony FDR X-3000 - all thay long mounted on my cap with powerbank attached - only 1080p in 60p but very reliable and optical stabilisation that actually works in the evenings - 6 years old cam...
I have the Hero 8. I never thought about painting it. I have mine set at 4k 30 fps. I resently just started using an external battery so it will not over heat but there are times when it shuts off to recover video. That said Nick great tips and advise thank you for making this video.
great idea for repainting. However the newer cameras can shoot in better quality and hold stronger in the the heat. The gopro 5 and 6 are great still hold their grounds on recording. Gopro 7 entry level for recording. Gorpo 8 big improvement overall holds up to the heat. Gopro 9 is a great camera. No problems yet to report. I film from a Kayak experience. Best thing to do with these cameras are shutoff all extra features that are not needed for a long day of fishing. turn down any brightness also keeps it cooler. Turn off Wifi to your phone also if the days is to hot. Man I should really cover this stuff on my content also. lol Tight lines Everyone.
Yeah shutting off all the extras for certain makes a big difference. I still find the 5 outperforming all of them on 100 degree days in constant looping with USB-C power at 2.7 60fps. It might also be in the software safety limit’s because the camera is very hot.
@@InformativeFisherman The 5 and 6 were great for hot outdoor situations. Unfortunately, so many of us are addicted to the much better video produced by the 8-9-10, that's it's really hard to go back.
It’s when the camera records the last 5 minutes over and over again. Example, if it takes you an hour to catch a fish then you press record right after you will only have that last 5 minutes of footage with the fish catch.
I still can't decide what to record in using the Hero 10. Kep changing it from 4k60 and 4k30. And 1080 30 and 60. The quality of the video on youtube is always rubbish which think means I have to change something when exporting from Davinci Resolve.
Forget looping, just get 256 or 512gb cards now less than $40 each. In Florida heat shooting Hero 10 and 11, 4k 120fps for my fishing videos the only way I can keep these cameras recording is with little 25mmx10mm USB fans blowing into the camera battery bay. Even then the 10 overheats when there is no wind and 95 and sunny. It restarts and will run for a while again.
I’m 13 and I really want to start a fishing RUclips channel but I just need the bare bones camera I don’t have a whole lot of income so I want something cheap
It doesn't really work. While it dissipates a certain amount of ambient heat from the body of the cam, it also blocks the vents. So, for heavy use, it's kind of a "the cure isn't any better than the disease" scenario.
@@FlyFishingChronicles do you think the metal cage could work using the go pro 11 as a dashcam? i ask because in my case, i think the metal will get hot with the sun
@@LuiSZipp Sure why not? When I´m fishing in summer I am in the sun all day long. You can also take off the side plate and take out the battery and just use a power bank/battery for even more ventilation.
Why the focus on looping? That will delete footage from the top of the SD if you have a small card. If you got a PB early in the morning and went all day with a small card, it would literally overwrite your best footage. I'm guessing you don't use Hindsight in the 9 and 10?
Loop does not record over previously captured footage you selected to record. Hindsight isn’t really adequate at 30 seconds for a mounted camera in my opinion for a mounted camera. It would need to be mounted to your chest of head or be hand held as you’re not entering the frame.
@@InformativeFisherman Okay, I now understand that looping only over-writes the top of the individual (current) file, not the entire card. Fair enough. I primarily kayak fish with a pair of 10s controlled via The Remote. I have yet to miss a hookset in 30sec Hindsight. The bigger issue for me is overheating, which would present in the exact same way when Looping. I often have to dumb down the cam to 1080/30 in order to not overheat (I ordinarily shoot on the kayaks in 2.7k/60, and it looks awesome). Have you noticed how TERRIBLE the 1080p codec is in the 10 compared to the 9? I don't think they even bothered to adapt the 1080p codec to the new GP2 processor. They seemingly just tossed it in there and never bothered to look at how bad the GP2 processes what it sees with that particular codec. I understand how they expect the average user to shoot their 2min clips in 2.7k, 4k, 5.3k... but this was a pretty huge oversight, that they have yet to address. I've got a vid on that coming this week, and the difference is pretty remarkable.
My boyfriends favorite hobby is fishing and he mentioned to me multiple times he really wants a GoPro. His sobriety anniversary is coming up and I realized this would be the perfect gift idea for him. Would you recommend automatically going for hero 5? Or any other recommendations for someone who would just start making videos for fishing? I am sold on the hero 5 but curious what other things you recommend @informativefisherman
You broke it down better than any video I’ve seen I appreciate you!
Awesome! Thank you!
Hey that's great advice! Thanks
Saving this video...im glad i found one thats specifically for fishing, it explained it well so i will refrence this often
Hi what software u using to get the “moving camera effect” ???
I use Power Director but all of them work .
I used to use GoPro studio and loved it but they stopped it and quik and it doesn’t do what I want to do, am using adobe rush now
Bro congratulations on your information tanks for posting your videos I’ll like them all tanks have a great day

Great information! I had some problems with overheating when I have it mounted on the kayak. Thank you for the information!
Nick now I understand why some of videos that I crop looks blurr. Especially when I film in the early mornings. This makes sense now. Thanks bro. 👍
Glad to help bro!
What exactly do you mean by "looping" mode? Thank you for the video!
Great info ... parked my 5 awhile ago but think I will dusted it off for the backend work. Thanks for the tips!
What fov do you use for a chest mount?
Great detailed information. Thank you 😎🤙💪💯
Do you think YT promoted 4k vids more than 1080p?
I got a yi 4k+ a few years ago and love it for my average usage

Hi, did you paint the gopro itself or protective case? Any specific paint you recommend? Thank you!
Just the case, outdoor furniture paint
Great tips. What are you using for audio? Are you using the GoPro Media mod case on the 10?
Nope the stock onboard microphone

Regarding over heating: You can also put the camera inside a Ulanzi metal cage. It will take some amount of heat away from the camera.
