I just bought a pre-owned GP 8 for one purpose, which is to try and document a few special MC rides while I still can. I had NO idea how complex these are. This tutorial is absolutely fantastic! I'd be willing to buy a quick settings guide with this info, which would save me from either taking numerous screenshots or attempting to keep notes. Neither of which is a realistic solution. At my age trying to remember this is not an option. Had I not seen this, it's quite likely this would have either eventually gone in the box with all the other cameras I got very little use of, or put for sale. I so regret not having this technology available for the few times the wife and I did some very risky ocean kayaking with 13' Feathercraft's with homemade sails. THANKS SO MUCH!

Excellent video. Thank You. Keep up the good work. I have a GoPro 11 that's mounted on my motorcycle. What video settings would you recommend? All highway riding and speeds up to 75mph with desert and mountain terrain. Thanks
Thank you. If you would like to edit and have maximum vertical and horizontal flexibility with your footage later on I recommend using the 8:7 full frame mode in 5.3K 30fps. If you don't need that much flexibility then I recommend doing the 5.3K resolution using the wide or ultrawide lens if you prefer more of the landscape around you. As for frame rate you could choose 60 fps if there is a chance you'll want to slow anything down. Otherwise you could use 24 or 30 fps.
Total Hero 10 newbie here. Love your videos and thanks for the great info. I'm a little confused on whether to use time lapse or night lapse to shoot mountain sunsets. Can you help me better understand which would be better? I tried night lapse with the settings you mentioned and it was not very good. @@GreatDayForAHike As a follow up to your recommendations I was able to get some phenomenal videos on a recent vacation. Thanks again for all you do the help us learn more about producing high quality videos.
Great video! I just bought a GoPro 12 and I love it but I have noticed that sometimes on certain skin tones things look a bit over sharpened and you can see a lot of blemishes on people’s skin, almost looks too sharp. If I’m just shooting scenery, everything looks gorgeous but when I’m shooting people or interviewing people, their skin looks a little sharp or even artifacts a bit. What do you suggest for better results? Sharpness to low? And for ISO max, is 400 outside ok? Thanks for the tips!!!
That’s a fun use case and the GoPro is a great camera for this. Two main things you’ll want to consider: 1. What frame rate do you want to share your video in? Many prefer the 60fps for action like this. 2. What lens do you want. Do you want super wide where the horizon appears to bend with Superview or do you want horizon leveling where the horizon stays consistent with the Linear + HL lens? Also, you may want some slow motion clips at times too. If you do I recommend 4K 120fps. Check out these tips for the slow motion if you decide to do this: ruclips.net/video/wPyn2SdDfZ8/видео.html
@@GreatDayForAHike Thank you for the reply...to answer your questions I see most people at 60FPS for fast action like a dirt bike so probably will do that. Also, I think the Superview really adds to the videos I see with bikes, etc. Just seems to look better when you take in a lot of the terrain. As for slow motion I might experiment with that but mostly I am a set it and forget it person and it is unlikely I will spend any significant time doing post editing other than cropping segments.
Great video, especially with the time lapse. Any suggestion on how to get the battery to last longer? Do you just buy a portable battery? New to filmmaking. Thanks
I recommend an ISO Min of 100 and an ISO Max of 800 to give you flexibility. The GoPro will only boost to the ISO Max of 800 if needed due to low lighting.
Yeah after watching your videos I upgraded from the GoPro 5to the 9 and now I’m just after getting the GoPro 10 now and I can’t wait to get it out and try it out because I love capturing videos of rivers thanks for sharing this great video and so easy tips to follow and help people get amazing photos and videos thanks you and hope you have a great week 🫶🏻🇮🇪🤝
Im a total beginner with action cams. Just starting off. I play racquetball and want go get good footage. What camera settings would be best for capturing this sport with such a fast small ball to track?
Thanks for the video, I have GO PRO Hero 10 and just can't make a movie longer than about10 minutes long, the camera just stops, and after that start to record another video. What adjustment do I have to do to make a movie at least one hour long in one piece?
Great question. This is actually by design. GoPro has designed videos to have a file size limit of 4GB. Once the file size reaches 4GB a new file is created where the prior one left off. This helps maximize file system compatibility and in the event of corruption helps ensure you don’t lose all of your footage. This is referred to as chaptering.
Yes. I personally love 60FPS combined with a 1/240 shutter speed and an Auto ISO if you’re using ND filters. That gives that nice FPV feel while still having plenty of motion blur. If you’re not using ND filters just do 60FPS with an Auto shutter speed and Auto ISO.
@@GreatDayForAHike Yeah I just ran a side by side comparison after flying around with two different profiles. 60FPS is definitely better for my use. I don't use ND filters, any recommendations?
@0Ciju0 if you’re looking for ND filters, I use the ones from Freewell and like them as the best product for the best price. If you don’t want to use ND filters then 60FPS with an Auto Shutter speed should work well.
Thank you for your great video. I have one question for you. I have Nikon D7100 camera to take pictures and to do video with gimbal DJI Ronen RS 2 that I have. Now I'm thinking and to buy GOPRO Hero 10. this design is easier to use in cities and fast moving with Gimbals Ronin SR 2. My question is if it is a bad choice to buy GoPro 10 action camera and to be able to use for Gimbal Ronin SR2, maybe is this Hohem iSteady Pro 4 is better choice. Than you for help. Alex
Great question. The RS 2 is a great gimbal. I’m thinking the GoPro could be too light for that gimbal and may tend to bounce around a bit too much but it could be worth trying the GoPro on it first to see how it does. If it doesn’t work out then I’d recommend checking out either the iSteady Pro 4 or the Inkee Falcon Plus.
Really nice video, it helped me understand this camera what all these settings mean! But what do you advise for recording fireworks during the day and night?
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am lucky enough to have the Hero Black 11 but not yet had a chance to get out there and use it. I learnt a lot from this, especially the white balance settings for dusk and dawn. Also EV settings were useful. (I’m mainly a street photographer so this is a big transition for me but I’m keen to embrace the GoPro family. Thanks again for the time you put into this.
Hello Master, I need your advice again. I recorded a video of a garden that was about 200 meters away from me, but when I played the video on a widescreen TV, the image looked good, but the garden seemed to be as far away as 500 meters. Do you know why? I don't like the fisheye effect, so I've set it to Linear. My settings are HDR - Linear - 4K - FPS 60 - Depth 10 - Bitrate High - White balance Auto.🤥
Thanks for another awesome tutorial! My photo's are all in 4:3 aspect even though the photo setting displays Wide on my Hero10 LCD. In Photo Settings it shows Wide but, its not highlighted. Also, tapping on it in settings I can't get any other setting options. Could you please tell me what I'm missing? I would sincerely appreciate it. As always, Thank You for all your awesome tutorials!! Great job! 👍
Thanks! The photo will by default be in the 4:3 aspect ratio (or in the case of the Hero 11, the 8:7 aspect ratio). This is because GoPro designed the photo mode to use the entire sensor. If you want to crop it later on you can easily do so on your computer or phone. Hope this helps!
@@GreatDayForAHike Thank you! With GoPro giving you the option of Wide, I couldn't figure out what the problem was. A little bit of a hassle to get the wide aspect but, it will give you some adjustment in post transitioning it. I have FCPX and ON1 Photo therefore, it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks again, appreciate all your hard work you put into your tutorials!! 👍
Your videos are a great help. I’m a new/first time go pro user with hero 11. What are your recommendations for no edit for recording hiking/ backpacking?
Thank you for your feedback. I did a video specific for no edit settings on the Hero 11 as well. I would recommend 4K24 or 4K30 for no edit hiking/backpacking footage. If you do want to slow anything down then 4K60 or 4K120 is a good idea for those short clips.
@@GreatDayForAHike thanks I have this video saved in a go pro album. You don’t think there’s any benefit in 5.3 k? I’m going to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain and trying to determine the best resolution and lens to capture 40 plus days of trekking

Thank you. That is correct. I use an external power bank. This one from Anker is my favorite one to use with GoPros: amzn.to/3FnGb0k

What ISO settings should I use in sunny weather when I move from an open space into a forest where there is less light?
I recommend an ISO Min of 100 and an ISO Max of 800 to give you flexibility. The GoPro will only boost to the ISO Max of 800 if needed due to low lighting.
@rosta2899 Make sure you have the Pro/High Performance modes enabled in order to ensure you have access to all settings.
@@GreatDayForAHike Thanks for the information, I have it turned on but still can't change the ISO setting.
@@GreatDayForAHike I already know where the problem is; when setting the option for 4K and HDR, it is not possible to set the ISO
@rosta2899 Ah yes, HDR mode does not allow for the ISO to be changed.
I have yet to find a video that deals with scientific or close-up with the Gopro? Any advise.
Is it the same setting during gloomy/cloudy days or days with less sun?
Yes, these settings will work for those days as well.

Just the video I was looking for. Informative and concise. Thank you 😊

Hi there. Thanks for the video. Quick question, if Im flying FPV drones would 60FPS be better than the slower 30/24 FPS?
@@GreatDayForAHike Brilliant, cheers!
Best informative video, thank you!
Thank you for your feedback!
Great video! Very helpful and well presented information!
Thank you!
You’re welcome and I really appreciate your feedback. I hope your enjoy your new GoPro!
Wonderful video. Configured my go pro 10 using the settings specified. Appreciate all the detailed information. Thanks a lot

And I am not very savvy with some electronics so this video was awesome and a ton of info and help to me. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Sir im using GPH 11 , can i apply the
Settings you set on this video or are you
Still gonna post another video for best settings for GPH11
Yes, check out this video for the GPH11: ruclips.net/video/5rck0XpGdp4/видео.html
You’re welcome!

5.3K is even better as long as you want to downscale to 4K when you export for a little extra resolution boost.
@@GreatDayForAHike that’s over my head at this point. I’m hoping what ever software I decide on will do that automatically. Maybe I’ll just use 4k
Thanks boss..
