I appreciate your efforts. I’m going with the OA4 because of audio capabilities. Can’t tell a good story without good audio. DJI Mic 2 and OA4 is a seriously solid vlogging combo. Pocket 3 requires too much care when handling it.
I've been using DJi drones for a while and I just love them, specially the color of the mavic 3. I've just purchased the osmo 4 Action as follow up of our gorpo 5
I've got 2 GoPro (10 and 11) as well as 2 DJI OSMO Actions (3 and 4). Feedback after extensive testing over more than a year; 1) The GoPro's are glitchy with random errors and crashes / The DJI Action's have never failed me. 2) The battery life on the DJI's are WAY better that the GoPro's on the same recording settings. 3) The colour on the GoPro's seem better (warmer), but the processing of light when moving is better on the DJI's. 4) DJI does not have Google a secure Playstore app, requiring the installation of an unsigned app from a Chinese company (Hell No). As a result I have stopped buying GoPro's, and as they fail / get broken, I am replacing them with DJI Action Cameras using 3rd party editing software without using DJI's insecure App. Way cheaper, better video quality and they last longer.
Thanks brother 1 year ago I bought my go 11 black she over heated easily and she gave up on my after barely using it. pro and she failed me. DJI is new try but the app is not as friendly. Go pro storage app is good. DJI app is not good and do they offer storage like go pro.
@@bikesbeersbeatsDamn that's crazy. I own a GoPro 9 black (Had it for 3 years now) and it's always freezing up, shuts down randomly as I'm recording and just does whatever it wants. So this year I'm switching up for a Dji action 4
I have the GoPro hero 11 and ever since I got the DJI action 4, I have never gone back to the GoPro. I should have gone DJI from the start. I recently purchased the osmo pocket 3 and that camera blew my mind away
Damn it. I came here expecting to confirm that I want the DJI, everyone says it's better, but in every video at the beginning I preferred the look of the GoPro 🤦♂️😂
The GoPro over saturates and bumps the contrast a little compared to the DJI, even in log mode. That makes it look "better" when outdoors. Well that and the image quality is actually a little better in well lit scenarios hahah.
Awesome video. Thank you. I have just recently purchased the Action 4. Great little camera. Your reviews of them both were very imformative and will help lots of people out in their decision making for these cameras.
What I have noticed: The image quality of the GoPro always looks like a cartoon filter in 100%... and this has been the case for several models up to the 12 series. Not even 27 MP are of any use. Only RAW is really usable here and these files always have to be converted to JPG first. What do the DJI photos look like at 100%?
Thanks for this great video. If I may provide some constructive feedback: I sometimes lost track of things because you said "The GoPro" or "The Action 4" , and the first is the brand name sans the model name, and the second is the model name sans the other brand name, while both are Action cameras... Maybe it's just me but I found it confusing sometimes. No big deal, but it's objectively inconsistent at least...
Hi buddy, thanks for this detailed video, actually first time I am going to have a action camera and I want it for cycling. So which one having good stabilization.
i might not be using 4k or above, probly just 2.7k is good enough for me, so within this category, which should i choose? is the image quality ok in those categories?
Do you have any problem with DJI ACT4 when wearing sunglasses ? My unit it really hard to see with sunglasses on. ( I do have GP11 I never have problem with screen )
DJI as a company has always made premium products. Their drones are a prime example. I just wanted to be sure with this video to still stay clear of the GoPro. And that was very insightful!
for me most important aspect was video and with go pro 12 it gave up on the recording when i reached places where temp was 44degree celsius but with action 4 it recorded flawlessly .no any corruption in recorded data or anything. it was simply awesome and that magnetic mount , oh man thats some awesome facillity to have and that three battery pack that comes with adventure combo simply the best. from my experience i think i will lean on dji osmo action 4 more than gopro 12.
Cool video, thanks for sharing. I can tell that you put a lot of work and effort into this. I have the Hero 11 but it doesn’t get used much at all. My OA4 is definitely my go to action camera now, for pretty much much all the reasons you mentioned. I have also been using my Pocket 3 quite a bit as well. The new DJI Mic 2 integration with the Acrion 4 and Pocket 3 is simply genius! Even my Sony cameras have been sitting idle for a while now because of how easy it is to use the DJI cameras.
Fantastic review. Let me add little more. I trashed my gopro 11. And bought dji action 4. For Go gopro Media mode 80$, max lense 80$, bettery suck( you've to buy aditional battery hub to charge the battery which is 40$) and heavy but with DJI you get almost everything what you need. W for action 4. Fuck gopro
Thanks for the amazing comparison. I have used GoPro Hero 10 and it suddenly decided to stop powering on few weeks back and won't turn on after that. Well, anyways I was searching for my next action camera and DJI osmo action 4 seems to be the deal. Shitty videos in low light, overheating issues, pathetic battery life are the major dealbreakers for me in GoPro's case. Never going back to that unless GoPro decides to improve the product. GoPro Hero 12 too is not a worthy opponent for Osmo Action 4. Thanks for this video man! 🙌
Excellent video. I produce hundreds of videos, so I understand how much time it takes. I've recently upgraded my GoPro to the 12 Black and really disappointed that it doesn't offer telemetry overlays as in previous models.
This video changed my opinion about the unbeatable Gopro. I have the Gopro 11, and instead of buying the 12, I will choose to buy the Osmo Action4. I'm going to keep the Gopro 11 too, due to the many accessories I have. I can use them on the Osmo Action 4, just with an adapter. Excellent video. My congratulations on the quality.
Nice review. I just got the Action 4 - coming from a Hero 5... - and I like it so far. I'm a little disappointed though because I just discovered that you can't set the shutter speed in photo mode and there is no burst photo mode. Honestly, I don't use those features much (if at all) but it's kind of irksome that they are not there. As you say, maybe they can add via an update.
I'm think you can do the shutter speed, I think I was messing with it a while back, remember it being really out the way and difficult though. I'll double check and comment back soon.
For me Action 4 has also some minor disadvantages: - magnet mounting rises significantly a center of gravity, -there is no 3.5 mm microphone input, - no cold shoe option, - nd filters are very bulky - seems fragile not perfect for action shots, usb-c doors are not removable - dingling with usb-c - 3.5 mm adapters, -no qr code communication (labs), -no dji dedicated gyro program (reel steady).
The free Gyroflow program works perfectly with the Action 4, and 2 for gyro stabilization just like ReelSteady. It is, again, free. It even has a plugin for DaVinci Resolve. Example: ruclips.net/video/XcwP5Df8JUc/видео.htmlsi=g-mUzgj1wS_ki4sQ
Gyroflow works better than Reelsteady, automatically with the Action 4. It is free, and also available as a plug in for daVinci Resolve, so no two step. Again, it is free!
Although I consume different products from both brands I have to say GOPRO keeps it's value, when you want to resell them people will pay more money for a used Gopro Camera than Osmo
Well.. could also add in the fact that on gopro to use the editing program need subscription.. that is 50€ a yest. On dji its free. On gopro subscription you can get a replacement gopro for 99€ if you brake it. 2x a year. On dji you pay 35€ for 2 year dji care refrech plan.. so you can get a replacement camera for 19€! 2x a year. Also gopro customerservice has been a mess.. the have lost stuff when have ordered. They even forgot to pack my ordered gp 12.. had to conyact them 7 times untill 1,5month later they send me one.. Dji has awesome service. You get fast service and when brake anything in care refrexh program they ship you it the sameday you contact and takes max 3days till you get it.. is it a drone or camera. Does not matter, and even call you to check of everything was ok. I had been using gopro since 2012 with hero 2, 4 8 10 and ordered 12 that i sent back.. yesterday ordered 2nd action 4. Cos want more view angles same time. And tomorrow will get the mice 2 when it comes out. Dji is just a awesome company with good service and quality
I bought the Osmo Action about 5 years ago then recently the Action 4 because of its compatibility with the Mic 2 which I also bought. I'm pleased that it seems I made the right choice, though as you indicate either would be fine. I opted for the adventure version which is excellent value with the extra batteries etc.
My GoPro hero 12 stopped turning on after its 1st charge. Turns out my battery was faulty. Ruined my outing since I wasn’t able to use it and took time to figure out what the issue was. Not a good look for GoPro
Great review. I’m using slightly older cameras. I first purchased a GoPro Hero Black 7 back in 2019 for a holiday I was doing. Because of the lock ups, I lost a lot of footage. I then bought the Hero Black 8 and my current GoPro is the Hero 10. The Hero 11 didn’t make we want to upgrade and I purchased the Action 3 2 weeks before they released the Action 4 as I was heading over seas and wanted to try the DJI camera. I’ve since shelved the GoPro in preference for the Action 3. Here’s the top reasons for me. 1) Reliability. I’ve lost footage with every GoPro. I’ve lost nothing with the DJI. 2) UI & Responsiveness of the touch screen. 3) Mounting System 4) Battery life and charging. I bought the adventure kit but honestly, if you’ve got a power bank with you, you can charge the battery in downtime faster than you can deplete them. 5) APP. I use an iPad mini for video editing while I’m on the road. Downloading footage into my camera roll is a whole lot easier with the DJI than the GoPro and it’s a whole lot more intelligent. I’ll definitely buy the Action 5 when it’s released.
Been using the osmo 4 for couple months. The Mimo app is the worst of the worst. I got a brand new poco x6 pro 18gb ram 512gb and this stupid app does not even work. Quality wise i don't find it sharp enough when i export.
This is horrible. I started with gopro, experienced overheating and lots of lost footage. Then I changed to insta360, which is overall a lot better than gopro, but they have a few quite annoying quirks in the details.... and now I'm researching DJI just after I got a drone from them and they seem to be the total underdog by having great cameras with features that target real life usage much more than Insta360.... so I guess I'll be the one that bought all the cameras. The question is... will I find an even better suited camera package after I bought the DJI? Or can I finally be happy and start shooting? :P :-P
I have been using a go pro for a vlog style camera for our RV channel, for over 4 years. GP 11 with media mod, with a rode micro with a dead cat. I have spent the last month, testing the DJI, but using the mic 2 linked for audio. Completely different workflow, but the DJI has much better audio with the mic 2 for vlogging. It’s much more compact compared to gp, not having an external mic, I use the small rig cage for the DJI, easy to clip the mic on the cage when i want to use the camera like when i had the dead cat on the gp. For some reason, when comparing file size, the DJI are bigger files even in high efficiency mode. I have tried using the DJI external audio dongle, so i can use it with my rode micro dead cat mic, and it works but its easy to bump it an disconnect the usb c connection. The gp media mod is really nice for somebody that vlogs. I did NT know abou the easy mode thing, but i only have an 11 not a 12. I NEVER use the audio from any action cam they suck, audio on YT is so important, more than good video. The audio with my mic 2 is awesome and A4 is awesome. I wish there was a way to connect two mics to the camera at one time, right now you can only connect one mic at a time, my wife and I vlog together and would love to connect two mics, i have to use the mic 2 receiver to do this, not a big deal but it would be nice if it could do it in camera. One category i would love to see is usability, actually shooting, saving files, charging, editing, mounts, selfie sticks, tripods, using lights, and audio, syncing audio in post, etc. Larry
Had GoPro 3 years for my RUclips channel . Had my dji mini drone same time crashed so many times ,held together by superglue now ,just got my action 4 let’s hope it lasts as long debs xx
You definitely did not seem impartial. It made it really difficult to discern your bias and actual improvements. You really came across as a DJI fanboy. No matter what the results reflected, you were going to rationalized why the Action 4 was better. I was sold on the Action 4, but after watching these videos all day, the GoPro appears to be the better camera. Your point of taking stills from the video was massive. That is something I've always wanted to do, but in the past, the quality wasn't there. I still can't decide. I'm off to find the video that makes the difference apparent in my language. We were almost in sync. Just a slightly different accent that threw off the 'Vulcan brain meld.' Seriously, good video and comparison. I'm just not 'sold' yet on one, or the other. Thank you 📸
Awesome review. Many thanks. For me the low light capabilities of the Action 4 are the decision makers, although I appreciate the HDR-video and the hyperlapse/timelapse of the GoPro Hero 12, too.
I have the Action 3 and love it. I've had it since Feb 2023 and have never had an issue. I've owned 4 GoPros over the years, the last one being the 10 and had issues with all of them.
Nice and detailed review. Although 99% of the world prefers the Action 4, I would opt for the GP12; it may have lost in your test, but I prefer the colors it produces, plus the extras.
How about glitchiness or losing footage, I've been excited looking at videos to get my first action cam but am seeing alot of people m3ntion issues with glitcheness or having to turn off and back on go pro but maybe this is with older versions? Do you fac5ory reset after doing firmware updates?
@@pinkfiffty3094 Remember that GoPro bashing is a trend nowadays especially on RUclips with channels like this one that either get paid by dji or receive free products that cost up to $4k while on the same time have to buy the GoPros because the brand only send free models to their creator's, so there's barely any fair comparison because 99% of "testers" are in a way or another paid by dji. And as for reliability it always depends on luck and all but for me I had a GP9 that stayed over 2 days 28ft deep in a 55°F river and the camera restarted like nothing happened straight out of the water and no footage was missing. Before that a GP9 got ran over by a car multiple times (road rage) and still manage to recover all of the video that was being recorded until it was ran over (replaced for free thanks to the GoPro subscription). Since then I've been using the GP10 since it came out and I never lost footage, never froze, while used for skiing up to 12'000ft and -12°F or recording nightlapse in 14°F night or even in over 100°F summer days. I use it for what it's meant like recording slowmo shots (2.7K240 is amazing) or daylight action in 5K and that's it, for low light my iPhone is better than any action cam on the market so idc. In the end real question is do you really need an action cam or isn't it better to save the money and buy a better phone like a Pro iPhone? Because the dji or even insta360 ace are better than the GoPros in situations where you can use a phone that will give you the best footage, but are weaker when the phone doesn't deliver like slowmo, so take it into consideration.

Hi Julian, have you ever considered a 360 cam like the Insta360 X3? I've had a X2 and find the reframing options really great. The only problem is that lenses are so vulnerable for scratches. I broke mine on gravelrides. I saw in your vid that you can film yourself with the osmo and removable selfiestick in post. I think I'll look into that before buying a new 360 cam. Greetz Ab
I'm definitely going to give it a try. Waiting for @insta360 to bring out the X4. Only thing that's putting me off is the extra steps of editing the 360 footage before bringing it into DaVinci Resolve. Hoping they can stream line a bit.
Well yes the extra steps are time consuming but the fact that you can do your framing afterwords is great. Maybe you give up on quality a bit but I don't mind. @@juliangoulding
Great review . . .❤ Have X3, DJI OA4, Air 3 (drone) GP. Overall prefer DJI. Post edit DJI color using DaVinci resolve is great. X3 color is terrible. . . Have used X3 for almost 1 yr. and very unhappy with picture quality. Insta360 is selling hype
Really wishing I'd gone DJI instead of GoPro. I shot an entire outing the other day. Video because this is a video camera. Well, the first half was all photos of me getting set up. The second half was video recordings of me putting the camera away. There should have been twice as many shots but you can't turn this thing off. Press power once, it switches mode. Repeat: press POWER once... Hold power, maybe it shuts down, maybe it doesn't. "Just look at the screen!" Yeah, if you have your screen brightness up enough that you can actually see it (while it's mounted out of reach because this is an action camera) then it over heats in minutes and shuts down. I don't know if the Osmo VIDEO cam records VIDEO or if it, too, likes to toggle to other modes that you would never use because it is a VIDEO camera but one thing I do know is I'm not buying another dang GoPro.
Hello. I want to live stream while fishing by sharing the internet from my phone. As far as I know, Gopro 12 can also record to SD card while live streaming. Do Insta360 Ace pro, DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and DJI Osmo Action 4 have the same feature? Which one do you recommend for live streaming?
Having watched alot of OA4 vs GP12 reviews (mostly comparing the two when diving using their respective underwater housings). Most seem to point out that the OA4 is less prone to overheat, and also produce the most realistic colors. I don't think it was mentioned in your video, but OA4 has a dedicated sensor, which is very apparent underwater where colors shift with depth, but also useful above the surface. From DJIs website: “The color temperature sensor of Osmo Action 4 is built into the letter “O” of the logo on the front of the camera. Do not cover it during use. With the color temperature sensor, Osmo Action 4 delivers outstanding color temperature performance even in scenarios with complex lighting, such as diving. The sensor corrects color temperature when filming underwater and reduces color temperature flicker due to the change of shooting angle. It can also detect and reduce light flickering more accurately.”
WOW, nice review. I’m pretty invested in DJI gear and still use my original Osmo Action Cameras. Where DJI disappointed me was in the implementation of the two horizontal leveling modes. They carried over a flaw from the Action 3 that under certain engine vibration scenarios, the gyroscopes lose the ability to maintain a level horizon. I love the action 4 but it’s been frustrating dealing with DJI on issue as they prefer to deny than to be honest. I tried the Hero 12, and even with its flaws, I prefer the action 4. Unfortunately I have to use a GoPro for certain shoots as the horizon leveling is more stable on motor powered vehicles

What a good review 11/10
Nice one boet 😊
Hi julian
Everyone knows the Gopro is better.
🤯
super
And the winner is......Insta360 - Ace Pro, bravo
Best review I've seen, covers everything I needed to know. Ordered my Dji. Thank you for your time in making this.
Thanks mate! Was alot of work haha
Great review... buying DJI from now on till GoPro starts to hear their audience...
DJI as a company has always made premium products. Their drones are a prime example. I just wanted to be sure with this video to still stay clear of the GoPro. And that was very insightful!
I love action 4 easy to use and audio internal nice
Dont hold your breath lol
I bought the hero 12 2 weeks ago. Haven't opened it yet and I'm going to return it today lmfao
Ditto
for me most important aspect was video and with go pro 12 it gave up on the recording when i reached places where temp was 44degree celsius but with action 4 it recorded flawlessly .no any corruption in recorded data or anything. it was simply awesome and that magnetic mount , oh man thats some awesome facillity to have and that three battery pack that comes with adventure combo simply the best. from my experience i think i will lean on dji osmo action 4 more than gopro 12.
Great review, bought an action 4 and your work has been very helpful showing me the features needed to go out and shoot, greetings from Argentina
i stopped at @0:10 .. intro says it all. . no need to watch 😂
Thanks for the comment. Yeah it's crazy how good it is. I just bought the mic 2 and have been testing it out this week. It's insane how well it works.
I liked B better in basically every shot
Excellent video. I produce hundreds of videos, so I understand how much time it takes. I've recently upgraded my GoPro to the 12 Black and really disappointed that it doesn't offer telemetry overlays as in previous models.
Side by side video quality alone on my LG OLED TV the hero looks better has the colors more vibrant and the contrast is deeper
My congratulations on the quality.
you can also buy ulanzi 3234 mount and you will have gopro feets, 1/4 screw, dji magnetic mounth and you can still use it with underwater case :D
@@xXadambXxYes, I have ulanzi accessories
And I finally bought the insta360 Ace Pro.
Amazing camera
Nice review. I just got the Action 4 - coming from a Hero 5... - and I like it so far. I'm a little disappointed though because I just discovered that you can't set the shutter speed in photo mode and there is no burst photo mode. Honestly, I don't use those features much (if at all) but it's kind of irksome that they are not there. As you say, maybe they can add via an update.
I'm think you can do the shutter speed, I think I was messing with it a while back, remember it being really out the way and difficult though. I'll double check and comment back soon.
@@juliangoulding You are right! I found it by switching to M mode under the Exposure setting. Thanks!
The Gopro GPS telemetry is terrible. I have the 9. Overheats easily, freezes, doesn't work half the time. I hate it.
Thanks for making this very comprehensive video, very helpful and glad that I came across this while deciding which to buy :)
Although I consume different products from both brands I have to say GOPRO keeps it's value, when you want to resell them people will pay more money for a used Gopro Camera than Osmo
This is a good point. I'll probably sell that GP for close to what I bought it for.
Well.. could also add in the fact that on gopro to use the editing program need subscription.. that is 50€ a yest.
I waited til the end to find out which one suffers less wind noise but ... nothing, ??? oh well :/ Try somewhere else I suppose.
My GoPro hero 12 stopped turning on after its 1st charge. Turns out my battery was faulty. Ruined my outing since I wasn’t able to use it and took time to figure out what the issue was.
Not a good look for GoPro
I picked A and to my surprise well I need not say more lol ... Going to start looking for a Dji I think :)
3) Mounting System
4) Battery life and charging.
Dji Action 4 is great. the only problem I have is that there's no way to get hdmi out from it. that sucks..
Your review helped me a lot to clear my confusion. I have used GoPro Hero 7 and 10 before, but now I'm going for Dji this time ❤
I have been using a go pro for a vlog style camera for our RV channel, for over 4 years. Larry
I just purchased the dji action 4 adventure pack. I will start using it on Friday
Had GoPro 3 years for my RUclips channel . Had my dji mini drone same time crashed so many times ,held together by superglue now ,just got my action 4 let’s hope it lasts as long debs xx
this is one of the best reviews, mate!
Thank you 📸
DJI Action 4 now $299 or $239 Refurbished on the DJI store. This made it a no brainier for me. Great video
Just ordered mine! :)
I just got the adventure bundle for $399 with 3 batteries, the charging case and dji extension rod. Cant wait to try it out snowboarding next week!
excellent video. thanks for your time and effort.
I got the hero12 for Xmas so I guess I'll settle 😂
Great in depth video...helped me make my choice.
Osmo is superior underwater.
Awesome review. Many thanks. For me the low light capabilities of the Action 4 are the decision makers, although I appreciate the HDR-video and the hyperlapse/timelapse of the GoPro Hero 12, too.
Thank you for your effort. You helped me make decision. DJI.
A, in fact I just purchased one,
Thanks for a great review, you answered very detailed questions that was helpful buying decision.
Good review, had to like it for the effort you put in.
Thanks for the effort for the video!
GoPro makes complete dogshit
Brilliantly awesome video and detailed info...I'm going for Action 4 now as I'm real life, real image person, not much filters.
Man the Gopro over sharpens (unsharp mask). You can really see this when you're talking about the audio outside.
Yeah when I first saw it I was shocked. My skin looks so bad haha
I have the Action 3 and love it. I've had it since Feb 2023 and have never had an issue. I've owned 4 GoPros over the years, the last one being the 10 and had issues with all of them.
Have to say that image-wise the a4 wins when I see your footage, great review!

Great review . . .❤
Have X3, DJI OA4, Air 3 (drone) GP.
From DJIs website:
“The color temperature sensor of Osmo Action 4 is built into the letter “O” of the logo on the front of the camera.
I thought the gopro looked better in the unlabeled examples. i own the hero12 and osmo action 4
