The one and only difference that matters to me is the software stability. I started my youtube channel with a gopro but I lost tons and tons of footage as the cameras kept crashing and needing a battery reboot. I've used DJI cameras almost 2 years now and I have NEVER lost s single clip with any of my DJI actioncams or the DJI pocket 3. The stability is incredible and I put my money towards reliability every time.
I can only back up what you’re saying mate. Not a single loss or hiccup since I’ve been on team DJI. They took a little while to sort out the audio for in helmet, but now it’s solid as far as I’m concerned. I also only need 3 batteries and the charging case for an entire days filming. Before it was always a challenge to get by with 5 batteries and TWO Gopro charging docks. It’s a no brainer for me.
@@AndyManCam True. I have a video of me testing the early wireless mic 2 firmware and it was really bad with the early software but now I use it in all my motovlogs without any issues. Only think I would hope for DJI OA 5 is the same dual mic support that the pocket 3 has.
@PatchedBandit Dual Mic support would be great. Apparently Gopro has this already, but sadly i couldn’t get the DJI mic to work with it at all. Didn’t bother with the Airpods connectivity as it’s not anything I’d ever try in a motorbike helmet! 😆
@@AndyManCam The gopro bluetooth support is not even on the same planet as the DJI mic in quality. Anyone can connect a headset to a phone and record video but it's absolutely not going to get you the same quality. It's not even right to compare these two technologies Gopro absolutely has nothing like the DJI mic system.
Crazy really, I’m sure the hardware is there in the Gopro. Maybe they’re holding off until they have their own wireless mic product. Would be typical Gopro to restrict connectivity to their own brand.
Really enjoyed the entertaining, educational balance you brought to this video, but I particularly enjoyed a non-American accent, clear enunciation of decent grown up English. @mattmutane5502 I completely understand! Action 4 users are the vegans of the motovlogging world! Spreading the gospel to all those who (don’t) need to know! 😆
Superb comparison! I’ve had the same GoPro freezing issues after charging and it seems to have a a falling out with the media mod too. I think it’s time to jump ship to the DJI. The easy of use and audio setup is a massive win!
That’s a real shame, but then it would be naive to imagine i was the only one! It’s a shame they’re still missing with software problems. Especially as they basically invented the whole action cam thing!! Ease of use with DJI has been an undeniable win for me. Even when the image quality of the Action 3 was worse than the Hero 8, it was still an easy choice to make for the sake of reliability.
Great Review 👍 much better POV than 360 cam. We have Action 4 to capture off road trail rides. Noticed you choose 4k / 25 fps but mostly ride on road vs. extreme trails. We use 2.7k / 60 fps in Pro D-log settings. There was a conversation on DJI forum stating 4k is internally upscale from 2.7 to 4k. One reason we use 60 fps is better frame grabs for stills. Can ad motion blur in post but cannot convert it to sharp image. Thank you, enjoyed riding along. PS: We have BMW R1200gs
I almost always use 2.7k aswell. Best balance of quality and size. Plus, as you mention, it’s a true 2.7k, rather than the crop for stabilization. I‘d very much like to do more offroad with the Aprilia but it’s sadly not very easy here in northern Germany.
What a great video. My hero 7 freezes all the time and I gave up filming. Was looking at the hero 10 but do you think the action 3 is better? Did you do a video on the action 3?
Might just be my opinion but the footage looked better on the DJi I think. I’m currently recording on an iPhone 13 pro max and Go Pro Hero 7 so I think I’m going to invest in a DJi. Thanks Andy
Fantastic video Andy 👍🏻 that is some serious time consuming video and editing thanks very much 👍🏻 I only this week jumped ship over to DJI Action 4, after problems with my Hero 10 not responding , and becoming unreliable🤦♂️ I am still getting to grips with the Action4 but mainly on the audio as I have bought the wireless Mic2 and just trying to find the sweet spot in the helmet 👍🏻 ride safe buddy and have fun 🏍️💨💨💨👍🏻
🙋 The reliability was a real problem with my Hero 5/6/7. With the 8 i actually never had a corrupted video or a freeze, just trashed audio thanks to the rubbish mic adapter. Although the Hero 12 seemed solid, the weird charging quirk gave me cause for concern. Thankyaverrimuch 😘
Thanks Johan! The transmitter is about the size of a matchbox. It is inside the helmet. The mic comes with a little magnetic tile, like a scrabble piece, which is tucked inside the cheekpad of my helmet so that the transmitter is held on by the magnet.
Great comparison Andy that was obviously a lot of work! I tried the Action 4 but (without boring you) had trouble with the way it connects to the DJI Mic 2 which I've stuffed into my crash helmet :) So I'm still using a Hero 10 and Media Mod on my helmet, connected to a Purple Panda Mic. That's the backup audio really because I'm also using the Mic 2 and it's internal 32-Bit float recording which is very impressive! I now record in 4k 4:3 which allows some flexibility to reframe the footage in post. I'd never upload a 1080p motovlog video to RUclips as their compression ruins the footage when it comes to faster motion. 4K is best IMO, for future proofing against whatever tricks YT may pull in the future reduce their video streaming costs... 1080p videos used to look fine in YT till a few years ago!
Thanks Rikky. Yeah you’ve got to go with whatever works for your needs. We’re all slightly different in that respect, so what works perfectly for me won’t fit the next guy. Glad you’ve got a setup that’s working though 👍🏻
Cracking video Andy! That must have taken ages to produce man. I’ll recommend my subscribers watch this vid and it will save me making one. 🤗 Hope you’re keeping well. Cheers.
Thank you kindly Dave 🙏🏻 Anything i can do to lighten your workload 😜 I’m well thanks. Loving the Aprilia Tuareg, but seeing as you’ve got a 660 based machine too, i don’t need to preach to the choir! Hope you’re also well mate.
I have the Action 3 on the bars, the 4 on the helmet, just brilliant, dropped GoPro due to software issues a long time ago…paired with a stand alone Mic2 genius.
I have the hero 12 and have just purchased the action 4… when I put the 256gb as card in the GoPro it shows I have 10+hours of record time but only 5 hours on the action 4. The settings are 4k 30 for both cameras. Have you found the same issue in your comparison?
What’s the video compression set to? If the Action 4 is set to H.264, then the videos will be much larger. HEVC is the best choice for more space on the card.
Quick reply thankyou. It’s set to HEVC, I never changed this setting. It’s strange, I have purchased a 512gb sandisk extreme pro in case the other sd cards had been somehow messed up by the GoPro which they have been used in, even with this 512gb it’s only showing 11hours record time 🤔
In this case I used the DJI mic 2 (mostly). After that i add a low cut filter, a bit of mid boost, some compression and a little bit of voice isolation (all in Davinci Resolve).
@ please anytime if you can help me with short video of the process that u can upload to yt private and share link please , because i never edit in davinci before . That will help me a lot because i am facing hard time with my dji mic .
@FBK-811 I’m afraid putting together Davinci tutorials is a whole other level of complicated! I’m sure there’s some stuff out there already on RUclips that can point you in the right direction.
Wow now there's a comparison review! I'm doing the same as they sent me a simalar package.. but I'm struggling to give up my Gopro as find the lapel mic on the osmo losses too much ambient sound of the bike.. I do need to see if I can get the wireless mic in my helmet somehow though but don't think I can make it fit in a sports helmet.. great review Andy 👏 Also with the external mic takes the camera 30 to 50 seconds to switch to the external mic from the internal.. means if your on a tour can miss what your riding past if you quickly turn the camera on
Thanks Chopsy. You’re absolutely right, the equipment had to fit the person using it and if you can’t get the mic in your helmet then it’s not going to work for you. For me i tend to have the two cameras so normally turn everything on and off together, so it works. I can confirm the delay though, it was usually about 20 seconds for me. Do you use any audio compression in post? I never really felt like the lapel mic method with the DJI lost any ambient sound, but with the compression, the noise floor is raised which brings up the background noise a fair bit.
@AndyManCam hi Andy, I had to drop the gain right down to avoid clipping. Then of course ambient sound also reduces. But just been experimenting just dropping the wireless mic in front of my mouth (so not fixed) and with my chin curtain it can't fall out.. going to do a test ride this afternoon to see how it works. But first impressions is very good! You could just have revolutionised my motovlog setup you beauty!! 😘
@LambChopRides Fingers crossed eh! I do pretty much the same, but with the magnetic tile tucked into the cheekpad for a little extra security. Good luck!!
It depends on the circumstances. If the light is perfect, then definitely the Gopro, as it has higher resolution. In lower light conditions, probably the DJI as it has larger pixels which give it better light gathering capabilities.
Hi Philip. It’s the Aprilia option SC Project. Do you have a Tuareg? I’ve always been of the opinion that most of the awesome noise comes from the airbox with this bike!
@philipchesters2824 And a fine stablemate it would be! But i reckon that other than weight saving and looks, the SC endcan doesn’t make a huge difference. I didn’t notice a huge sind difference between the stocker i test rode and mine. I just got the can because it was already on the ex-demo bike.
Yep. Rukka really came through for me on this one. More vents than ever before! It‘s the Equado-R / Explore-R and I really like it. I’ve even warmed massively to the white.
@NathanYelland If you can get an Exegal for 700€, then naturally there’s no contest. Especially considering the Exegal comes with the awesome Outlast liner. But on a level playing field (which of course doesn’t exist as one model is old, the other current) the Explore-R jacket is ‚only‘ 500€ more. For that you get way more vents, 2 extra chest pockets and a level 2 back protector as standard (i bought the level 2 for the Exegal and it cost me an extra 80€). All of which put the value of each closer together. Ultimately it’s horses for courses. The Exegal can work fantastically as a year round jacket and considering FC Moto has them for around 700€ it’s a steal. But the Explore-R is just that extra level of comfortable in the hotter weather, while losing the thermo liner for winter use.
I can see all of the upside seems to lean toward the Action 4, But every time I looked up to the top of the screen to see what camera was in use I thought "I like that picture the best" it was the Gopro!? I think its to do with the colour saturation, the Action 4 is just to much in your face colour wise .
The HERO12 Black is actually less hardware than the HERO11 Black, as it's missing the GPS sensor. But hey, it's case is sprinkled with blue fairy dust instead which is way better, isn't it? 😜
I decided to skip that detail to avoid getting caught up in the weeds, but it’s a bit of a joke that the ‚new‘ camera is basically the old camera with less stuff and a different software. Reeks of investor pandering and profit fluffing.
DJI has good reason to be confident. I didn't quite catch the logos immediately at the top of the screen but when you went back and forward at the very start I could tell the DJI was a better quality. It just looks more natural. The Gopro looks okay but has a gross fish eye effect and makes everything look wider than they outta be. When you move your head the Gopro also gets really jello-y. For the DJI camera to be the better camera to live with, better quality and then cheaper. Yikes, Gopro. What are you lads doing over there? I also agree that 4k is overkill. Unless you have an enormous TV you are just not going to see a difference in pixel density between 2k and even 1080p with a lot of screen sizes. I have a 4k ultrawide monitor and a 1080p monitor right beside each other. You could accuse me of having poor eye sight and you'd be right but it is indistinguishable. The main advantage of 4k when it comes to editing your projects is that you can digitally zoom a 4k video without losing quality because of how overkill it is.
There have definitely been some strange choices made over at the Gopro camp. Limiting FOV, aspect ratio and framerate options in the lower resolutions is by far and away the strangest. I hope they step up with the Hero 13 otherwise they could be in trouble.
Thank you Chris. Not anything that I’d stand by, I’m afraid. I had a pre-production version of the ACE, but it’s changed too much to make any opinions I’m afraid.
It does, doesn’t it! Easily the most addictive sounding bike I’ve had. Yeah Gopro really pulled out the laziness stops (or perhaps the opposite!) with the H12, which easily could have been a firmware upgrade to the H11. Hope they sort it out for the H13 or it really could be curtains for the champion!
I never understand how reviewers that ride bikes get their voice so clear with the Mic2. I have some magnetic tape in my helmet with the Mic2 attached to it and I still get loads of wind noise.
Great comparison Andy, to my eyes, the GoPro 12 was a lot more washed out and less depth of colour than the OSMO Action 4 Side-by-Side was easiest comparison.
Many thanks! I tend to agree Graeme. The shame for the Gopro was that it consistently over exposed the image, potentially causing or exacerbating that washed out picture. Sadly i didn’t realise until it was too late, plus adjusting would have negated the ‚out of the box‘ testing methodology. Ultimately, what’s important is what your eyes see and how you like it! 👍🏻
honestly speaking, gopro is overrated. dji is simply greater than gopro. especially the battery. it's a big help for me when i travel. no overheating, not even once. long lasting battery. u can simply set everything to almost automatic and results are stunning. you don't have to change settings in every footage. great job dji 👌
good day, could you please advise me on the settings for the dji osmo action 4 for traveling and riding a motorcycle even on light terrain, I can also set it manually, I would like it to be more colorful. video and I wouldn't have to edit anymore thank you
There is only one color profile that doesn’t need editing and that is the standard profile. If that’s not colorful enough then you’d have to add saturation in post.
I think nobody mentions it, because it’s inevitable. There isn’t a microphone (affordable) in the world that won’t pick up lots of wind noise on a motorbike at 60mph. The built in mics on action cameras are never going to be able to deal with that. So it’s pointless mentioning it. It would be like talking about the aerodynamics of a naked bike. It’s rubbish so everybody saves their breath! The external mic performance and built in mics at standstill are far more worthy of airtime.
@@AndyManCam I am not convinced that knowing what ' action ' cams are used for, that manufacturers are unable to put the mic somewhere, maybe enclosed ? Where wind noise won't affect it 🤔 ...
I think it’s the age old adage of, if it ain’t broke… As long as people keep buying the cameras with the mics as they are, the manufacturers will keep prioritising image quality and battery life and ignore the mic situation. To be fair, the quality of onboard mics is vastly improved in recent years, but the wind issue is simply the elephant in the room.
The 7 was a bit of a disaster. I managed to skip that one and went straight from 6 to 8. The 8 was best allrounder that they ever made in my opinion. Then it started going off the rails.
@@AndyManCam Thanks for your reply. When I bought the 7 back in the day and at £325 I thought it was going to be an upgrade! Freezing, battery life crap, would read card one day then the next day wouldn't read jack and then you would have to turn off all the features for battery to last a few minutes move. I just don't get why people would still buy a GoPro. Then there's add-ons? What a rip off when you compare the Action 3 , 4 and 5 you get the add-ons as standard!!! Plus its cheaper too! It's got to be a no-brainer !!!!!! P.S. I had a car hit me and the GoPro failed to record it! It shut down about 5 minutes in when in the 6th minute the car hit me/ or the bike!!
@@AndyManCam "ditched them" I only bought one 😂😂 and that was the Hero 7. I think I will get the Osmo action 4 x 2 to get started. If they work out like I know they will I will get two more!

@@AndyManCam given the £1000 price difference between that and your old rukka what do you think the value is still there?
EXCELLENT
Great analysis there, Andy. Do you have any insight into the Insta360 equivalent action cam vs. these two?
Thank you Chris. Not anything that I’d stand by, I’m afraid. I had a pre-production version of the ACE, but it’s changed too much to make any opinions I’m afraid.
😂 when the camera fell at 2:00
Warts and all presentation here! 😅
Looks like GoPro resting on their reputation while DJI have been working hard on making a camera that just works. P.S. the bike sounds awesome 👍👍👍
Post AI filtering and make sure dead cat is on
@@darylsummer1424 it’s a lot better now I’ve turned off noise cancellation
Someone could tell me what tipe of mass is exactly the one that he puts in the USB C with the Cable?
It’s Blu-Tac. But black. From a firm called Pattex.
@AndyManCam Thank you!
Happy to help!
That's an excellent comparison review. I'd love to see how it would compare to the AcePro with the same review. 🤔
That would be interesting to see. Sadly Instagram seem to have taken me off their Christmas card list, so I’d have to buy one to test!
There are online articles “why did GoPro fail” seems like the competition is better.
Certainly seems that way. Hoping for their sake that the Hero 13 has a few upgrades!
Brilliant!
Thanks Simon!
Boom...
Boom indeed! 🏆
DJI NR 1
If the shoe fits!
I got the dji action 4 and the mic2 it puts gopro to shame
Glad to hear that you're loving it!
Wind noise. If you get wind noise, then you can forget all other flashy features. Nobody seems to want to mention wind noise ?
@Terrybikesandmusic Insta have just released the Ace Pro 2, with a special mic windshield built in. Will have to check the reviews to see if it works.
That is why GoPro is crap, I bought the 7 and would never buy another GoPro after that!!
That’s a real bummer. Even more understandable why you ditched them. I’ve not had one single freeze with the Osmo action 4 👍🏻
@@AndyManCam "ditched them" I only bought one 😂😂 and that was the Hero 7. I think I will get the Osmo action 4 x 2 to get started. If they work out like I know they will I will get two more!
Every video on you tube i see osmo is always better than gopro so why people still buy gopro??
