I have a Hero 12 and an Action 4. Both are great, but I find I reach for the GoPro more often. The image quality is very good, although I do believe the Action 4 handles low light and white balance better. I’m keeping and using both.
These are good points, Rob. And well done on the battery tests, very thorough! I usually find these tests quite…unbalanced? For example, some cameras are in use longer than the others, so I suppose the battery capacity won’t be exactly the same. Or in other cases the resolution matters as well, like when you test Go 3 at 2.7 K while other cameras are 4K. What matters is the real usage and how fast it charges (so here I cannot complain about my Action 4 at all, it’s doing amazingly well). What would be your thoughts?
My biggest issue with GoPros is the horrible distortion. I’ve always hated them for it. Most people don’t use Linear so their footages, no matter how pretty the landscape might be, makes me seriously nauseous and dizzy. Or when they walk through a door and the doorway turns into a friggin pipe. Or they turn it towards the floor for a moment and the floor is bulging straight into my face (it feels like). I have to look away when you show the clips of using the additional wide angle lens, bad timing on my part for watching this whilst eating lunch 😅. I was so happy and relieved when I discovered the DJI thanks to your channel. I have the Osmo Action 4 since October, and even if I need to switch to wide instead of dewarp, it’s such minimal distortion that I can ignore it.
After fan of gopro since 2011 with 5 generations of cameras i had enogh and switched on dji. To many times had gopro cameras shut themself off, overheated.. told that battery was to low while it had 39% charge.. frozen many times.. did update.. factory reset or what ever.. still same problems. Also customerservice is a nightmare and slow.. waited many times in line for 47minutes..
I stopped using GoPro years ago when too many corrupt card issues and shutting down. Went to DJI and while on the action 1 it wasn’t the best i never had issues with dji. The latest DJI action 4 camera blows Gopro out of the water.
I have GoPro 4, 8, 11 and a 12 and two Sessions 4&5. I use for windsurfing, kitesurfing and motorcycling and I have never had issues with freezing or overheating and I believe this is down to what I use the cameras for in my world. I also use top quality SD cards which can reduce the risk of issues. My friends swear by their Action 4s and Ace Pros but when we view our footage mine just looks better. It’s warmer, lusher straight out of the camera with minimal tweaking in post. In my opinion, there’s something inside a GoPro that just has it nailed for image quality and that’s why I shall stay loyal to the brand. Image quality is everything to me not features.
This. Owned a DJI Action 4 and a GoPro Hero 12. While the DJI was amazing in low light for stabilisation compared to the GoPro, there was something I really liked about the GoPros colours and the way the image looks soft but clear, the DJI looked too over processed. And I only use Lexar/ SanDisk/ Samsung/ Kingston high endurance cards. Nothing else.
I have a Gopro 11 and pretty happy with it. I would prefer 11 over 12. Just don't understand why they wiped off GPS. Sometimes it is useful to overlay speed for example. At the same time GoPro 11 does better in low light over Gopro 10
idk man i feel like the audio comments are unnecessary. when you buy an expensive video camera you still have to buy a microphone too. So, i get it the gro pro should be small but dont except to have great sound.
I have a Hero 12 and use it all the time for my surf Vlog. So it was used in the water constantly. After 8 month of usage, it suddenly soaked water through the locked battery compartment and died. I wanted to get another action cam with similar video quality. But the only two options had magnetic mounts which are a no go in the water (whiping out, they come off to easily). So I just got another Hero 12
Had the GoPro 10, shut down in snow resort after like 2m, switched up DJI action 3, then later upgraded to action 4, never had to worry about shut down any more and each camera lasts over 1.5h, with the combo, i could shoot my entire snowboarding day

It annoys me that the Hero12 doesn’t allow me to shoot 4:3 in 4K. I know, I can use 8:7 instead, but why not have the menu option of 4:3, it’s only software and will better match my Hero9 footage. Add features, don’t add new ones at the cost of removing an old one.

Think Ace Pro, that's really bulky in itself and then you have the extra magnetic thingies you need to buy for each place you want to mount the camera to (way too much money to "save you" 10 or 20 seconds twice a day when switching between mounts and, if you think about it, it's only for adding the finger mount thingies that GoPro already has built in) and the mic adapter for the wireless mic and you've got yourself quite the rig. I think people don't dislike it because its bad, rather because that the upgrades in the last years and after the hero 9 were so small. So it has gotten a prrety boring camera
Because its the same dead tech repackaged with the same cosmetics yet they demand more money for less. We're halfway through almost 2024 and until i see 8k 240fps with a battery life of at least 2hours at the max setting without the overheating in hot conditions then i will avoid this trash until a worthy competitor can give me what i need.
You throw GoPro under the bus in another video and expect us to subscribe? You don't have to buy the media mod to connect an external microphone. GoPro does sell a separate mic adapter. Just because Bluetooth Airpods Sound awful doesn't mean other Bluetooth microphones will sound awful. There you go throwing GoPro under the bus again.
I tested the hero 12 black and was not impressed. first of all it lacks the GPS which is a big downgrade. then there were loads of software issues and incompatibility with sandisk extreme pro memory cards which work just fine at high bit rate on the hero 10 black. then the media mod can use both mics on the hero 12, unlike the 11 and the 10, which is a ripoff for previous buyers. the max lens mod 2.0 could have been enabled by firmware on the hero 11 but no. ah, and it still overheats in normal use scenarios, even outdoors. what's the point of having 10 bit high bit rate settings if your camera shuts down after a short time and even without the GPS? they added that bluetooth chip to which you can connect 4 external devices but there is no bluetooth gps remote in sight, and the audio quality is bad with bluetooth devices, any devices. so they messed up their camera with the latest 12 black. there's that.
@@octny I've had the exact opposite of your experience with the HERO12. I think it's the best GoPro to date. I have no need for GPS data. The sheer amount of accessories available for GoPros makes up for any of its short comings. good for you that you like it and have no need for GPS data. Other people do. The fact that they take the option from you is bad. They could have left the option to enable it or disable it by software like in the past. For me many camera settings that they added are useless bloatware that slow it down and heat it up. Straight 4:50 out of Avatar movie

I have no issues with freezing or overheating with the Hero 12. Good review, thanks for sharing.
GoPro12 has no GPS. They should change the name to NOPRO12.
dji app removed due to the invasive permissions.... I'm guessing you like ccp products, perfect for recording for tic tok
How is GoPro 13
Decent. But wouldn’t buy one again. Comparison coming in 2 days
@@RobHK would you suggest DJI action 5 pro over this then
Still using the 10 with just the onboard mic. It’s a good compromise 🤩
Gopro wide lens distortion so ugly. So of no use.
Them demands bro 😅
You'll be waiting a long time. 😂
Nobody has that in a small action cam.
yeah so sad, plus accesories and stuff need to have a 1000 euro capability to spent without sleeping problems jajajajajaajaj
I have never has a GoPro and I’m jumping in with the 12.
I've been using GoPro's since the Hero 9. I have and love the Hero 12. Everyone has their preferences, likes and dislikes
😎😎
The Ace Pro is good but it lacks compatibility with Apple products and the magnetic clip mount is not to be trusted for extreme sports.
good for you that you like it and have no need for GPS data. Other people do. The fact that they take the option from you is bad. They could have left the option to enable it or disable it by software like in the past. For me many camera settings that they added are useless bloatware that slow it down and heat it up. There is only so much that GP2 processor can take being the third camera with that chip.@@Cameraflyer-
@@octny my HERO12 works fine. No heating up or slowing down. There are things GoPro can do that other cameras can’t.
@@Cameraflyer- i got it at launch and it had many problems: dead pixel in the lcd, random horizontal green lines on the lcd, sd card error on the sandisk extreme pro sd (which works fine on other gopros). And it shut down outside on my bike due to overheating. I bet it does the same thing when scubadiving with the protective housing. I like to take long videos around the highest resolution. But you would think that it cannot overheat in the dive housing in the water but it does!
