A note on the charging case. It intelligently charges the highest level battery first, that way you have very quick access to long term shoot. Neat thinking from DJI there ✌️
OC I got my DJI Osmo action 3 about 6 months ago and havent touched my gopro cameras ever since. Actually I've been giving them away to my friends who started riding to get him started. It does everything GP does but better IMO and the battery life... DJI almost 2 hours and GoPro 45 to 50 minutes. Looking forward to getting action 4 soon.

Man, I would love this camera. I am so tired of losing video, and the go pro freezing between quick shots in some weird power down loop that can only be fixed by pulling the battery.
Which GoPro are you using? I don't know how the Action 4 is, but my Action 3 has actually frozen 3 times since I've had it. My hero 11 hasn't. The sweet spot with the hero cams are 128-256 GB cards rated A2 U3 Class 10. I like the Samsung High endurance cards as they seem to work well or the red/brown Scandisk Extreme cards. The next secret is to offload/delete footage off the memory card once your memory card is around 80% used. Also format it within the camera itself everytime you empty it out. Ever since I've done these things, my hero cams hasn't frozen up on me at all.
As far as nighttime footage goes, record in 4:3 ratio with the lowest fps and use the least amount of stabilization as you need and see how it play out. Or..... Cough up $430 after tax for just the Action 4. (Btw, if you decide to go Action 4, I'll highly recommend getting the adventure combo. It is very much worth it (don't let me be the 4th person you've heard that from and still not get it)
@@Jonasegway I offload my video after every ride. Many times the GoPro has frozen or locked up with a single video on the card or nothing at all. I guess GoPro has been milking that CPU and just upgrading the processor. Ever since I started changing the mode, I haven't had any freezes at all so I don't know. Footage finally looks decent, no more oversharpening like on all action cams before this. It really shows at 10:10, gopro completely oversharpened to compensate for the tiny sensor & poor lens performance.

Audio has always been a problem for DJI. There is a work around that of course. In my videos, audio is pretty good (most of the time 😂). I really want to see if they fixed this issue.

I'm pretty sure the 4x3 recording mode is a full sensor read out whereas 16x9 just crops the top. So field of view (width) will be the same on both with the 4x3 having more height.
After struggling reliability and software glitches, over heating and poor battery life with each iteration of GoPro over the years I've just switched to DJI Action 4 and their new wireless Mic 2. Very happy 👍

Chase, my man! Hey, how does a LAV mic work with this camera? I had the DJI Action 3, and plugging a wired LAV mic in, even with the gain control all the way down, would blow out the audio once I was over 30mph... It was a known issue with the DJI... The only solution was to get the DJI wireless mic setup for $330, and it was clunky because you had multiple things to charge and mount, and I got caught in the rain and it fried. I found the wired LAV with two wind socks on it to work ok in the garage or sitting at a stop light, but the second I would get rolling and the exhaust and wind noise would rise, the audio would crackle and distort and be unusable...
@@chaseontwowheels Thanks man, I appreciate that. Getting good audio quality from a LAV plugged directly into the camera while ripping down the road is essential to folks like me... The noise of an MT-10 with loud exhaust and wind noise is a real pain and the audio would blow out and not be usable with the Action 3... been struggling with this for a long time...
There is a work around using the action3. The rode micro ai audio interface slots between the camera and the lav mic. I made the switch for a short time. Found that audio was blown out no matter what. Then found other motovloggers having similar problems. I switched to dji bluetooth mic only to find that the camera didn’t connect to it very well. The camera had a known issue connecting to its Bluetooth at first. I got mine “refurbished “ which was a poor choice im sure. I’m now using GoPro but have lost footage twice with it. I’m not interested in losing footage.
Does this camera have a quick capture mode like gopro? For example while the camera is off you press the record button and the camera turns itself on and starts recording.
i have much problems with external Mic, all audio clips are clipping, i cannot use it. I test 2 mics, with gain from 0 to -15, all the same, did you have a idea.
One thing you touched on but need to go into more detail is Jitter problems when say on your bike following some one else and riding through mixture of shade and sun from trees this causes severe jitter on the other person and ghosting i believe from watching other videos this is because stabilisation cannot keep up it is a really bad fault that no one wants to talk about and dji need to come up with a fix hope you will look into this because you say you only want the very best footage straight out of the camera it is whats stopping me from buying the action 4 at the moment thank you cheers

What about the audio as far as any adapters you may need, what type of external mic will it accept, are there settings for wind reduction? Does the external mic pickup the sound of the bike well? Great channel by the way.
hey Chase thanks for the review. Is there any way to plug an external mic to capture the sound from the helmet? if yes, then can the gain be adjusted? I am struggling to get a nice sound at high speed/wind with my Hero10.
Does the case have a spot for security wire aka mounting to aircraft? In case the mount comes off or camera comes off the security wire is going to catch it. Footage and stabilisation looks great
When I ride on my motorcycle, I have a GoPro hero 7 for my helmet camera. A hero 7 facing me and a hero 8 facing aft Utilizing the GoPro remote to activate it on and off. I have my helmet set up with my Pac talk edge so when I'm talking to my co-riders, I pick up our conversation in my video. How can I do this with the Osmo Action 4. Also, temperature is the Achilles heel of the GoPro. So, I use the quick capture mode, so the camera is on only for the shoot. As the GoPro battery I tend to let the battery discharge below 20 percent and incorporate an external power pack. Can I do all of the above with the DJI camera. Obviously, the battery pack isn't going to be an issue with external power pack if it has that kind of operational life. Thanks for a great video.
Your stabilization test looks great but I hear of people saying it’s a problem…. something in the settings? I’m in the market for a new adventure camera for off-road trips. Cheers
Thanks for the review. Camera looks awesome and I’m so done with my GoPro. When using for the helmet camera is the set up and mic connections similar or do you need and adapter etc. Thanks!!
besides the battery life, I didn't really see much of a difference than the gopro.... does it have a "media mod"? or how do you connect a mic from your helmet?
@@hi_im_dar That sounds promising as I am still trying to figure out which device would work best for me. GoPro's mic system, although not ideal, is superior to the competition from what I've seen.
Amazing stuff! What do you need in order to film vertically in terms of mounts with the Action 4? And is the lens really necessary or just a bonus if you are very into details?
Would be interested in how it pairs with in helmet audio. The setup, which mics to use etc. I know there lav mics are awesome so hopeful that there is a good helmet setup.
OC: What is the SD card situation, how large of a card will the camera support, and also does it break down the video files like go pro does? Please tell me there is a mic adapter?? Wireless mic? I have Hero 3+, 5 Black, 7 Black and a couple of sessions. I'd love to ditch the go pro brand, but have so much invested. Swapping batteries every 30-40 minutes is a pain.
I have put 256GB in my action 3 without any issues. Yes, it breaks the clips up in the memory. You can use a TRS mic with a usb-c adapter or USB-C mic with the camera, but it's highly susceptible to wind noise. The camera allows you to turn the mic input down -12dB, but you really need about -24dB if you plan on using it motovlogging. The only mic that I have found that works well with this camera, for motovlogging, is the DJI Wireless Mic. Sorry. Hopefully DJI can get off their asses and get this issue fixed. Until they do, I would just record to an external recorder and not waste any money trying to find something that works, and then just fix it in post.
Hello, thank you for the video. It's a great video. I use a Honda forza scooter and it is not as spacious in front as a naked motorcycle. That's why I don't find it logical to mount the camera on the chin of my helmet because I won't be able to photograph the road well. I use Shoei GT Air 2 helmet. Do you have any suggestions for mounting the camera securely on the top of the helmet? Thanks in advance.
OC!!! The main issue i had with my gopros where the clop always breaking off. Gopro always acted like it was my fault even though its cheap plastic. So I'm excited to get a action cam that has essentially fixed that issue.

Great , What is the camera which you shot the first rollers of the bike?
Your stabilization test looks great but I hear of people saying it’s a problem…. something in the settings? I’m in the market for a new adventure camera for off-road trips. Cheers
Thanks for the review. Camera looks awesome and I’m so done with my GoPro. When using for the helmet camera is the set up and mic connections similar or do you need and adapter etc. Thanks!!
besides the battery life, I didn't really see much of a difference than the gopro.... does it have a "media mod"? or how do you connect a mic from your helmet?
From what I hear the latest GoPros model have massive reliability issues. So if the DJI fixes that, it's already a step ahead.
@@derTJAY I have two gopro 10s and 1 gopro 11 and haven’t had any issues with them. Not saying they don’t but so far I’m happy with them
@@hi_im_dar That sounds promising as I am still trying to figure out which device would work best for me. GoPro's mic system, although not ideal, is superior to the competition from what I've seen.
Night footage is miles better than go pro
@@MonicaHolly143 Agreed.
Amazing stuff! What do you need in order to film vertically in terms of mounts with the Action 4? And is the lens really necessary or just a bonus if you are very into details?
How is the microphone sound. And how it handles the wind noise
@@DonkeyDongDoug - thanks for that info!!
OC this camera looks great be interested to see how its holding up over time, mainly to see if the battery life holds
So far it’s amazing
Hello, thank you for the video. It's a great video. I use a Honda forza scooter and it is not as spacious in front as a naked motorcycle. That's why I don't find it logical to mount the camera on the chin of my helmet because I won't be able to photograph the road well. I use Shoei GT Air 2 helmet. Do you have any suggestions for mounting the camera securely on the top of the helmet? Thanks in advance.
Oc amazing review!!! I was wondering about this camera
No complains with my GoPro hero 7 black... been using it for hiking and MTB. 4k 60fps
Wich sd cards to you use with the dji action 4?? ❤❤
Nice work. OC! BTW, your website doesn't seem to be up and running from the link in your last frame.
Ive had too many problems with the gopro and i wanna try these now 😂
OC!!! The main issue i had with my gopros where the clop always breaking off. Gopro always acted like it was my fault even though its cheap plastic. So I'm excited to get a action cam that has essentially fixed that issue.
You said the clop breaking? What clop
Does it record sound? If so, what is the sound quality? Helmet mics? OC🙂
gopro hero 11 or dji osmo action pro for moto vlogging ? which one will you suggest ?
Can we do motion blur with dji 4?
OC. ya might get this over the Insta360 ace pro just bc of the field of view. Would like to get the ability to see the handle bars from end to end
When you said "I have the gopro 10 it is my trusty sidekick" I had to giggle a little at the trusty part LOL
what jacket you are using for the motorcycle? Would love to get it.
Mic in for motovlog mic ?
Is it good camera to mount on your helmet ?
What’s ur shutter speed and iso for when using nd filter?
Sir san po pwede maka bili nga type c adapter and mic po pa sagot po plss. Wala kasi ako mahanap naa compatible
OC: So, now you've had the Action 4 for a while is it still as good as you thought? Does it randomly turn off, or corrupt files, like the Go Pro products?
Do you have the option of editing your footage in the DJI app right from your phone to upload videos?
Mate whats your settings for colour/exposure?
I agree. No comparison between the 2 in reliability.
What about external mic audio manage? Is it crisp or over gained ?
With Instago 360 2 or 3 you can choose between horizontal or vertical video without post processing
Also are you using moto mounts for the helmet attachment?
Is there an app to download the footage too?
What chin mount do you use?
