Man, that’s years of knowledge packed in there! Great job laying this all out in an easily digestible way. Almost makes a guy want to start a RUclips channel. 🤔
Thanks for all the tips, I recently started up a fishing and hunting channel and finding an editing software is the hardest part! I have window's unfortunately though.. Keep up the great work, your videos are awesome! 👍
Thank you! The great thing about fishing and hunting channels is we don’t need fancy editing software. We need to trim, adjust audio, add some overlays and titles, Etc. I’m sure you can find a good one for windows.
Excellent video Barry. I just purchased the hero 10 and plan on building my channel. Your videos were very inspirational for me. Keep up the good work.
Hey FS! Sorry for the delay, I’ve been working at my ‘day job’ a ton, 52 hours this week so far, another day before a have some breathing room. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! I’m looking forward to my ‘Steelhead December 2022’ series. I have a ton of footage to edit from March, I’ve been reviewing it. Good stuff. I also will be doing some education videos as well. 🎣
@@RAGEFISHING I had a short week this week, but I do know about them long weeks. They bite. Steelhead is not something I have targeted yet. I have spent a lot of time on the coast and some of the local lakes. Even hit a few of the rivers for some 'nooks. I look forward to seeing the tips. I am going to attempt to get out and hook a couple this winter.
Thanks for making this video. We do things very similar. I record in 4k 30fps and have been debating whether I should change back to 1080p. After watching this, I think I'll just keep doing things the same. It's been working for me.
Thanks for the comment, glad to see you watched the strategy video, I almost should have done these in reverse order. 😬 Good luck with it and reach out if you have any questions.
Checking back in from episode 1! Ok, I've since fished, filmed and published several fishing trips, and just upgraded my rear boat camera to a Hero 10 and added a yolotek to mount and power it. I struggle with sync'ing the video's when editing. Any tips you've learned you could share on how you go about it syncing things up? I also use iMovie on a Macbook. Kind on along the lines of the syncing questions, since you use more than 2 camera's, how do you do manage piecing together more than 2 camera's in iMovie, since I believe it only allows 2 tracks? I'm considering a 3rd camera, but I keep thinking I'll need to use something like DaVinci Resolve, but maybe not? Thanks, Cody
So I usually place the secondary camera footage as ‘Picture in Picture’ and make is small in the corner, I sync it up by audio. Then I just choose which camera angle looks best or makes the most sense, sometimes even using these transitions between cameras to shorten the clips without using obvious transitions. So the timeline wouldn’t actually end up Picture in Picture, you would just cut and drag the secondary camera angle down into the timeline and delete the primary using a transition like cross-dissolve. Hopefully I’m making sense. Some of the time I will even play both angles like a hook set in a row, one after the other. The second one I will put like, ‘tripod cam’ or ‘Haley Cam’ or ‘Net Cam’ Etc. One thing I learned from ‘The Hunting Public’ channel is to clap loudly during lag times which makes a huge bump in the audio, making it easier to locate and sync the clips together. I don’t think you need to change editing programs, it’s just learning the little tricks in iMovie. I hope this helps!
@@RAGEFISHING Thank you, yes, that makes sense. That's pretty much what I'm doing with picture in picture, then trying to find elements like body movements to key off of. I've heard of clapping, but honestly, I get so wrapped up in fishing I forget. LOL Thanks for the feedback and tips, truly appreciated!
@@OutdoorQuests you’re welcome. If you stretch out the timeline and look for a loud noise or speech, you can get it super close. It is a challenge, but you don’t have have the audio on in both clips once you have it close. Good luck!
I do not, it doesn’t save any battery life since the camera is always on. Also, sometimes I use the ‘in between’ footage as B-Roll. You never know what you might capture. I generally use 256 GB cards which easily hold a days worth of footage.
Do you run your cameras constantly while you’re fishing? Several hours of running continuously would be a large file but audio would be easier to sink if you leave everything running?
Yes, my main camera is running while I’m fishing. I do stop them occasionally between fishing locations or when taking breaks. Even though these can be large files, you can trim them to save the portions you want to keep. And that does make it easier to sync the audio to your secondary cameras.
I have zero experience with anything other than iMovie on my Mac computers. I use the CapCut app for editing reels for IG. If I was going to use a PC I’d use Adobe or Final Cut.
Thank you. Once my video is edited, IMovie has a ‘share as’ feature and I choose ‘file.’ The standard setting is 1080, but I roll that down to 4K. As far as the bit rate, I change that to ‘custom’ and move the dial all the way to the end, usually 66 MPS. That’s more than you really need for RUclips, but I want the best resolution possible. Then I go to RUclips with my file on the desktop and upload it. RUclips takes it from there. Hopefully this helps!
I finished this a few days early and didn’t want to wait until Friday! 😁

@@RAGEFISHING Question! what video editor do you use. I tried clipchamp and it has been a nightmare.
I use iMovie that comes installed on Apple computers. It’s super simple.

Hello, nice video with good information. Question: Does iMovie render your vide once edited? or you're using another application for rendering...

@@RAGEFISHING thanks for the info! It seems iMovie for ios doesn't have this option. :)
@@paulbfsfishing I’m not sure. 😬 I do all my editing on my MacBook or iMac.
Man you fish AND play the guitar?
Yep, been ‘playing’ the guitar since I was in middle school. Not very often now. 😁
