It produces food in a pill form as well as coffee still in a liquid form.”
Omg yes! I loved the Jetsons as a kid and reference dial a meal all the time, especially when I’m trying to explain my appetite issues. No one ever knows what I’m talking about 😂
As a person with ARFID I must say that the version you ate in this video is so completely different from the dole whip in the park. I hate the one from the store but the Disneyland one is one of my favorite foods I would consider it a safe food if I had access to it all the time
See I saw these in the store yesterday and I thought "I always wanted to try one of those!" And then I realized it was in the italian ice section and my brain went "I don't think I'll really like that". I do enjoy Rita's italian ice tho.
I think Italian ice works better because it's more honest about who it is. Dole Whip is deceitful from jump as it is only sometimes Dole and never Whip.

Unfortunately, the grocery store Disney treats are NOT the same as the ones in the parks. 😔 The Dole Whip is the wrong texture and the flavor isn't quite right either, the Mickey Bars are smaller and use milk chocolate rather than the dark chocolate in the parks (the park bars aren't a bitter dark chocolate, just not a milk chocolate).
I was thinking the same. The Dole Whip from market freezers is nothing like the smooth creamy Dole Whip we eat sitting and waiting to get into The Tiki Room!
Ice with ligaments omf That's exactly it. Those shards of ice that stab then break in an unsatisfying way, not a good crunch or pop, just *break* with nothing to add to the experience.. I think they're better after being put through the blender to *whip* them properly, it's a nice slushy sensation that melts pretty fast
Isn’t it interesting how we all have wildly different things we can and can’t tolerate? I’d live on ice cream and sorbet and snow cones if I could. On a really bad day it’s one of the safest of my safe foods. To be fair the soft serve version of dole whip has a completely different texture than the stuff in cups at the grocery store.
The “I don’t trust you 👀” was personal 😭😭😭. Good on you for trying it. Hopefully you find a treat you like soon 🤍. If you’re looking for something cold, maybe try strawberry ice cream (I prefer without the chunks of strawberry in it). It’s simple but good
My older sister was like this when she was young. She liked to say she just wished meals were a convenient pill to just get it over with quickly. I never understood, till these videos. I find food enjoyable, for the most part. Sipping drinks like tea are my comfort though.

There are stringy bits of pineapple in Dole Whip, which is what I’m pretty sure he is referring to. When in fresh soft serve ice cream it is a lot different than when they are in hard frozen soft serve ice cream. Soft serve ice cream is only good soft.
Hm. I don't have food aversions, but I DO get absolutely sick of thinking about food. Multiple times a day every day. And I have children to feed so there's only so much I can simplify things.
Hey thanks for sharing your journey with ARFID. I didn't know that was a disorder until I started watching your content, and it's been really helpful for me to learn about. I've always described myself as a "really picky eater", because I'm extremely sensitive to food textures. I knew I wasn't anorexic or bulimic, so I just thought I was a weirdo with the palate of a toddler. So my experience FINALLY makes some sense.
As soon as he mentioned the ice sounds i knew it would be a no cus i avoid foods that do that because its usually not going to be good in past experiences 😭 im glad he tried though

It’s supposed to be served out of a soft serve machine though, with air mixed in. My little sister & dad were close & they always enjoyed it.! If you care, mb try it at an ice cream place so it’s actually “whipped”. I heard they have key lime.❤😊love you guys . N

This! I cannot do the texture of honey, but I love the exact thing you hate, I love the icy mush, it feels fresh and cool, honey feels heavy and CLOYING, that's the word... So I’m kind of the opposite of you; I try and will usually eat just about anything though I do have sometimes VERY specific preferences (ex: certain pasta shapes, orange & red bell peppers > green, bell peppers must be grilled or baked for me to enjoy them, baked cauliflower only) though most are just that - highly specific preferences. I’m usually able to push past them if necessary (ex: haven’t eaten all day, coworker offered me part of their food). Your channel has taught me a lot about ARFID. I wonder though, has there been a new food you’ve tried that you liked before?
Give the regular, soft serve, non-coconut Dole Whip a chance. You can get it at the park or even at some restaurants. We’ve found it at Hawaiian bbq places.
I've been diagnosed ASD/ADHD in the last 8 months. I'm 62. I used to believe if we didn't need food to live, I would not eat. I am over that now except I can find so many things to do besides cook, eat and clean up.
I might have ARFID, but Im not too sure. When I eat anything that is just slightly too mushy, or anything with a texture like peas, beans, boiled carrots, anything like that, I literally cant make myself eat or Ill vomit just chewing on it 😅 Im diagnosed with ADHD and am a female, but I might have autism too! (If that explains any of why I might be so avoidant of certain textures. 😅)

As an AuDHD woman who LOVES the Dole Whip at the Disney Parks (My whole family would get one when we had the chance!), if it's got the texture of Italian ice and not a creamy soft-serve, those little cups like the one you had -aren't- the authentic experience, rest assured. I'd likely not enjoy those either because they'd probably feel to me like a weak attempt at emulating the real thing! Good job giving it a chance though! I used to be a very selective eater as a child too (I don't know if it was ARFID though, because I have since -mostly- outgrown it all and now have a very broad palate!), anything with ANY onions (I can now have cooked onions, but not raw or pickled!), too much cheese (especially if the cheese wasn't melted), or particular textures/flavors (I STILL don't like ravioli, polenta, or cottage cheese because of their textures!) was a no-go! I'm excited to see what else you try in the future!
Maybe see if a restaraunt serves it? There's a restaraunt near us (Nando's Peri Peri) where its done through soft serve, so its not icy at all like the one you ate that comes frozen in a cup
i had aversive when i was younger, now i just have restrictive and need to set alarms to make myself eat at certain times, so that i dont forget i am a living organism that requires sustenance
The ARFID videos are really interesting to watch, because my hyperfixation/obsession is food. I can talk and learn about it all day long, love to cook and of course love to eat. BUT I'm also very specific about it. It has got to be a certain way. If something is slightly off, like texture, colour or taste, I will try to find someone, who would eat it, to avoid food waste. Otherwise it's going into the bin. Not that it tastes bad, it's just wrong.
To be fair, I'm only fat because I was a stoner for the last 20 years. Been sober a little while now and it's a big day if I eat more than 800 calories on purpose. Prefer just to have shakes. Much more convenient.
I always wonder, is it easier for you to eat when you prepare your own food? Like with the peanut butter honey, is it more tempting when you make it yourself instead of your mom for instance? I don't have ARFID but I've noticed i get more hungry and ready for meal when i prepare it myself rather than getting it straight away, and often i also enjoy it more this way. Gives me a sense of pride and i think my brain has more time to get used to the idea that we're getting food soon
Dole Whip is too sweet for me, and that line at Disneyland is like an hour long. I do have a question though, does it help if you explain what is in it first, instead of just having Toren taste it? The reason I ask is because it sounded like he didn’t know what he was actually eating. Dole Whip is just pineapple flavored soft serve ice cream with bits of pineapple in it.
I feel like this isnt a fair impression on dole whips because this looks completely different in texture to how an actual dole whip tastes like, which is alot creamier and smoother. Its closer to a soft-serve texture than an italian ice texture. Also dole whips, while popularized by disneyland, isnt actually exclusive to disneyland! You can also find them at ice cream stands at fairs sometimes too (or atleast my local fair had an ice cream stand that served dole whip. Which is how i know what they taste like despite never having gone to disneyland in my life)
I have an aversion to soft serve ice cream. I won't go near the stuff. Ice cream is meant to be hard, imo. You put it in the freezer for a reason and it isn't to get soft, lol Texture wise, even whip cream (NOT store bought) is hard for me to deal with. Light, airy nonsense. Gimme the thick, dense stuff. That's why I like my mother's (well, came from her family anyway) cheesecake. Takes 3 days to make and it's super dense. Sticks to the roof of your mouth worse than pb. That to me is a real cheesecake. Give me that light airy stuff and I'll toss it in the freezer in the hopes it gets dense. Otherwise it goes straight into the compost heap. Pudding, brownies, yogurt - won't go near. Can't stand the texture. Won't handle raw meat either. I'll hold it with a paper towel, though. Will only eat meat well done. If it isn't, it tastes heavily of metal and ruins my sense of taste the rest of the day. Everything will taste metallic. Highly nauseating. Liver tastes better than uncooked (by my standards) meat....and I'm not much of a fan of the stuff! Jello is also hard for me to eat. While I enjoy the taste it's the texture I have trouble with. I see a jello mold and I'm gone, lol. Though even that is infinitely better than anything related to turkey, toduck, etc. and yes, I've tried the stuff. Only thing worse than the texture is the taste. **Shudders**
Yes.....we are thought of as PICKY EATERS most of the time. I WILL try new things. I guess that's my ADHD....however....my Autism wants ROUTINE, and relies on the FAMILIAR. It's hilarious, because when my ADHD is geared up for a FOOD ADVENTURE, my Autism isn't always on board, and I KNOW IT. LOL Like, I can FEEL my inner turmoil and excitement all at the same time. I have tried to explain it this way to my children, who are also on the Spectrum.....it's like ADHD and Autism are SIBLINGS. ONE CRAVES THE NEW/ADVENTURE/SPONTANEITY, and can be VERY IMPULSIVE, whereas the other (Autism) NEEDS ROUTINE=NOTHING NEW, nd can be very RIGID; OVERTHINKING about literally EVERYTHING. SO.....when someone wants me to try a new food, my ADHD is UP FOR THE CHALLENGE, BUT my Autism is giving me the SIDE-eye...like, ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO EAT THAT???? 😮😂 I'm a goof, and have learned to laugh at myself, but there are times where I get really upset 😞when I don't have to be, and others will look at me like.....are you seriously CRYING right now? 😢
I love food and tasting food, but lately I have had a lot of issues with the feeling of chewing? Like sometimes I think about eating and it grosses me out that we chew and swallow it, especially when something gets stuck in my teeth it bothers me...

No matter how she tried I would say nope to almost everything. I asked isn’t there just a pill I can take to avoid all this? I guess this is something You heard often: I eat to comfort myself too much so the idea of not having appetite sounds like something amazing good for me. I know it's not for You in this big dimension but I had to speak out loud once to be honest. I hope You understand. As food IS indeed something we have to do for staying alive to have problems with it is hatd. I can't just leave it as I stopped smoking twenty years ago. I have to eat. I eat vegan for about 15 years now and before was vegetarian. Because I imagine what it is and can't separate it from taste. Maybe like when they take blood samples at the doc. I hate it! I see the biological pictures of skin and veins and to imagine that the needle goes through all those layers is so gross for me I can't handle it. The pain is not a problem, just the imagination. I think this is also a thing my autistic brain is causing. We are all dealing with a lot of different problems and have so much similarities the same time. Like You and Your mom a lot.
I have to remind myself to eat. And even then it’s hard. I wait for my blood sugar to drop into the 50s sometimes, and then I’m unable to get up and make my own food.. so someone else has to make it. But by that point, anything smells or tastes or looks absolutely disgusting. My son won’t eat anything besides vegan GF soft pretzels, and vegan protein shakes … thankfully the shake has enough vitamins and minerals for his daily needs.
It is a pineapple soft serve ice cream with bits of pineapple in it. It is designed to be eaten directly after being dispensed, as soft serve ice cream does not survive being put into a freezer.
You need to have it fresh. I cannot eat it in these little cups. But when it's made fresh, it's pretty good. Not my favorite frozen treat, but when you're hot and need something to help cool down, it works. Also, I hate Steven Universe. I'll say it. I really wanted to love it, but it was so terrible, I couldn't get past the first season. Steven constantly putting his life and the lives of all those around him at risk because of his impulsivity, and never showing any desire to improve or even work on that impulsivity. Plus, the enabling behaviors of the Gems, really upset me.

Your taste buds seem hyper sensitive. Does everything tast exta bold to you? I find that as I age everything is either too sweet, or too salty. Have you ever considered voice work. You have a wonderful, soothing tone.😊
Ice with ligaments…that description made me shudder. I don’t like the ice creams in paper packaging either. I prefer soft ice like in sundae, but I always say no to any toppings. I recommend your courage and sacrifice to show us your ARFID troubles (and just so you know: I am not trying to be funny, I know from my neurodivergent son that eating can be very hard, he also wouldn’t eat if he could, because he has better things to do!)🫶🇳🇱

To be fair, I'm only fat because I was a stoner for the last 20 years. Been sober a little while now and it's a big day if I eat more than 800 calories on purpose. Prefer just to have shakes. Much more convenient.
I always wonder, is it easier for you to eat when you prepare your own food? Like with the peanut butter honey, is it more tempting when you make it yourself instead of your mom for instance?
I don't have ARFID but I've noticed i get more hungry and ready for meal when i prepare it myself rather than getting it straight away, and often i also enjoy it more this way. Gives me a sense of pride and i think my brain has more time to get used to the idea that we're getting food soon

Dole Whip is too sweet for me, and that line at Disneyland is like an hour long. I do have a question though, does it help if you explain what is in it first, instead of just having Toren taste it? The reason I ask is because it sounded like he didn’t know what he was actually eating. Dole Whip is just pineapple flavored soft serve ice cream with bits of pineapple in it.
I feel like this isnt a fair impression on dole whips because this looks completely different in texture to how an actual dole whip tastes like, which is alot creamier and smoother. Its closer to a soft-serve texture than an italian ice texture. Also dole whips, while popularized by disneyland, isnt actually exclusive to disneyland! You can also find them at ice cream stands at fairs sometimes too (or atleast my local fair had an ice cream stand that served dole whip. Which is how i know what they taste like despite never having gone to disneyland in my life)

I have an aversion to soft serve ice cream. I won't go near the stuff. Ice cream is meant to be hard, imo. You put it in the freezer for a reason and it isn't to get soft, lol
Texture wise, even whip cream (NOT store bought) is hard for me to deal with. Light, airy nonsense. Gimme the thick, dense stuff.
That's why I like my mother's (well, came from her family anyway) cheesecake. Takes 3 days to make and it's super dense. Sticks to the roof of your mouth worse than pb. That to me is a real cheesecake.
Give me that light airy stuff and I'll toss it in the freezer in the hopes it gets dense. Otherwise it goes straight into the compost heap.
Pudding, brownies, yogurt - won't go near. Can't stand the texture. Won't handle raw meat either. I'll hold it with a paper towel, though.
Will only eat meat well done. If it isn't, it tastes heavily of metal and ruins my sense of taste the rest of the day. Everything will taste metallic. Highly nauseating. Liver tastes better than uncooked (by my standards) meat....and I'm not much of a fan of the stuff!
Jello is also hard for me to eat. While I enjoy the taste it's the texture I have trouble with. I see a jello mold and I'm gone, lol. Though even that is infinitely better than anything related to turkey, toduck, etc. and yes, I've tried the stuff. Only thing worse than the texture is the taste. **Shudders**
Yes.....we are thought of as PICKY EATERS most of the time. I WILL try new things. I guess that's my ADHD....however....my Autism wants ROUTINE, and relies on the FAMILIAR. It's hilarious, because when my ADHD is geared up for a FOOD ADVENTURE, my Autism isn't always on board, and I KNOW IT. LOL Like, I can FEEL my inner turmoil and excitement all at the same time. I have tried to explain it this way to my children, who are also on the Spectrum.....it's like ADHD and Autism are SIBLINGS. ONE CRAVES THE NEW/ADVENTURE/SPONTANEITY, and can be VERY IMPULSIVE, whereas the other (Autism) NEEDS ROUTINE=NOTHING NEW, nd can be very RIGID; OVERTHINKING about literally EVERYTHING. SO.....when someone wants me to try a new food, my ADHD is UP FOR THE CHALLENGE, BUT my Autism is giving me the SIDE-eye...like, ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO EAT THAT???? 😮😂 I'm a goof, and have learned to laugh at myself, but there are times where I get really upset 😞when I don't have to be, and others will look at me like.....are you seriously CRYING right now? 😢
I love food and tasting food, but lately I have had a lot of issues with the feeling of chewing? Like sometimes I think about eating and it grosses me out that we chew and swallow it, especially when something gets stuck in my teeth it bothers me...

Omg as if I didn’t already know myself.. you, young man .. point out more evidence 🤣. I was such a worry for my mama (who’s love language was food). No matter how she tried I would say nope to almost everything. I asked isn’t there just a pill I can take to avoid all this? I was and still am very slim.. but I have managed to start enjoying certain foods.. especially when I prepare and season it for myself.

Interesting, I always had a fear of choking while eating and never knew others got that too. It didn't stop me from eating though like it might other people
i eat the same food every day but i am starting to switch over to salads for lunch (lunch is always different than dinner). i like good tastes but maybe it is not something for you.

I can't just leave it as I stopped smoking twenty years ago. I have to eat.
I eat vegan for about 15 years now and before was vegetarian. Because I imagine what it is and can't separate it from taste.
Maybe like when they take blood samples at the doc. I hate it! I see the biological pictures of skin and veins and to imagine that the needle goes through all those layers is so gross for me I can't handle it.
The pain is not a problem, just the imagination.
I think this is also a thing my autistic brain is causing.
We are all dealing with a lot of different problems and have so much similarities the same time.

I have to remind myself to eat. And even then it’s hard. I wait for my blood sugar to drop into the 50s sometimes, and then I’m unable to get up and make my own food.. so someone else has to make it. But by that point, anything smells or tastes or looks absolutely disgusting.
My son won’t eat anything besides vegan GF soft pretzels, and vegan protein shakes … thankfully the shake has enough vitamins and minerals for his daily needs.
What is dole whip? As far as I know, we don't have it in Australia.
It is a pineapple soft serve ice cream with bits of pineapple in it. It is designed to be eaten directly after being dispensed, as soft serve ice cream does not survive being put into a freezer.
Pineapple is texture - it’s stringy and gets in your teeth. If it didn’t taste so good some people would never eat it.

I think it's basically pineapple ice cream, or maybe more like a pineapple whipped cream.
You need to have it fresh. I cannot eat it in these little cups. But when it's made fresh, it's pretty good. Not my favorite frozen treat, but when you're hot and need something to help cool down, it works.
Also, I hate Steven Universe. I'll say it. I really wanted to love it, but it was so terrible, I couldn't get past the first season. Steven constantly putting his life and the lives of all those around him at risk because of his impulsivity, and never showing any desire to improve or even work on that impulsivity. Plus, the enabling behaviors of the Gems, really upset me.

Your taste buds seem hyper sensitive. Does everything tast exta bold to you? I find that as I age everything is either too sweet, or too salty.

Ice with ligaments…that description made me shudder. I don’t like the ice creams in paper packaging either. I prefer soft ice like in sundae, but I always say no to any toppings. I recommend your courage and sacrifice to show us your ARFID troubles (and just so you know: I am not trying to be funny, I know from my neurodivergent son that eating can be very hard, he also wouldn’t eat if he could, because he has better things to do!)🫶🇳🇱
