I have 17 years without a drink and have struggled with ups and downs. It was a big fight everyday for the first few years. Especially because my ex drink everyday in front of me and even started drinking what I drank. It was a personal hell, but it made me stronger in the end and then I left her. Best things I ever did. But can totally relate with the candy and loss of weight, I would eat a large bag of twizzelers everyday. Still lost 40lbs in first month. Congrats on getting sober and keep on keeping on, it only gets better with time. Blessings

  • @viewfromthehighchair9391

Glad to hear you are doing well. Small coincidence I'll mention briefly. I am currently reading (and will probably finish as early as tomorrow) a book by Marian Keyes called "Rachel's Holiday" which is about a young woman with a drug and alcohol addiction and what she went through. It is a great book filled with anxiety and humour and I got a great deal out of it and recognized some of myself in the character(s).
This will sound trite, I'm sure and will apologize for it; however, probably the only reason I don't currently have an active alcohol addiction is, I stopped drinking when I could no longer get drunk starting in my late thirties/early forties. I would drink about 3-4 bottles of beer (I never really drank liquor at all) and start to get a hangover and could never get to the "good feeling" so I started to drink far less. Then, I stopped going out as I got older and lost some of my drinking friends. Now, I probably average less than a beer a month.
I still love the taste of beer but, if I can't get bed spins (my ultimate goal), it is no longer worth the trouble. My biggest drink total in one night was at a friend's cottage where we played a dice game called "3-Man" which involved many shots. I drank a full 2-4 (Canadian for 24 bottles of beer) in 4 hours. The next morning I got up and drank 9 more bottles of my buddy's beer as he had passed out first the night before. He had given permission by the way. So I definitely was an alcoholic in the making, if not at the time; however, and I guess luckily, I got talked out of it by my own body which just couldn't take it. Probably for the best.
I wish you all the best going forward and stay away from the sugary stuff. I am currently fighting a sugar addiction myself with pop/soda being my gateway drug. I'm borderline type II so I'm get help with it and walking a tightrope at the best of times so I understand what you mean by the sugar craving thing. Fight it!!

Go you, what an extremely good, very positive and uplifting video you've made here! 🙂My advice, stay with the winners. 36 years plus, it's what I'll keep doing. Why change what works really well for me. I.Shane.G.😋

Thats great, congratulations! I am 6 minutes sober right now and it feels great. I’ve kind of given up hope on my hair repairing tho, 11 years of speed and heroin addiction will do that. 💪

Great post! October I'll be coming up on 39 years... Chocolate is my temptation now. I can stop eating it any time I want, but apparently... I don't want to stop very often.

I knew there was something about you other than your sense of humor and pretty face. I grew up with alcoholic and drug addicts, so the only way I could piss off my parents and sisters growing up was not to drink, never smoke pot or do drugs, and what really pissed them off was become a Republican. Don’t know what type of alcoholic you were, but my family were mean drunks. Not physically, but verbally. Funny how at high school and college reunions people remember me as “The Designated Driver.” (Always nice to see a girl you had a crush on that years later says, “Didn’t you drive me home in my car and then walk 5 miles back to get your truck? I should do something to repay you! Here’s a gas card.”)

Great message…spot on, from a 23yr recovered alcoholic. I still get sugar cravings and can sometimes smell and taste wine from across the room in a restaurant 😵‍💫🥴 sorry to double dip buuuuttt; don’t be surprised or scared that down the road you may have a drinking dream so vivid that you wake up with a physical hangover….seriously it has happened more than once to me..not in quite a few years though 🙃

I went cold turkey after 9 years of daily alcohol and Xanax abuse. Started carnivore diet at same time. Almost died in the first month. Now at 47 I'm very happy healthy and fit. And people who drink I will not even talk to. It's not that I don't get it. I can't subject myself to it. And congratulations!

I'm bald. My hair was falling out when I was a drunk and it continued to fall out after I got sober. My life still got better though in other ways. Yes a few times I was called out for not drinking at work functions. I just told people I was driving afterward and wasn't comfortable getting behind the wheel after drinking. That usually shut people up who were drinking and driving. Congrats on your three years of sobriety.

I know this is 7 months later and a lot can happen in 7 months, especially since it’s one day at a time, but way to go!!! 3 years is huge!!! I will have 3 years off opiates here in a couple months.

The sugar thing is huge. Used fresh juices to segue dependency when I took breaks in the past. Gave it up for good 10month ago and just noticing the hair thing! It’s wildly vibrant and healthy again. So stoked!
