    Just for anyone wondering, our GC2 machine can’t measure Clubhead speed, it predicts it based off of ball speed. That’s why the Clubhead is higher on the rogue x. They all had same length and same shafts in so Clubhead would of been 95mph with all the clubs. Hope that clears things up. 👍

    34° 7 iron and 4 degrees between the rest. Perfect loft separation for me. Ben hogan!!

  • @muffin0079
    @muffin0079 5 лет назад +23

    This is why I like my blades. 4 degrees between each loft through the set. These power lofted clubs leave you nowhere else to go at the top of the bag. So 6-5-4-3 irons go around the same distance 2 degrees ish between lofts is just too close

      This is actually why I just stop at the 6 iron and basically treat it like a hybrid. Saves some room for customizing the bag with other things at the very least lol.

    Just ordered the i500’s being a 6 handicap I really like how they brought down my spin and launch angle which has been my problem. While I don’t need the extra distance it wasn’t an issue adding a few extra yards imo . I also had no problem controlling distance. Haven’t tested them on the course so we will have to see how they handle in the rough

    I went on ebay and found a set that I used to have when I played well a few years ago. Mizuno MP 30'S. Love them. No idea of the lofts but guessing will be standard. I'm not bothered that they are about 10 yards shorter per club than some irons I have used in the last few years. ⛳

    Most testers have concluded a blade is not any more workable than a game improvement club. That’s just a myth. It’s totally on the player to control face and path.

    I dug out an old set of Bob Toski Irons from about 30 years ago. OMG they are so chunky with one of the thickest top lines I've ever seen. I can't believe they used to look good to me. LOL. The loft is printed on the irons. The 8 iron is 39 degrees loft, which is more loft than most modern 9 irons.

    Great timing as I am looking for new irons due to increase in club head speed meaning I have the wrong shaft - yes I know I could get the current irons re-shafted but new irons are shiny!!
    I do not like the look of the Rogue. top line is way too thick for me.
    Sadly, my fit is in the morning. I guess I will have to get up early and do some stretching

  • @oatechaosincycles
    @oatechaosincycles Год назад +1

    Yup, my irons are traditionally lofted. I've noticed too that the shafts are longer by standard on new clubs as well. I have to explain this to people I play with after out driving them all day then taking more club on par 3s.

  • @chrismayor5147

    Saw this and immediately had to watch. 35/31/27 was 7/6/5. This, listen to this, could not agree more. Hence rescue/hybrid have now got lots of loft options. Simon spot on, if you go for strong loft i.e. 7 is really a 5 with wrong number on the bottom. Best bit of advice, in my opinion, is afternoon fit and make sure you hit yours at the end, versus recommended. Every fitting ever...let's start with yours. Yep, get you at your worst with yours, then when warm, get the proposed new club out. Please watch this if you are going to get fitted for new irons.

    Switched to AP3 this year from AP2 fitted wedge to 6 iron with an added 4 iron, standard in my bag though is wedge to 6 iron + hybrid and then fairways, the loft difference meant I needed an wedge but lofts are crucial to consider

  • @wallstreetoneil
    @wallstreetoneil 5 лет назад +5

    The peak height and descent angle of those Pings is insane - 49 meters average peak height with 53 degree descent angle - wow. My Mizuno Hot Metal Pros 7 iron was 33meter peak height & 177 yard carry with 5800rpm backspin at 30 degrees loft - had it increased to 32 degrees which gave me 171 yards and 6100 spin. If there was any wind on the course, those Pings would be unplayable.

    Excellent information. As a senior (73) with single digit index, I have the stronger lofted irons. As you mentioned my irons start at 6 iron due to the strong lofts. As long as a golfer knows how far they hit a specific club, the number on the club is not an issue. One a side note, I still get sufficient spin on the strong lofted irons.

    • @billfulton2273

    I like pitting all three of the same number iron against one another in the sort of three loft categories. Seeing where you belong at in regards to how much forgiveness you need, I think hitting a handful with each iron or hybrid in a set until you see a noticeable difference in results offline and distance dispersion gives you the best idea of what level of iron you need to be in. And like you said, once you get to the point where irons are going the same distance because the launch conditions you create, then it’s time to swap out the longer of the two with the next category of club, be it more game improvement iron, a hybrid, or a fairway metal.

    I know this is an old video but I have a question, I'm looking to get new (to me at least) irons as my set is some Cobra CXI irons from 2000 (oversized heads, cavity back, with traditional lofts). I have just started playing again in the past year and am a high handicapper mostly due to struggles off of the tee and some chipping. Since I'm a high handicap I want the forgiveness offered by some of the Game Improvement irons but am concerned about the strong lofts. I already hit my 35 degree 7 iron about 165 yards. Do you have any recommendations of things I can look at? Thanks!

    You may have missed the most important factor here - club head speed. Slower swing speed players use more lofted drivers to gain distance. However, club manufacturers deloft irons for game improvement irons. This doesn't make any sense. Slower swing speed players need more lofted irons.

    • @MrMidnightProwler

      . . . and you can find the lofts on most iron sets from 20+ years ago by Googling the brand and name of the irons with the word "specifications".
      The difference in lofts from then and now is shocking.
      This is the reason the current trend is to buy 7 and 9 woods.

I’m 73 and don’t hit the ball as long as I used to even with a slightly stronger seven iron good thing I carry a six iron to go my old seven iron distance. Why hasn’t this game standardized lofts on clubs so everyone knows what is being hit when you watch events? Also have you ever tested Orland clubs which are made in England?

      @@serenityinsilence congratulations 🎊 my point was, most of our members are 65+ years old and use driver to hit about 200 yds.
      So all struggle to reach most of our par 3s.
      As for your 220 hybrid, that's fine, but I'm guessing you've then got gaps in your yardage as your 150-160 7i is 60-70 yds away but you only have 2 more clubs to fill those numbers.

      I suggest you get your 4 iron delofted. I had the same issue (I play Mizuno MP-5), and had years of frustration with the gaping at the top end. I wouldn't carry a 4 iron and instead carry a 3 iron, then 5-P. Then I came across Ben Hogan and the 4 degree loft separation idea. Wanted to buy them but money is tight so took my set in and had my 5 iron bent 1 degree stronger to 26 deg, and 4 iron bent 2 deg stronger to 22 degree. Cost $10 and got me the same gaping across the set (driver down to lob) which made math a lot easier and less monkeying around with what club to carry for the day. Those Ben Hogan blades look sexy and feel sexier! I would love to get them so saving up for them. In the meantime happy with what I did with my set ... Try it.

    Ive just started about 5 months ago, i didnt know about irons and loft etc and just bought a used set of callaway x22 and have since learned that my 7 iron is 33degrees of loft and although i have worked very hard to get distance and i now hit my 7 iron on average 165, 170. I have been workung at this very hard and have recently began to play much much better golf today through 9 holes i shot 4 over, but i cant help but think maybe i could get closer to par with a bit stronger loft, one hole in particular is a par 3 186 yards from the whites and i just come up a few yards short even with a well struck ball. I wonder what your thoughts are ? Would i be doing my self a dis service by switching to more forgiving and slightly stronger lofted irons down to say a 6 iron. I just feel ive done well for such a short time and i just keep getting better but i feel like i could be missing out and costing my self strokes. I mean 20 something is ridiculous for a 7 iron but maybe just 30 compared to my 33 could make a huge difference?

    But are you hitting your 6-iron and 5-iron that high? That far, yes, I understand that, but are you hitting them that high? Lofts jacked a bit, but still flying "like" a 7 iron height wise . . . just farther. :) But it does create a gapping issue on the wedge end so farther is not always better. I think something like the Rogue X is either for someone who has trouble w/ distance in general or someone who simply wants to tell his buddies he hit a 7 iron 200 yards. ;-)

Considering a new set of Mizuno MP-20 musclebacks which can go a little bit further than my current set but not crazy amounts further. I don’t want a 7 iron going the same distance as a 4 iron. Peter Cusanelli no same shaft, GC2 can’t work out Clubhead speed so ignore those numbers. It guesses it based on ball speed alone.

    I had the rogue X I was seduced by the supposed extra distance. But in reality I found them harder to hit due to the low lofts. Had to buy an extra wedge due to the PW being so low lofted. All all in all they were a bag of shite😁.

    When the likes of i500 and P790 were tested the main concern for players with higher club head speed seemed to be the gapping. How do you deal with a 7i that goes 185 when a PW goes 135? 50 yards to cover with a 9 and an 8... Unless you crank up the loft of the PW so it goes 150 and then add 3 more wedges.

      Besides when you crank up that loft stronger, who knows what else you're affecting? Hosel, bounce, etc. I have Mizuno mp60s, which are well known to be lofted more than other clubs. 7 iron goes 140 yd, which is 10 yards less than my snake eyes blade seven iron, but I don't care. I need to go further, I'll take more club...

    Unpopular opinion: "Blades(/clubs with less forgiving lofts) are only made for, and used by, 40% of tour players".
    I disagree. Golf is hard but it's a competition between you and yourself.
    Play with the clubs you feel comfortable with. There's too much talk about forgiveness, but it's all down to you and your swing and/or what you're looking for. Cavity backs or not, you choose. Would you rather smack a ball 20 yards further in the woods (buy a book of mushrooms) or getting a miserable 20 yard shot which creates a beam along the staff that tells you your shot was miserable? I don't care what you choose, but choose your own club independent of what anyone else says.
    My personal advice to everyone is learning the hard way - start with blades. E.g. if you're taught, and later on know how, to park between two cars with a truck you're better off trying it with a Fiat - and vice versa. If you already know how to strike a ball, then I, nevertheless, suggest trying blades. A bladed 7 iron hasn't the same loft as a cavity backed 7 iron. Maybe a bladed 7 iron isn't going as far as your old one but just change it up a notch, to a 6 or a 5 iron, and enjoy the game.
    There's plenty of blades you can pick up for a cheap price. You don't need the latest version of any set of blades.
    Take care and be safe!
    From another one, with love,
    pawnhub

    Golfers playing with clubs like the p730 are delofting it much much more than any low or mid handicap golfer! RUclips creators forget to mention that, you all dont mention its the player striking the ball. The only reason loft would matter is if you don't have a correct swing, you all only talk about speed which is irrelevant unless you want it to go higher if your shaft is vertical at impact. Correct me if I'm wrong but loft is not key, a correct swing is key!?!?

    Why do people
    Slate these strong lofted clubs. I'm 50 yrs old play off 6 and need all the help I can get with distance. I've just traded my fitted cobra forged tec in for the speedzone irons and I have 5-gw filled in with driver, 3 wood, 52 wedge, 56 wedge which fits all my gaps I need. I hit a very high ball with lots of spin so I have no issues with gaps at all. Yes I've tried two sets of blades in the past and hated them when I struck shots of centre. Give me a game improvement iron all day long

    who cares what yardage other ppl hit with THEIR clubs....you have 14 tools to choose what you want in the bag. pretty sure most avg. golfers cant swing their irons 95 + because half aren't under 35 yrs of age and don't know what a gym is. Take a page out of Phil and The Knights book and strengthen your core= no back pain=swing club faster=more distance=use less irons n more wedges.

  • @evanmcdonnal

    Loft is all that matters. The numbers are irrelevant, especially now since manufacturers have loosened conventions so much. That 27* 7 iron is simply a 5 iron in any more traditional set. If you exclude driver and putter you have 12 clubs in a range of roughly 15-60* - meaning if the clubs equally spanned the range they'd each have a gap of 3.75*. In reality it would typically be the case that the lower irons and fairway woods have a 3* gap and then it moves up to 4* per club between the 5 and 6 or 6 and 7 iron. Of course the clubs don't have to strictly conform to this, wedges could top out at 58-64* and the 3W could be a couple degrees lower loft. Point is, all that matter is that you have good loft gapping in the set. Calling a 27* club a 7 iron is just stupid because you have like 5 or 6 wedges in place of the simple incremental numbering system since the PW that came in your set is actually a 9 iron in any set of irons from 20 years ago.
