      It's leftism... Kinda messes with the head coz he clearly screwing in a left headed club the hey presto it's right, then you're sat there trying to figure out which image is mirrored until of course you notice that all the figures on screen are inverted.
      Totally understand why you'd do this however a bit of candour wouldn't go amiss.

    I love your videos! By far the most insightful and useful golf equipment/fitting videos. I went through the process which you detailed in this video with my P790's to make them work as well as possible. I ended up in Modus 105 Stiff with stock lofts (5-PW). Fantastic irons that give me point and shoot accuracy.
    I'd love to see this fitting be redone with the tester swinging at his normal swing speed.

    I have limited experience of strong lofted/high launching/low spinning irons, but think they have a place at the top end of the bag, to fill gaps between where irons finish & fairway clubs start. I do however wonder how Matt would have managed when trying to play ‘feel’ shots high/low, shaped shots, off sloping lies etc, I suspect the standard deviation would increase hugely with the ‘power bats’? Absolutely loving the content guys!!

    I've watched a few of your videos and find them really informative. Never looked at the Notes before and just realized you are Canadian and in Toronto!! Was just talking to a buddy of mine about finally getting custom fitted for clubs, probably later this year and a trip to Toronto (from Windsor) will be in the cards.
    As I do my research into which clubs to move towards I'd really like to see more information on the impact/face contact data. With such a small number of shots to base an analysis on a couple of shots on the high toe with one club and low heel on the other could dramatically skew the results. I'd like to see a side by side comparison. As a 10 handicap straight hitter hitting Adams irons with pretty standards lofts (33 degree 7 iron) I'm leaning more towards this kind of club but would consider the stronger lofted clubs. My caveat is I'm much more concerned about accuracy vs. distance and not entirely sure the stronger lofted clubs really do provide the added dispersion I found in this video.

  • @monotts5218

    Morn Lads. Thanks for video answering an earlier question. Much appreciated. It's added to my view that with stronger lofts, getting the correct club/shaft/spin with right mix throughout the bag, e.g. 4, 5 irons & 19*, 21* Hybrids or 5 Wood at one end & "approach" clubs that produce right decent & stopping figures, 8, 9 irons & Wedges, is more essential now. I can see 1 "distance" going in favour of PW + 3 Wedges. For me one of aspects of these strong lofted clubs is need to be careful about paying £500/£700 on irons without getting proper custom fit.

    In my opinion, when comparing these two different tech clubs, I feel they should be compared by target distance instead of same club number. (Probably one club less for distance irons). Just because that’s how playing situations are. The landing angle and spin would be different than shown in many videos, therefore the dispersion data would not deviate as much as shown. Side deviation should be next compared... I think. You insinuate this at the end of your video. Thanks for the interesting videos!

    • @banditbaker1675
      @banditbaker1675 6 лет назад +1

      Marcos makes a very good point and I agree with him the the comparison should have been with a 6 Iron Miura and a 7 Iron TM, rather than both being 6 Irons. (After all, the TM 6 Iron is really a 5 Iron in disguise). Also it would have been useful if you had actually gone through the shaft change with the TM rather than just raise it as a possible remedy. After all you Guys are Club fitting experts, so you could have demonstrated again how skilled you are at matching a shaft to a Club DNA. Other than that the vid was as ever excellent.

    Hi, enjoyed the video. Like to comment on the same subject as Rodney Greenwell.
    Sure it's ok to show the extra distance with the P790, but (for me) the discussion about dispersion went a bit awry. With the Muira, Matt was hitting it straight but pulling it a bit left on average with the p790. That could be offset in the club as well as shaft choice. In terms of distance dispersion, the difference between shortest and longest hits (carry distance) was 14 yds in each case.
    In terms of the stopping distance, the p790 did roll out further (if we assume the software is correct in determining the response of the green).
    However, when you are playing real golf, you choose a club on the distance to the hole and for 185 yds Matt would be choosing the 6 iron from the p790 and most likely the 5 iron from the Muira range - the latter would have lower spin and more rollout than the 6 iron from that range. So that comparison is not like for like.

    I can only speak from my experience of going from my 20 year old Yonex's with traditional lofts to M1s last year. M1 7i had virtually the same loft as the Yonex 6i, it went a very similar distance but the M1 ball flight was a lot higher (and higher than my Yonex 7i). I am an average golfer but found the M1s to be very controllable. What I decided was not to buy a 4i but go for a 22-23 degree hybrid and an extra wedge. Of course the M1 is not a hollow head design, but I do not regret my purchase

    • @atomant830
      @atomant830 6 лет назад

      Justin Stephenson , glad the change worked for you. In your comment you mentioned 20 year Yonex irons, I game Yonex ADX Tour irons with Boron reinforced LTB600 graphite shafts similar to ones Mickelson gamed 20 years ago. I love the feel and the flight these clubs produce when ball is struck correctly. I'm curious (if you do have the same Yonex clubs) did your fitter for the M1's make any spec comparisons between the Yonex shafts and your M1's shafts? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

    • @justinstephenson9360
      @justinstephenson9360 6 лет назад

      I think I was gaming the same Yonex clubs as you - certainly in the woods , the irons are labelled Titanium Plus+. Not sure if I had the same shaft as it is simply labelled low torque super light pendulum power system. Biggest reason for change is that the shaft is slightly wider at butt end than normal (I think that was the idea of the pendulum) and in UK it is now virtually impossible to get it regripped, even Yonex UK were down to their last few grips
      When my local pro looked at my swing he felt the shafts in Yonex were not quite right for me especially in the woods as just too flexible. I have a stock regular 65g graphite shaft in the M1s but that is definitely a bit stiffer than the Yonex shaft. M1s are about a club longer for me than the Yonex's, give a slightly higher ball flight and I get a bit more stopping power on the greens with them. Pro did not do a full check on the specs of my Yonex but visually thought the lofts on the M1s were about a club less loft (ie M1 7i roughly same loft as Yonex 6i) - that would be consistent with the distances I get.
      Obviously the head of M1s is a lot smaller than Yonex. I find that the combination of slightly stiffer shaft and smaller head means I have gone from hitting a straight/slight fade with Yonex to hitting a straight/slight draw with M1 irons - although several lessons with the pro probably has more to do with that.

    This is the best golf-equipment channel ever in the history of youtube, thank you so much!
    What I wish to see, and perhaps a written answer is enough, is what some of the game improvement irons with lots of tech and cranked lofts can do. I have a set of callaway cf 16 and I hit them a long way. Sometimes way to long. But is it so that all the equipment with the tech can sometimes, when the stars align, give you extreme distances with no control? IE, I hit my cf 17 7iron around 180 yards. Which is longer than needed. But sometimes i hit i 195. Is it the club or just the launch monitor that freaks out? I have hear many people say the same thing, even on course, that this iron, sometimes gives you extrem distances due to low spin and all the tech. Could it be true or just nonsense?

    Bought a set of Wilson Staff FG-49 Tour Blade with traditional lofts. My 7 iron is 35 deg compared to my modern 7i (PSi) that's 31.5 deg. Sure I have lost distance but I have gained more distance control and tighter dispersion with the blades. That alone outweights the loss of distance.

    If anyone thinks tour pros don’t adjust their irons to a stronger loft are crazy. The only thing that should matter is if you get random “hot” or “flyers” off a short grass. Otherwise, pick the irons that fly best and feel best for you, identify your distances and go score the best you can. Practice, practice, practice!
    Thank you guys for talking about proper fitting, shaft, lie, etc... today’s clubs are designed to have a strong baseline out of the box, but tweaking the club to the individual is key.

Perhaps the modern 7 iron is a better performer for a given distance... shorter shaft length for more consistency combined with a better descent into a green.

    This is a big ask! but would it be possible to do a summary video on the various points to take into consideration when going for a professional fitting. I'm trying to consolidate the various pieces of information from the videos, but apart from knowing I'm likely missing something. I'm also wondering what order to approach a fitting, should I get a wedge fitting done before iron's or driver. During a fitting what should I be trying to get right 1st, Distance, dispersion, spin etc. I know the fitter should be fully knowledgeable but I've had some really poor experiences in the past and prefer to be fully aware. But dynamic loft is the same @ 24 deg, however Maura is 31 deg & P790 is 27 deg of static loft. So why would the P790 deloft by 3 deg & Miura by 7 deg at impact? Cheers, Ant.

His swing speed was much more consistent with the Muira vs. the P790 and it would seem to me that's causing more of the inconsistency than the club itself being "jumpy." Instead of having Matt trying to regulate his swing to the "wider market" maybe either have someone else swing full at a lower swing speed or better yet (cause I like Matt) have him swing full. I just can't get behind the conclusions of this video when swing speed averages may have been about the same but the std dev. was so much different. I think the recent Ping i500 videos show a bit better consistency in these "type" of irons when Matt swings full.

    For the past week before this video at a driving range, I've been testing P790 vs. P770 7 irons, all with a bunch of different shafts...
    KBS Tour FLT 120 (lighter, higher ball flight), KBS Tour 130, Dynamic Gold 105 Stiff, Dynamic Gold X100, Nippon ____?.
    I get the quick snappers that Matt does more often with miss hits using X flex shafts. I didn't find it was a function of the face at all.
    I'd definitely like to know why this really odd ball flight happens exactly. I didn't load the shaft properly?
    It's an entirely different flight than the same miss with a stiff shaft. Much much worse.
    It seems to me that despite having a borderline S-X flex swing speed, I couldn't really discern anything good coming from the X flex shaft. There was no added consistency in ball flight nor distance on my good shots or miss hits. And my miss hits were way worse.
    I've only started experimenting with shafts, just at a driving range that happens to have a Taylor Made demo cart.
    Shafts are big deal though. More important than heads arguably.
    I've been a near scratch player for 20 years, but the P790s made me feel like superman with how the ball rockets off the face.
    They are very easy to hit and miss hits do go further.
    Everything about them was better than the P770, except the feeling of a good shot, which didn't have that mushy forged metal feeling.
    Would really have to test it more to see how it affects my ability to work the ball the way I want to.
    With the right shaft and loft/lie set up, a lot of people will love these since they still have a blade-ish look to them.
    I needed the club 1 degree flat, and that changed my entire ball flight to an easy draw and took away my high push miss entirely.
    The million dollar question is, what type of numbers will you see if you bump Matt's Miura 6 iron to the same loft as the P790 stock 6 iron so both clubs have the same strong 6 loft set. That will tell you how the P790 face tech works to get that added distance, and just how much distance that is, everything else being equal.
    I bet you'd see lower percentage losses in ball speed on off-center strikes, which would translate into more consistent distances and smaller overall dispersions for most people with overall wider dispersions.
    Would be a good follow up video.
    I mean, why don't people just bump their current clubs to stronger lofts? ...
    Proper gapping, if you don't know what you're doing I suppose?!
    What is it about the P790 head (with the right shaft of course) that seemingly makes it a powerhouse? ...
    Flex face, driver CG characteristics with that low and back tungsten insert, etc.
    Are there other heads that look like the P790 and offer the same functioning, or do they all look more like game improvement irons than pseudo/semi/almost players irons?
    It seems to me that, Taylor Made just got smart, and figured out a way to make a game improvement iron look like it's a borderline players iron. And they did a damn good job of it.

    Hi guys, quick question
    I got fitted today into Taylormade p790 and they said I over performed with ball speed and height angle with still getting the distance, so we continue to try different shafts to see if it makes a difference, then I asked to try the 770 & I didn’t lose ball speed or height but little distance. They recommended that I get 790’s strengthen the lofts by 2.
    Would it be bad to combo P790s 3-7 and 6-PW in P770 and strengthen the lofts by 2 on all? Or should I just go with full set P790?

    • @chrisyoung9021
      @chrisyoung9021 3 года назад

      If I was recommended to get 790s modus 120T stiff, lie 2 degrees flat, loft 2 degrees strong.
      Would it be horrible to go 770’s modus 120T lie 2 flat, loft 2 strong? I am planing on working my swing to deliver the club with less loft as it is now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    what I learn is modern loft give more compression ratio. Therefore higher and more distance. Right?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  5 лет назад

      Lower loft will produce more ball speed, and generally more velocity leads to a higher ball flight. So these irons can overcome the stronger lofts in a lot of cases because they're delivering more ball speed which in turn increases peak height/landing angle steepness.

    I asked a fitter as to why Good players 7 iron Club lofts are normal (34 deg) and why are High Handicappers 7 iron Club lofts coming down in loft (28 deg)? he explained this to me. he said, “Most Higher Handicappers come into the ball with the face open as they try to scoop under the ball and doing this causes them to put more loft the club by 3 degrees doing this. However, a decent/Good player will hit down on the ball by about 3 degrees trying to squeeze it, thus knowingly de-lofting the club.
    So, if both players are playing together and they are both using a 7 iron, the High handicapper will change his loft at impact from 28-31degrees and the low handicap players will change his loft at impact from 34-31 degrees.
    This explains why most better players shy away from strong lofted clubs as they would make their 7 iron loft way too strong and their ball flight and spin rate would come down to much.
    Ironically, the high handicapped player playing with a more lofted better players iron would hit their shots too high and create to much spin, making them go less distance.
    It sounds like a viable answer, but what are your thoughts on this chaps?

  • @rickhall7127
    @rickhall7127 4 года назад

    Love your videos and this strong loft discussion but seems like you have missed the main benefit of this tech., you should have use a 7 iron in the TM for comparison...all numbers would probably be better, distance would be about same and Matt would have a shorter and for most of us a much easier club to hit??

  • @dkvalour3574
    @dkvalour3574 6 лет назад

    What would make sense is to test the both irons in the same loft. Clearly Miura 6 iron pergoms like TM 7 irons because of the specs. If you test a 6 iron compared to a 7 iron from the same set, 6 iron distance will be longer, spin lower, dispersion bigger etc. just as you found out from your test.

    So for the high spin iron players, that traditional blades iron with weaker lofts are going to exaggerate that spin potentially. Would it be inappropriate to have a bladed iron strengthened in lofts 1-2 degrees to control trajectory? Especially if the feel and look of that blade suits your game and confidence at address.

  • @chandlerbryan1793

    It's not an extra club in difference! The lofts mean that they are different irons, regardless of the number on the bottom. Your set still requires the same range of lofts, whether your clubs are labeled "3-SW" or "5-LW".

    The issue with lofts is one of gapping. What's the point in hitting a 5i further when its essentially a 4i or even 3i? Just means you need more wedges further down to the fill the gaps. Its basically like playing music chairs. You could have a 3 wood with 10.5° of loft and a 460cc head but that doesn't change the fact its a driver. Its just a marketing ploy really. Which is fine as long as people aren't being deceived.
    You want to avoid having large gaps in the distance you can hit your clubs not to hit each number further and further. What does it matter if you hit your "pitching wedge" as far as an 8 iron if it means you have take an extra two wedges?
