    Today I share the new Oris Aquis with the in-house Caliber 400 movement. I highlight the differences between this latest version and my own sellita based Aquis Lake Baikal. The new release carries a price premium over the current generation, and considering the upgrades, features, and changes. I think it is well justified. We talk the reasoning in this video. For those interested in Oris, Breitling, Tag Heuer, and other brands. Reach out to Richard below. Tell him Bruce sent you and you will get a great price-

    Thanks for this comparison Bruce! Can’t wait for the 30 day review! Getting My aquis 39.5 tungsten bezel about 5 months ago (my first Swiss watch ever) I’m now setting my sights on an omega dive watch. Even without the cal 400 this watch is crazy good. Cheers mate!

      There is problem with the new cal 400. The minute hand will jump randomly forward or backward when u push in the crown. Initially I thought it’s just a one off bad movement but I am wrong! Every piece I tried (4pcs) have this issue.

      Very disappointing, and I'm addicted to Oris. I checked 4 watches myself, The problem with the hand of minutes exists in everyone of them. And when I asked in ORIS. They say it's okay. And invent a method of cheap chinese watchmaking to overcome it. I think this is a serious problem. And they have to collect all the watches sold. And solve the problem first. In my opinion the mechanism as it is today, causes serious damage to the name of the company. And it make me sad.
      I have 14 watches from ORIS this is my favorite company. And it was all written with great pain. And I can not believe I'm writing this. I’ll will not buying it, until the problem is solved by the people of ORIS . with great pain, I gave it up.

      @@themaker1000000 it's how the movement works, this isn't a defect. it's because of torque on the gears, if you choose to set the time by going back in time before pushing in the crown it will not jump, because you release the tourque

    The Baikal dial is maybe my favorite dial. Its definitely up there. You can see it and immediately identify what it is. I love that. I really need to get one before they get too hard to find. I love how you talked about the baikal not having an in house movement or regulated movement in your review and now the caliber 400 is here. Great foreshadowing Bruce. 😝

    Like you have the bakal and really like it . I’ve owned many aquis so I’m a fan but personally it’s easy to get a deal on them so this is twice the price . Power reserve is probably not that important to most if you wear a watch constantly or rotate a large collection it’s of no use at all really . Even if you wear it for a few days leave it off for 5 the likelihood you are going to reset and give it a wind . I’ve owned over 100 watches and never had magnetism. in the event it happens it’s a simple fix so no drama 10 year warranty is only of use if your sure you are going to keep the watch long term . Moreover if you have a problem with a selita it’s fixed locally cheaply and probably within a few days .. In house you will have to send it back to the manufacturer and probably wait months for the repair . In real world Conditions this is probably of no advantage at all . A whole lot of garnish by the marketing boys to justify charging twice the price..i will stick with my selita variant...

    The Aquis is singular, brutal and not for everyone. That fume dial on your Aquis is what I would opt for. It is Oris' answer to the Seiko Monster. They sit in very different price brackets but the spirit is very similar.

    Hi Bruce! Been subscribing and watching your videos for some time now and I really like your reports.
    Purchased the Aquis with the 400 movement 2 weeks ago. The first day it came in to my local AD. Loved the package with the antimagnetic, 10 year warranty and service intervalls. Was a bit sceptic to the size, but as I read a lot of reviews of the Aquis that stated it feels smaller on the wrist I found it rather easy to wear, thanks to shorter lug to lug distance. I love the design of the Aquis! So many divers try to look like the submariner with a twist. Not my cup of tea. The Aquis design stands strong for it self. Time keeping has been very good so far.
    I really hope people are not being scared away from considering the Aquis w the 400 movement because one guy on RUclips has had trouble adjusting time on his. Remember the Tudor BB GMT had huge problems with date changes on early models and has chenged a lot of customer movments. But everyone just loves to love Tudor... Glad I have choosen something that is less mainstream! 😊 Keep on the good work Bruce! 👍 regards from Norway

    Big congrats to Oris for this new calibre and watch release! I'm really happy that they're finally stepping up their movement game as this was the only downside they had imho. I'm also happy to see that they chose the dial variation from the 'Save the Ocean' limited edition for the new Aquis Calibre 400 as it's imho the most beautiful Aquis dial out there until now!
    The only bad thing I see on the movement is that it's pretty big as most newer manufacture movements from other brands are as well (e.g. Tudor). I'm a little scared that this is the end of smaller Oris sports watches or that the smaller versions will keep the Sellita movements... time will tell!

  • @davidvaucher3395
    @davidvaucher3395 3 года назад

    Great video. Overall, very solid offering from Oris and good for them for following through with this project. I think putting this movement in their Aquis dive/sports watch will break them out of the mid-tier pack in a way their 11x calibre watches or even their ProPilot X just couldn’t quite.
    A few comments to add to the discussion though. First, I’m hoping/assuming a black dial and bezel version is incoming. Second is that I do think the competition between the SM 300m and the Aquis is stronger than implied (I own a BB and while it’s a great watch, the Omega and Aquis are more comparable I feel). That’s a testament to what Oris has done to raise their game and to Omega for making an effort to price aggressively; the watch community wins!
    Back on topic though, while I don’t want to imply that hundreds of dollars of difference is pocket money, it’s IMO marginal compared to the assumed life of the watch.
    If you look hard enough, you can find Omegas on a bracelet for a few hundred more, and on a strap you’ll be at the Oris price. If the price hike over the standard Aquis is justified for you Bruce, then I could make the same case for the bump to the Omega: you get a stronger brand name, nicer looking movement, and original, truly iconic design, as opposed to the Oris which while distinctive in its own way, is very much just a traditional-looking dive watch.
    That said, I think Oris will see some sales with this...

    I love the quick release strap on my Big Crown. Such a useful feature! It’s interesting to see where Oris are positioning themselves at the moment. Until now I’ve seen them as direct competitors of Longines, with this new watch they are going head to head with Tudor. That’s no bad thing, in that price range there’s no real competitor to Tudor, where as with the Longines bracket it’s getting crowded. Tbh if I had to choose between this new Oris and Tudor right now, I’d go Oris...objectively it’s a better watch with the power reserve, quick release, AR coating, ceramic bezel, anti magnetic etc etc. That’s not to say Tudor watches aren’t great but I do think they’ve got a little lazy over the last couple of years with lack of competition

    I’m a fan of the sandblasted industrial finish on the movement. It’s got the same industrial look as the Tudor MT in-house series. Will be interesting to see how the twin barrels keep time throughout the 120 hour power reserve.

      If you like the extra complication on the limited editions and the slightly more confusing dials then there is no wrong choice. It's totally personal. However you are getting the exact same watch as a normal aquis which I personally think is a little cleaner and neater in design. For the money, if you shop wisely you can get both, a nice deep blue and a green in the normal aquis preowned for the price of one. I've owned them all and it's better value. Just to throw you off, throw a Rado captain Cook 45mm on your wrist just for the sake of it. I did and bought it too.

    At £1600 the Aquis used to be one of the best watches pound for pound but now the new inhouse movement has moved the watch to £2700 placing the watch in Tudor or nice second-hand Seamaster territory so as nice as the Aquis is I think they may struggle.

    I’ve seen some reviews of the new movement that aren’t favorable. The power reserve is not as advertised and the minute hand jumps and requires wiggling of the crown to set the gears. That’s not great so I’d go with the Sellita movement and save money.

    Shame they didn't release it in a brand new watch... Its nice, but just putting a new movement in an old watch really doesn't highlight it or make it feel special. Too expensive given the competition for a souped up old model.
    Personally I really don't see the point of a date on a diver (if your memory is so bad you need constant reminders then you have problems!) & wish manufacturers offered date and no date versions. If it absolutely has to have a superfluous date function then 6 is the only place to put it. Cheers. 👍🏻

    While I do think this is an incredible release, I'm unsure how much it's really worth it. I think comparing AD price levels is not entirely correct, because you sacrifice very little by purchasing the Sellita model from the grey market. To benefit from the full 10 year warranty, you must get the new model from an AD and the price quoted in my area is 3150 EUR. A similar Aquis without the new movement, can be found brand new on the grey market, from reputable shop, for only 1410 EUR! Thus, the new model is, in practical terms, 120% more expensive. That's a lot and I'm having a difficult time justifying it.

    • @BruceWilliams
      @BruceWilliams  3 года назад +1

      I'll never play the grey market roulette wheel. Too many poor experiences from me. One one good one. Its just not worth it, especially when you can buy them from an AD for almost the same price
