A really magnificent watch, inside and out. At the end of the day it's hard to justify any watch over $1000 USD and comes down to personal preferences.

    • @private464

Exactly right. Once they have it for a while on the GREEN Aquis, I will go to the AD and try on both...and see...and decide which green one to get...and try them on again, and think about it, and walk out with one of them :) But that means I won't be getting the "regular" Aquis green for some time, but I have to wait to compare.

  • @ericgrace9995

    3 Points
    1: The movement looks incredible.
2: It's made the original Aquis a second choice watch. If I had recently bought an Aquis, with the off the shelf movement , I think I might be annoyed.
3: Why bring out a watch costing £2700 that is, to all intents and purposes, identical to a watch costing £1600 ? A "luxury" watch isn't solely defined by its mechanism. Finish, strap, clasp, polish, aesthetic all come into it. In all these respects, this is still a £1600 Aquis.
Status can be a factor in watch purchases, so it might have made more sense to bring out a new model as they're now in Tudor territory.
    Great review by the way...

They had to jack up the price to pay for the R&D of the 400 and used an existing model to save money. I have no problem with them doing this. The 10 year warranty and service interval knocks some of that original cost down. I also believe that ORIS’ fit and finish is easily as good if not better than the Tudor and their bracelets are sold and very comfortable.

@@DWilliam1 If you're right on that, Tudor has pulled off an incredible piece of marketing that has conned almost every U tube watch reviewer and millions of customers.
Until recently , Tudor fitted modified ETA movements into most of their models...as do Oris (ETA clones)...and yet Tudor has routinely charged a £/$/€ 1000 premium for equivalent watches that have equivalent movements.

Thank you, another thought provoking video.
I love my 10yrs old Oris, Williams F1 watch, I've had it 10yrs. and it still looks great, not serviced but still accurate to +6secs per day.
The new in house movement is the way forward, however, in my view it's a big negative to have it built by a third party, (any idea where it's built?) and still charge an Uber premium on the "In house movement"!
I always struggle with watch manufacturers who like to boast as being a high quality watch makers when they don't produce their own movements, (that makes them, to me, quality assemblers, rather than watch makers).
Re: the new calibre 400, is not the prettiest movement on earth, the Sellita 200 it replaces, to me is way nicer to look at.
In the U.K., the Sellita 200 retails at £150, fo the standard movement, and £250:00 for the beautiful skeletonised version, the The extra £850:00, the Oris designed movement costs, is asking too much of the purchaser to bear.
The hype around power reserve, to me is fairly pointless in an automatic movement, yes, in a manually hand wound watch, winding the watch say once every 5 days rather than daily, perhaps a selling point. ( that said, If I was fortunate enough to own an A. Lange & Sohn'e, or Breguet, I'd be thrilled to wind it daily!)
With regard to claims around magnetic protection, I'm in my mid 60's, I've been a committed watch nut for most of that time, in all that time, I've never had an issue with magnetic forces messing with my watch, this is current fashion, it's a talking point, nothing else.
Sorry, this has turned into a bit of a diatribe, it wasn't meat to be.
    Best.
    Stuart

I bought this about a year ago right around when this video came out, I'm just going to say I really love this watch. I have zero complaints. It's been running +/- 2-3 seconds and despite near daily wear looks almost brand new still after taking quite a few hard knocks. 😅

      @Jaypilot100 Год назад

I will wear mine for about 4 days and them take it off for about 3 days. By day 2 it's dead. I have never seen 5 days out of it. Have you had this problem? How much do you have to wind it to get 5 days or can you over wind it? Love it otherwise

    • @mercuriall2810
      @mercuriall2810 11 месяцев назад

@@Jaypilot100You can’t overwind this watch. If you wind it manually you will reach a point where winding further is not adding more run time to the movement, but continuing to wind beyond this point will not damage or overwind the watch.
The idea of an overwound watch is a myth. A manual wind only watch will not let you wind it beyond a certain point, the crown will simply stop turning. Once fully wound, the bridle of the mainspring of an automatic watch will start slipping in the barrel in response to further winding.
If you give your Oris a good winding after you take it off, it should be running when you go to put it back on 3 days later.

If the price is going to float into the $3000 +/- range that's going to be a make or break issue. I like my Aquis watches, but Oris is not a brand I'm ready to drop $3000+ on. The movement is an impressive flex but in my experience they need to bring up their Aquis bracelet engineering/manufacturing game (screws backing out and detaching Aquis bracelets is a common occurrence, and two of mine had this issue) and service game if they are going to be at near Omega pricing levels.

Nice looking watch , seems way too much$ for the in house design movement they're closer to an omega 300 m in pricing but at a tag heuer aquaracer quality I own both and like them both but you can see the difference in price and quality I would have rather seen a cos sw200 than a none, in house design movement with out such a huge increase in price

Love it! Will wait for the price to drop on gray market. Can get it from an AD online right now for $2950 USD, which brings a lot more options to consider. My Aquis Big Day/Date is simply phenomenal, however. More accurate than my Breitling, lol, despite only sporting the SW200. Great review.

It’s definitely a watch on my list I just got to stop buying $300 divers I would be able to afford one. I’m always a fan of an in-house movement it just makes her watch a little more special so that’s a big deal to me I have deep blue and other micro brands with SW 200 movements so what does that I spent less than a grand for and I have the same movement A watch costing five times as much makes it hard to pull the trigger on one

I'm one of the odd ones out. I really don't get the appeal of Oris. They are well made watches, but really don't do it for me. I'd much rather have a Rado Captain Cook (I tried an Aquis, a diver 65, and a Rado CC a while ago). This new one puts it in the vicinity of Tudor Black Bay prices. I'm afraid it would Tudor everyday. But as always just your money, your wrist, your watch

Great informative video. Love your work and unbiased opinions so thank you. In regards to the watch. Beautiful aquis as usual. Amazing colour, and now wonderful in house movement. It looks better than the seamaster, submariner and the Tudor. Gives the Breitling heritage a run as well. The movement is personal. If you don't mind throwing extra money away for bragging right, then go for it. Otherwise the original will certainly do the job just well for many years. There's no right or wrong. Whatever floats your boat. All the aquis watches are gorgeous. Always have been and wont make a lot difference. I love this new colour however but might wait a couple of years for a good second hand example. It's stunning.

Oris IN HOUSE Movement - Made by Another HOUSE??? but designed on a computer by ORIS! Makes sense the price increase is so much. they are paying the other HOUSE to build their computer diagrams.

A bit "top trumps", having the in house movement, tick. Having a watch that isn't quartz that you are not using running in the drawer, tick. Practically, the Selitta version is a good solid movement, parts easily available and cheap. It's so simple if you wanted to you can service/fix it yourself. I have a couple of Selittas and would be happy to stick with that option and the difference is enough you get a Delma Oceanmaster Tide a properly useful nautical watch.

I'm intrigued by this movement, but that is a big premium. I wonder if it would have been easier to swallow if it were introduced with an entirely new design, rather than looking exactly the same as the much more affordable one. For comparison, I have a Ball Roadmaster Icebreaker with their in-house movement. There is also one with a standard (modified ETA) movement, and the price difference is only a few hundred dollars. I admit it is not as fancy as the Oris 400, but it has an 80 hour power reserve, 28,800 bph retained, and is COSC certified.

Does it worth around 3500 USD? I think that's a personal preference, for somebody it is, for somebody it's not.....a thousands hours of development, a lot of effort, a lot of money, a lot of knowledge is inside that movement and that's not worthless for sure. Specs are....very impressive, 5 days of power reserve for an automatic is crazy completely....regulated to 5 positions....10 year warranty....that's really nice. I would like to get this watch for a present for sure. This thing is very legible, very nice and very tough probably, that's everything that it need to be, that's why it's built.
