      I have 2 Seiko turtles: one with the anthracite gray dial which I put an Uncle Seiko rubber chocolate bar strap on, and a "King Turtle" with the OD green waffle dial and ceramic bezel on which I put the steel bracelet from another turtle I used to have. I'm about to pull the trigger on the limited re-issue 6105. As you can see, I really like my turtles, LOL! You made a great choice!

    Wristwatches were never one of my thoughts until I was looking for a gift for my brother in law and stumbled upon your channel. I've become a big fan and I always enjoy watching your videos. I'm not an elegant person and not wealthy at all so most of the beautiful watches are out of my budget. Still I'm delighted to watch your videos and appreciate all the work you put into these. I know my brother in law will find a quartz watch more useful than an automatic but I feel like I'll betray you if I bought him a quartz haha.

      IDK why anybody would buy a watch with a integrated bracelet. Odd lug widths like the Diver 65 is another major pet peeve.

    • @manuel_winde
      @manuel_winde 4 года назад

      Phafanapolis I don’t mind an odd lug width as usually you can go up one and squeeze it on. It often looks better using a larger strap- my Seiko Mm300 looked great with a 22mm silicon strap as there was no daylight around the lugs.
      But an integrated bracelet is a big no-no- unless it’s on a Royal Oak or nautilus

    Great video; your camera work and precise diction are impressive. I love the look on this Oris Aquis. I find the circular markers on divers ugly and this avoids those. I would have liked red highlights to be extended from the pip surround to the second hand.
    I've lost my love of mechanical movements - servicing is too damn expensive and quartz offers far superior accuracy - so wish this came in a quartz version, perhaps at a reduced price.

Every other time when glows are taken off they pull the crown out, it's easy to miss and when you wash your hands water goes in! That's how I ruined my Seiko Chronograph. Urban Gentry videos are pure class and truly educational. Case in point: I have always admired the Aquis, but never pulled the trigger for the reasons pointed out in this video. I did, however, buy a Christopher Ward Trident 600 Pro based on a previous TGV review, and I absolutely adore that watch. Having watched this video, I am looking at the Aquis with new eyes. It is beautiful and, who knows, there might well be a place in my collection for another expensive (for me) Swiss diver. Thank you for these great, informative reviews.

    I owned the larger green Aquis (the very one TGV reviewed on this channel!) and it is an outstanding watch. I let it go mostly because I am a strap spaz and did not care for the integrated bracelet. I still appreciate the new Aquis models and this example is simply stunning! (I almost bought one myself) If any one is interested in an alternative of equal quality from a path less traveled, check out the Monta OceanKing. Equal depth rating, thinner case, beautifully applied markers, SW300 or ETA 2892 movement regulated to +/- 5 SPD (I think they are still doing this, my OceanKing runs at +3 SPD), and an outstanding bracelet with "glide-lock" type adjustment.

      I agree. I think Tissot make a sub $1,000 watch with a COSC certified movement so Oris should do the same. For a watch with such nice finishing the movement lets it down imo.

    • @Starstreak170
      @Starstreak170 4 года назад +2

      @Luis Baquerizo Nothing, but this Oris has the basic SW200 movement that can be found in less expensive watches. Would be nice if Oris used a higher grade that was more accurate.

    • @jacc88888
      @jacc88888 4 года назад

      Luis Baquerizo The Sellita movement in this watch is the bottom of the range: a solid but unregulated movement. Not what you expect in a watch of this considerably high price.

    • @jacc88888
      @jacc88888 4 года назад

      Luis Baquerizo Hi, regulated means that the movement had been adjusted for greater accuracy, normally adjusted in 3 or more positions I think. I need to do more research on the Oris 733 movement (using the base Sellita movement) - TGV on this video states that the 733 movement accuracy is between +7s or -7s a day which means perhaps it is regulated a little but certainly not to a standard which I would be happy with if i was spending a substantial £1,800 on a watch (UK retail price equivalent to $2,300!). For that price I would expect better and preferably Swiss Chronometer standards (COSC) of accuracy. As far as I know this watch is still available although it is a limited edition but don’t quote me on that!

  • @Mister_Phafanapolis

    Why do watch idiot(s) (savants) love Oris so much, especially the Aquis and Dive 65? They have fake iN hOuSe mOvEmEntS by renaming Sellitas, their case and bracelet finishing is basic, they do proprietary bracelets and straps and odd lug widths, they have a glut of similar models with similar names and confusing serial numbers, most Atelier models are rather ugly. Is it just because they're "Swiss" (and not Swatch) and can be had for less than $2,000? Why do people go gaga over these watches?

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  4 года назад +1

      Well, that is precisely what this video answers in fact.
      As for "watch idiot savants", not a fan of the derogatory term myself, I guess I don't really understand what that means.
      Thank you, always great to see your still commenting after all these years.
      Anyways, gotta love Oris, such an amazing brand. Sure, not every watch is a hit, but I would definitely say predominately good taste and excellent quality/value for money. The automatic calendar moonphase I pick up several years back for a grand is a prime example.

    I love the Oris, but outside of looks, the new 39mm Hydroconquest has the Oris beat in basically every single category from a pure specs perspective. Longer power reserve (not comparing the Calbire 400 Aquis here), much more accurate movement that for lots of people, I've heard anecdotally that it runs just outside of COSC which is crazy, better anti-reflective coating, silicon hairspring, customizable bracelet, etc.
    Again, anecdotally speaking, I've also heard of QC issues with some Aquis models where the bezel doesn't line up, or the applied indices are off. Never heard of any QC issues with the newer Hydroconquest models.
    Just food for thought.

    UG, a truly fabulous timepiece,and a truly fabulous video. Pure class, that's what you are. The Aquis 43mm hands down is my favorite watch, as Oris is my favorite luxury brand. Thank you for your dedication to the hobby. Question, have you ever considered doing an episode on Aragon? Not a "luxury" brand, but fabulous bang for your buck....

    Great review TGV! I agree with you, this is the 'most meaningful limited edition' out there. Owners should wear it with pride. I remember Aquis being a discussion topic at a South Korean online watch forum once. Someone made a very interesting point: Aquis actually has the best looking dial in the diver watch market, and people would buy Aquis instead of Submariner if both pieces were 'brandless'. I still think about that sometimes.

    That watch is absolutely stunning, and honestly has a bit more appeal to me than the modern Omega Seamaster from an aesthetics standpoint. I also love the clean ocean unique caseback aspect. Thanks for mentioning the 43mm option. Although I wear my 39.5mm Blue Alpinist with pride, I feel a dive watch should have a more tool-y/bigger presence on the wrist, and 43mm works perfectly for my 7.25" wrist, much like the 39mm works quite well on your smaller wrist. As usual, excellent review.

    It’s that sunburst girly crap that makes it a no for me. It’s just big watches for girls basically. They do have a nice vintage diver caliber 400. But it’s only 100m water resistance and at the price of a Tudor. So might as well just get a Tudor.

    I am thinking if I should just buy the non calibre -400 acquis for $3,012 (current price here in India through their authorised stores) or the Calibre-400 variant for $4.2k with 10 years warranty and much her charge storage capacity. If the current pricing was close to $2k I would have bought it immediately but seeing that I am practically nearthe pricing of a in-house movement variant and I am planning to keep this watch for the rest of my life I feel calibre-400 version would be the way to go. But I also feel that in either case one can't go wrong. Would have been nice if the acquis range included both straps (or at least with the adapter) instead of just doing that with the limited edition by default.
    I wish they had the Dat Watt Limited Edition with Calibre-400.

    This Aquis is limited edition and big disadvantage of that version is the thickness. it is way thicker than regular 39.5 Aquis which is 12.6mm thick. All because of that designer case back. This make that limited edition kinda out of promortion. Great watch though. I own myself Aquis but in regular 43.6mm size and can not wait to put my hands on 41.5mm which should be perfect size for my 18.5cm wrist.

    As much it is a nice watch, it has a sellita inhouse movement which is for the purists an average quality movement at best . For that same amount of money you could buy a nice Certina DS2 Super PH 200m from the early 1970's with the legendary caliber 25-651. But well to each their own. Other possible dive watch that offer a great value for the buck is the Jenny Carribean ref 702

  • @theoverlord1925
    @theoverlord1925 3 года назад

    The new 41.5 mm models are much better in size , 43.5 mm is too big and chunky. Their new in house movement with 120 hrs of power reserve is amazing and their dials and bezels are also top notch. The let downs in my opinion are : case thickness, it should be slightly thinner, polished elements on the bracelet, a sports watch/ tool watch should have an all brushed bracelet , and the lack of glide / type micro adjustment clasp like on the Omega Seamaster 300 m . Open case backs on dive watches are also a gimmick. Dive watches need steel case backs as they are a tool watch. You are not looking at an AP or Patek movement so enough with the open case back to view the “ pretty “ movement . I think it’s a ploy to save money. And the whole recycled rubber case back think, while a noble cause I don’t want plastic touching my wrist all the time at that price point . If you want to help the Oceans donate part of the profits to cleaning the Oceans or start a fund that invests money and uses the profits to clean the Oceans. Also I think Oris got too greedy on pricing, while the new in house movement offers a lot more I think they could have priced it in a more competitive manner. For that money I would rather spend a little more and buy a pre owned Omega Seamaster 300 m or Aqua Terra even if I’m not a big fan of the bracelet on the AT. I love Oris as a brand though , my first Swiss “ luxury” watch was on Oris BC3 40 mm back in 1998. I really love the look/ design of the divers 65 but their bracelets need improving and I think they are priced too high for what you get ; but that’s just my personal opinion .

  • @chuckschillingvideos

    I wasn't aware that was a thing - 39mm dive watches between $1000 and $2000. Seems like a category designed to shoehorn a watch or two into rather than an actual organic category of watches, if I might say so.

  • @Cattandbikes
    @Cattandbikes 3 года назад

    How good is that to know, that you buy a watch brand that doesn't make quarts s****(I got a prblem with quarts watches) don't make bags or belts, neither sunglasses. Good robust automatic swiss watches only.
    Along the years I became very personal with my watches, and my love for brands that purely sell their sol and capitalize it just don't make the cut for me any more. Brands like Omega that I use to love, now I can't stand, after going to their dealer in Westfield Stratford and found out they make jewellery and aftershaves, I thought "here we go again, another Cartier"
    So to summarise this, I don't know how important is for you, for a watch company to only make watches and true watches.
    But is there anyone ales true to their game apart from Rolex and Oris?

    Cool piece but that price tag is nudging Tudor territory and it’s a bit of a chunky piece. Even at 39mm the overall heft looks too large on your wrist. It’s weird how recent machine tolerances and developments on ETA workhorses are putting even non COSC rated movements into sub COSC tolerances. I’ve got a Tissot Gentleman running at a post break in variance of +1s per week and 80 hours autonomy. That’s frankly ridiculous at the price and performance that I wouldn’t believe if I haven’t experienced it first hand. Even sub tier brands like Oris and Tissot are knocking it out of the park these days. Just goes to show you don’t have to pay multi thousands to get a quality timepiece on your wrist and maybe this is the way things are trending ie better quality at a cheaper price.

    Hey! Is there some reason why the 39 mm Aquis is thicker? TGV, I think you said “statuesque 14 mm” in the video - I picked up a larger one in the 43.5 mm size a couple of years ago, and one of its appealing features is that it’s not very thick, a bit over 12 mm I think. Is it just the plastic insert on the back that made the one in the video thicker?
