Oris is the brand I chose after I got tired of Seiko Prospex and their various issues. Have not been disappointed, and my official AD gives me a great deal with Oris.
“It’s not by the way just in case you were wondering…” 😆. It’s a stunner. I of course don’t know enough to know what’s different about this one, but it’s gorgeous. Thanks! Congrats on the successful Ascent Presale!
Still have my green 39.5 mm Aquis from 2020. My first luxury purchase. It's been a great long term watch that I wear in rotation with Grand Seiko and Tudor among others. I like the new refinements. I believe these have a color matched date wheel where the old ones were black. I think for that price though, I'd be looking at another Tudor.
The whole watch market has gone bonkers. Longines Conquest is now £2k, it was £1300 a year ago (the outgoing model), let alone 10 years ago. Longines Legend Diver - 10 years ago perhaps £1200? Now, £3000! It's virtually the same watch, monochrome and largely printed dial. So here we are, Oris and Longines costing Tudor money.
Got my mint choc chip last week and it’s fantastic. Had more compliments about than any of my Tudors, Omegas etc. the NH 35 is gaining a second a day which is crazy for the money.
The cal 400 has too many problems. Main one being it is very inaccurate unless you retain full power reserve. The rotor is too light and uni directional and doesn't charge the watch sufficiently. If you want accuracy be prepared to wind it 300 times every morning.
Love Oris had a few, built like tanks, original case, good legibility and lume and you can usually get them under retail. Have the new cal 400 movement with 5 day. Power reserve. Great on the rubber strap.
Problem with Oris is their service center. In my experience, there's a 50% chance it will come back with an under performing movement and/or tons of dust under the crystal. So yeah, a 50% change you flip the watch after it's 1st service :D
At that asking price, even when adjusted with a discount, hell-to-the-nah. SW200 and a standard clasp for that? I suppose one must really love the design to justify it.
@@waynedennettYeah, but fully rebuild and regulated to create the B17. And at least for the older ones like A17360 you get 1500m WR, Helium Escape Valve and one of the thickest sapphires around...

@@drasiritzbir yeah all the watch prices going up unfortunately. I still feel oris offer very good value for their price point but the breitling does seem overpriced 😁
Greetings from St George Utah Jody I have not owned an Oris yet. This Oris looks top-notch,the green looks amazing, and I'm still debating about the movement, I like the 5 days of power reserve. I have heard good things about the 400 caliber. Thank you for reviewing this. Oris, here I come 😅.may be a could be the price.? Who knows is just me..until next time..
I like the refinements, but the little 39.5mm was such a sweetie, feels like a brother from another mother to the SKX013. I went with said “old” version for that size alone.
I own a previous generation Aquis and had a chance to check out the new models at the AD. The refinements are very subtle, but they add up to some nice improvements. One downgrade that I saw on the green model is that the bezel color is no longer a good match for the dial color. The dial color remains an intense Kelly green, but the bezel is a more yellow green, that I did not like.
I do quite like the look of these how you look down and it’s a bracelet coming out of a dial, I don’t have a luxury watch but can see Oris tempting me one day! Just need a lot more money first! 😂
With my large terrier, 3 year old and coming soon newborn I’d say I’ll have a farm of sorts anyway haha, but yes, “luxury” has never been a preference before for me really.
I've always liked this watch, especially in this Green. But... My preference is the Black Bay M79230B-0008 41mm with the white hand set, and matt blue anodised aluminium Bezel insert for a little color. STILL has the retro signed crown with the Tudor rose, Domed sapphire crystal, and Rivet bracelet... A modern / retro look(LoL), the best of both worlds. Yes I know it's more expensive, but I'm willing to save a little longer
for a few euro dollars more you can get their own in house calibre 400 - highly antimagnetic with a 5 day power reserve - can find them discounted if shop around.
I always feel the Aquis is up there with the Sub and Seamaster. I always wanted a Hulk but this in the green takes a lot of beating. Maybe that is now reflected in the price. I was already to buy one once then at the last minute bought a bronze 80th anniversary pointer, I often regret that. This new refined Aquis is very fine indeed.
Weren't Oris Aquis's around the 2500 mark? Unless you wanna die for an integrated diver there are far too many options you can get for that price-point... I just got myself a CW and am looking a Monta next, both are similarly specked and even better in some regards. Don't really get this pricing strategy since that lower end swiss market is really competitive.
Love ORIS as a brand and had a couple of pointer dates, a Propilot and three Aquis models but their prices are bizarre. Its just mean that the 'On the fly' clasp isn't on the Sellita movement version.
You missed - the case sticks out now between the lugs. The old case was almost a perfect circle. You can see it just jutting out beetween the integrated lugs.
The transition from lug to bracelet is fantastic and they seem to have decided to taper the outer polished links to go with the integrated bracelet trend but it is too extreme for my taste.
At their secondary pricing these are an awesome watch. At retail its not for anyone familiar with the watch world. For the new model, not a fan of the thinner hands. Colour match date wheel is a nice to hand. Not entirely sure a out that new clasp, will need to see it in person
For whatever reason, I've never been able to get excited about the Oris Aquis. I loved the Lake Baikal. It's the only Oris I ever wanted. However, it had a little too much heft for me and then shot up in price. They do seem to have a good deal of brand loyalty. Just does turn my rotor, I guess.
I love Oris but the aquis (outside if the ocean plastic one) never compelled me like the pointer date or 65. Tissot Seastar pretty much checks all the styling boxes and feel morre appropriately priced in my opinion.
I've been thinking about getting one of these as my next watch and in this colour, I fancy a swiss diver from an independent brand and don't have the money for a Rolex or Tudor.
Great review Jody. The devil is in the detail - I'd appreciate those refinements. I would have kept mine 43.5mm if it wasn't so chunky and heavy. The 41mm would have been a lot better on me, but got it years ago before knowing a lot about watches (funnily enough my first proper watch). What I don't like is the RRP doubling in the last 10y (only paid $1400 for mine new when RRP $1800). They get you on servicing and no supply of parts to 3rd party watch makers (plus send away to Melb 12 weeks) so I said never again. I don't think it even needed a service but it's recommended (and felt I should after 7-8 years). They only managed to get it to +10s/day, but sold that one :). Ps. Don't bother with the Calibre 400 - too new, too expensive, would have to wind it over 200 times to get said power reserve. Mine was running +17s/d so sent back to Joma. Very disappointing as it was very nice (although the rubber strap was a bit too dainty!).

No doubt, a nice looking watch. But it's also a perfect example of the question, "what is that money buying, exactly?" For $700 (or so), you can get a Direnzo with an SW200 too! It's good looking, (arguably more unique than the Oris), same movement, and similar quality. Though, I have honestly never handled a $1000+ watch let alone a $3900 watch, so maybe I WOULD be blown away by the look and feel, I don't know. For now, I'll stick to sub $1000 microbrands.....because I'm cheap. 😁
Man how are dive watches at this level not offering on the fly adjustment, and especially with an integrated bracelet considering you cant swap it out at all.
Interesting, second new watch I've seen this week with screw on crown guards, probably cheaper to make but looks crap and the customer doesn't even get the benefit of lower cost. I didn't buy one when they were cheaper, can't that changing.
Really disappointed they cut the 39. I had been excited for years for them to update the movement like in the larger sizes but instead they got rid of it entirely.
Love Oris but never been a fan of the Aquis design. It reminds me of the Seiko "bottle cap" or tuna and I always disliked those lugless designs on watches.
