Yeah, so it doesn't look new, but once you dig in to it a bit, they have made a whole bunch of small changes that add up to a more pleasant Aquis that sill looks like an Aquis. But are those small tweaks worth a 20% price hike? Cheers, Jody
Oris is the brand I chose after I got tired of Seiko Prospex and their various issues. Have not been disappointed, and my official AD gives me a great deal with Oris.
I’ve been looking at the prospex line, and am new to watches - what issues are common to them?
I remember how inexpensive Oris was just 10 years ago. I just can’t get past that knowledge.
If you only calculate inflation 1000 in 2010 is around 1500 today...
Exactly. Gray market prices now only
“It’s not by the way just in case you were wondering…” 😆. It’s a stunner. I of course don’t know enough to know what’s different about this one, but it’s gorgeous. Thanks! Congrats on the successful Ascent Presale!
I have a big crown pro pilot that was $1100 USD. I am very happy for that price point. Oris doesn't have the brand power to command Tudor money.
Agreed…
How sad that you're willing to pay so much more for nothing more than a name.
Saw it IRL a few weeks ago. I like its proportions
Really want this watch! Loving what Oris has been doing the last few years
I have the Caliber 400 in blue but wish I'd just gone with the standard Aquis in green - such a gorgeous watch
I would get a Saint Martin 😂 same looks and quality.. fraction of the price
@@snowrabbit9558That's because they use crap movements and rip off everyone else's designs.
Hi Jody! You should make a spinoff channel and call it, "just one more T shirt". 😁
Heheheh, he does have some great tshirts.
At that asking price, even when adjusted with a discount, hell-to-the-nah. SW200 and a standard clasp for that? I suppose one must really love the design to justify it.
Breitling want £4200,00 for their Superocean with a ETA 2824 ( basically a Sw200 ).
It's not great but that's the way a lot of Swiss makes are going 😕
@@waynedennettYeah, but fully rebuild and regulated to create the B17. And at least for the older ones like A17360 you get 1500m WR, Helium Escape Valve and one of the thickest sapphires around...
@@drasiritzbir oris also recieve there movements in parts and build them. Breitlings new superocean is also SW200 and not ETA. So apart from the chronometre grade SW200 why a 4200 dollar price for the breitling.
@@Sonny-wk8bf I guess it is worth what you are willing to pay. But i agree, the current offering is not what the Superocean once was..
@@drasiritzbir yeah all the watch prices going up unfortunately. I still feel oris offer very good value for their price point but the breitling does seem overpriced 😁
I love Oris! Definitely one of the best watch brands for the price.
Remove the bit about “for the price”. Because when you do in fact factor that in, they may very well be one of the best brands.
Oris are fantastic. Very underrated and worth a look when you get bored of a Seiko or want a great alternative to other Swiss brands
Starting my Saturday morning at work with 5c temperatures in Melbourne having coffee and watching another watch video from u 😅
You and me both 😊 bit nippy today hey?
Freezing! For Australia 😂
I do quite like the look of these how you look down and it’s a bracelet coming out of a dial, I don’t have a luxury watch but can see Oris tempting me one day! Just need a lot more money first! 😂
Don't spend your money on a so called luxury watch, buy about 50 Raccoons and start your own Racoon farm, its worth it man.
😂Yes! Do the raccoon farm instead! 👍🏼
With my large terrier, 3 year old and coming soon newborn I’d say I’ll have a farm of sorts anyway haha, but yes, “luxury” has never been a preference before for me really.
Nice; I will keep my CW with an adjustable clasp.
My wife tried the 36.5. She normally likes lass than 34, but the Oris looked great.
Greetings from St George Utah Jody I have not owned an Oris yet. This Oris looks top-notch,the green looks amazing, and I'm still debating about the movement, I like the 5 days of power reserve. I have heard good things about the 400 caliber. Thank you for reviewing this. Oris, here I come 😅.may be a could be the price.? Who knows is just me..until next time..
Lovely design, Oris 100% right not to change it much. One of the best dressdivers out there.
ORIS❤still on the list!
They make killer watches affordable luxury love my depth gauge.
Gorgeous watch. Very tempting
I've always liked this watch, especially in this Green. But...
My preference is the Black Bay M79230B-0008 41mm with the white hand set, and matt blue anodised aluminium Bezel insert for a little color.
STILL has the retro signed crown with the Tudor rose, Domed sapphire crystal, and Rivet bracelet... A modern / retro look(LoL), the best of both worlds.
Yes I know it's more expensive, but I'm willing to save a little longer
You missed - the case sticks out now between the lugs. The old case was almost a perfect circle. You can see it just jutting out beetween the integrated lugs.
I wish I could want an Oris. Cheers!
Really tried to like these and came so close to buying one a few years back. Opted for the MM300. These just look to flashy for a tool watch for me. The sunburst dial, polished pieces…doesn’t scream tool. I’d rather have the pelagos or BB58 as you pointed out.
What on earth is going on at ORIS ???? This brand used to pride itself on manufacturing quality mechanical watches at a reasonable price point now they manufacture quality watches at an eye wateringly high price absolutely ridiculous ….. I have 5 oris watches in my huge mechanical watch hoard …. So how much did I pay for these Oris guys well in the early 2000s everyone came in at well under 1K ….. so I ask again WHAT IS GOING DOWN AT ORIS ?????????
They are highly discounted at lots of websites from £2.2k to 1.3k, so if you do your research, you will be able the quality for the quality of a price ;)
Inflation since you were buying them 20 years ago thats whats changed. You might have noticed otherwise things have gotten more expensive also.
Great review Jody. The devil is in the detail - I'd appreciate those refinements. I would have kept mine 43.5mm if it wasn't so chunky and heavy. The 41mm would have been a lot better on me, but got it years ago before knowing a lot about watches (funnily enough my first proper watch). What I don't like is the RRP doubling in the last 10y (only paid $1400 for mine new when RRP $1800). They get you on servicing and no supply of parts to 3rd party watch makers (plus send away to Melb 12 weeks) so I said never again. I don't think it even needed a service but it's recommended (and felt I should after 7-8 years). They only managed to get it to +10s/day, but sold that one :). Ps. Don't bother with the Calibre 400 - too new, too expensive, would have to wind it over 200 times to get said power reserve. Mine was running +17s/d so sent back to Joma. Very disappointing as it was very nice (although the rubber strap was a bit too dainty!).
For whatever reason, I've never been able to get excited about the Oris Aquis. I loved the Lake Baikal. It's the only Oris I ever wanted. However, it had a little too much heft for me and then shot up in price. They do seem to have a good deal of brand loyalty. Just does turn my rotor, I guess.
This is the first Oris I've actually liked, with a delicious colour. My wallet thanks you Jody😜
it looks like my Tissot Seastar 1000... mines green... but flairs to black
The transition from lug to bracelet is fantastic and they seem to have decided to taper the outer polished links to go with the integrated bracelet trend but it is too extreme for my taste.
I love Oris but the aquis (outside if the ocean plastic one) never compelled me like the pointer date or 65. Tissot Seastar pretty much checks all the styling boxes and feel morre appropriately priced in my opinion.
As an owner of a purchased from new Oris Aquis 2020/21 Great Barrrier Reef III limited edition, what I would most like to know are these two things: 1) can anyone over age 40 read the date display?, and 2) How long does it take for a Scotsman living in Australia to abandon his caricature Socttish accent due to the inevitable, constant pee-taking from the locals??? Answers on a postcard please as I'm a keen Philatelist
I think if you hit 10yo with a Scottish accent, it is there forever!
Beautiful,,,,, too bad its not a GMT for $3900 ??????? ,,Tudor I think is a better value for the dollar
The lume pip (in the lume shot) seem slightly to the left, just the angle or misalignment?
The old rolex trick gotta bust out the calipers and loupe to check out all the new features
Problem with Oris is their service center. In my experience, there's a 50% chance it will come back with an under performing movement and/or tons of dust under the crystal. So yeah, a 50% change you flip the watch after it's 1st service :D
I’m not even a fan of green, but very nice. But still not a Tudor - they need to drop 20% and go after Longines.
Nah. The cal 400 is every bit as good imo
@@mariog7213 Except the cal 400 isn't in this watch
i think also the bezel was better on the older version after i tried them both at a retailer
i actually never noticed the "PRESSURE RESISTANT" text. Now it bothers me :P
Love Oris but never been a fan of the Aquis design. It reminds me of the Seiko "bottle cap" or tuna and I always disliked those lugless designs on watches.
On the fly adjustment should be standard at this price without exception. Add in a bog standard sw200 that can be found in watches selling at a quarter of the price. Where exactly is the money going? I point blank refuse to be milked for grotesque profit.
Bog standard! You do know that watch movements come in more than one version, right?
Bezel misaligned?
Nice watch but what does it offer over a Christopher Ward C60 at half the price.
I've been thinking about getting one of these as my next watch and in this colour, I fancy a swiss diver from an independent brand and don't have the money for a Rolex or Tudor.
I have 2 of the previous Aquis 43.5. The bezel isn't very good at all. A lot of wobble. Feels like the bezel on a $250 watch.
Kinda like them, but always hated those hands. Thanks for the review.
The numbers font on the bezel look different a little from the last gen. They look bolder.
It’s a little pricey for what it is. Over £2000 for an Aquis is a deal breaker for me
I bought mine for just over a grand (though that was 7 years ago)
But you'll buy a Tudor for more I bet.
Very conventional time pieces. Nothing to write home about.
hello can you tell us about the brand edox independent Swiss watchmaker from 1884 which invented the double seal of the crown for waterproofing no one talks about it.
A display case-back on a $4k watch with the movement decoration of a $700 seiko…. Why?
I have been saving for one of these, but price hike, no on the fly and bezel back play mean Christopher Ward looking more like getting my money.
Go for the previous one - they were discounted after this year's release and initially priced less.
Oris called for you, they want the Kermit Keyring back !
Man how are dive watches at this level not offering on the fly adjustment, and especially with an integrated bracelet considering you cant swap it out at all.
I am begging them to make the Aquis with full brushed bracelet
My first ever video that I viewed on watches was you doing the skin diver and I loved the retro styling
Never got one 🙁
Like blooming gold dust
Does it really wear smaller? That's arguably a pity. 35mm is borderline, but that stylised bezel easily makes that the pick of the bunch in my opinion. That said, there are other Oris watches I'd pick before an Aquis and I don't see that changing soon.
The new aquis in 41,5 doesnt have the new features on the 400 modela. Not at least accorsing to their websitr. Only sellita powered "new" aquis available. And as such the new clasp is also missing on those which annoys me a great deal. The watermelon versions they released today are also bizarre, though I actually like them.
Interesting, second new watch I've seen this week with screw on crown guards, probably cheaper to make but looks crap and the customer doesn't even get the benefit of lower cost. I didn't buy one when they were cheaper, can't that changing.
I like it - but not enough to buy it.
They need update with caliber 400, no date, and adjustable clasp
I don't want to know how much they're charging for the model with their in-house caliber... that's such a wild price for an SW200.
Oh dear. Price. Compare the Sinn U50 with tegimented tech thinner, 500m depth and SW300 movement for about the same price.
Circa £2k, no on the fly adjust?
What year is it?
No doubt, a nice looking watch. But it's also a perfect example of the question, "what is that money buying, exactly?"
For $700 (or so), you can get a Direnzo with an SW200 too! It's good looking, (arguably more unique than the Oris), same movement, and similar quality. Though, I have honestly never handled a $1000+ watch let alone a $3900 watch, so maybe I WOULD be blown away by the look and feel, I don't know.
For now, I'll stick to sub $1000 microbrands.....because I'm cheap. 😁
Really disappointed they cut the 39. I had been excited for years for them to update the movement like in the larger sizes but instead they got rid of it entirely.
If I were in the market for a generic looking Swiss divewatch, I would probably rather pick a €800 Tissot Seastar Powermatic.
It's a very nice watch!
It has diver extension, why do you complain about not being able to adjust on the fly
Nice looking watch, looks very similar to my mk3 Christopher Ward C60
i like your t-shirt!
Oris did a Rolex
Incremental change
The cal 400 has an on the fly adjustment
But the price is getting up there for all their models
It's beautiful , but not $3,900 AUD beautiful. I love the ORIS Crimson Dail Big Crown .Must re-visit that one's price just out of interest.
I really like the case re-profiling but I’m disappointed they haven’t incorporated a tool-free micro-adjust into the clasp, like Oris’s peers and more affordable micro-brands have had for a quite a while now. Also as you said…the lume and bezel action should be better.
I feel like they ask too much for a watch with a SW200... At least put a SW330-2 COSC grade or something like that.
I was in the same debate and went with a HydroConquest from Longines. It's cheaper, and has a WAY better movement than the SW200.
I have no idea how in this day and age they can get away charging that amount. Its not even worth half imo
As I said, I'm not sure if anyone actually pays retail......
@@JustOneMoreWatch No. But but they are advertising at that amount and 20% off is still insane, no? I just wish you were able/willing to be more critical of these brands, especially now that you have your own watches being produced. ( Yes I understand there's a difference in part picking Chinese builds and "swiss" assembled, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere, and for common sense to finally sneak into this ridiculous hobby).
A C60 from cward shits all over this for half the cost, with best warranty, if you're wanting swiss.
I just don't get it.
How does your Cward shit all over oris? I am very curious.
@@Sonny-wk8bf Same movement, better warranty(3x), better case finishing, better bracelet, better lume, half the cost, shall I continue?
@@iTzGODZiLLA you are delusional. Good luck with your cheap watches 😁
Yes
Bezel color doesn't match the dial color very well.
Dial is gradient so not sure they should match.
While it doesn't match all that well, it's not terrible compared to the bezel insert on the Hulk Submariner, which is considerably worse off, and that's a watch costing many times more.
@@Barbecuejag They shouldn't match 100% but this bezel looks more like olive green. I disagree that the Hulk is worse.
That bezel turn made me laugh as the sound didn’t match the video as I watched. Should’ve added substitutes to the twist! 😂
Never does! I have to record the two seperately 😂
@@JustOneMoreWatchShould’ve spell-checked my comment! It might’ve been wittier if it said “subtitles” rather than “substitutes”. Not funny enough to begin with then you throw in misspellings! 😂
Damn that's pretty.
An Oris Aquis was the start of my watch downfall. Ten years on, I still have it.
I’m sure it’s just me, but the environmentally friendly packaging is a turn off. It makes me think the packaging is cheap and won’t last. I would rather have a nice leather box that will last forever.
We do not believe this to be a good value proposition. Nice watch, but waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too expensive.
next to the submariner and the blackbay, it's the most handsome diver imo
Looks like a Chris ward
Never jived with this line of watches: too angular and chunky for me. I really don't think any element of this watch appeals to me. It's a lot of money for a dive watch with a Sellita in the back of it.
The backplay in that bezel seems a bit much at that price point. Abuse on sample?
My Oris Aquis is one of my favorites. Yet I never wear it. Make sense? Nope...
The green one I am in love with but I cannot spend the money on it when i have a Rado Capt Cook in green, a Citizen Fugu in green, Alpina Alpiner in.... You see where all of this is going.
This video though gets the itch going again... Darn you!!!! 7:58
Too much green. To bright as well. Green needs to be subtle so you have to look at it to see. Bright Orange yes bright green not so much.
Hello
First and ten points!
Is that top shelf level?
Three different greens on one watch, though. :(
Cpt cook it’s much better that oris
Do they do a brushed version in the Aquis ?? Polished lookes nasty 😅
...a watch, made from asia parts, with a SW200, for € 2.380.- ... are they mad??? 🤣
No way worth the price of a Tudor.
AUD 3,900 for a watch with a AUD 200 movement ? no thanks
Only 40 hours power reserve and no on fly adjustment. Save up a bit more and buy a something like a Tudor.
2.5k to 2.7k for a standard sellita with a back mineral glass. LOL what a joke this brand has become.
Mineral glass on a 2500 dollar watch in 2024?
Save yourself some money and buy a Sinn
3900 🤡 wonder what it does in euro!💶
Way too expensive for what it offers. 1000usd for the watch at best, rest is for the brand name. Very generic looking. Would pass great as a retirement gift.
Womp womp that’s what all watches are mostly brand name and value than the actual watch.
You sound like a butt hurt seiko owner. P. S they're disposable
Totally agree. That colour way isn't that new nor that design... I kinda like it but I'm probably consider it for below 500 bucks... 😂
Love the Oris, had 3. Built like a tank, original case shape, way better than a Seiko at similar value. Great lume and legibility. Wears well for its size. Not the most exciting colour variation that one. In the hand, quality. Prefer on rubber.
You would spend 1000usd on a watch with no brand??
i’ll pass on this.
