    I love Oris, and I have the Aquis in my sights as my first luxury dive watch. I appreciate that they're still independent and have full control of their own destiny. You're right in that the Aquis model is one that is a lasting design and really only needs refinement to keep it fresh. I also agree that offering the Aquis with both movements is a good approach to attracting buyers at different pricing levels.

      You're making an excellent choice if this is going to be your first proper watch! It's really hard to argue with what you get vs what you pay with an Oris for sure.

      Some people like to hate on Oris for the value proposition, but I never thought it was that bad. Plus, I think the integrated bracelet design for a diver is super cool, especially for smaller wrists like mine!

    Love Oris, I've the BC4 Retrograde Day. The Sellita SW220 is keeping within +15 seconds a month, that's way above any so called COSC certification. It's now coming to 9 years old and has never missed a beat.
    I was lucky, got the watch for £650, second hand in mint condition.
    In house, meh you're paying in most cases for extra fancy finishing, certainly not for any increased accuracy.

      I hope you’re right, but I’ve seen the old models going up in cost along with the new model.

    I just ordered a new Aquis 43.5 in blue. The blue I keep seeing looks like a nice subdued dark blue. The blue Aquis in this video all look dramatically different. A much brighter and more youthful type of color. Which looks quite nice. Now I’m wondering what the heck my watch will look like when it arrives tomorrow! We shall see. In studying over the last week or so I have come to realize how many different watches Oris is offering for this one model. It’s unbelievable! There are four or five different sizes, many many different colors of dials and bezels and combinations there of. It’s unreal. This is going to be my first Oris, I have no idea if it will be my last. I recently purchased my first Longines. I got the Spirit Zulu time in blue. I am certain that will not be my last Longines.

  • @OneLordeAnimeClips
    @OneLordeAnimeClips 7 месяцев назад +12

    I think that Oris is in a tough spot. They have to compete with Tudor who offers officially certified, in-house Chronometer and even METAS movements now, at nearly the same price, along with Longines who offers nearly the same specs as Oris in their divers, with essentially in-house movements, at a lower price-point.
    These are great watches no doubt, but at the $1500-$3000 range I typically look at Longines, and at $3000+ I typically look at Tudor. Oris needs to carve it's own space here somehow.

    • @dorningarts

      @OneLordeAnimeClips 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@dorningarts Yeah you can get the Selitta caliber Oris divers for about $1700. That isn’t at all the one I was talking about.
      The ones with the Oris Calibre 400 in-house movements retail for $3700 and grey market is around $2500-$2800. Considering a Tudor Black Bay can be had in the same ballpark, I would pick that over the Oris any day of the week.

    Good improvements. I just went with a 733. 120 hours doesn't matter. As I have quite a few watches, they always die after I switch. A fully supported balance bridge would have been a better feature. However, the aquis is a great watch. Highly recommended

    They're very smart in keeping the Sellita. Because the Cal 400 was more than a bit problematic when it launched. As an owner of a Dat Watt LE, I'm considering a second Aquis... but wouldn't want a 400 due to that reputation.

  • @astorbeijer9424
    @astorbeijer9424 7 месяцев назад +1

    The only change in the Sellita models that I like is that they finally are using color matched date wheels. Hallelujah!!!
    Reducing the size of the hands and markers is a huge negative for me. As an older person, one of the things that attracted me to the Aquis is that it's so easy to tell the time. This is partially due to the sizing of the hands and markers. Most of the other changes are meh.
    On the other hand, the on the fly adjustment clasp and the quick release straps on the 400 calibre are wonderful changes. It more than annoys me though that Oris only made these upgrades available to this who have the $4,000 to buy a watch. What ever happened to respecting their fans? Does Oris honestly believe that the people who've been supporting them all these years are people who can drop 4k on a watch? They would have been buying Omegas back in the day for that much money. These are options available on watches that cost $500. Why does Oris think these upgrades are only worthy of their upmarket customers?

    • @nilxnull
      @nilxnull 2 месяца назад +1

      The underside of the case and lugs has been sort of trimmed. I went to a dealer today to try it on my wrist, and it's a lot bigger difference than can be shown in a video. I have the older aquis, and this feels a lot thinner. The ceramic bezel slopes a lot more, and the case underside is trimmed, so it looks thinner, although in reality, the case height with glass is a few tenths of a millimeter thinner. The flat lug top surface also protrudes a bit more from under the bezel. The crownguards are stretched out horizontally and the crown is thinner as well. Different geometry on the straps, different indexes and alpha hands as well. Different colors. Overall looks nicer, feels lighter and thinner. I'm actually thinking about selling my 1yo model with the steel bracelet and getting a rubber strap. Feels balanced and not top heavy even though the bracelet should kind of balance weight. Also don't trust the colors on Teddy's videos, it's all under immaculate lighting and with boosted saturation.

    • @paulsmithchannel
      @paulsmithchannel 2 месяца назад

      @@nilxnull thanks for the reply. Would you say that the updated version improves wearability, as in it hugging the wrist more. I've heard in the past that the Aquis "wears smaller." Does the new design enhance this?

    • @nilxnull
      @nilxnull 2 месяца назад +1

      @paulsmithchannel On the rubber strap, it definitely feels smaller and thinner than before. It always wore smaller than 41.5 mm would suggest, now even more so. I guess it's a similar feel on the metal bracelet, but I didn't try it on the new version.

    Ilia kvalito ne estas malsupera al tiuj grandaj luksaj varoj. La fortikeco kaj atento al detaloj rivalas kun la originalaj dezajnistsakoj kaj mi ne povas kredi kiom mi ?paris. ?i estas la perfekta akcesora?o por iu ajn moda knabino! Mi certas, ke mi rea?etos iujn aliajn stilojn kaj kolorojn ? nkuwan por kongrui kun miaj vesta?oj kaj ?uoj!

    They’re just ungodly expensive for what they are
    The pro pilot is a great looking watch but not anywhere near worth the asking price

    I hate the taper on these. Its too aggressive of a taper. I like a slight taper, not this crazy taper on the bracelet. One of those features we are repeatedly told to enjoy, but no, I don't like it.

    Why do they taper watch straps? Its ugly and feminine looking. A mans watch should have no less than a 22mm lug width without tapering on the band.

    12:21 Re: "luxury product": I'm afraid I cannot recognize anything luxurious about it. It's just an average mass-produced industrial product, lacking anything unique, innovative, or premium, except the price.

      The price was already high, they don’t hold value and you can buy on the grey market 30-50% lower than retail price, and they increased the prices AGAIN asking 4.2 grand, are they legitimately dumb?

    Stop reading your words! Too fast for a good review. Sounds canned

    Maybe it's just me but I just can't get to like this watch. It's just too simple and plain. I also don't like the fact that it's a perfectly round circle.
    To me it just looks like the cheap knock off watches you find on Amazon.
    (Just talking about the look of the watch)

      I held them in person and they really don't feel like that. The Aquis isn't for everyone, but in the hand they absolutely feel like a luxury product.

      @@stevens1041 That's fair - maybe I would change my mind if I held one in person. I don't know much about the quality, just judging the look 😅

      I have three different Oris watches and ALL are quality, I REALLY wouldn't have bought the 2nd/3rd if i didnt think this) unlike some 'knock off's' ive seen, you really can tell it's a swiss luxury watch, unlike some other makes i've purchased and returned....
