There are apparently ways to simulate the atomic clock signal, such as some mobile apps that will actually play a high pitched tone that somehow carries the signal. I've never used them but they might be worth a shot (and a video!)

@@annikinstarkiller600 Pretty amazing. When I first heard this I expected it was BS. But looking at the frequencies used (40kHz to 76kHz), there are plenty of audio DAC's which support sample rates that are more than high enough to reproduce a 40kHz tone.
Obviously it would be the EMI from this that the watch would be picking up, in order for this to work (as opposed to the modulated audio artefacts we might hear). The speaker voice coil (or PCB trace to the speaker) would essentially be acting like an antenna.
Software Defined Radio with a "High-Res" DAC! LOL

That's really nice. Most Astron's we get here tend to be a bit too much for my liking but this is perfect. It's a shame we don't get the radio control feature in Australia and why is it we don't have access to an atomic clock via such a service? Makes us look a bit like a backwater lacking what the rest of the developed would has. Maybe you could do a deep dive into that system and even why we can't have it here. Maybe the watch fam needs to start a petition up to get it here? Also wearing my MAS again today. Such an amazing watch and would love to see some more videos on them as its great to support a small aussie microbrand.

  • @Bob_Smith19
    @Bob_Smith19 8 месяцев назад +1

Received mine about a week ago and it’s been on my wrist ever since. Was able to get a perfect fit on a 6.5” wrist. This was really surprising but one of the reasons I haven’t taken it off.
It picks up the radio signal, in the US, every night as long as I place it on a window sill. Masonary home construction prevents receiving the signal otherwise.
Like all titanium watches the weight makes it feel “cheap”. But it’s certainly not and the lightweight allows it to disappear on wrist.
It’s dressier than I normally wear. There are a lot of polished edges on the case and bracelet. No lune doesn’t matter. It befits a dressier watch.
I have a Casio S100, and T200, and like the Seiko better. Case size and weight are main reasons. No integrated bracelet is always a plus. The issue as/ the Casios is they don’t pick up the radio signal if you have it paired to a phone. If you don’t connect it daily it doesn’t sync.

Considering this or the non Astron version with the same movement, the SBTM341 (Edit: Which also has lume!). This is the in between of a SUR319 and a GS 9F, which I’ve been looking for for ages. And it actually exists! This is just about my dream watch. Personally I’d rather have this than most expensive Swiss mechanical watches. A 9F in this style would be cool too, but I want a do-it-all piece that I won’t have to worry about getting a bit scratched up, and that won’t potentially take half a months salary before taxes to replace.

That style of pattern on the dial that you're calling wiggly lines is referred to as Guilloche (phonetically pronounced gee-oh-shay) which traditionally requires what's called a rose engine lathe to make but I doubt Seiko would or can use that traditional method because of it being cost prohibitive and it probably wouldn't work with a photo transparent material that's necessary for the function of the solar cell.

Since i got a titanium solar citizen, all my other watches haven't left the case. It's near perfect

Asstron is a good name for Seiko.
Jody. When are you gonna wise up and take a hard look at some of the Orient Star watches? Outdoor? Basic Date? 1964 2nd Edition?

It was a bad idea watching this video lol. I've been looking for a titanium blue dial watch to pair with my titanium Citizen Exceed and I was supposed to be waiting for the gps Astron to go on sale/get discounted.

Important note that most Citizen Chronomasters don’t have lume, either.

But they're five-grand Citizens you can only order on the internet from the other side of the planet. Free pass therefore.

Citizen Lineage radio watch is my choice here. It feels good when you don't have to mortgage eating for a couple of months!

Looks great and love it, but I am not sure if I would choose this over the Oceanus S100, which is much cheaper

There should be clear line drawn between Astrons which are GPS controlled + Solar vs what is in this review. The expensive ones you should say are GPS controlled allowing you to press button anywhere on the planet and with few seconds watch will adjust its time. They are brilliant piece of tech and definitely worth the high price. They are also completely different level than radio controlled one versions from this review which only use radio control in spots where it is available and not adjust time to any chosen time zone.

I just got my first gen Astron serviced. Seiko North America charged me $407. The watch was gone three months (actually very good compared to Swiss brands).

I will add that the Diashield works great with the titanium and the ceramic never scratches. In addition, the regular Astron watches get satellite updates anywhere on the world, and mine has a separately setable clock one can set to another time, both hours and minutes. It also has a power reserve. Mine is also massive, but light weight. The watch looks great, and has no scratches since 2014.

Please help, I am about to sell my Astron because I simply cannot understand how the watch does it’s daily time adjustment automatically. I feel stupid walking around outside under the open sky waiting for it to happen. I have read the instructions. I’m tired of holding the button down to make it happen.

Owned one. Didn't catch the signal for 3 days. Without signal it was terribly inaccurate to my surprise. Wasn't happy with the finishing either. Very disappointed, returned it and swapped it for a Tissot.

So you can pull out the crown and adjust the watch to a new time zone simply by turning the crown? That's revolutionary! :-D
