I found it highly amusing watching you talking with your hands reflected in the watch's polished surfaces.
Good work spelling out that the content is not paid, and that you have to send the watch back. Your integrity is admirable.
I also feel that at this price point, it should be a COSC Certified watch, or at least have been regulated to within an inch of it's life by Oris staff. Doesn't make sense to me at this price point, though I do love this watch.
I again agree regarding the colorway.

I dont know man, COSC certification isn’t common ground in this price range. Better regulation I agree though. At around 3k I expect within at least 7 seconds a day. And at 7 I’d be slightly disappointed

Beautiful watch! Also I like the GMT marking on the dial in addition to the GMT marking on the bezel insert: means you can get 3 different time zones at a glance! Personally it is a very useful feature: local time where I am, time at Office and UTC time for worldwide business purpose. However, wish the price would be somewhere less...

My oris gets more compliments than any of the rolex watches. The bracelet has the perfect bling and is a size I wouldn't normally buy but on wrist it was perfect. There is a big crown pointer and gmt in my near future. 2700 usd but usually can catch on sale at 1800 roughly 30% off.

Over a 100 years of watchmaking, yet they got the GMT function backward. A bit like CW making their upper dupper special edition titanium dive watch, and then proceed to print the bezel backward... except they didn't charge 3.8k for it. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate the functions of the watch, too many reviewers drone on about the look of the watch(as if we didn't have eyes to see), yet don't even cover the basic.

  • @urieelSEptim

i think the gmt hand is not lumed because the 24h-markings are not illuminated, so it would be more of a guess to which number it points.

Came here from the Formex Reef via the Oris Aquis 41.5 video!
I like the Aquis, but I don't LOVE the Aquis. The case is just too round. I think I prefer a more square case, like the Divers 65 has with its lugs. It's the same reason I gave my Oris Formula 1 Williams, to my Dad!
If I was getting a GMT I would get the Grand Seiko SBGN003 (sadly discontinued 😢), or the new V3 Pagani Design Explorer 2 with black dial and Seiko Movement. I'd set it to Australian time so that I would know what time it is in JOMW land.
What I really like about Oris is the fact that you can register your watches on their website and see them all in the 'My Watches' section. This could really help in the event of a burglary or such like. I wish other brands did this. It would be cool to see them all in a collection on screen.
If you own an Oris with those funny screw pins; get the dealer to use some 'threadlock' or similar to glue them in place. If they fall out (like mine did) it's a right faff getting a replacement. Luckily, Oris didn't charge me on that occasion.

Perhaps a slight mental shift is required for GMT “divers”. The history of GMT’s was more tied to Pilots and Adventurers. Basing the watch off of a diver was perhaps to make it the most rugged watch they had for the various activities these people would encounter. I hear many RUclips watch review were’s complain about polished surfaces on GMT’s but if you look at an international airline pilot and his lifestyle he’s more likely to have an upscale world to circulate in. So a polished GMT is a proper tool for an international Pilot. The Glycine and Rolex GMTs were made at the request of aviators. Instead of thinking of them as dive tool watches. It makes more since to think of them as pilot watches one could dive in when in a coastal town.

Regarding sizes for the Aquis, what's written on paper isn't even close to how the watch actually wears. I normally wear 40mm watches, so I thought the 39.5mm Aquis would be the better fit. Went to an AD, tried it on, and I could have sworn I was wearing a 36mm watch (even asked the gentleman at the store to measure it for me to verify it was indeed 39.5). The 43.5mm on the other hand fit so well.

I don't know what happened with Oris prices, they went from reasonably affordable to over priced in my opinion. Two years ago you could have got an Oris Aquis for $1000 ( or less) now they're $1500 grey market to $2000 AD. Way over priced considering the movement, and the proprietary straps and bracelets limit your options.

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 5 лет назад

Watch industry hype is what happened. More and more companies and ADs are realizing they can take a bigger profit margin on their watch sales, and people will buy. There's are plenty of people with expendable income in all price brackets, and with watches taking off more than ever before in my opinion, it's not surprising this trend is occurring.
Hell, not too long ago, you were able to get a Rolex sports watch for not too much more than the price of a new Oris Aquis today.

Contrary to your notion that the bezel can’t be used as a timing device with regards to your complaint that the GMT hand has very little lume ... the bezel on this Oris is a 120 click bezel which in fact can be used as a timing device. I’m very surprised (in a good way) that this watch has a 120 click bezel being the fact that most (if not all) other GMT watches only have a 24 click bezel. Oris definitely innovates and think’s outside the box. It would have been nice to see you go further into the GMT functionality of this watch with the mention of this unique bezel. They have another Oris model called the Oris Big Crown ProPilot Worldtimer in which the bezel can be used to quickly set the time in one hour increments which I’ve never seen on a watch before that model came out either.

a bit late to the comments, considered this the Tudor BB GMT and the aqua racer GMT. Choose this although the Tudor is a proper quick change GMT and better movement. Really because I like the inner 24 hour bezel and smaller GMT hand. The blue dial is amazing the Tudor a bit plain , although the aqua racer has a lovely dial to, but big GMT hand and no small 24 hour bezel .
BUT i also got the Oris in a sale for £1500 so half the price of the Tudor and £1000 less than the Tag . Money not the overnight factor but important and the dial of the Oris is the most impressive of the 3.

My complaint - the GMT hand shouldn't be the non-hacked adjustable hand, the hour hand should.
The way it should work: set the time of the GMT and the watch hour/min hands to local when at home. Then, when you land, adjust the hour (non-hacked second hand) to local time. The minutes and seconds aren't disrupted, and 1 or 2 clicks, and you have local on the watch and the family on the GMT hand.
To do that on this watch, you have to change the time, with the second hand hacked. Make sure you re-set the minutes properly (off your cell phone, i guess). Then, re-adjust the GMT hand back to home time. What a pain.

Can you show us the back of this Rolex clock on your wall please? Which movement is used in it? Best regards from Brazil, Mário.

When timing a dive at night, I only meed a pip and a lumed minutes hand. I have never dived with a watch that had a fully lumed bezel. Dive watches, for me, are only a backup for a dive computer anyway.

Jody you talk about asking for discounts on watches like this from stores etc. is it a stupid question to ask what sort of percentage we should start with when we look at this situation? There is a ORIS AQUIS DATE (GREEN) local, $2700. No one talks about how to buy these for from a retailer on youtube. I'd never by online I need to touch it wear it first for this sort of money.

Thanks for this review. I was just researching Oris watches a few days ago and had put this watch on my to-buy list. But good to know that there will likely be more color combinations in the future. I appreciate your review. Thanks! PS. I liked the Rolex Wall Clock too. Very nice. :-)

I really like the looks and specs, but +14/day is way out for a watch at this cost. I've got cheap Chinese movements that are way tighter. I do wish the lugs were more universal.

Hmm, I actually rather really like the blue/black on this watch, as well as all the polishing - on the contrary, if it were brushed, it would look far less impressive and kinda boring. I'm pretty sure that most people that are going to buy this have many other watches to wear and that it probably wouldn't be a daily piece, or at least one that wouldn't see any kind of real abuse. I do agree on the lack of lume on the GMT hand though, that was dumb to keep it off of there. They sell for much cheaper on the grey market here in the states though, so that's kind of a positive lol

The lack of lume on the GMT hand is particularly perplexing since they only outlined the tip of that hand in yellow. Why wouldn’t they fill in the color if the white center isn’t lume filled? I liked the yellow color, but thought it looked washed out/overpowered by the white fill.

I love Oris and they are one of the brands that got me into watches.
I own the aquis in the same colour scheme, a rectangular moon phase and a f1 William's.
I bought my aquis with bracelet and rubber strap (best ever rubber strap) for £800 so I just don't get the price of this. I also think this gmt version is not as good looking as the original.

But is it any better finished than the Christopher Ward? Same movement? Much, much cheaper. They even have a model similar to the Oris 65. A bit difficult to defend Oris pricing is it not. I know that you have a relationship with an Oris dealership now but come on, what's your thoughts Jodie?
