- Oris was founded in 1904 in Switzerland and remains one of the last independent watch companies. With more than a hundred years under their belt, you can be sure Oris knows how to make a great watch. Their slogan is 'real watches for real people' and I think it perfectly sums up what Oris is about: excellent quality at a reasonable price. The fit and finish is absolutely stunning, and the overall design, while recognizable, is still uniquely Oris.
I was looking for a good alternative to the watch I had been saving for: the Rolex Submariner in their "hulk" configuration. Something about that green dial and bezel is just so different and special, its not likely you'd see one throughout your day even in a major city.
So when the 2017 Aquis was announced I set my sights on the rare green configuration. It took some searching but I finally found one for sale in new condition and snagged it.
With sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, and display caseback, all the good stuff is there plus a few extras like a vanilla scented rubber strap!
The only con I've ever heard about the Oris Aquis is the odd lugs which won't accept many aftermarket straps like a NATO. Luckily the Aquis is available with a steel bracelet, rubber strap, or a leather band.

I have just turned 50 and it’s tradition in my family to get a watch for your half century. My wife bought this beautiful exact watch in green on the steel bracelet. I love my watches and have five ‘luxury’ pieces. 3 Omega, 1 Ball and this. I can’t believe how right she got it. I love this Watch so much two of the Omegas have gone up for sale. Everything you said in this video I agreed with, its subtly over engineered and slightly under the radar. Love it. My favourite watch.
The Oris Aquis green is my grail watch. Just the SW200 one is fine. Just so well made and Oris has an incredible heritage. Your Wife picked the ideal watch!

The Aquis is a solid watch with a unique design. A very good choice for a rugged mid-tier watch. You don't get much more when you move up to the next tier. You will rarely see other people wearing this watch in the real world. Depending on how you feel about being a little different, this could be a good thing. I am that kind of person.

One of the nicest watch reviews I have ever seen. I really like the way how passionate you talk about this great watch and how you mention other things like memories and why you choose this watch. Two months ago I bought this green Aquis with the metal bracelet and I really love it. Not only I talk as passionate about this Oris as you, I also share your opinion about how great it is that Oris makes really good watches without extreme prices, just by letting Sellita make the movement and put the focus on other stuff.
I have been an owner of a 2010 Omega Seamaster for the past 8 years, but still I went for the cheaper brand Oris for my new watch. I like the philosophy and honesty of this brand. I mean, for this price you get a watch with the best saffier crystal and ceramic bezel. The way it looks is so nice, so high end. Oris is a great brand.

Just bought my Aquis Big Date 45.5mm blue dial with a dark blue rubber strap..absolutely outstanding watch & that gorgeous blue dial looks amazing when the light hits the face!
Picking mine up today, red strap, can’t wait.

I have a 6” wrist and i bought the 43.5mm, it doesn’t look big for my taste.
@@stockbore yea I have tried them on in the 43 and the lugs deff help with slimmer wrists. Mine are 6.25 so 39 will be perfect
Always liked Oris. They have a nice selection and are not a one trick pony. Very underrated like Zenith and Jeager Le-Coultre. Will be getting the Aquis soon. Tissot Seamaster Powermatic 80 is also good value. Nice review and good advice too.

Leo Sigman I suspect the high level of photography might because Oris' marketing is somehow involved in this review, they have an interest in this review. At least that's what the photography and the commercial hype here screams to me.

Oris strikes me as a brand that has high quality and, when you look at the watch market as a whole, affordable prices. I've never had the chance to expierience one but everyone who has one seems happy with it, certainly a medium term goal for me.
You nailed it: high value and you’re not paying for a name. I rather like that not many people know the Oris name and it’s less a target for thieves.
True about the thieves, you also don't get the "is it a fake one or a real one?" question which you could get with a Rolex.

I just bought the Clipperton blue dial version this watch. Absolutely gorgeous! Glad it has the rubber strap. I don't like metal bands. I still wear my G-Shock GW9300 for outdoor work and play, but this Oris is on my wrist the rest of the time. Great video!!
I'm a total Oris fanboy now, I think they're the best bang for the buck out there! The blue dial is beautiful, if I had the money I'd have one in every color.

Hi Carl, while I’ve seen a number of your fine videos, i just stumbled across this review of your new Oris Aquis Watch with the beautiful green face. Ironically, I am in the market for a new watch and and am zeroing in on a green face watch with a leather (or rubber) band. I’ve found an embarrassingly reasonable priced Citizen watch which can be found on sale for just over $200.00. My point is, I can certainly relate to your interest in a particular aspect of a watch such as its color which doesn’t impact its functionality. I think you selected a great watch and hope you get many years of use and associate it with many fond memories such as the time with your son during and after his birth. Congratulations on the birth of your son, and your new timepiece.

i have same aquis with metall braslet,silicone strap is really cool,but i like heavy watches)))payd 1200$,in tel aviv,on my opinion,this watches is best choice for this range...it looks a lot more expensive

The Glas on the back is mineral glass.
I was at an Oris Store in Switzerland.
They explained that it's because of their philosophy. Low Premium Segment Watches for affordable prices. So they have to go with external movements and mineral glass on the back for price reasons. Another thing is, the glass on the back normally isn't exposed to shocks, no way of damaging the glass, so why using sapphire glass anyway!?

I purchased the Oris Aquis Staghorn Restoration LE and the Oris Aquis Matte Black on Leather Strap this year. I found prices I couldn't say no to on both (essentially paid the retail price for one and got both brand new). Both super beauties. I want to purchase the rubber for the Staghorn for hotter weather next. Great vid. I dig the green and if I can find it priced right, I'll be getting one of those as well.

I dont know if this is a coincidence or not, but massdrop just posted this watch in black and blue! The green is amazing though and kudos for wanting to get something different. I also have such a weak spot for green dials. Congrats on both the watch and your son- but more your son! Maybe the Oris will be his one day!

Great review! Congrats on the birth of your son. I’m actually in the market for a new watch. I’m in between the Breitling Colt Skyracer and the Oris Aquis Source of Life. I’ve always wanted a Breitling but I just absolutely love the look of the Source of Life.
That’s a tough one! I agree that Breitling has some gorgeous models (and their headquarters is in Connecticut!) which are very well built. I don’t think you’ll be unhappy with either, but that’s a tough decision!

Nice review of the Aquis! I bought a Clipperton LE last month, but am waiting until my September birthday to open it. (Argh!) It sounds like you have experienced more expensive watches in the past -- how do you feel about the quality of your Aquis in comparison to the Rolexes that you have worn?
The finishing and refinement isn't quite on par with the Rolexes I've owned, but is definitely in the same league as Omega. That said, I think that to tell the difference you'd need to have handled each extensively, but even then I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost. I do love the fact that Rolex is built entirely in-house and has a very special place in horology, but owning one certainly has its downsides too.
I've come to realize that I enjoy my Weekender as much as my Air King and begun to question what "value" really means.

Yes the green aquis next purchase.Ive have the bigger version with the small date 46mm with the rubber strap that vanilla scent when i open my watch box is just perfect( time and effort) should be Oris new saying.

I love oris watches
Oris and Breitling are my two favorite independent brands. They aren't in the houses of (Swatch, LVMH or Richemont.) Breitling is my fave followed by Oris.
I prefer the older molder. I bought it a while back and I still love it.

Carl Murawski i am already loving it and i haven’t physically seen it, my purchase was strictly based on reviews and company history as i was debating between an oris or omega seamaster but felt the seamaster was too professional for my daily usage

I agree on all your statements! I have. Few Citizens, they’re fine, quite beat up & need work on the crystals to make them look respectable again. I’ve been wanting the original oris diver date for years. Then this green came out with a ceramic bezel! I’m actually now open to a few alpina models & Sinn (slightly out of my price range). Yet as much as I keep looking at alpina, Sinn or a Longines Hydroconquest, I keep wanting the oris more. So right about having it for years. I get excited to think I can pass this down to my kids (when the wife & I have a few) as a family heirloom.
I want to look further into Jomashop with Affirm however I have a local jeweler that carries both alpina & oris. They’re a great company too.
What do you think of the Longines HydroConquest & the Alpina Seastrong?

I freakin loved this freakin review Carl especially the part about your son thats so cool congrats there is no greater blessing or gift from God like a son. I just got this watch and I literally can't take my eyes off it just like you said about the color (explained very btw) its both black and green depending on the light hitting it in fact when I first opened it I thought it was black I thought to myself oh boy I've got to return it and go though that cuz they send the wrong color. Then I walked over to my door and looked at it in the daylight and was supersized to see IT WAS GREEN lol anyway very cool review bro.

Nice watch! I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a Oris Aquis Red limited edition, managed to find a new one at an AD nearby. Although it has the 'things' you didn't like as much as on this one, but Im curious about your opinion on that one!
I think the one you’re referring to has a red seconds hand and red strap? I think it’s gorgeous. Oris has this unique way of using colors in a subtle way that looks classy and understated. Please let me know if you get it, I’d love to know more about how it looks in person!

Great review! I didn't know anything about ORIS until recently. But when I took a deeper look at them, woow what a value for money. The colours they are using on dial - amazing. I am seriously considering buying myself one. Although it's going to be blue one. I am not there yet to wear a green one :)

As I'm about to make my first attempt into entry-level luxury, I'm seriously considering this one but was also contemplating of getting the 62MAS inspired Seiko SPB14X series. I don't dive but has always been leaning towards dive watches because the extra water resistance offer some sort of assurance that I don't have to worry much about getting them in the water.
Putting budget issue aside, do you think I'll be a lot happier with this instead of the SPB?

Love the review. Such good information for those who are not watch enthusiasts. It is one of those watches for those that feel a Rolex is genuinely out of reach. Don't try and save up for that amount if you honestly think the cost is offensive. It is 70% of the sub. I've since got a hulk and if I'm honest, I've got it because i felt it was an opportunity to enjoy it and hold on to it. My Oris is almost on par with the Hulk on accuracy. So....is it worth it? Is it only worth it if I want to sell it on? I love the Oris. Looking back, is the sub worth it?. It's only ok if a sub means nothing to you and you can "get over" the Hulk, otherwise, it will never replace something that is only 30% "not quite as good".
I even prefer the Oris green. Have fun deciding. Try on the Oris. It really is so good..
I never heard Rolex stopped production on the Hulk...it is still listed on the website..
Amateur question - what happens when the power reserve is exhausted? Do you just wind manually, or do you have to reset the time too? Thanks.
Personally, Oris is much better than Rolex.. To me, luxury means Audemars Piguet royal oak, Patek philippe nautilus or Vacheron Constantin overseas chronograph..
Rolex is in demand by man in the streets who have a habit of flipping it, that is the reason why there's lots of used Rolex in the market..

I've worn both and recently ordered the same one reviewed in the video. The oris is much more solid. It's simply a better watch in my opinion, especially if you're a bigger guy.

Rolex did not discontinue the hulk it's just hard to get.
