The Rolex store was empty and had 3 men guarding the entrance. The whole process of trying on a sub felt like I was in the police station. The guy was arrogant and wanted my license. A total turn off.
Oris is better then the sub, it only misses the brand reputation. I prefer the Omega Diver 300m, a little more expensive then the Oris, but it is Omega...
That date sub is one of my grails, but I can’t afford it. However, I did just recently pick up the Aquis caliber 400. It will be here in a couple of days!
I have the pleasure of owning both. 41mm subby and the Aquis. It's the Aquis for me every day of the week. Not because it's better, But because it looks better.
I used to love the sub but after seeing so many homage watches, I went with the green Aquis in 39mm. So, my solution was to go with a green Oris Aquis and a Tudor Black Bay 58. Still had money left over.
I have several Oris watches, and always recommend them to people. For me it's a case of buy both. The Oris can be your watch until the Rolex arrives. And when the Rolex arrives you'll probably still want to wear the Oris anyway!
As an Aquis owner I love the watch. It's gorgeous and is a great watch for the money. My only gripe is the thickness of the watch. I would not recommend it for small wrists
Can’t believe the made the sub more than 40mm I was hoping the trend to get over huge watches was over...I have 7.5 wrist and will always wear watches no larger than 41 bit a sub should never be over 40 and a Day Date should never be over 36MM
Just picked up today the 2024 Aquis Great Barrier Reef Edition 4 - incredible, beautiful zero buyers remorse, only 2000 are made so a bit of rarity thrown into the mix. The dial is simply magical - as close to sun rays filtering down into the depths of the ocean as you can get without doing it live.
I love my Aquis. And I have a 16610 Sub. From a distance (youtube) I can't tell which of these two is the better watch and I *love* it. Now I can compare my two and the Aquis is a........
Out of the two watches reviewed, the Oris beats the Rolex hands down on looks easily…… The Oris watches watch face is just stunning 🤩 making the Rolex look dowdy and ordinary. I will be buying one very soon, thanks for the review.😁
This comparison just shows even clearly that Rolex is overpriced. Glad i sold mine. The misaligned bezel and noisy rotor on my Sub turned me off. Feels like a cheap watch. Bought it brand new from an AD. Can't believe the quality is just mediocre considering the price tag and all the hype. My other watches are better.
Haha good one... First, this comparison doesn't show anything.. Tudor blackbay would've been the direct competitor to the Oris. If Rolex watches have mediocre quality like you claim, then why would Rolex have 23.4% of the luxury watch market. It can't be just their brand name and image! Second, You've nothing better do in life than go to Rolex videos and tell everyone how much you hate them! Such a miserable sod you are.
@@jswede1 thanks for pointing out my flaws in English, it's not my first language btw, and I know I should've wrote secondly. I must say there is some truth to this. The first time I put one on I was expecting more. I think you only get that feeling with a hefty precious metal model.
I have no time to even both to respond to you Nicholas your a Rolex troll and personally I'm Six of you. I have the new 41mm LN and a Ten year old GMT Black. Both excellent in time keeping and quality. Oh and I can sell both for considerably more than I paid for them New. Try that with your ORIS. Which is a fine watch by the way. It's just not a Rolex and never will be. By the way I'm not a Rolex fan boy I have eleven watches and only two are Rolex and my favorite is My Blancpain Bathyscaphe ceramic Blue.
Great video with information that wasnt so readily available on even authorized dealer websites! I appreciate the thought and work that went into this comparison, thank you!
After doing alot of research I got myself the Oris, as my first "real" watch. But I had to give it back to my AD just a week later due to not staying within the -3 to +5 sec per day. Hoping to hear back from them next week with some good news about it.
Really? It has mine since the beginning of January 2022 and it has been inside of +2/-2. Usually I’ll check it with my phone on Monday mornings at most of the time it is a bit better then -5. I usually give the crown 30-50 spins every 3-4 days; not sure if that is helping or not but less the -1 second a day is better then I world ever expect for $3000
It's nice to see a video where the enthusiast picked an Aquis (or any other watch) over the Sub. No hate on Rolex though. I think it set the standard and forced other brands to up their game. Great video.
Having owned both the Oris 400 and the 114060 (which hey, is close enough), I feel that the Sub is the better overall watch in almost every aspect, except warranty. But is it twice as good a watch (MSRP), much less four times as good a watch (grey)? That'd be a tough sell to anyone who doesn't have their heart set on a Rolex, irrespective of cost.
I would love to own a Rolex...perhaps one day....not willing to pay secondary price....I would get the Oris for sure....seems like a good buy....and probably pre-owned...great presentation as usual...
Love everything about my Sea Dweller. Love the style of my Breitling Avenger II Sea Wolf…. but absolutely HATE its ETA movement! How does this Oris 400 movement measure against the ETA’s?
I own an Oris Titan C on the Oris rubber strap along with a Rolex Deep Sea Sea Dweller and I must say the Oris gets the most wrist time. It is such a great watch.
I have the blue GMT and I can assure everybody that the quality is very good. I have compared it with the Rolex Submariner and the bezel looks as expensive as the Sub. Side by side the Rolex doesn't look 6 times more expensive
I bought my aquis in 2012 and now i bought the 124060 both in black dial.. the aquis was my daily beater for more than a decade and i don’t plan on retiring it either. My sub will be just for date nights and mancom meetings.
You get a hell of a lot of watch for what oris charges. Love my aquis sunray cherry dial watch and hope to add a cal 400 to the collection soon. I ware my oris if i buy another i would ware and enjoy it as well pass it on to my kids. If i bought a rolex it would sit in the bax to wait and sell when i could get a profit on the investment.
I disagree with the idea that the submariner supply will be made “dear,” they literally make hundreds of thousands of them on an assembly line, they are much more popular. Buy one and you will meet tons of people who have the same watch. With the oris, you will never come across another oris owner
The supply is restricted with rolex. They could sell more. But they choose not to. It gives the illusion that they're popular, and they are, but the restricted supply just makes suckers like you want them more

@@anthonyonline4740 I was simply saying that Rolex makes a good product but that the genius of Rolex is really their incredible marketing. They take a good product and convince everyone that it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. People are jumping through hoops just for a chance to get one. I love your videos but I completely disagree with the Submariner being more exclusive. Subs are hard to get at retail prices but there are millions and millions of them out there making them about as exclusive as a Casio F-91W. Nothing wrong with either watch but not remotely exclusive
Since I'm reviewing these exact references rather than Subs and Aquis generally and for all time, the Sub 126610 definitely is the more exclusive of the two. Best, Tim
Polbox the fact they are hard to get, makes them exclusive. It's literally the definition of the word. Lol. Just because you think it's cool to be exclusive and you don't like rolex, dosent mean they're not exclusive
For me if you look past the investment value and brand name, its a no contest now that Oris has raised its game with the movement , so technically its a much closer contest. The whole cyclops idea is hideous and can't understand why the look of the rolex is so compromised by placing such importance in seeing the date that clearly. Obviously designed for divers that not only have bad eyesight, but cannot just raise their arm to get a closer view. Cant be many that spend days underwater either. Am sure others would disagree and see this idea as keeping alive some classic styling. But only my two cents, the Oris streets ahead on style wow factor

The Oris - a tank in watch form and despite its size - will fit most wrists. It also looks supreme.
Oris all day. As soon as some different colorways come out I'll looking for one (I already have a blue diver)
The red is gorgeous
Sold my Rolex Explorer and bought an Aquis - cleaner dial - hated the cyclops and extra hands on the Rolex - too busy - no regrets
Well said
I used to love the sub but after seeing so many homage watches, I went with the green Aquis in 39mm. So, my solution was to go with a green Oris Aquis and a Tudor Black Bay 58. Still had money left over.
I can't believe how nice most of oris watches are. They make some sick drive watches.
Excellent video and I agree with your verdict. When you strip out the investment and status components, the Oris is a better watch for the money.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen the Sub presented in a way that explains its value. Very impressive piece.
this video should have been made with the 41.5mm aquis
I would buy the oris as well. Been a fan of the brand ever since I purchased the chronoris.
I have several Oris watches, and always recommend them to people. For me it's a case of buy both. The Oris can be your watch until the Rolex arrives. And when the Rolex arrives you'll probably still want to wear the Oris anyway!
I prefer the Oris for all that you stated and that the Rolex, although a fine watch, is uncomfortably small on my wrist.
What a return!
As an Aquis owner I love the watch. It's gorgeous and is a great watch for the money. My only gripe is the thickness of the watch. I would not recommend it for small wrists
With a few more tweaks here and there the Oris is a Rolex in the making
The Oris Aquis 400 is a great watch.
I am excited to see the future Oris watches with the new 5 day movement.
Thanks for the help with the video. I'm just on my way to get an Oris.
@@omarion07 your “second“ statement says a lot more about you than it does about Nicholas.
@@jswede1 thanks for pointing out my flaws in English, it's not my first language btw, and I know I should've wrote secondly. No it doesn't, he's a troll that's been coming to every Rolex video just to hate on the brand.. Imagine if I went to every Omega video and said Omega's of cheap quality... would that not make me a miserable sod?
You too, huh? Mine is running between 8 and 9 seconds fast a day.
Really? It has mine since the beginning of January 2022 and it has been inside of +2/-2. Usually I’ll check it with my phone on Monday mornings at most of the time it is a bit better then -5. I usually give the crown 30-50 spins every 3-4 days; not sure if that is helping or not but less the -1 second a day is better then I world ever expect for $3000
Love this!! Tim, you rock!!!
I'd own and keep the Oris Aquis. I think it is a fantastic timepiece.
Versus is back!
I bought the Rolex for my 40th, now I’m 49 and wear an Oris and Omega. Sold the Rolex a couple years ago.
Great informative video. Thank you!
Fast and accurate information, say no more👍
Love everything about my Sea Dweller. Love the style of my Breitling Avenger II Sea Wolf…. but absolutely HATE its ETA movement! How does this Oris 400 movement measure against the ETA’s?
Nice video, audio is a bit muffled though
I own an Oris Titan C on the Oris rubber strap along with a Rolex Deep Sea Sea Dweller and I must say the Oris gets the most wrist time. It is such a great watch.
I have the blue GMT and I can assure everybody that the quality is very good. I have compared it with the Rolex Submariner and the bezel looks as expensive as the Sub. Side by side the Rolex doesn't look 6 times more expensive
I fancy the Oris
I love the aquis in 41mm and in black/dark grey. On my next purchase list! Great video!
10 years on and I still LOVE my Oris Aquis gen 1
The new Oris line up is amazing, not just to mention they really help the coral reef life around the world.
Excellent video
👏👏I love ❤️ Rolex Sub and Oris watches!
I bought my aquis in 2012 and now i bought the 124060 both in black dial.. the aquis was my daily beater for more than a decade and i don’t plan on retiring it either. My sub will be just for date nights and mancom meetings.
More VERSUS please
You get a hell of a lot of watch for what oris charges. Love my aquis sunray cherry dial watch and hope to add a cal 400 to the collection soon. I ware my oris if i buy another i would ware and enjoy it as well pass it on to my kids. If i bought a rolex it would sit in the bax to wait and sell when i could get a profit on the investment.
This man is way to eloquent, very nice
If a stranger asks if your rolex is real, I hope you have the common sense to say no.
No nonsense Oris ✊
Tim, you could start a watch Olympics hahahhah
Awesome review!
Oris vs Tudor would have been a better match for the comparo, IMHO
No Oris !
Nice 👍 video mate
You will not go wrong with an Aquis. I love mine
I disagree with the idea that the submariner supply will be made “dear,” they literally make hundreds of thousands of them on an assembly line, they are much more popular. Buy one and you will meet tons of people who have the same watch. With the oris, you will never come across another oris owner
I actually have 2 colleagues that wear oris, and nobody out of 90 people in my office wear a rolex.
The supply is restricted with rolex. They could sell more. But they choose not to. It gives the illusion that they're popular, and they are, but the restricted supply just makes suckers like you want them more
@@anthonyonline4740 Rolex makes a million watches a year on a production line. They have genius level marketing whereby everyone is convinced that it is the best. There are boutique watch makers that make far better watches than Rolex but most consumers will just go with the default choice. It must be said that Rolex do make good watches but the genius is in the marketing.
@@almac9203 I don't know what point you're trying to make, but ok
@@anthonyonline4740 I was simply saying that Rolex makes a good product but that the genius of Rolex is really their incredible marketing. They take a good product and convince everyone that it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. People are jumping through hoops just for a chance to get one. When I first went to buy a nice watch I only considered Rolex because I was convinced by their marketing that it was some handmade masterpiece of haute horology. I now aspire to get a fifty fathoms because I learnt that there are better watches on the market.
Purchase the Oris and use the rest of the money for micro brands.
Best,
Tim
Not gonna lie, the Glideloc is very important to make small adjustments.
however, are you telling us that Rolex's "Stamped" clasp is somehow "better" than the Oris milled clasp? 👀
More like this please Sir Timothy
