  • Often missed TD04 turbo boost leak. Leaking boost robs power & economy. A turbo diverter valve leaking is easy to DIY repair or do a diverter valve replace.
    Need a replacement valve? Here's a 'stock' replacement. I've ordered one myself and will do a review
    bit.ly/TD04_BPV_stock
    Here's one from Kinugawa to replace the stock item
    bit.ly/TD04_BPV_Kinugawa_stock
    If you prefer you could get an "upgraded" Kinugawa aluminium valve with a range of springs to suit 'mapped' cars
    bit.ly/TD04_BPV_Kinugawa_upgr...
    The eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted I've fitted some blue silicon vacuum pipe. You'll be needing ID=4mm (except the fuel pressure regulator, which needs ID=3mm)

    There is other method to seal a body of DV instead silicone: put some bolts thru the holes that head of the bolt is from turbo side. It will lift body of DV a few mm. Then on a flat surface hit the top of the body with a hammer. Not hard, just gently to bend up those lips with holes. It will make a slight "banana" shape on the edge and let the body better hold membrane on the surface. Some tuners in east europe stopped replacing these valves when they figured out how to make body fit better to the turbo

    Can you do a video about P0101 on this engine? What is often the cause of p0101, what to check, how to solve it and so on. Thanks in advance, Best regards to you.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 года назад +1

      Hi Miroslav, P0101 relates to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, but is rarely caused by the sensor itself. A vacuum leak or boost leak is much more likley. All the same, give the MAF a clean (see ruclips.net/video/V6fxxprx1F8/видео.html), check for the leak detailed in this video you've commented on, check for this issue ruclips.net/video/bgLn14dZL3Q/видео.html. Check all vacuum pipes for any signs of splitting. Check all boost pipes for same. Also check the intercooler for leaks (they sage and break). You'll need to get the bumper off to get at the IC ruclips.net/video/Adkcj8kTo_U/видео.html. A dirty or sticking PCV valve can also be the cause, but you need to take the inlet manifold off to check the valve.

      @@CycloneCyd THANK YOU for your quick respond. God I wish I lived closer to you so that you could take a look at my car. I did check the MAF, cleaned it, changed several and it is not the MAF. I bought the same blue intake hose that is attached in front of the turbo and still p0101 returned. Then I bought a used intercooler and replaced it with mine just to be sure. Still p0101. I did inspect closely hoses and could not find or see any leak. In your post (the last sentence) you wrote about PCV valve. Do you mean this car part ( www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/64074/PCV-Valve-12786376/ ) . If so then I must say I did not inspect that part. Didnt know that it can trigger p0101. Everywhere I read about p0101 they almost all say AIR BOOST LEAK. If PCV valve is bad it doesnt neccesery causing air leak right? As you said earlier if it is dirty or sticky then it can trigger p0101. I did manage to find a video on youtube ( ruclips.net/video/dIrD4bdbk8U/видео.html ) how to replace it. Ill guess this will be my next step then. Nearest Saab mechanic is 250 km from me so I am stuck with myself to solve the problem :) almost forgott, some people are saying that MAP can cause p0101. From what I can see my engine b207r (saab 93 ss aero 2003) have two MAPs. One is attached on the big hose that is connected to TB and the second one is located here ( ruclips.net/video/pgPCrioK-6A/видео.html ) . Can they be causing p0101?
      Once again big THANK YOU for answering. Best regards to you.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  5 лет назад

      Hi Mo, have you checked the condition of the diverter valve and for vacuum/boost leaks? Which valve were you referrring to? Also check the integrity of the IC - they bow at the bottom and eventually leak. A smoke test might be a good idea. P2261 is usually a loss of boost, for which there are a myriad of potential causes, a leak of some sort being most likely. Also check cleanliness of your MAP sensor and wiring integrity for all sensors.

    I have something else to add. I have this issue where if I'm going like say 55-60 mph, and I slowly give it some more gas, I can hear this air noise that sounds like a jet occur from the engine, and you can hear it clearly though the cabin. And the faster you go, the higher it gets and it also has the little fluttering noise that occurs with it. When you left off you can hear a big spool like it had a. Unch of boost holding up. Now this is still happening to me, even after I recently replaced my diverter valve with a Forge one. I'm still waiting for my breather tube o-ring to come in that mail. You think this is just happening because the o-ring might be going bad?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 года назад +2

      Doesn't the Forge divertor come with 3 springs? Try the weakest one first. That fluttering is the air going supersonic in the turbine due to excess boost pressure (known as cavitation) and it could wreck your turbo.

      Is it the same Mitsubishi TD04 turbo? Interestingly, I've worked out that I don't think a smoke test would reveal this leak ❗ So inspection is your only recourse.

    Speaking hypothetically, if you have the hard o ring and leaking air to the turbocharger, plus a bad diverter valve, how much boost would you be losing. Would it be quite a bit?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 года назад +2

      Since the lost boost is lost to atmosphere, then depending on how bad the leak is, then in theory you could lose all the boost. In practice from what I can see most people seem to lose around 2-4 psi. When a stock motor gives 12psi max, that is quite a significant chunk (about 1/3rd). Obviously the loss is unpredictable for any individual car, but even if it's only 1psi that's power and economy just sapping away there and potentially poisoning the cat through rich mixture.

    • @adrianleon1731
      @adrianleon1731 4 года назад

      @@CycloneCyd Wow yes that's quite a bit of power loss. I'm under the impression that I have the greatest possible amount of boost loss so I cant wait to fix it. I ordered a Forge diverter valve and a new o ring. Should be here shortly

    • @CycloneCyd

      Inspect all the pipes and tubes first. Squeeze them and bend them looking for cracks.
      Best way though is to 'waft' an [unlit] plumbers torch along all the pipes and mating surfaces until you hear the engine note change. Then you know roughly where it is.
      Use brake cleaner if you've not got a plumbers torch.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  5 лет назад

      Hi Alpha, P0033 relates to a problem regulating boost, so YES it could be caused by a leak around the diverter valve. Nearly every TD04 equipped engine is likely to have this problem, so it's worth an hour sorting it out.
