  • Rebuilding this "new to me" turbo for my L200 truck. Bearings and turbine shaft looked really good, It was just leaking oil from both sides. I have opted to keep old shaft and compressor wheel as they seemed in good condition.

      You are probably better off with Knipex ;-)

    Commendable job going so far as removing those bearing retaining rings! I managed to get 1 original out... took forever! Couldn't get the new one in there because no chamfer... took forever just to put the old one back in. I don't really see these needing replacement anyway, they just live in a groove. I assume they have a cushion of oil between them and the bearing face anyway?

      You are probably right but they were included in the kit so I changed them anyway 😉

    I have one of these turbos on my k74 l200. I know the seals have gone as there’s loads of oil up the intake pipe. Inside that side of the turbo, the vanes I can see, wobbles from side to side.
    What else to I need to get to refurb it ? Any advice would be great. Cheers

      Depending on damage, at minimum you need rebuild kit with bearings and seals. Inspect turbine shaft for excessive wear at bearing contact points. If shaft is worn out, get shaft and compressor wheel as well. If you are based in UK i recommend www.turborebuild.co.uk for sourcing parts.

      @@htn3745 thanks for replying. Yeah I’ve looked at their site last night. 35 quid plus vat for the seals and bearing kit, or 110 plus vat for the compressor wheel already built.
      I’m going to have to take the turbo off to have a better look at it.
      Thanks for the advice 👍

    Sir , number on the plate of the turbo is 1515A170 from mitsubishi L200 2010. Where can I find the repair kit of it. . TIA.

      Hey, there is no rebuild kit on turborebuild.co.uk, they only supply whole cartridge(www.turborebuild.co.uk/webshop/prod_6096448-IHI-RHV4-Turbocharger-CHRA-Cartridge-Turbo-Core-VT16-1515A170-Mitsubishi-L200-25D.html). You can get rebuild kits from chineese sites but I would be very careful about that.

      there are 2 retainer rings on turbo for sure, so there should be 2 in the kit...

    Every now and then and especially after a hard drive I get a little oil in my overflow tank and having tested head gasket etc (all new/head etc) I can only assume its coming from the turbo.
    Is this feasible? Obviously my shogun sport 2.5tdi has a water cooled turbo charger.
    If so.. Is it a "kit fix" or a new unit?

    • @htn3745
      @htn3745  3 года назад

      Never heard about oil-water mixing in turbo, can't imagine how it would happen. Most likely it is EGR cooler if you have one on your engine, or head/head gasket. Ever need to refill your coolant? If so there is good chance it is being pushed out from overflow tank. Check for bubbles in overflow tank. Either way, I am afraid turbo is not your culprit.

      Hey.. Thanks for the reply.
      As a pro Tech I rebuilt my 4d56t to a high std and upgraded cooling system and removed egr system completely (Blanked with end plates.. No cooler).
      Head has been pressure tested and leak tested.. All OK.
      I have never had this on a vehicle before. Its either full of oil in coolant or not, but this is little splodges of oil every now and then.
      The only "none new" part is the turbo which was second hand and does have a coolant line running through it. I have no oil contamination at all. Guess I will have to remove/blank coolant hoses to turbo and see if oil dribbles out. 🤔🤔🤔

      @@harwoods11 Hey, turbo cartridge is solid casting and coolant passageways are separated by pretty thick walls from shaft/bearings/oil. As I said, can't really imagine how oil would get into coolant inside the turbo. Maybe there's contamination in radiator, from some previous head/gasket incident, and is getting into overflow tank?

    • @harwoods11
      @harwoods11 3 года назад

      @@htn3745
      The radiator is a Firenza duel core alloy unit and is new as are all the cooling system components.
      It did, I believe have an aftermarket core fitted to the turbo prior to my ownership which is why I'm thinking.. Where else could coolant and oil possibly meet apart from the cylinder head.
      Cheers anyway... I will let you know what I find. 🛠️🔧🔩⚙️

      Nope, Mitsubishi fitted these with TD04 and TF035 turbochargers. And there are few variations for TD04 on top of that. So best shot is to check type number on your compressor housing(ALU part of turbocharger) and order repair kit for that type number. This is good site to look up part numbers for your turbo www.turbomaster.info/eng/applications/passenger_cars/

    Ser what kind of repair kit for tdo4 9b

    • @htn3745
      @htn3745  3 года назад

      My recommendation would be to look for exact type number on your turbo housing. From my experience there are few different variations of TD04. Diameters of shafts and shape/dimensions of turbine wheel and compressor wheel are different on these. With that exact type number you just search for repair kit. For example I have used services of www.turborebuild.co.uk/webshop/ multiple times and with great results.
