great to have young man who loves the old Saabs and knows how to care for them. Sadly mechanics have walked away from working on Saabs. So sad to let go of my Saab 9-3 convertible which only has 72,000 miles on it. It's like parting with a dear friend.

Just wanted to say thank you for this video! The check engine light came on in my 2005 9-3 and the code was for a bad bypass valve or hose. New valve was only ~$40. Quick and easy fix (besides the hoses being really difficult to remove).

Great advice on those control solenoids!
There is another one mounted on top of the intake near the Throttle body, that controls the blowoff valve. Visually identical, but different part number. Each of those is about $45 new from Eeuro. Easy replacements and really woke my 05 ARC up a few years ago. My symptom was if I floored it, the boost would hit less than full and then wither away even more within seconds. Both replaced, problem solved. Glad yours was the boost hose, as that is another example of an easy check and fix.

Changed whole vacuum system over to silicone - made considerable difference to my 2.0 9.3 Aero - original vacuum pipes looked ok until smoke test revealed leaks from concertina on bend of cobra pipe from turbo to air filter - removing rubber vacuum pipes revealed perishing at back that could not be seen when in place - 2 metres of 6mm vacuum pipe did all of them with loads to spare - have been trying to solve uneven idle from cold for a few weeks - throttle body failed in exceptional
UK heatwave - car was un drive-able in 1st and 2nd gear about 15mph flat out !
Secondhand throttle body cured it - now getting about 26 mpg with stage 1 remap
Busy doing rustproofing at moment in UK with outstanding
Bilt Hamber cavity wax - product comes in aerosol with 30 cm lance that sprays 360 degree- perfect for treating behind plastic wheel liners without dismantling - also great for doing Aero body skirts as you can get cavity wax onto body that rusts out of sight !

I had a similar issue with my 04 93. Would build slight boost then shutter around half way on the boost gauge and wouldn't fully spool the turbo until about 4k rpm. Checked all the vacuum lines and the BPC valve it ended up being the bypass control valve located next to the throttle body mounted on the engine cover bracket, looks very similar to the BPC valve but different part number

Great video, If you're modifying the power at all, one of the first things to change are the intercooler soft pipes, for some silicon pipes. I kept on bursting top pipes on my 2006 95 Estate (Edna facelift version) with the 1.9TiD 150bhp Z19DTH engine from Fiat. I had 205bhp and it turned out that the top pipe expanded like a balloon to keep rubbing on an object next to it. I only foud out after revving it up with hte bonnet open and looking through the gap under the wipers as I revved.

    • @AutoAutopsy

Just changed mine on my 2.8 for maybe the third time. I've been getting the Porsche Pierberg one, on eeuroparts and you can buy on eBay too for less money. I've been told and seen on forums that the Porsche one tends to hold higher boost and the same direct fit. I am on stage 3 Maptun so this might be my culprit 9/10 times. I know once before it was my brake booster hose in back of the engine bay that was cracked.

It's really remarkable how your cars don't ever have the slightest of rust. You often complain about the heat, but it goes to show that your Sonoran climate definitely also has it's benefits, right? In Scandinavia, our SAABs rust away relentlessly.

Thanks man. Dealing with boost issues on my "new" 2011 9-3 2.0T xwd 128k miles (with a replaced 2010 b207r 90k miles)(nice lookin car!). Its been throwing up a turbo wastegate solenoid error (can't remember the code off the top of my head) and all 4 "camshaft sensor" errors (P0340) all at once on startup. Put original coils back in, checked/changed the plugs to some good quality @ .039, but its still just not delivering the expected power. Don't think there's any leaks as it pulls a vacuum and reads a few lbs of boost in the lower end, but getting up into the gears (6sp semiauto), it just doesn't seem to deliver the juice from the turbo. Something is amiss... Thanks for the video bc this was my next target. Going to have it checked out, but I am anxious to get this thing working before possibly getting some upgrades!
Worried it may be something else or the shop that replaced the engine didn't put everything back properly.

I pulled out of the driveway and reversed ok hit the gas and again it was like hitting a wall car would not move no matter how much the gas was pushed. Reversed it fine and got it back in the driveway. I have started to check the hoses and cant find anything obvious. Anyone have ay ideas of the cause of this? I have been having this issue for a long time now. Car will stop making boost all together. As if the computer is telling the solenoid or vice versa to not allow the turbo to make boost. Sometimes it throws code p0033 and I have to clear code. Once cleared car makes boost again, other times it will do it with no code, and if I shut the car down, and restart it, I will have boost again. Issues started a couple weeks after installing a direct bolt on kinugawa vent to atmosphere style blow off valve. Car functioned just fine with it for a few weeks, and this issue started up out of no where. My tuner was able to go into the tune and mess with the maf reading calibration somehow (think he allowed more time in between reading's to compensate for the air being vented rather than recirculating) And issue went away for a year or two. Issue randomly came back and tuner has played with it many times, unable to get it to function properly again. I tried going back to stock diverter valve, and issue was still there. I'm about at my witt's end with it lol I am about to replace all vacuum lines as a feeble attempt and the peace of mind of having that ruled out. If does not work I will try replacing both solenoid's. I'm skeptical that either is gonna correct my issue though. Anyone know what else I should be checking for here? Typical response I have been able to find online is to replace the diaphragm inside the stock diverter valve, but since I am not running stock, does not help me here lol thanks in advance anyone that may be able to shed some light here

I did not know this but when I bought the car that turbo return line was blocked off with a bolt and hose clamp. I was driving it like that for awhile get a coolant flush and ever since then I've been having issues because I tried to fix the upper radiator hose and put the one with a t and reconnect turbo return coolant line

Need some help. I have a 2004 Saab 93 2.0t I had a bad radiator hose and overheated it. After the first overheat, the car sounded different when cranking it over. Almost like it had less compression and wouldn't start like it used. Only way I could start it when cold was if I pumped the gas peddle fast repeatedly till it would start. When started it sounded and ran as normal. Only issue like I said, sounded different when cranking and needed to pump the peddle to get it to start up. After I overheated the car the second time, sounded about the same, but now when I pump the gas peddle it doesn't wanna start. Doesn't come close to starting. Is it likely I damaged the ECU from overheating? Or possibly something else or a sensor I'm not aware of? Maybe the vehicle has some sorta mechanism that protects it from further damage and something needs to be reset? I can't afford to bring it to a mechanic, so any info/help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
