    Easier to push the PCV valve from the throttle body end of the intake manifold, just push with your pliers or screw driver or anything that will fit in the hole, like an allen wrench or 1/4 extension.

    Hello. I have a slight problem with my Saab. Just brought the car back from deads. It was sitting for the last 4 years and bought it to bring back to life. Replaced spark plugs, oil, filters, replaced all vacum lines. Fixed the turbo, and replaced the air filter with one open air filter. Also the exhaust needed fix, so I bought one second hand from a breaker. Replaced struts, springs, strut mounts, bushings, arms and mostly all bits... Put new oil gearbox, flushed the power steering and put new oil. Also put fresh coolant. Now the problem it goes like this.
    The car starts fine, drives fine, idles fine. But when I rev the engine harder a cloud of smoke stats to appear. The cloud is very big when accelerating hard, and it is still present but not as much when idling. This happens only with the engine cold. I opened the turbo hose se there if it is any oil inside, and found a bit of oil. Not much but it was a few drops. Now I wonder if I might have some oil in the exhaust since bought from breaker and I don't know the history of the part. Maybe the car it was on had some issues and thrown some oil in the exhaust. Or maybe is my pcv valve bad since the car was not started for so many years.
    Coolant level stays in the correct margins and temperature is great too....
    So I wonderif oil in the exhaust or bad pcv could be the culprit for my smoking saab. If you have any suggestion, please help me out. Thank you very much.

    Could I just take pcv apart and replace flap

  • @caractacusbrittania7442
    @caractacusbrittania7442 Год назад +1

    Love yor tips cyd, and followed a lot of them, particularly the solid mounts two pack compound.
    On the pcv issue, it's not good for an engine to burn Oily crankcase gases
    As it lowers the octane rating of the fuel in the cylinder when burning,,
    Besides slowly building a residue.
    I know mfgrs do it to lower emissions as one of the reasons.
    For two months now on my petrol aero, I have been running the engine
    With bypassed pcv, and a catch can.
    The engine runs fine, with no starting issues, idling is probably better,
    The only noticeable drawback is
    Occasionally I get a slight whiff of
    Engine burn in the cabin.
    Other than that, no problems.

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  Год назад +1

      Ultimately a catch can is the best solution, provided the residue is properly disposed of (unlikely to happen in most cases). In any case, if the engine is in good condition, you shouldn't be getting much oiliness through the pcv.

    I’m trying to bypass the ignition switch on my 06 Saab 9 3 Aero…I’m getting a “steering malfunction” message and I’m not paying out the ass for any new “modules”. I’m going to have to take the ignition switch apart and disable the pin that locks the switch. I’ll still get power when I turn the key to the on position but it won’t start the car. I’m going to install a push button switch with an inline fuse and wire one end to the battery and the other to the starter relay in the fuse box. I hope this works because it is a pain in the ass to take the center console apart…Any knowledgable suggestions would be appreciated!

    Hi Cyd, on some forums people say that it is safe to block inlet pcv hole( saab, cobalt forums), it stops oil getting in manifold and loosing oil and boost... Adding oil catch can on turbo side baffle helps too. Do you think it is safe to do that?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  2 года назад +1

      NO, don't do that.

    • @caractacusbrittania7442
      @caractacusbrittania7442 2 года назад

      @@CycloneCyd hi cyd, can you expand a little on your reply.
      I understand that pcv systems on cars were designed to reduce emissions and help the environment,
      But it is surely factual that combustion without octane lowering
      Oily and carbon heavy crankcase gases, would make a cleaner burning engine.
      A catch can fitted would safely remove what would have been burnt in the cylinders.
      Just interested on your take on that.

    since the replacement of the PCV I have had to replace the turbo as it was passing oil and there is no evidence of the PCV being replaced when turbo was replaced though oil was evident in the pipes to the inlet manifold
