Hi, today is Aug 28/ 2023, @ 1:51AM.monday. I've been using Liquid Moli for over a year and a half. Gas and oil treatment. I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5 V6. It was emitting blue smoke ( burning oil) on start up. Well a friend suggested that I use this treatment to see if it helped. Well, good news! It did and it continues to do so!! No more smoke, the tops of the cylinders are very clean. And the exhaust pipes don't have that black soot. They look new. The cars runs great. I changed out the electronic coils, plugs and installed a new plenum gasket...was leaking a little blow by. Engine is very tight! The stuff is great! By the way? Great video! Liqui- Moli is a great product! All
Wow! Thanks for taking the time to write such detailed feedback. I think so too about Liqui Moly products. I used their engine flush plus and it really did decent work on a sludged up engine. Thanks for the compliments too!
That is a surprisingly thorough testprocedure! Very nice, good pacing and very good method of procedure. The brown residue which is most likely from subpar fuel with excess sulfates etc. won't be burnt away with Liqui Moly. Only with high quality fuel you get a chance. That being said, this residue is neglectable and only carbon buildup is of real concern. Well done!

Great video. Thank you for putting the time and mileage into the project. Liqui Moly is in my opinion the best overall to always use as quality of fuel slowly gets worse. You might want to swap your plugs, valve clean can leave a strange byproduct on them. Fresh plugs will always help everything work the way it should during cleaning.
You know you can also clean plugs? My dad used to do it on his cars when I was a child (loved 'helping' him work on the car at weekends). He had a soft wire bristle brush just for the job, would whip out the plugs, clean off the junk (leaded fuel back then and clearly not as squeaky clean as people like to think) and then check the gap (and reset as needed) with a feeler gauge. Really simple job anyone can do. Seems wasteful to bin plugs just because they look dirty. They last a long time really (my grandad was involved in the manufacture of NGK plugs).
Impressive video and results. Clean pistons improve compression and performance. Its quite difficult to clean them and most products have minimal effect. I use several liquimoly products and i'm also going to try this one.

Yea. It even stopped the oil consumption I was having. I think the Italian tuning plus the cleaner potentially unstuck the oil control rings. I would usually add a quart in 1500 miles or so, but the oil has remained at the top dot through 2000miles of high speed driving.
Yep! Slow process it is. Probably why it comes in that can of 12. Lol. That said, I'm yet to see something that gives spick and span results in one treatment!
I use it and it works. But you gotta combine it with a good hard drive. I use it with half a tank and go push the car for 20-30 minutes HARD. Makes all the carbon go away. Also cleans the injectors good. When I say push it hard I mean it, no highway, go to some mountain and go uphill, get some heat into the engine and get 7-8mpg out of it.
@@DIYAutoworksNG it also works for GDI engines, my forester XT never needs Valve cleaning because I push it hard and race it 3x a week. Just pulled the motor to do head gaskets (small leak at 150.000kms, about 500 races) and some seals, the Valves where quite clean.
@@flipd2830 you could also look for some backroads with a lot of cornering... That will keep the speed lower but you should be able to push the engine out of the corners, so it will heat up more than on the highway
I would have used Yamaha's Yamalube Ring Free Plus Fuel additive in the fuel at a shock treatment dosage. This is widely used in the outboard 2 stroke marine industry to remove carbon from valves, combustions chambers, and largely preventing piston rings from sticking. I use this on my outboard engines at every fill-up and it keeps the engine and spark plugs incredibly clean and is safe for both 2 and 4 stroke engines. Ring free treats 10 gallons per ounce, and the "shock treatment" is 5 gallons per ounce is what some people use when they initially buy a used boat that's never been treated with the additive for aggressive cleaning of carbon. See the below video link of this guy using it in an attempt to help his oil consumption. This product is a highly concentrated cleaner, and I would simply mix this with a gallon of gas, pour it into the fuel tank and then fill the gas tank at the station to get the syrup like consistency of the cleaner properly mixed into the fuel. This is not designed to be added to your oil....fuel only. ruclips.net/video/-3Ielu6dJwo/видео.html
I actually saw this video when it premiered! Thanks for sharing. Apparently what worked most for @FamilyFriendlyDIY aka DIY Dave was the piston soak with B12 chemtool.
Hello, nice video documenting your experience. Btw, reading the SDS of this product it seems that it's almost kerosene (no PEA included as you said) but using it regularly and driving with high rpms it seemed to work on your engine. I have to try the same thing as you, but with kerosene.
Thanks for sharing! If you do have before and after footage, I won't mind seeing. Personally can't stomach adding kerosene to the tank for now. Maybe if I know better.
Interesting because PEA is the most common way to reduce carbon build up in an engine. PEA will increase carbon build up on new engines however reduce or remove it on an older engine.
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and particularly recognising that this 5-min clip took months in the making! I'm running another multi-tank fuel system cleaner experiment! Just waiting to hit 1k miles before my first set of findings!
The big problem with direct injection engines is the accumulation of carbon in the intake valves. In this video the cylinders are cleaner because the gasoline and the product is injected directly into the cylinder and does not pass through the valves. If the valves were shown, they still had carbon deposits. Only solution is a dual injection system like Toyota's
Good question! Both definitely had an effect. I'm yet to test removing significant carbon build up with just a Italian tune up. Will look into this whenever next I have a planned long trip!
Would be interesting to see what adding it right to the cylinders through the spark plugs would have done. Those tan deposits are super tough to remove with a wire brush even. My old carborated harley pistons are cleaner than that after about the same km..... the wonders of 'modern' technology lol
Agree, I have done borescope comparisons on my GDI engine using premium fuel. In as little as 15km of high rpm and multiple WOT runs significantly reduces carbon. ruclips.net/video/Zr6m5WGjpg4/видео.html
Good method of testing. Pity you did not perform an engine compression test before and after since removing carbon buildup should remove carbon buildup around your oil scraping rings on the pistons thus improving compression and reduce oil consumption if they are not worn too much. Did you note any change in oil consumption afterthe cleanup?
Great point there. That would have made the puzzle complete! Will consider for future efforts. But it definitely improved compression because oil use dropped. I have a video on the benefits I gained after doing this treatment; decrease in oil consumption included! ruclips.net/video/7acdMb10Kbw/видео.htmlsi=2xc_e54d_-lEGGoW
@@DIYAutoworksNG you better ask the company first 😎 Engine cleaner to put into your Oil than 15 min on 1,500 rpm before oil change… 99% Diesel 🤷♂️ You just pay a lot more 🤪😂😂
Looks like it does a good job. I wonder how much of a difference it really make by cleaning the carbon build up off the pistons? Would have been good the do compression numbers before and after.
Yea. Doing compression would have been another good addition! However, engine was pinging before this. Totally gone afterwards. Also gained 2 - 3 mpg and cut my oil loss by more than half telling me that it did free up oil control rings.
Thanks for your compliment! I tested it on soaking carboned up spark plugs and noticed that its not good as a soaking agent. Did nothing in terms of softening the deposits. That just tells me it needs heat to activate.
I used to clean valves all the time the hard carbon would have to be steel brushed off the valve it took alot of work I would say the best thing is to take preventative measures before they have that much build up lol
Very nice video, only my question is does the car's tank have to be completely empty or only half full.....and I also wanted to ask you, do I have to refill the Liquid Moli with every tank?
@@DIYAutoworksNG Thank you for your answer but you didn't answer my second question, which is that I have to add these additives every time I fill up the tank
Hello that's what I meant by consistent use. Not practical to use every single time you fill up, but good to use back-to-back for some fill ups. Also, if you use premium gas, you likely won't need this.
Your efforts are much appreciated. Help us to know What is the difference between liqui moly valve cleaner and diesel purge? Combustion for all like valve, piston and spray nozzle happens same time. So cleaning point starts from Diesel spray nozzle, valves then to piston. Would all these also cleaned. A big thanks in advance
Good question. Yes there is. Depends on how thick the layer is. Increased carbon will reduce the volume of the combustion chamber and thereby affect compression ratio. An out of spec compression ratio will lead to spark knock or pinging. I was having this before starting the cleaning process. It was gone when I was done. Remember, the combustion chamber is actually the little space with the piston at the top of its stroke (top dead center), so it's much smaller in volume compared to what I show in the video.
I hope you will answer this question. After all of the Chrome-Moly you put in your tank. Did you look at the valves to see before and after the use of this product? Tour videos are very useful and I thank you sincerely. I'm driving an 02 Accord LX 2.3L with 5 Speed Manual Transmission. I've owned this Awesome Accord since I bought it Brand New.
Sure pleased to answer! No need looking inspecting the intake valves since the engine is GDI. That car is sure going to be so difficult for you to let go of. I let go of a 2003 Accord I had for 13 years. Almost cried when the guy drove off🤣
Hi, nice video! I have one question, all the carbon removed stuck in the catalytic? Or it will be desentigrated and no harmful the catalytic? Thank you!
Great point! From the previous videos I've done investigating this, the risk is minimal. Search for the videos I did on "will CRC clog your catalytic converter", and the BG44K Platinum video. I think the only place where there would be issues is if the catalytic converter was maybe partially clogged already. It could also be that I haven't tested products enough to see if its a problem!
Cool. How do you know it was not the spirited driving alone though? Proof would be that the double treatment did not make much difference but rather the continuous spirited driving?? 🤷♂️
I have a diesel car but always add the 'supreme' diesel rather than standard as it supposedely has more detergent in it. Of course no way for me to test that claim but I don't get DPF problems like so many other people. Sure the outlay is a bit higher but I'm not paying a garage to clear error codes or try and flush my DPF so probably balances out. I used to use a particular additive (won't name them) but after calling their helpline after I split some on myself the guy let slip it's basically kerosene... which would have been about 10 times cheaper to buy than the additive was.
Most interesting for me - how about try "clean" pistons only with long run on high rev?🌚 My thoughts: higher revs - higher temperature - more "vibration" - all provides to self-cleaning 🌚 Do we really need those additives?🌚
Excelente video, estoy interesado en realizar la prueba en mi vehículo. Quisiera consultar que clase de combustible es la que cargaste que dice combustible limpia en 5to tratamiento?
50 50 mix of distilled water and windshield washer fluid will clean it much better. It does it slower. If engine spends time at idle you can have more buildup like in cold weather.
Thanks for sharing! Won't windshield washer fluid have one of those catalyst poisons? Your last sentence is why I get a lot of build up. Some usual traffic in my regular routes.
No it won't. Think of a blown head gasket. The cylinder that injest the coolant is perfectly clean. Piston and valves. The water turns to vapor and the washer fluid helps it turn to vapor faster. It does not take much. Inject it behind throttle body. Use a vacuum switch so it come on under load or when acceleration. Most buildup occurs from PVC positive crankcase ventilation.
What do you think? 🤔 Willing to go several fill ups in other to get clean pistons? I guess significant buildup will require multiple treatments.

Clearly a cleaning method for the patient minded.
Yea. Well, if you have significant build up like I did, you'll have to be patient except you want to pull the head or do a piston soak.
@@DIYAutoworksNG Non-invasive is good.
Yea. It even stopped the oil consumption I was having. I think the Italian tuning plus the cleaner potentially unstuck the oil control rings. I would usually add a quart in 1500 miles or so, but the oil has remained at the top dot through 2000miles of high speed driving.
@@DIYAutoworksNG It's good to have collateral benefits instead of collateral damages. 😄
@@DIYAutoworksNGlso Is this Product less effective if i dont floor it ???? Meaning it wont clean carbon in city driving
I tested several. The best one to clean combustion chambers was Italian Tuneups on pure E85...
Thanks for sharing your process! Alcohol does burn cleaner.
be nice to pair this with an oil catch can, and of course an oil change not too long after application. great vid!
Right on the money! I have an oil catch can already installed. Did so early this year. Has significantly cut deposits reforming since installed.
an oil catch can on a Honda GDI engine is pointless it will have minimum effect so its not needed.
I got a Veloster 1.6 GDi, gonna try this method.
Brilliantly done video! Always thought this sort of liquid was snake oil but after watching your video I'm going to give it a try, thanks
Thanks
Hello @andrejedidaniels, did you give it a try? Any feedback after one year? Thank you.
Thanks. Looks like a slow process which is probably good. This product is available in a case of 12!
Thanks for sharing. Interesting take on pushing hard. That will certainly turn up the heat🔥
Wow! Thanks for this insight. Will try this out.
Hmmm,....going to look for a mountain in south florida to try this out.....lol

@brarautorepairs How does PEA increase build up in newer engines?
One of the best before and after videos!! Excellent job, you made me go try this.
Thanks!
To think that I just started researching about Ceratec and I saw your notification 😂
😁 Haven't used ceratec before, but I've heard good things about it.
This is awesome, thank you for sharing! and investing and taking the time to demonstrate this.
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and particularly recognising that this 5-min clip took months in the making!
I'm running another multi-tank fuel system cleaner experiment! Just waiting to hit 1k miles before my first set of findings!
I would love another test with a MPFI car, as these being an older techology found in older cars, deposits MAY be even more substantial/
Great Vid .
Thanks mate. On the contrary, GDI would have more buildup all things being equal.
Thank you for informative content. Only thing i was hoping for but didnt get was why i shouldn't do this
Well... If you have access to top tier gas, then I guess you wouldn't need this because the fuel should have additives to reduce build up.
Damn nice video man. I think a lot of people are scared to tamper with their vehicles and are uninformed. Keep up the good educational videos!!!
This means a lot. Thank you for taking time to comment!
This was an excellent video. I especially liked you explaining on opening the car up on those longer trips. Well done!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
💯 Agree! I don't know why other manufacturers have not adopted dual injection.
They want service they dont f about us
So you are telling me the product is going to be less effective at cleaning carbon build on pistons on a car with port injection only????
Nope. It's should clean as well!
Excellent video! I wonder which had more effect on carbon removal. Driving hard for extended periods of time aka “Italian tune up” or the additive.
You should see today's video! Not soaking but interesting all the same.
Use the Liqui-Moli oil treatment! It does work.
I use a can of it at every oil change.
Good video. I imagine those long 100 mile Italian tuning sessions are where the product worked best.
Exactly!
great results! could you also try hot shots secret gasoline extereme?
Thanks, mate! I'll look into getting the hot shots. Haven't found it locally. Being HAZMAT, will be challenging to ship internationally.
Best video and explanation for the product. Liqui moly should hire you bro 👍🏽
🤣 Thanks for watching!
I would like to see the same test but without liqui moly... just keep those revs up and I bet you could get the same amount of cleaning.
Challenge accepted!
Agree
Agree, I have done borescope comparisons on my GDI engine using premium fuel. In as little as 15km of high rpm and multiple WOT runs significantly reduces carbon. ruclips.net/video/Zr6m5WGjpg4/видео.html

this is a great comment! my mileage went up 6 mpg after reading it! I'll be re-reading this comment every 500 miles from now on!
It’s pretty much the same as breakfluid…
Remember Valves are in need of their ‚crusted surface‘.
It’s always good to know how to do the needs.
This is not true. Unrelated to brake fluid.
@@DIYAutoworksNG you better ask the company first 😎
Engine cleaner to put into your Oil than 15 min on 1,500 rpm before oil change… 99% Diesel 🤷♂️

Excellent video, perfect amount of info and length. Subbed
Awesome, thank you!
80k miles ..what are you burning. Coal.
Looks like it does a good job. I wonder how much of a difference it really make by cleaning the carbon build up off the pistons? Would have been good the do compression numbers before and after.
Yea. Doing compression would have been another good addition! However, engine was pinging before this. Totally gone afterwards. Also gained 2 - 3 mpg and cut my oil loss by more than half telling me that it did free up oil control rings.
lol. One tank of fuel lasts me one to two months. The shot of four bottles for four fillings caught me off guard.
Thanks for the great video, well done! Did you consider pouring the additive into the combustion chambers and letting it soak over night?
Thanks for your compliment!
I tested it on soaking carboned up spark plugs and noticed that its not good as a soaking agent. Did nothing in terms of softening the deposits. That just tells me it needs heat to activate.
Best video review ever i like the camera down the cylinder to see before n after 👌👏👏👏
Thanks for the compliment! I do a lot of these fuel system cleaner videos, and have some more in the works!
Thank you for this video. Do you think that it cleans piston ring as well?
Yes. I did a follow up video on the benefits I gained after this procedure. Oil consumption went down significantly.
@@DIYAutoworksNG Thank you for your answer.
I never knew one can wouldn't be enough.😮
Great video!
Thanks mate!
Genial video, gracias!
Has probado el limpiador de inyectores de Liqui Moly?
Thanks! I have it in stock, but haven't used.
I used to clean valves all the time the hard carbon would have to be steel brushed off the valve it took alot of work I would say the best thing is to take preventative measures before they have that much build up lol
100% right you are!
Like what?
Very nice video, only my question is does the car's tank have to be completely empty or only half full.....and I also wanted to ask you, do I have to refill the Liquid Moli with every tank?
Thanks for the compliment. Tank doesn't have to be completely empty for this product. I found that consistent use is what brings the result.
Straight to the point. Well done and thank you.
You're welcome!
Let’s Go Liqui Moly! Great Stuff!
Boom!
Great video! Is there any evidence that proves that a layer of carbon on the tops of pistons has any detrimental effect on engine performance?
Almost cried when the guy drove off🤣
Great video. Thankyou. Used liquid moly in my Subaru Legacy 3lt. Will now give it a go in my wifes' little Auris
Smooth. 👌🏼
@@DIYAutoworksNG Thank you man! I'll search the videos.
try Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner , worked for me very well with one treatment
I have my eyes set on this!
Cool. How do you know it was not the spirited driving alone though? Proof would be that the double treatment did not make much difference but rather the continuous spirited driving?? 🤷♂️
Good point. Recently did a separate run without additives. Videos should be coming soon.
Yea. I agree with higher quality fuels. The extra detergents does help engines run cleaner.
Thank you for the video. Is it possible to use on diesel engines too?
They have a different formulation for diesel engines. Thanks for the compliment!
Most interesting for me - how about try "clean" pistons only with long run on high rev?🌚 My thoughts: higher revs - higher temperature - more "vibration" - all provides to self-cleaning 🌚
Do we really need those additives?🌚
Did that already 😁. Here ruclips.net/video/S12ioOeiRWk/видео.html

Italian tune up did the trick ;-) "Spirited driving"
Not the Italian tuning alone. I've done a comparison without an additive and the additive does make a difference. Will soon post the video.
