I tried to siphon gas out of it, failed lol and then it wouldn't take gas, pump keeps shutting off, and call was pressurized and then this issue of dying, but starting to again after sitting for 10-15 minutes. Think i messed up the filler neck? Or the rollover valve on top the tank with the siphon?

    I have a 1998, 3.3L 4x4 auto. 170,000 miles.
My wife filled gas tank one day last week while it idling and it started acting like it was missing after that.
She drove it 200 miles through the mountains and got it home.
    No codes.
I opened the gas cap, that looks good, and the tank depressurized for no kidding, 5 to 6 minutes. At first it was heavy and wet fumes coming out, then eventually faded away. No visible leaks anywhere, or damage.
I loosened the gas cap and drove it for 18 miles. No change. Acts like it's mildly missing. Plug and wires only 1 year old. No codes.
Also, the RPM gauge shakes about 200 RPMs when it feels like it's missing.
Any ideas? Do ya think my ignition coil just happened to go bad at the same time? Would that not toss a code?
    Thank ya!

@taylorepps9906 I found two small vacuum leaks using a smoke machine. Repaired those. That made fuel trims good but didn't fix the random misfires. So I have a coil coming today. Going to test it and then install it. I think the coil is failing at higher loads/rpms, even though it ohm tests fine when tested cold to warm, when truck is off. It may be getting weak. I hope so. There's no oil or coolant loss, or smoke, so shouldn't be cylinders. The 3 fuel injectors I could access test good, and fuel trims are good. Plugs and wires are new. Cap and rotor are new. Coil is old though...assuming it is bad.

On occasion I noticed if I let my car sit overnight .. When I start the car immediately with the blower motor inside the car defroster on I'll smell gasoline for a few seconds.. then it goes away.. doesn't do this all the time.. obviously the smell is coming from the engine bay.. What should I check ? obviously the fumes are being released into the enigine bay.. I don't see any leaks and I don't smell it with the hood open just happens at start up And on occasion.. if i let the car sit for a couple hours, I do the same thing no smell , I'm wondering if it's even related to those codes Or it could be because I kind of over clicked when I filled up the last time , but it's done it before I'm about to make a smoke machine to test it out ,, do you have any advice in what to check? Since I've never really dealt with the fuel system much ..I'm watching so many videos before I even attempt it

When gas can be smelled with an EVAP code, there is likely an EVAP leak somewhere. I would also start with a smoke test. Components to check are the purge valve, charcoal canister, and all the hoses. The charcoal canister has a vent valve that also can fail.

What if it works intermittently? When I started the car (2008 mercury mariner hybrid) it would not suck even after warming up. The car was higher than normal on idle and the p0455 code came in. I have checked voltage on the connector and I was getting 14v. When it went down to 13v I plugged it back to the valve and it started sucking. The engine light went away. Is the valve the issue or should I look elsewhere?

I replaced the purge valve on 2012 fusion because i got a engine light code saying “very small leak” within the emission system. Replaced it, car runs great, but it makes a clicking noise is this normal?

    • @brebre09shana
      @brebre09shana Год назад

I may be wrong but a clicking noise may be a sign that your rocker arms are damaged or loose. In the process of illumination I came across that symptom and they say it could be the rocker arm

@HVAC Mechanic have RidgeLine, I’ve noticed some differences in design with the EVAP system in that and odyssey and pilot and so on.
I did this test, disconnecting hose to the engine loud and string vacuum, also disconnecting the hose to canister and nothing happened, no vacuum; waited 15 some minutes and still no vacuum. Vehicle running disconnected the wire harness, nothing happened.
Should I replace the solenoid? Thanks

    • @HVAC_Mechanic

The computer will send a signal for it to open at some point, which can vary. You could drive the car to the store and back and then test it. There are other tests. It is just a solenoid that opens when power is applied to it.

@@HVAC_Mechanic the evap codes have always been there along with VTM-4 and 02 sensor codes.
Electrician says just replace the solenoid, just because it work and gets power to it doesn’t mean it actually opens up. I’ve seen many people fix it lights/codes go away and within weeks it comes back with same symptoms.

@@HVAC_Mechanic what codes did you have? I have P0443 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit.
