I just posted my newest SUPER CLEAN video on how to Super Clean your Wheels and remove 2yrs of brake dust, tar, and stains: ruclips.net/video/5zZyiY23OpY/видео.html
Hey man Ik this video was a while back but can u make a more detailed video on how to clean and get rid of surface rust in your engine bay metals, thanks bro
@@chrisfix I just bought myself a Nissan Skyline ER34 GTT and unfortunately they're prone for having rust on the strut towers which mine unfortunately has but I have yet to know if it's only the top plate or if it's deeper, in order to restore the strut tower in the bay does a metal wire dremel such as the one you used in the video and sandpaper suffice? And I assume for sanding it would be working from a grittier grit to a softer grit? Thanks for your videos man as these are going to be extremely useful when my car arrives as it is in rough shape.
I love that Chris has helped me realize that my car is not as scary to understand like some impossible math equation that I thought it was. Saving me tons of money and I'm finally learning about my car and how it works lol.
Been stupidly depressed and anti social. Never thought car videos would cheer me up. I think Chris’s happy attitude and love for what he’s doing is why he’s such a great teacher
Hey Mr. Fix, thanks so much for this video! I'm a 20-somethin college gal and former car-hater who was gifted a car at 230,000mi and your videos have taught me how to love and care for my vehicle with genuine interest. After replacing all of the fluids, I spent the whole day today following your tutorial and detailed the mechanical hellscape that is a Hyundai engine bay, and while my results weren't as phenomenal as yours, the car probably hasn't looked this good since it first rolled off the lot all those miles ago! Thank you for your informative videos, and for teaching me to love working on these crazy machines. - Jackie
Yes you could put a pic of two little innocent children holding hand with God & you would get thousands of dislikes. I would imagine that after you clean your first engine the others are very easy.
@@bobmill4824 The easiest way to spot a jackass on the Internet is when they use the word "genius". They tell people not to clean the engine bay because most people do it by driving to the self-sever car wash, spraying the bay with soapy water, power washing the soap off, and then immediately driving it off. You may have missed it, but that's not what he's doing here. He's going out of his way to protect the electronics from high-pressure water. If the electronics were so sensitive that getting any water on them caused a problem, everybody's car would break down if they drove it in the rain.
I honestly think people get paid to scroll thru RUclips and hit the dislike button. It can be a video of grass or the sun and it'll have 10k dislikes. I think they just need to get rid of the damn button and tell the haters to suck it. Just my opinion
My friend's do not understand why I spend so much time fixing and cleaning my 289,000 mile 1999 Honda Odyssey EX mini-van. I tell them, "Because Chris Fix is teaching me how to make the damn thing last forever". You're one hell of a good mechanic and I appreciate all of your vids. Thank you.
Kik Stitch you spend time and money fixing it?? My 2000 Ford F-250 has 300,000 miles on it, I spend nothing to repair it...just change your oil about once a year and that’s it....
I'm building out my garage so that I can work on my car more effectively thanks to you and Cleetus. Thanks for everything you do, Chris. You're a national treasure.
@@chrisfix I'm using an existing space! I moved in about 8 months ago and the house is brand new so I figured I'd get the most out of it. I had the floor epoxied and I'm buying a ton of storage. I've been binging your videos to get some ideas on what projects to do to warm up. I just refilled my bottle of soapy woder and now I'm looking at expanding my existing tool collection. You're the man, Chris!
This video is a masterclass in making a RUclips video. The contest is almost irrelevant. It's Chris's awesome attitude and personality, and the way he delivers the content that grabs you, holds your attention, gives you hope that you are fully capable of doing a dreaded task all by yourself, and gifts you the skills to get it done. I am a medium-to-advanced DIYer and I never stop learning something from Chris. Thank you!
You nailed it on the head! I don't know a thing about cars, but this video was suggested....and somehow I managed to sit through the entire thing without wanting to fast-forward. I actually enjoyed it!
Hey Maaaan... as an old time car guy, I really enjoyed this vid - But more, I enjoyed your PRESENTATION! No slacker dude with his dog barking constantly in the background, and forgetting his lines, and the wind blowing across the mic, etc... EASY to understand every step and process... GREAT cam and audio work and excellent editing!!! You can not only be proud of your detailing, but proud of the work that went into this DIY vid! Phunny enuf, I was just thinking about cleaning up the engine bay on my '90 Olds a few days ago when I changed the oil.... now I know - it HAS to be done! Thanks, Chris.
I some how stumbled across this video, when I wasn't even looking to clean my engine bay. I ended up watching basically every video you have. Even without needing to do anything on my vehicle. There is just so much time, effort, and instruction in every single video. You earned a sub from the most non-car person on the planet.
Chrisfix I honestly have to say your videos and your channel is definitely in the Top 10 on RUclips. 1. You dont clickbait 2. Your videos are Highly entertaining 3. It's not a waste of time and its fun learning and see what you do every video Thanks for not making me bored and your tips helped me a lot!
Absolutely true. I have only two subscriptions - my brother and ChrisFix. In 45 years of keeping my own cars on the road he is the only person who makes sense 100% of the time.
Q: Do you have 55 days interest free until you have to pay anything after the billing date? A: The interest free period can be UP TO 55 days, not a 55 days from time of purchase. Ensure you always pay your entire balance by the due date to avoid interest charges on purchases.
Dude, I know that the vast majority of comments all say this same thing, but seriously, thank you for making these. You are truly doing a service to vehicle owners everywhere, and you're doing a fantastic job of demystifying car repair. Thank you for the work you're doing, and I wish you many continued years of great success!
Man. I've got to tell you--I have seen a lot of other very unprofessional engine-cleaning videos. I mean, there is a lot of enthusiasm out there, and that's great. But what you have done here is absolutely SUPERB. Thank you SO MUCH. If every video could be this clear and professional, it would change the RUclips atmosphere forever!
It took me 6 hours on a 2009 Camry I was selling and I followed all directions. I would say I got an extra $1000 when I sold it, the engine compartment looked amazing.

Great video dude. I'm a professional mechanic for Lamborghini and Aston Martin Beverly hills. I wanted to let you (and everyone else) know that in my professional opinion, from a mechanical standpoint, every caution and every recommendation was accurate. (About covering the engine, not spraying connectors and the components you mentioned with high pressure water, using the right protectant for plastics and rubber) seriously... well done. I learned a couple things too. :)
I use a spray silicon lubricant instead of the trim restore around the engine. It repels water away from electrical connections and keeps rubber from drying out and cracking.
I always come back to the Ole Chris Fix videos 😊 just picked up a 2000 Ranger with 225k miles on it. You can guess easily that majority of the parts needed replaced. But i snagged it for $800, and it ran, had a new timing belt, and some other new minor parts. watched some videos, replaced the entire front suspension due to rust and bad ball joints, new spark plugs, wires, and ignition coils, new exhaust due to the old one having holes through it, and a new power steering pump. It runs and rides great now! Watched the coolant flush video, about to do that in the coming week, watching this video now to clean the engine bay because there's oil and dirt nearly everywhere, so I need to find leaks lol. Keep up the great work dude. I'll never stop watching 👍
Did this on my 22 year old truck that was used exclusively on dirty and muddy roads, never had its engine bay cleaned, pretty much as bad as you could have it. And it turned out fantastic. Extremely good video Chris🤘🤘
@@macs2765 thanks for the reply! Nice to see something realistic, I know it was probably bad but I’m sure for a first timer it could end up taking a lot longer than what he’s saying!
@macs2765 how did you get the mud out of your radiator? Mine has a ton of mud caked on the back of it (facing the engine) and I think it’s starting to make my engine overheat. I wish @chrisfix showed the cleaning of the muddy truck’s engine bay and showed how to wash out the radiator and fans, etc. from caked on mud.
I’m so sorry Chris.. I’ve been seeing this video pop up on my recommendation’s for 3 years & never clicked on it /: It’s 2020 now & it’s seriously a regret of mine! Hey Chris, I work exclusively on aluminum (aircraft world) a nylon abrasive wheel is better for the aluminum. Metal wire wheels actually cause holes into the aluminum. Which will help deteriorate the aluminum over time
ChrisFix yeah! I ended up buying most of these tools so I can try it out on my car next week during my time off from work. I just hope I find a convenient way to store them so I don’t have to go looking for them the next time I detail 😂 What better than a ChrisFix bag!
I have seen this so many times and for so long (years) but it is a great, informative video. I did my engine bay by hand with a metal wire brush on the metal (intake manifold and other metal parts) and I took out my battery (cleaned that with a armor all wipes) and the tray cleaned that too. I also cleaned the fenders, the radiator support, and all I could with the wipes. Then I took off the light assembly (front and back) and cleaned them too. With all that work, I felt happy, the bay and car felt cooler, and It was easier for in the future to find any issues like leaks or damaged parts. Items I used: Armor All wipes Leather and vinyl spray cleaner 1 whole bounty hand towel 4-5 hours of cleaning and detailing. Great work Chrisfix
Hello, young man. I used your method to clean the engine bay of one of my cars. It worked very well. There were some things I did differently, though. The car is a 2007 Mercury Milan Premier V6 AWD. Removing parts from under the hood would have been very time consuming, so I worked around everything. I used Back To Black on the plastics, rubbers, and flat black components and Rust Reformer on the few rusty parts. The aluminum valve cover was a mess, so I did my best with a brass brush connected to my cordless drill and finished it off with that canned cottony polishing stuff. It didn't come out real good, but it's definitely better than it was. I also took the battery tray completely out which made a lot of room for cleaning and to lube my transmission shifter cable connection. I used spray on lithium grease for that and the hood release mechanism. It looks real good for a 10 year old car with 127,000 miles on it. Anyway, thanks for getting me going with your video.
For someone who is a car novice, these videos you make are perfect. I spent 9 years as a dealership tech and get asked all the time "how do I......?" And my reply is usually "RUclips search 'Chris Fix', he probably has a video for that."
I am not a car person AT ALL but Im a huge DIYer for carpentry. You just convinced me the car is not so scary. Thanks so much! This video is really exemplary quality, you are a great presenter. awesome channel
Thank you! I have been wanting to clean my engine but have been afraid of messing up the electronics. Most of the engine cleaning videos I have seen have not inspired confidence that there process was safe. Yours appears both safe an thorough. I now look forward to cleaning my engine.
This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen. Clear instructions. Clear audio and video. Easy to understand voice. No ‘ummms’ and ‘ahhs’. Very well thought out. Who are the 22,000 morons that gave this a thumbs down?
this isnt "working on your car" just cleaning parts that dont need to be cleaned, i mean if its really dirty and preventing damage to the engine i get it, but cleaning the fucking engine bay can do more harm then good if you dont know what you are doing.
Holy Jeez... This guy is truly the hero we NEED, but don't deserve. You're truly a blessing man, I'm really glad I stumbled upon this channel some time ago.
This guy is easily in the top 5 tubers in this field; he's a pro. With that said, you can get the engine wet if you know what you're doing, and I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have experience. When you're wetting it, it's important to keep the alternator covered and something stopping the intake up. With the battery disconnected, you won't mess up anything electrical, but make sure you've blown out all the connection points with compressed air. Again, if you're experienced, you can use a degreaser, but don't let it dry, and make sure it's thoroughly rinsed. Soap and water won't clean everything. You will need something stronger sometimes.
The only thing better than that would be watching Chris clean our cars! I have a feeling his final result will still be better than my attempt any day.

hey chris i’ve been watching your videos for so many years this video came up in my recommended and dude. 48 million views. you deserve everything you have bro. i’d watch these videos in some of the lowest times of my life and something about you saying “hey guys” genuinely made everything better. I love to see how far you’ve come. keep it up man❤️
Dude, my wife and I both tackled our 2015 V6 Mustang this after noon starting at like 3pm. We still weren't done after we lost sunlight. Had to resort to flashlights to attempt to finish the plastic protection and still was only able to half ass it until almost 8pm. Granted, the engine bay has never been cleaned, but it looked roughly as dirty as Chris's mustang, so I thought we would have similar results. While it does look ten times better than it did, it's still far from looking new. We're going to repeat the entire process again hopefully next weekend and bust out some cotton swabs because there are SO many hard to reach spots that seem impossible to get to even with wire brushes, pipe cleaners, a ton of soapy water, and detailing brushes.
Love going back and watching your older vids, this one from almost 3yrs ago and still super helpful. Great job and your hard work is paying off, wow how your channel has grown. Keep up the great work!
Same here man, Chris just has one of those voices I can listen to for several videos straight and his videos almost always work perfectly for what I’m doing.. he also almost always answers my DMs, comments, and more so even though he’s popular he feels like a real person. I find myself watching his videos even when I’m not doing work! Haha thanks Chris I hope we can meet some day!
Your editing, tone of your voiceover, and the way you present your subject matter are all EXCELLENT! The video keeps moving right along so it doesn't stagnate, and it still explains everything in crisp detail. It feels as though nothing has been left out, but still managed to keep it at a short 20 minute video. Well done! EDIT: oh, and the camera work is great too! Very good detail. Honestly, there isn't any sort of criticism I could think to offer to improve the way you do things.

Out of all the engine bay cleaning videos i’ve seen, yours seems to be the safest one to do. Others cover the air intake and battery and proceed to spray the engine using a pressure washer.
OUTSTANDING video, to the point, you covered a lot of ground, no obnoxious music, one of the best tutorials I've seen on RUclips. I've done things like over the years, have had several show cars and always prided myself on my attention to detail, I learned so much from this video, Well Done!!
Great job, with fantastic instructions and results! The only thing that would worry me is, when using just the brushes or microfiber wrapped brushes, and fishing them into the tight spaces, I would worry about loosening, not completely removing, wires and harnesses. Not being a big time car guy would mean that I wouldn’t know what things weren’t making the correct connections. So, I will have to be much more careful when getting into the small spaces, or mostly skip them. Either way, the engine compartment will look tons better! Thanks again.

Chris could shut down the car repair industry if he trained his employees one by one and started his own chain of repair shops across the country. Facts
No. That's the whole point of his channel, cheap front yard, DIY repairs. If he started a repair shop it would conflict with his whole channel. It's not the matter of the training, in fact, a mechanic probably has more mechanical knowledge of vehicles than him.

The cost-effective and alternative methods are great as well. You are a Legend as far as I'm concerned! You help so many people. The biggest High Five man!
I am a woman, but there is something so beautiful about keeping your car neat and clean even under the hood. I got lucky about 5 years ago and found a Toyota with less than 40k miles on it. After driving for 3 months when I check my oil.. it looked so clean that you could pour that oil into another car. I wouldn't without knowing if it's safe.. but that's how clean the oil runs through my car. I was used to driving older cars with black oil on the dip stick so I was obsessed with keeping my vehicle in the most prestine condition that I can manage. The thing I love the most about my car is that all the parts are covered with caps and plastic protectors. I wipe everything off regularly just to keep everything looking new. I saw a man pressure washing the leaves off in a car wash bay one day.. and I wasn't sure if I should do that with my car so I just used gloves and my hands and cleaned. I used a spray bottle and cloths . Im happy that I found a video like this that goes in depth about every part. I strongly appreciate the preparation and detailing steps. Your voice is so engaging! 😊😊😊😊❤ Thxx
The first few Chris Fix videos I watched were spoofs so it took me a while to realise that this was a genuine, informative video. And very well done it is, too. Great enthusiasm, hugely informative with lots of tips that wouldn't be obvious to the uninformed. Chris narrates his videos with so much enthusiasm and inflection that it's impossible to get bored. Great stuff!
Great vid! There's one thing I'd add that you didn't touch on because none of these cars had one. If you have a K&N or other cold air intake where the filter is basically an exposed cone, take the filter off even if you aren't planning on removing the main intake ductwork. You really don't want to get that filter wet if you're not ready to clean, dry, and re-oil it. However, this would be a great time to do just that. Do it before the rest of the engine bay so the filter has more time to dry. If you're not going through the enormous headache of removing that duct assembly, cover the open end with a plactic bag to keep water from getting in there. You dont want to suck water up through your air intake. You WILL seize your nice clean engine. This is also why you need your newly cleaned filter to be dry before oiling and attaching.
Step one, buy a commercial steam cleaner.... But if you dont have $1500 for a used steam cleaner, carpet cleaner cans (with the scrubber) and microfibers do the job. the carpet cleaner works great on cloth seats too. I cleaned a bench seat from a 92 F250 that was a construction truck it's whole life and it looked almost brand new after I was done, aside from a small tear from wear.

I also subbed.
I use a spray silicon lubricant instead of the trim restore around the engine. It repels water away from electrical connections and keeps rubber from drying out and cracking.
Mad respect.

just picked up a 2000 Ranger with 225k miles on it.

Items I used:
Armor All wipes
Leather and vinyl spray cleaner
1 whole bounty hand towel
4-5 hours of cleaning and detailing.

Great job, with fantastic instructions and results! Bad news: it'll take me 17 hours to accomplish this because of my OCD, and if my wife sees it, she'll expect just as much detail on the bathroom.
That comment made laugh hard. I know the feeling bro

Not only do you walk through every step, but you gave us links to all the products you are using so we don't need to spend hours searching for them or waste money buying the wrong items. I just wanted to say the way that he sounds all the time on his videos is very inspiring and it makes a person thinks that the job isn't so hard after all great job Chris you are in a role model because of your voice is very uplifting
I know I love it, though it makes everything seem like a piece of cake and then when everything goes horribly wrong you’re left crying on your driveway covered in grease blood and tears it stings that little extra
Sounds like Tony hawk lol
I just discovered your site, very informative and yes, your monologue is very uplifting, but, your speaking voice is clear and perfect for instruction videos. At times you get excited and speak a little faster for us old guys, but I just back up and listen again. I look forward to viewing more of your videos Chris! Thank you !
Chris could shut down the car repair industry if he trained his employees one by one and started his own chain of repair shops across the country. Facts
No because labour costs money
I highly doubt someone who doesnt even know the difference in a distributor and a coil pack would go far in the auto repair industry 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
No.
That's the whole point of his channel, cheap front yard, DIY repairs.
If he started a repair shop it would conflict with his whole channel.
It's not the matter of the training, in fact, a mechanic probably has more mechanical knowledge of vehicles than him.
@@jeffglover262 i highly doubt anybody gives a shit about what you think

Dude, you are an absolute godsend. Your attention to detail, thorough explanation, scientific knowledge and balls-out enthusiasm have guided me from engine ignorance to badass chick mechanic!! I learn something new with every new video. I owe you big time.
Hello
👋 Hi
Glad to hear the videos have been helpful!
You definitely break it down so that almost anyone can follow along and do these things that feel daunting, or as many, (myself included sometimes) are just plain ignorant to.

Just finished my first engine bay cleaning! Thank you as ever for the clear easy directions! On to the next car!

MAKE A HOW TO SUPER CLEAN YOUR INTERIOR.
LIKE IF YOU AGREE!!!
I am looking for a car with a dirty interior! My friend says she has one so we will see!
That would be awesome!
You're the best ChrisFix!

ChrisFix you can do mine 😂😂😂
