Anyone else felt satisfied when the nylon brush fitted perfectly inbetween the valve cover and the pulley part? Great video man. Greetings all the way from the Nürburgring.
Did this not too long ago and my gas pedal started sticking. Consensus from some forums was that the water pressure might have pushed dirt and debris into the rotating mechanism of the throttle body (TB). Prior to me owning my car, an old lady owned the car for 24 years and had never cleaned the engine bay so it was pretty filthy. Some TB cleaner at your local auto parts store will fix it right up if this ever happens to you haha.
TB cleaner, brake cleaner, or simply soapy water on your throttle cable and spring. Soak it good and maybe use a brush if you can fit it on the cable and spring, make sure to clean the cable and activate the throttle and clean between the pulley. Then any multipurpose grease/gun cleaner/oil works on the spring and wire/pulley. No WD40 though.
Same happened to me i had to keep clutching in and kicking my pedal I used some lube cant remember if it was silicone based or what on the throttle cable and some light oil on the return sprung and throttle shaft Use a motorbike cable lube tool and spray from the top down it should fill the cable in 5 seconds without a air leak then go in the cabin and wipe the excess overnight.. my clean up was next to nothing
The engine came out pretty clean. I would detail and clean my 2003 honda civic engine every few months. It may not be the coolest looking engine but it felt good to have a pretty clean engine all the time. Keep up the videos, always waiting and excited to watch.
After I clean my engine in a similar way and let dry completely . I spray 303 Protectant liberally all over the engine compartment . Specifically to resist plastic and rubber parts / components from drying out and cracking . It dries without any issue at all , though it willl attract surface dirt . Which after around 6 months ? I will do the same again . Of course making sure I do this if possible in the summer months at least for one application . I stuff 1-2 microfiber towels into the air intake to prevent water from getting it .
Have now used this to clean house siding and it performed well ruclips.net/user/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX I also bought some wand extensions which enabled higher washing without needing a ladder. I recommend both. This unit arrived quickly, was easy to assemble (only had to attach the handle), and arrived in perfect condition. The only very slight downgrade from a perfect score is the design has a low handle and requires pulling from the side. My old washer was an upright model, while this one is more horizontal. Other than that, it's perfect for my needs. It has a great deal of pressure and more easily cleaned the house siding, porch rails and concrete than did my older model. The engine is a bit louder, as well, but the total time to clean was reduced by the more powerful spray. Did I mention it starts on the first or second pull every time?!! I am definitely happy with this model.
Me ditto, 2002 V6. Always kept the engine clean, it is SOO much easier to touch up an engine that hasn't been allowed to get filthy, then coming in and trying to clean it.
Great job dude! Your videos are always helpful and high quality. I actually just got my Civic running after 3 very long months because i took the head to get machined and didn't have enough money to have it put back together so i did it myself. I'm so happy to drive it again 😁
I did when i did my pick up. Also used a garden hose and sprayer, and masked off fuse box, ecu, alternator, etc. Came out perfect without a pressure washer
Why? Water isn't as good of a conductor as the layman thinks. It's actually quite poor. You need electrolytes like salt or baking soda to make it conductive. You can soak that battery all you want, you're fine. Just don't soak electronics.
Good for YOU! Nicely done! Ppl think it's wrong to WASH engine bays, I do NOT. I feel greasy/dirty engines are like "frying an egg". When they are "clean" they breathe easier/cool quicker/stay cooler. PLUS, nicer to work on. I use Simple Green on stubborn dirt, but hose my engine bays several times a year at self serve car washes but dont push trigger & that spray is adequate to clean off dust. Yours looks SO much better! 👍
now to address the reasons why all that grease and grime got all over the engine, great work man i just found your channel today, I love the restoration side of your build
I clean my cars engines once a year. during the hottest days in the summer, and then let the car sit for 24 hours with the hood open. Love the feeling of it cleaned...it makes mechanics happy also.
Heyyyy. I know you said you wanted to keep the engine stock, but there's this cold air intake called an icebox, and it looks super oem plus while adding a little more hp and pep, while not being too expensive.
I’m so glad I found your channel. I’m looking into getting myself an 90’s Honda Civic soon and it was awesome finding out you live in the same town as me

Always a pleasure, Err' Day. This is a great mix between OG's hour long talk about how rich I am and TRC's turn 5 hours into 5 minutes video format. Hope to see you go full time here soon so you can stunt on these fools!
That distributor looks really easily accessed. Might be better just to clean it, and dry it afterwards on an engine this dirty. That's what I did on my Volvo. Also, I've found that plug wells often collect water, so pulling the plug wires from the start isn't a bad idea. Then dry them out with a shop vac, and compressed air after cleaning. I wasn't clear on why a wheel cleaner was used. I'd choose a degreaser.
He stated once or twice at the beginning he used wheel cleaner because it's got some iron/rust inhibitors (fine rotor dust gets everywhere and then oxidizes, and contributes futher to dissimilar metal corrosion), and works well for cleaning grease and grime which while not as oily as an engine brakes tend to get pretty gunky. Being a wheel cleaner it's most likely formulated to not damage or etch various kinds of bare metal from steel to aluminum as well. I personally just spray everything down with klean strip paint thinner made from mineral spirits, and or purple power/simple green for less soiled cleaning projects. I got a siphon wand for my compressor, and I'll just give the engine a light spray and let it soak. Then scrub it all with a few nylon brushes by hand or stuck in the cordless drill chuck. Give it one light spray to get the gunk flowing off, another quick scrub with the brushes (after giving them a quick cleaning with compressed air) and then just blow all the dirt, oil, and sludge off with compressed air and it's Gucci (may require one extra rinse, and blow dry) Granted on a really dirty engine bay, you may need to do it once more from the beginning. I've cleaned nearly 1500 engines this way and never had a problem with it damaging paint, electronics, plastics, rubbers, epoxy resins, or coil windings in alternators or stators. It's just damn messy and a pain to deal with if you don't have a containment/runoff treatment system, which we had at the old shop but I don't have at home currently. Another plus is that any residue from them will evaporate off shortly and you don't have to worry about it shorting anything out.
I clean my engine bay regularly, easy to spot any fluid leaks when clean, if you work on the engine hands are cleaner, never had a problem but be careful on rollers from the belt and alternator, degreaser will clean too good them bearings and the will fail alot faster
Yes!!!!! Waited so long for this video after you posted a sneak peek in your ig. But Is that really safe? What bout the sensors? The battery? The fuse box? I mean, you soaked it good but will it not affect the circuits?
All the sensors and what not I believe have seals otherwise how would you be able to drive in rain snow or be able you wash your car not being sarcastic just I’m sure they must be water tight
before you pressure washer the engine bay....disconnect the battery or remove it completely to clean the battery tray area too and to prevent short circuit
Motorplast is a fantastic product. For engines that are in a little better shape, Vonixx makes a ceramic engine bay coating called V-Energy. Can be used on Plastic, Metal and Rubber. It's phenomenal and super fairly priced for a ceramic coating.
Some steps I do, mostly to make certain that engine WILL restart: 1. Cover the alternator w plastic. 2) Cover the air inlet with plastic! 3. Then either clean the alt carefully by hand or jsut leave it dirty - is a broken alternator worth it to get the engine completely clean?!
I spend 3 days cleaning all my parts when assembling my 96 ex engine and trans....only to find an oil leak in the trans on the first drive....time to pull it back out lol
Black soap works EXTREMELY well as a wheel cleaner if you want to go cheap! Just add black soap and hot water and holy crap you will see a good difference!

Hey Anthony are soon going to do the rear disc swap on the red civic cuz I order some si rear disc and I been waiting for you to make a video so I can Learn
This is an amazing transformation! I do wish you had shown how dirty the pavement was underneath the car or if you had used something to catch much of the oil, grease, and basically dirt. Maybe it's a non-issue, though.... it seems no one mentions this during their engine cleaning videos.
I can’t wait to do this to my engine bay! I’m rebuilding my D16Y7 and and some everything is basically out already so it’s gonna look so good and I’m so excited. Also I had a quick question about your b-roll; do you use a gimbal or are just really good with a handheld lol. Cuz I saw in that last clip you were clearly using a handheld and like a skateboard lol but was just curious
@@BlueCivid there's some pretty good video stabilization software out there nowadays. My new phone has it and it works quite well much to my surprise, I mean it's not as smooth as say the gopro hypersmooth software but for something that came as standard software I'm not disappointed one bit. That in combo with a self stabilization gimbal mount would make for some great film no doubt.
I wouldnt use purple power or simple clean because it cheaper, I would use it because its proven! They would do just as good as that wheel cleaner if not better!
You should remove the negative battery terminal before cleaning engine bay or use a pressure washer it's necessary bro. By the way your engine bay looks like brand new 😄
I cover mine up, and don't spray on it directly - same thing for the alternator. For cleaning the battery you really want to take the opportunity to neutralize the acidy-dirt, I do it with a solution of baking soda and water
Highly recommend Aerotech 303 for your interior. Its amazing product, and doesn't put down that oily, messy glair that Amour-all does. Nice job, great video, enjoyed watching you. And congrats on a good looking engine bay. Super nice job!!
@@hartlanddetailer5670 look for the msds and chemical makeup of the 303 and find the non aviation marketed equivalent. That's part of the reason it's so damn pricey, once something is made for aircraft that's an instant tenfold markup on price. Meguires makes some fantastic products though, and you get what you pay for.
I use 303 automotive (same product, costs about half the price because it's not 'aviation') diluted about 2:1 (2 parts 303 1 part water), slightly diluted for engine bays because if it's not diluted it does leave a tiny film that will catch dust in an engine bay that moves air, but when diluted it still leaves behind protection and visual pop, and also extends out your product just a bit more.
Can i pressure wash the area on the block below the exhaust manifold? I dont wanna get water where it shouldn’t be. Great video by the way! Straight to the point 👌
The problem with these older civics is they are OLD and aging. If theres no leaks then it makes sense to clean the engine bay, but if theres oil leaks, then good luck cause it will end up dirty less than a week and dirty just like it was before. so its best to replace parts first, and fix any problems it has, then clean the engine bay. Learned from experience
Anyone else felt satisfied when the nylon brush fitted perfectly inbetween the valve cover and the pulley part?

Have any tips on getting rid of coolant/degreaser stains in the engine bay and back some shine from that dull ashy appearance?
Can i pressure wash the area on the block below the exhaust manifold? I dont wanna get water where it shouldn’t be. Great video by the way! Straight to the point 👌
Yes, just make sure your slave cylinder cover is intact so you’re not spraying into the clutch housing
@@ALLDAYANTHONY seems like the cover is in decent shape. Thanks man!
I personally use purple power but it can stain the paint if left on to long
That was satisfying to watch. Good job!
100k soon let’s go 👈
