I was always afraid of using a pressure washer on the bay and used a spray bottle on my PassatCC 2015. Now I have a CX5, I can be more confident by covering the electrical component box, alternator, and the intake then rinsing slightly. This is by far the best vid I have seen of someone using a Pressure Washer on Engine Bay.
7:04, definitely More than half an ounce 😉 Good tip on the hood liner. I didn’t do that once and then while moving the vehicle from street to garage and the engine warmed up, the headlight fogged up a lot because it made so much steam
What works great for me: Foaming Surfex HD @1:50 with the IK Pro 12. Dwell for as long as possible, rinse with hot pressure washer. When rinsing anything sensitive, take some distance and take some time.
“Safety first kids, which you shouldn’t do that” as you point the gun at your face hahahah man I was dying laughing thank you for that! Thanks for the tips too!
Great video! I’m a little old lady who loves detailing her car. Now I have the confidence to clean my engine bay! I don’t have a blower, and you answered my question (don’t have to do).
I always cover the alternator(s) with a plastic grocery bag as best I can. Batteries as well and I hand clean/dry them and put new terminal protectant on them. Just a courteous approach I use. With diesels, most modern ones have two alternators and two batteries. Many aren’t AGM batteries and will leak/spray out the caps. Important area to focus on to ensure they’re clean and free of corrosion.
Just rinse it with water and slap it with a foaming washer then rinse it again until the foam gone. Then use dry towels to dry out those areas that are reachable to your hands. Afterward, circle around your residential area or take the car for more than 20 minutes or so, so that the engine bay is dry and all its area from the heat inside the hood.
Hey 👋 MR.Oscar Love all your videos thank you appreciated for sharing your experience I always watch your videos I got more time able to watch it 2021 more 2022 after new year’s ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥♥️♥️♥️♥️ ✊✊✊✊✊God Bless I work in construction 6 days a week I’m a detailer myself only detailing family vehicles & some times friend’s vehicles I started washing family cars at the age 14 I’ve been detailing 4 years now time to time
I always find your videos and cleaning techniques focusing on making a profit (more money for less time) rather than doing a stellar job. That may be fine for you in your location and financial situation, but it leads to *not* doing the best job possible and in the best way. That's important when you are washing cars for a living but it doesn't really help anyone that wants to do the job right. Good luck.
@@DetailGroove Then why would anyone ever hire you if they want the job done right? I understand expenses and that a business owner needs to make a profit to actually stay in business. But I won't pay someone to do the same job that I can. Here's an example, when I need maintenance on my bike I load it on a top-grade bike rack that's only used for this purpose, then drive it 40 miles to a bike shop when there are at least 25 shops that are closer. A bike shop owned by a guy that is so much like me we almost always end up arguing about something. A bike shop that charges premium prices because it offers the best service I can find. I guess I just wouldn't pay someone to do the fastest cheapest job possible to save a buck. It's like eating fast food... what a waste. Good luck.
I just usually just disconnect the negative cable. I don’t use a pressure washer. Just regular garden hose. I use simple green let it sit a little than I just scrub and agitate.
Why disconnect battery cable for. U don't need. If u worry about water. Car goes through rain and snow storms. Just cover fuse box and air filter if u running cold air filter. Noting to worry about.
But they sell an attachment that you connect to your pressure washer gun and it has wheels so you usually roll it underneath the car and trigger it and it has forgets that shoots up up
@@DetailGroove not thick axle grease….. you can remove some but that’s multiple applications. I’m talking about, getting it better so the auto technician have a better site of what they are looking at. Because the water jets aren’t that strong. I believe they are in between 30-40° nozzle. I just let the solution dwell before I rinse it off
You don’t see your problems in a matter of minutes, once that water seeks down into those electronics, you’ll start to notice problems a few days to a few weeks later. Pretty detail though.
Ok silly question, I've read to where when you pull the seats you need to disconnect the battery to keep the air bags deploying. Don't know if that's correct but what's the purpose of disconnecting the battery for engine bay cleaning. Thank you.
I believe it’s for keeping the battery dry , safer to keep the electronics dry . Also for disconnecting the seats situation , that’s for interior deep cleaning
@mike (battery) because you can short circuit some of the electronics if you get water on the battery which short circuits some of the electronics. (Seats) you can accidently set the airbags off in the seats if you were to pull it out while the battery is plugged in. Which you would have to replace the whole seat if that happens.
Maybe to wear the safety glasses that have a seal around the edges . And I would expect if you were cleaning a heavily oiled / greased engine . Of course I think with a gasoline powered pressure washer to even wear googles also that have seals around the lenses .
Lol great video & this is the way to do it but take it from me been detailing for 23 years steer away from engine cleaning. It’s easy work and easy money buutttttttttttttttt it only takes one jackass client who doesn’t understand logic & boom you’re liable for an engine or alternator. Had a client driving a s550 “from the auction” engine failed after a few months. She randomly contacted me and asked how did I clean her engine. I couldn’t lie, she was a partner in a huge law firm so I bit the bullet and payed the price smh.. now the best you will get from me is a wipe down with a degreaser and a can of tire dressing lol. Great video and good luck detailing fam.
I think this is the best approach with the same results…I blow out the leaves and debris, spray a degreaser, agitate, and wipe off with a damp microfiber towel, and then again with a dry one…and then spray with a dedicated dressing ….looks great and I don’t have to worry about damaging any part of the engine with water 😊
Need to more more about cars befor detailing bays need to cover all pulleys every pulley on the belt they will go bad within a few weeks if you dont and cover all wire connectors fuse boxes coil packs. Never use pressure water under the hood. Ive replace more pulleys and alternators and ac compressor from bay details than i can count and the no start and miss fire after from connectors getting wet and caps and plug wires. Want to use less water as possible this is the fastest wat to get good clean bay but my guys had to use alot of time and hand cleaning if someone wanted a bay detail charged alot cause we tryed to stay away from a detail alway give it a good wipe down but detail like this i talk them out of it
honestly this is over processing. detergent the whole bay and under hood. and starts scrubbing. i understand the depth of cleaning but your process is just too extra. I used to work at detailing shop the result is just a clean as new.
Unfortunately, I saw your video late. Today I washed my car with brake cleaner spray. Now my car does not start and the window lifter does not work. Also, the light above my car does not work. When I start the car, the belt rotates for 1 second and stops. What is the problem? What should I do? ?

My engine bay is sooo dirty from driving down the dirt roads where I live and I’m so scared to mess something up. Great video and good explanations.
I’m to scared to do this lol

What is your dilution ratio for the apc you are using
I’m guessing 1 to 4?
Does it matter weather you use brushes with synthetic or natural bristles in the engine bay?
Your car can’t tell the difference between natural and synthetic fibers
Do you have a link to the blower you used? I don't see it in the description. Thanks for the vid!!

What do we exactly need to cover?
How should I charge for this? Just for an engine bay detail?
"Please excuse the rain, apparently there's a hurricane coming through" 🤣🤣
Can i use car shampoo?

Cover the alternator with a plastic bag -better safe than sorry

What fans u use to dry interior?
Dri-Eaz Dri-Pod

That wouldn't come close to removing oil and grease that's dripped down
@@DetailGroove no it wouldn’t but it’s better than what it was
50% better but I do use zep heavy duty degreaser and presoak with a pump sprayer

did he clarify if he’s going to “rinse off?”
Nicely done!
What type of dressing do you use?
Looks like Hyper Dressing. Linked in the description box as well.
Hyper dressing is good
A leaf blower works really well
Much needed video 🙌
I have a question you didn't talk much do you disconnect the battery ,
I’d like to see your price list bro!!!
1:48 mi hombre!
Great video man
I would remove the plastic engine cover first and if there were other ones that could be removed .
Way cool brother 👍 yup just common sense people 👍
The way you cleaned around that blue rag in the engine bay drove me nuts..lol
but great video .. subbed
