As a kid, I liked many songs, but when I grew up and understood more about life, I realized that 80's music was loaded with lyrical depth and emotion. This song has an interesting juxtaposition, musically it's kind of upbeat, but these lyrics are quite poetic and sad. Such a perfectly arranged song.
It was a combination of lyricism of people who actually had thought about what they wanted to put into their art, and artistry to make that consumable for those who were out to sell records/tapes/CDs. The problem with music today isn't that artists aren't artists, it is that too many people in charge of labels/platforms are chasing dollars to let these artists develop 'properly'. There are many recent songs that touch me in the same way these hits do, they are just mired in the swamp of fly-by-night operations looking for a buck, or megacorps churning out gunk like they're doing us a favor.

Hadn’t heard this song in a long time and the other day it just popped in my head and I had to listen to it. I still love it the same as when it first came out. Much respect to Phil Collins for being here when we need to hear his music..
For ended relationships, this song is pitch perfect, it makes me remember my lost relationship of 10 years. I feel sorry about the health condition of Phil Collins right now, the good thing is that he deliver us his daughter, a brilliant actress.
We all took it for granted at the time like you say. But we all knew deep down that the 80's was a special time. Phil Collins was the soundtrack of that decade
This song was the reason my son was born. I left my husband with our 2 little girls because things just weren't right with us. I was afraid of him so i left with my girls , but then I heard this song and I decided to go back. That's when I got pregnant with my son. He was such a Blessing to me. He changed me in so many ways. We lost him to Cancer when he was 32. I thought that it would be a wake up call for my husband, but it never was. We are still together but nothing will ever be the same again. I still listen to this song to this very day. I will always love it ! Thank you Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford the both of you for being there so much for me in my life. 😘☺️💖🙏💙💙🎸🥁🎹🎶
Phil, when i was a young tweenager and getting interested in rock,my mom instantly approved your music. She said your songs were full of wisdom, and great messages. Genesis and Phil Collins will be timeless. Music transcends time, imagine decades from now people listening to this for the first time and think what a time those people must have had, even though most are already gone or can’t remember.
Right on, brother! When Phil sings about love lost, you can really feel it. You can really see yourself in his lyrics. Hope you guys are still going strong!

If i was to compile a list of songs that have a deep meaning to me personally, this one would definitely be in my top 10! I've said it before and i'll say it again, the 80's, best decade for music!
Same here!
No it was made better by the 60's and 70's....it evolved!
Hadn’t heard this song in a long time and the other day it just popped in my head and I had to listen to it. I still love it the same as when it first came out. Much respect to Phil Collins for being here when we need to hear his music..
Genesis
"Throwing It All Away"
Invisible Touch

Beautiful song. Those were the days.
Id grown up through the 80s and must admit id forgotten how good they were . Im back Thank you
*Time traveling with Phil is always a good Saturday night* ❤😊
❤
Hi there, Good day to you and it's nice seeing you here.
For ended relationships, this song is pitch perfect, it makes me remember my lost relationship of 10 years. I feel sorry about the health condition of Phil Collins right now, the good thing is that he deliver us his daughter, a brilliant actress.
Growing up as a kid in the 80s, Phil’s voice was the soundtrack of my youth. I can still hear this blasting from the speakers at Shrewsbury pool.
When I hear Phil sing the hook in that amazing voice, every hair on my body stands on end. Even now. "She's throwin' it all away...' Just so pretty.
One of favorite songs ever made , this was great 80’s music
Truly a legend.
This song always touches my heart and mind..gives me chills at times.
@philcollinsfanspage Over 15 years at least.
A truly excellent song. Beautiful melody.
Anne Hajdu agreed
You’re right about that!!!
Who’s listening to this in 2024?
I just did !! Best decade ever !!
Have the album Invisible Touch in the vehicle. So good. Best to you!
And 2025 and 2026 and on and on

🙋🏻♂️
Love this song about loving and caring for each other in life !
Phil, when i was a young tweenager and getting interested in rock,my mom instantly approved your music. She said your songs were full of wisdom, and great messages. So you were my first, and at 46 years of age,you are still one of my absolute favs, and your music is still relateable. My fav song is Land Of Confusion. Your music helped me thru some tough times. Cheers, mate! God bless!
This song just gives me the freakin goosebumps!!! Just brilliant!!❤️❤️❤️
One of the greatest ballads ever.
Agreed!!!
I took the 80s for granted. 🤦♂️
We all did!
Check out those 80 styles for sure!
Ain't that the truth....
Yeah we all did such magical fun times that are gone. I believe we will find it again someday...
We all did...damn
One of the best artists ever!! Loving Phil Collin’s music for 35 years🤩🤩♥️♥️
Got to see No Jacket tour.
Wish I'd have gotten to see Genesis.
But Phil, and his marvelous band, were great!
Brilliant lyrics, they have such meaning to so many. Im sure a lot of us have loved and lost and have the regrets. My advice, if you get a good partner, make the most of your time together.
I lost the guy i loved for 18 months because i never told him and now hes gone out of my life hes married now last time i heard i will always hold him in my heart i threw it away
One of the greatest bands ever
The production on this song 🎶 is immaculate
Best of Britain Genesis are with the greats . My college days. Genesis was being played everywhere . ❤❤❤
My song omg ❤❤❤❤❤
Greatest band ever
When I was in grade school, really young, someone made me feel stupid for loving Phil Collins. 35 years later, it's good to know that I just have good musical taste. He's a musical every man. Does it all, right?
He's a genius
This is when music had feeling and meant something! I love Genesis! 💖💖💖💖 oh and TALENT was required to be a star!!!
What word to describe Phil Collins’s voice? Pure. Silvery. Rich. Clear, yet multi layered. One of a kind.
Genesis and Phil Collins will be timeless. Music transcends time, imagine decades from now people listening to this for the first time and think what a time those people must have had, even though most are already gone or can’t remember.
Perhaps the most underrated song by Genesis. Paired with this legendary "behind the scenes" video. I will always love this video.
Told my ex to really listen to this song and about 2 weeks she came back. Good job Phil!
Right on, brother! When Phil sings about love lost, you can really feel it. You can really see yourself in his lyrics. Hope you guys are still going strong!
From an autistic point of view, mostly algebraic logic, your sentence means that she came back to Phil! Great song, good for you, happy ending!
BS,,, you date men...
So she wants Phil Collins, not you..LOL
The eighties had songs that had hidden messages. I think that's why I like the money music from then.
One of the BEST bands ever to record! I have loved Genesis from the beginning but especially Phil Collins..his voice is impeccably glorious to listen to..his songs have made my youth so memorable and all whom I was blessed to have known.. I will never forget those days..not ever..❤️🙏❤️🌈❤️
You know I know baby that I don't want to go!!! Such a great line
What a beautiful classic song thank you phil ❤❤❤❤❤❤
