Phil gave us so much great music, working so hard to entertain us, for so long! But he was also "burning the candle at both ends" for so long that he now has physical and neurological "consequences" to pay in his health induced retirement. Hopefully Phil can get enjoyment from _All_ of his Genesis bandmates and others as they play and sing his Genesis song$ (like Steve Hackett does), and his so£o songs! Phil's son Nic Collins is also a (pretty young) drummer - he played on *_The Last Domino_* tour with his dad, and will be the touring drummer for Mike + The Mechanics (they sometimes play a Genesis song or two, on tour on their tours). Phil Collins nearly gave us all a veritable "soundtrack", to live with and learn from - I miss his stage presence, his spot-on mimicking abilities behind the drums, and his... normal like humanness (because he couldn't hold relationship(s)
together very well, helped make for his ability to properly sing Motown tho). Phil had a real ability to connect us to our heart, in his music. .. . And like you @bobtache ,I miss a couple "someone(s)' too ; My daft, punk a§z nephew, that keeps choosing a grudge, over his aunt and myself. And my bestest 'little' "roleplaying"/writing friend - Kayla whateverherlast nameisbecause"Idon't remember..." (🎶 🎶 )... I wonder how that (now) overly thiccc bogan c\/nπ troublemaker and homewrecker is doing in herNewtown about right now... ‽ (and also maybe sometimes I still wonder how Lizzy is still doing with her "new family...) .
      Tempus Fugit, as they say...

Born in 1983, now I am 40. Our mother is white and father is black. We did not grow up with the “perfect” upbringing, but that only made us stronger.
Fast forward to the age of 8, my mother and stepfather gave us two choices (to go to our first concert ever) gensis or MC Hammer. Conflicted, for various reasons. My twin brother and I choose gensis. Some kids made fun of us, and I often thought to myself “I don’t belong”
However, we loved it! And never ONCE thought otherwise it was a bad decision. Madison, Wisconsin… I will always remember it.
Listening to this song decades later brings back so many good memories! All of their songs just felt different, and this song always hits home! When you know good music, you just know 🙏🏽

But you failed to do that so let me educate you since you refuse to read and call me an idiot would 0 proof. UC Nazism and communism only differ in one single aspect and that is that Nazis believe in national socialism, and communist believe in global socialism. If you're curious in the origins of fascism you can start by reading on how fascism started based on Marx's prediction of Revolution that was supposed to happen between the bourgeoisie and nobility that never happened. If you're interested in fascism you can start by reading about the father of fascism Benito Mussolini. Just a fun fact for the uneducated, Mussolini's brand of fascism differed in Hitler's because Mussolini did not believe in racism, an aspect of fascism that Hitler add it into his version later on. “Do you like Phil Collins?”
“I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism.
Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.”

But when it comes to Genesis, Phil Collins as solo, there isn't any hit that we get tired of listening to. Collins has always had his critics...been laughed at and the butt of many jokes. Talent is talent...Phil, as with all of the band members of Genesis, were awesome in their time...musicianship of the very best kind......it's been far too long since I've played this deeply moving song.
Many only recall the Gabriel days...I've seen both, many, many times. Both have their merits. Phil made the band explode internationally, and Peter did his own great things.
    Superb stuff..well posted!

I'm gonna be honest, I actually think Peter Gabriel is overrated. Now don't get me wrong, I will ALWAYS love Peter, and I have absolutely NOTHING against him as a performer. However, from my point of view, I feel that Phil's critics have built Peter up too much, to the point where I can't really see what all the hype is about.

I agree with you. I love Collins' stuff with Genesis and his solo hits, wow! I think this is one of my two favorite songs and "Land of Confusion," is my favorite video. (The latter because of the political idiocy that is seen in the video, yet very relevant in recent years, the former because it calms me down at times.)
My favorite Genesis track, by the way, is "Follow You, Follow Me." I also love Peter Gabriel's solo songs, "Sledgehammer," and "In Your Eyes," and I enjoy Mike and the Mechanics' "Silent Running," yet I should look more into some of the band's other hits and more Peter Gabriel songs.

Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. Phil Collins voice cannot be replicated by anyone. Man was one of a kind, best thing Genesis did in terms of making it big and commercial. One of the most successful artists in history, even rappers have wanted to and have worked with him. Disney was obsessed with the man, he did music for almost all movies in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Definitely one of a kind.

Is one of a kind. Phil's still not too shabby for a man in his early 70s. It's a shame about his back issues though.

To think that Genesis were looking for a new singer when Peter Gabriel left,,, and they almost overlooked the drummer who stood in whilst they auditioned for a new front man. Thank goodness they kept with Phil.

When we have millions of "moments" in a lifetime and just a few beats of one song can instantly transport you to one of those "moments" even if it was 35 years ago, well, THAT'S what a great song can do. ❤

One of the hardest things in live i had to do was leave the only person I have ever loved. He did not care for me, I had to go. Leave him.

All that time I was searching
    And nowhere to run to
    It started me thinking
Wondering what I could make of my life
    And who'd be waiting
Asking all kinds of questions to myself
    But never finding the answers
Crying at the top of my voice
    And no one listening
All this time, I still remember everything you said
Oh, oh, and there's so much you promised
    How could I ever forget
Listen, you know I love you, but I just can't take this
You know I love you, but I'm playing for keeps
Although I need you, I'm not gonna make this
You know I want to, but I'm in too deep
    So listen, listen to me
    Ooh, you must believe me
I can feel your eyes go through me
    But I don't know why
    Oh, I know you're going, but I can't believe
It's the way that you're leaving
It's like we never knew each other at all
And it may be my fault
I gave you too many reasons, being alone
    When I didn't want to
I thought you'd always be there
    And I almost believed you
All this time, I still remember everything you said
    Oh, oh, oh, oh
And there's so much you promised, how could I ever forget
Listen, you know I love you, but I just can't take this
You know I love you, but I'm playing for keeps
Although I need you, I'm not gonna make this
You know I want to, but I'm in too deep
    So listen, listen to me
'Cause I can feel your eyes go through me
It seems I've spent too long
Only thinking about myself, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Now I want to spend my life
    Just caring 'bout somebody else
Listen, you know I love you, but I just can't take this
You know I love you, but I'm playing for keeps
Although I need you, I'm not gonna make this
You know I want to, but I'm in too deep
    You know I love
I love you, but I just can't take this
    Anymore
You know I love you, love you
I love, love, love, love, you
But I can't take this anymore
You know I love, I love you
I love you, love you, love you
    I can't take this anymore
You know I love, I love, love you, love, love you
But I can't take this no more
    You know I love
I love but I can't take this no
No, no, no, no, no, oh, oh, more
    Ah, ah, ah
