My wedding song, but I swear it was playing in my head the first time I met my love, "The light the heat ... I am complete." It really was love at first conversation. So cheesy, but true. I just knew. And a lot of people thought we wouldn't make it because he was six years younger. Here we are, though, almost 25 years later, still going strong, two boys, two dogs, military life. Keep on fighting the good fight. He's always been the one. There was never a question.
To tell someone that their eyes are so brilliant that their beauty far exceeds that of "a thousand churches", is probably the most profound compliment you can ever pay someone.
@@paperclips4113 Say it to somebody else. Hold the person you want to be held by and tell them the lovely things you want them to say. Be the love you wish the receive, and maybe you'll never see the need to receive it.
Because the compliment he's paying is not to a person. It's too an entity. There's only an entire video venerating ya mans that puts one arm up, and the other pointed down. I can't elaborate further.
Such a raw beautiful song. No auto tune or generic millennial whoop. People often say that things were better in the old days and are clearly deluded but when it comes to music they are totally correct.

The epitome of an ‘80s masterpiece. There are not enough words to fully summarize the 1980s. While never perfect, such a memorable decade in the course of human history when the world seemed a little less dark. Feels increasingly like it will never come again. 😔 My sincerest thanks for sharing this timeless classic. 🙏🏻
We were younger and life was simpler, the internet and phones hadn't taken over our lives yet to make us feel so overwhelmed and helpless about the terrible things mankind does. But there are still good days ahead, and even good music. However, we are so lucky to have experienced it and will always have it, thanks to the internet (that double edged sword). Much peace and love ❤️
My parents grew up during these times and listened to these fantastic artists. I’m thankful that they did and were able to share the greatest era of music to me.
@@shellyfagan5794 I remember Phil Collins in an interview. The interviewer said, wow your songs are so deep so meaningful, where does that come from? His reply was no where I just write they don't mean any thing. I personally thought that was a fabulous answer. Singers writers etc aren't spiritual masters, sure they are creative but we all are. The power to give birth is more of a spiritual connection to the universe than writing or singing a song.
Great times they were, musically for certain. Do you remember waiting for someone's new album to come out, getting it, going home and excitedly listening from start to finish with the headphones on? Such happy times!

I go see my mum and dad now and a nice bottle of wine we stick that album on ! Never had an album I’ve listened to that brings back great memories ! Wish he still had the Orion
Listening as a grown man at 40 with a family of his own. This takes me back to being a kid instantly. One of, if not one of the most emotional songs every written. The 80's were incredible. Always feel my eyes welling up when I hear this.

Bigskunkyherer I agree...but the fact is that in 2050’s , we’ll say , these days’ music can’t match with 2000’s, 2010’s and 20’s ! Its just our emotional connection evoked with this past memories dipped in music ...great music comes in every age bro :) but again 70’s 80’s and 90’s music is mesmerizing unequivocally.
@5,ooo LightYears Away True that! Of course, back in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, at least the good stuff was more played on the radio and MTV. You have to work harder to find the good music nowadays.
Your momma had great taste! I sang this to my newborn at CVS 2 days ago. "Bb girl, this is mister Peter Gabriel," as I sang it aloud. "They don't make great music like this anymore " I hope you find moments that continue to remind you of her presence in your life. Looking at life through her eyes ❤
I was born in '76. Grew up watching MTV religiously for hours every day in the '80s. So Peter Gabriels music and videos had a huge impact on me. I was mesmerized by them both. Still love this in 2019, man...
What a great time to grow up in the 70’s/80’s. MTV was like a music video buffet after previously having to wait every Friday night for Friday night videos. But just like every other buffet, people stop going after a while.
This song makes me instantly tear up. I miss my childhood, the 80s, the lack of hatred, the feelings of peace & excitement... If you didn't live thru the 80s/90s you just don't know, but this song perfectly encapsulates how it felt to live thru it.
I agree with your thoughts... however the lack of hate? Hate for??? Did u live in America then? Respectfully... the lack of hate or the lack of camera phones?
Maybe learn a second language I picked up on many good 80s songs in Spanish I had missed out before when the 90s rolled in I was ready for some new stuff .Though I have to admit not as good as 60s,70s & 80s but way better than now I suggest maybe Italian. I took up Spanish because of my grandparents.
Just imagine how PG must have felt listening to the first playback of this in the studio. I wonder how long it took him to realize he had just finished one of the greatest love songs of all time.
Well, tbh PG wasn't quite pleased with this version as it was Daniel Lanois choice to trim the song and give it cohesion. Peter's live version of the song is the one he wanted to be in So. I guess there's a studio recording of that version in some bootlegs.
I listen to hip-hop, rock, metal, funk, folk, punk, prog, classical, even occasionally jazz... but I really think this particular song is the greatest ever composition of popular music. God bless Peter Gabriel.

Although his rupture from Genesis was quite sad, it's hard not to see that value of Peter Gabriel as a solo artist. It was bittersweet for sure but you are correct that if it wasn't for that, who knows what we would have missed out on? Both Peter and Phil are immensely talented and have brought so much joy to people's lives through music. Genesis just closed out their last tour ever in London this last weekend. I am fortunate enough to say that I had the opportunity to see them play here in the States just a few months ago. Their music has touched me in ways I couldn't even begin to explain.

The feeling of the chorus conveys what heaven could feel like after many years of suffering. That's sometimes one of the only hopes that keeps me going, on the darkest days

The epitome of an ‘80s masterpiece. There are not enough words to fully summarize the 1980s. @@kapa4163for you maybe, I was glad they ended for a million reasons. But send me back to 1980 and I would rule the world again .✌️
Definitely an unforgettable song.
I don't think Peter knew how powerful of an impact this song would be on any and everyone.
He wanted it to have an impact on Rosanna Arquette who the song was written for...
I think he did, and that's why he made it!

We wish more people your age could relate….
Cool tho.

M'eh. Generation X has that impact... even to the kid's of gen x. I may not be your daddy, but, you're welcome, too.
The older I become the more I realise how lucky we were to live with great artists- none better than this genius.
Music is mathematical and we use mathematics to understand the universe. Musicians touch the face of Creation. Peter Gabriel is a spiritual master.

I always wanted to marry this beautiful man when I was younger. Especially after hearing his mesmerising voice for the first ❤
Such a great song. Who else is here remembering the great music of their younger years? 🎶

It’s so beautiful .... it makes me cry 💖

Yeah, me too. That and this particular song reminds me of an angel I once knew who had the most beautiful sky-blue eyes... 💙🌎⛅
Absolutely a timeless classic.Whatever happened to Peter Gabriel
@@davidhamilton1870 He is still active but it's all quite low key
Probably one of the most incredible songs from his music from the 80s .. genius in the music industry
Although his rupture from Genesis was quite sad, it's hard not to see that value of Peter Gabriel as a solo artist. After all, we got this amazing album AND Phil Collins as the new lead vocals of Genesis - a win/win as far as I'm concerned. Two musical greats for the formation of one epically awesome band. Thank you Peter for your amazing presence in my life, as well as Phil Collins
I love both of them
If this song is part of discovery/ disclosure....thank you...But I don't think Peter or Phil are better than each other.
In fact I will tell you that they are equally important to us all.
Please try and pay attention to what they have done for us. If you can't remember the 80's I will tell you that I can remember things from before I was born. Wrap your head around that....
@@jeremyhammond5173 Nobody said one was better than the other. Have trouble with comprehension do you ? Read what was actually written and you will find it is YOU who need to pay attention.
We were lucky
One of the last times I saw my dad alive and well, I walked into the living room of my former home to find him on the couch like usual. There he was, watching the secret world live concert on DVD. I sat through the entire thing with him. This song was his absolute favorite out of them all. I’ll never forget that night, nor this song. One day, I’ll share it with my future wife and eventually, kids of my own. God bless Peter Gabriel and anyone listening.
I forgot just how much I love this song. A classic.
Love can be painful. But music makes everything better.🖤
So true! Music is pure and transports you to a place in time where you can find such joy. :)
Because it makes us feel felt and understood.
for years this song made me nostalgically hopeful, painful break-ups here and there . the more time went on, the more I was sure that happy ending wouldn't chance my way. yet like distance thunder on far away spring days I finally met her...been married to a sweet, pretty lady for 20 years. now, this is a victory song...can run out into the rain smiling...with arms outstretched
The feeling of the chorus conveys what heaven could feel like after many years of suffering. That's sometimes one of the only hopes that keeps me going, on the darkest days
Well said bailzzzzzz
Heaven is already here with us if we can find it in ourselves to see the presence. There is so much pain and suffering on the way there though and it is easy to be distracted and lose our way...
Peter Gabriels music touches my soul.
