Mike Rutherford has been permanently and severely underrated in my decades-long perception of Genesis and all the many rediscoveries of Genesis that "overpower" me to this day. Not only is he a good bass player, he is simply a brilliant musician.
His syncopated bass line during the chorus has always fascinated me. Whereas he could have taken a simpler 4/4 approach he plays an immaculate rhythmical line in between the beats.
Genesis were integral in shaping me creatively as a writer and artist as a teenage. I was 15 in 1976. Genesis are a huge influence in my life, past, present and future.
Yep Genesis hired Bill Bruford to play drums because Phil became the lead man after Peters departure. Long before the Chester Thompson days. Phil Collins and Bill Bruford playing drums together is AMAZING!

I read that while the band was on tour in 2007 after an accident of some sorts, is when Phil began his decline with his health. Seeing their last and final concert in March of 2022 with Phil singing from a chair was sad. All good things must come to an end.

This run of Lyceum shows are pinnacle genesis for my money. Wish I could have been there for them, but I came in as a fan aged 12 in 1987. Finally got to see them last year and they were magnificent. Love them.

Phil steps out from behind his drum kit at 3:20 here and does something with his tambourine that still amazes me to this day. Keeping perfect time for his band, he does it like this, it doesn't last long, but check him out, so amazing. 💪💪

Bruford really earns his progressive stripes here(not that he didn't 1000x times already), interpreting &executing this material so flawlessly. Rutherford is masterful on the bass. Nick Brylka-Mee He's also a foundational and most musically vital member of one of the world's greatest and most prolifically creative bands. He's earned the right to have an eccentrically sour personality, imo. Were it not for Bank's 'boringness' and 'anti-social' behaviors in Genesis not getting dragged down by all the partying and keeping the band on track, Genesis would have never made it as far as they did.
Long way I prefer Phil Collins’ version than Peter Gabriel’s. PG is histrionic, arty, intellectual and experimental. On the other hand Phil singing and playing this song is just perfection and fun

Having grown so used to Chester playing the drums with Genesis that it's very refreshing to see and hear Bill Bruford's take on the material, very cool, one of my favorite Genesis concert films!

Long way I prefer Phil Collins’ version than Peter Gabriel’s. PG is histrionic, arty, intellectual and experimental. On the other hand Phil singing and playing this song is just perfection and fun

With all due respect to Peter Gabriel, this IMO, is Genesis at their peak. They never sounded better as a live unit than here. Such a tight sounding, well oiled machine.
