Totally agree with your thoughts on the quick shifter and blipper. A must have on most motorcycles, makes riding so much more fun. Both bikes are great, nice work Aprilia! Awesome video as usual!
Couldn’t help but notice while you were talking about both, you kept saying you would prefer to have the RS while you were on it and just kinda cruising. But then when you were on the tuono you couldn’t stop giggling and twisting the wrist. And that’s what I’m looking for. Tuono it is for me
I had a 105hp Street Triple as my first bike - scared the life out of me when I accelerated too hard on a damp road! TC is always welcome for me, especially on bikes aimed at newer riders.
Really great overview LC. I was agonising whether to change my order from the RS to the Tuono. You've settled my mind on the RS, many thanks. Only challenge now is getting a delivery date!!
Glad someone has done the comparison. I'm having this exact dilemma. I want the more sporty version being the RS, however the silver/red/blk paint scheme on the tuono is much more appealing to me. Here in the US the RS is a little more difficult to find at dealerships because they sell out almost immediately, so pre-order is a must. The proper wind screen on the RS on the open roads in the US may be more helpful with a mid-weight bike. Flickability is really nice to have and could be life saving in certain situations I've noticed, my prior bike being a scrambler. The quick shifter and auto blipper would also be nice to have standard. The price difference, always nice to have lower price but now I suppose I know why. Still can't decide arghh...
I want either of them but I'm very concerned about the reliability. Now if Japan would copy it, say Yamaha. Then with the wheelie control & build quality I would sell a body part to get it. The RS660 is gorgeous. I ride in Bay Area and need fast & flickale
Thanks for the comparison review; two great bikes. I commented after your last Tuono review that it would be a difficult decision splitting the two - so it proved. I said on balance I’d take the RS for its enhanced electronics and the fact the riding position isn’t that radical for a sports bike. Your point about middleweight bikes with a good power spread in today’s camera-infested UK is very valid. However, I overlooked your point about the RS having more ‘space presence’ is equally valid; thanks. Lots of riders might feel short changed trading down to a ‘smaller’ bike, even though the engine and bike dynamics are bang on. Onwards and upwards for Aprilia, methinks.
These "smaller"cc bikes certainly make much more sense in the "real world". Us more maturer riders don't need the zillions of hp, all gets very scary too quickly. I will keep my Africa Twin and reminisce over my Fire Blade days.......KTM 890 R on order for those sunny days!!!Great videos LCR , who needs a tv licence with you guys.

Man, after sitting on some super sports and then naked, I was leaning towards the naked but then heard about these two and they seem like a nice balance between the two. Too many back problems for a super sort. Been saving up to buy a bike and fixed my parents old harleys up to get some time on the street and get my actual M class (USA) license. God speed to you man, appreciate the insight into these two similar machines :)
I used to be indecisive, now I’m not so sure 😂. Great to see the back to back. I’d have thought with the IMU and quickshifter blipper that the RS is probably better value and as you summed up for the road the Tuono and track types the RS. Look forward to the STR vs Tuono comparison. Good work chops 👍🏻
What are Aprilia doing? The pricing is all wrong. I wanted the Tuono but its such poor value in comparison. So for £450 less you lose the IMU, up&down quickshift, better suspension and the extra fairing bits. Madness!
Great review. Thanks! I prefer the look of sports bikes, so it’s the RS660 for me. I’ll have to get the restricted version since I’m a beginner rider, but once I’ve graduated to an unrestricted license, it’s just a matter of getting the ECU reflashed to remove the power limiter 😎👍🏼
I have to admit, so far the RS660 is the best bike that came out this year in my book. It's a real looker with the fairings, great sound, presence, plenty of electronics, great with the options included. Great riding position that is biased to sportsbike which is awesome. It is expensive so it's tough to say whether I'd get it.
You know, both bikes seem almost identical in performance, for me it's be the Tuono, simply because I love the naked street bike looks over the pure sportbike looks, I don't do track days any more but I'd be quite happy taking the Tuono on track, think it's have to have the quick shifter/blipper to get the best out of it on track tho'! Great vids Chopsy, keep em coming!
With the IMU/quick shifter being an option on Tuono, I'd go that direction I think. Really the bikes are just a choice of full fairings + clip ons vs semi-fairings + better final gear for street fun.
Great vid 👍had a test ride on the RS awesome but my choice will be Touno for comfort if you can get the same specks as the RS quick shifter and the rest . Want an rs660 so bad, not just because it's brand new either..from what reviews are saying you can't buy anything similar really. You've either got the bikes like the r7 sv650s which are too similar ergo wise to the supersports and you won't ride them for more than an hour (coming from experienced advice) or they are faired commuter bikes like the cbr650r. Is buying a bike on finance really that terrible an idea ? Maybe I could spin it to myself as a credit builder haha?
I've been thinking about one of these as my next bike but for not much more can buy a street triple RS. So was thinking that's the bike for me coming from a fireblade and wanting something with less power and more comfort but the TFT dash on the current STRS is that bad its almost a deal breaker.
That is the question waiting to be answered. Street Triple R or Rs or Tuono 660. And you are the man to give us that answer.

I think the Tuono has a deeper more gutteral tone by comparison, seems to from the videos anyway. Another great video Chops! 👌😎
Great informative comparison,thanks.
I would love to know how the RS660 compares to the KTM 890 Duke R?
Lambykins.... You are making me want another Aprilia
Excellent review. Chops, If you had to pick one for long distances and touring which would it be?
Either could do it.. same applies 😁
Basically the handlebars are different. You can change the fork oil if want stiffer suspension.
Nice review! Considering to buy one of those. Is the pillion seat/position identical on these or one has the advantage?
I've been thinking about one of these as my next bike but for not much more can buy a street triple RS. So was thinking that's the bike for me coming from a fireblade and wanting something with less power and more comfort but the TFT dash on the current STRS is that bad its almost a deal breaker.
I noticed your knee was at a very acute angle on the RS (12:01), so comfort must have been compromised. Any comparison to the Tuono?
It's probably the 360 camera.. its not too bad at all on your knees. Yes it's sporty but much better than a supersport
I also wondered if the leg position was different between the two
GREAT REVIEW , THE BIKE SOUND FANTASTIC STOCK , HARD TO CHOISE ONE
Wouldn't the closer comparison with the Aprilia be with the Street Triple S rather than the R? Similar capacity motor.
Much cheaper though, idea is similar priced bikes 👍
Would be helpful for me if you can do a back to back of the RS660 and the Ducati Supersport 950 👍
Ducati will be gruntier with a much bigger engine.
i own a 2020 mt09 which rocks my world but im torn between test riding the rs660 and the v4 factory.
