Respect your opinion as you have ridden far more bikes than I have, but feel the Ducati Supersport is in same ball park and has more bhp than the Aprilla although heavier and both are lovely looking, I'm biased prefer my Ducati, Cheers.
@@debenhamdave4314 I love when I find a person like you, who disagrees with someone else, but are respectful in the comments section. Cheers! ✌️

Pretty much the only reviewer I trust for an unbiased review. Cheers Neevsey.
He’s the best , cuts to the chase and knows his stuff.
I feel like it was criminal how 600's just got cammed to death and over race readied. They used to be a good sized road bike before the daftness. It comes to a point where if you want more power you're better off with a larger engine yet still they made them more and more rev-happy year after year.
Fingers crossed this kicks off a new trend of longer stroke, less track focussed middleweights.
They could call them sportsbikes...
What do you mean? When do you feel like things were at the correct state ?
@@Fee.1 I would say somewhere in the mid 80's-mid 90's. Since then actual gains have been poor but power gains have been high. The engines aren't being made better overall - just tuned harder for more rpm and higher top end power.
@@siraff4461 how do you define actual gains ?
@@Fee.1 You see that attitude is the exact problem. Numbers on paper are the easy way to say something is better because it makes more power everywhere.
The problem comes when you don't need or want that more power everywhere or it makes things like throttle pick up, low rpm/power requirement and such worse. Even the chassis attitude of the bike - people used to use things like cbr600's as sport - tourers but the later ones are basically track bikes with lights.
Don't get me wrong - there is a place for that and if you want a nice, vicious bike its great. Trouble is for most road riding it makes for an overall worse experience and it makes me wish they would just make a road version which has smoother throttle pick up, suspension tuned for bumps and corners rather than billiard board smooth tracks only and a torque/gearing curve which allows you to use more of the bike all the time without needing 12,000rpm and at least 60mph in 1st gear to do it.
Twins became popular for a reason - more of their torque on tap from lower down and while they make less top end power most road riders don't miss it as they don't ride at the redline anyway.
This is also why triple's are getting popular but take a minute to think - one of the most popular engines at the moment is the Yamaha triple in the MT-09.
It makes as near as makes no difference the same power as an early Fireblade which also had a big torque curve and was the best selling bike for a while.
Screaming 600's making similar power just aren't selling.
First and foremost the OP is correct but i think the main reason why and especially in the states for the 600s dying is cost. Plain and simple I’m not buying a 16k R6 when i can get a 1000 for a few more bucks, nevermind the fact the 1000s are getting most of the love & R&D, after 10 years the 600s are stuck in 2010 while we got engines making 200whp stock
So from a performance perspective nevermind used sales the 600s are dead
driving the honda cbr650r but not because its cheaper. i wanted those 4 zylinder + nice looks. cant beat the price for what i got that. 9.3k € in germany. sold out everywhere
Good choice! Love the CBR650R!
I've had the 2020 for two months now and honestly doubt I will ever get rid of it
That's a great choice,,, CBR 650 is many times better in reliability plus you will get an inline 4 engine that sounds lot better you can squeeze more performance on it.
It's cheeper too,,, way much practical and easygoing bike.
I had to rewind to really make sure you said its weight is 181kg wet. That's very good.
I absolutely love the "old-school" dash of the MV Agusta. I love that it's not rectangular!
Aprilia all the way! In Acid Yellow!!
I'll pick the CBR . Best of both and affordable,Honda quality built to last for years
Same bro brilliant bike
Honda got the Inline 4 engine when tuned it's more than the Aprilia RS660 or the MV,,, but the best about the CBR650 is it's unparalleled reliability and durability.
Respect for Honda, they still made 4 cylinder engines.
Great little group test. The Aprilia's definitely the way to go. Can't wait for the Factory version.
I really wonder if a RS660 Factory will be a thing... we assume that Aprilia will do this but I’m not convinced they could at a price point that wouldn’t be ridiculous... if they do I suspect it might be a limited edition...
@@davidgibson7234 You may well be right. I'm living in hope more than banking on it really. I guesstimated it would cost about £1500 more based on other manufacturers equivalent upgraded versions which would push it in to a tricky financial place considering what else is available for around £11,500. Fingers crossed I guess.
Whats the difference with the factory version?
@@kilian8596 Based on the previous Factory versions, better fully adjustable suspension, improved brakes, maybe a homologated Akrapovic can & potentially some carbon bits. Although as mentioned before, you're probably moving the bike in to a prohibitive price range with those upgrades so I doubt a 660 Factory would be as well equiped as the RSV4. Personally I think it will be a suspension upgrade, fancy paint job & maybe an Akra.
Hopefully this starts a new trend of actual sports bikes. Most things on offer these days (in all classes) are either track bikes with numberplates or sports tourers.
Real, usable sports bikes seemed to die out a long time ago - late 90's for 600's and early-mid 2000's for litre bikes.
I don't think the power level makes all that much difference. Its more the set up and I think this is why nakeds have become so popular.
Have an RSV4 for a couple of years. Now, with the covid situation making trackdays at Sepang impossible, and Im touching 50 soon, am now seriously considering this kinda sportsbike.
Just pick one and put it under the Christmas tree...I'd be happy...Great job with the vid guys...happy Holidays..

@@shubsodhi5986 yes for me it's Honda
@@augustinemichael7697 you and me both have similar flavor in bikes then. But I'll say this, on paper RS660 is the better bike tho. I really hope Honda aupdates there bikes to the new standards soon. I really wanna buy the CB650r
@no my man, we got similar tastes mate.
My brain was telling Honda but my heart told me Aprilia RS660 so I bought one... After doing first 300 kms I got first "check engine" light. That was quick fix with via the throttle calibration. Then I did 1st inspection and after software upgrade cruise control didn't work anymore. Then at 1600 km it literally died in the middle of the street. I was able to start it later but with limited power and "check engine". Exhaust valves have to be replaced. It has been at the shop for the last 4 weeks and I have no idea when I will have it fixed and back. 10.500 EUR is a lot of coins for such a nightmare reliability. If I would choose again, I would go for Honda.
I am Literally about to order a 2022 tuono 660 factory and I was worried about the Aprillia reputation for reliability. Reading this and some other comments I may reconsider and give the Honda and the ninja a closer look. Plus they have dealers near by and the Aprilia is 2 hr car ride. Thanks for your comments sir.
@@marsarmory6236 to update you on my story that I commented 11 months ago. It took 4,5 months to deliver the parts from Aprilia and get my bike fixed last year. I lost all the season on my RS660 but Aprilia made kept me riding on 2-wheels letting me use their Tuono660 as long as my bike was at the shop. When my bike was finally delivered I got additional 2 years of Aprilia warranty. This season I am having no issues and enjoying every single mile I make on this bike. So if it keeps like this I will be very happy owner of this bike and never go back to Honda. However these bikes have issues, among all the people in my local RS660/Tuono660 community over 50% of them had issues like engine needed to be replaces, all kinds of leaks, cam tensioner problems, valve problems... something to consider you your Aprilia dealer is 2h away.
Wow this is good to know. I think I’ll stick with the zx 6r
@@SimPoolman I need to update once again. My Aprilia has just started burning and leaking oil in the same time. I had to add 1000 ml (yes, 1 liter!) of oil just after doing 1300 kilometers after last oil change. The bike will go back to the dealer, again. It is becoming some kind of horror story...
@@szymonchalupka Hey man, can I ask how did it go after that? Do you still have the bike?

Nice breakdown, just wish there was a drag race between the 3. The CBR650R mods up really well and can make quite a lot of power with an ECU flash. I'm more into touring with my sportbikes so I'd definitely save the money and mod up a CBR650R. If I did occasional track days, I'd lean towards the RS 660 as mentioned in the video.

Aprillia rs 660 all day great bike perfect for the road
I still love the mv the most tbh
Love it how these motorcycle journalists make you believe that £10150 for a 600cc bike is a great value for money.
For a 4 cylinder 600 with 130 horsepower, 10 grand isn't bad value. For a parallel twin with 100 horse power, probably not.
I paid that for a monster 1100S back in 2009. I suppose that’s the price of money printing. Noticed that most people now seem to prefer a PCP deal, they never own it outright.
Yup .. ya gotta compare it to what else is available brand new in the same £10-£10.5K bracket .... MT09 SP, 890 Duke R, Street Triple RS .. sure they are all naked but they also all come with higher quality suspension and brakes and a fair bit more torque and bhp. If bang for buck is what ya class as value for money then the RS660 loses out to Yamaha, KTM and Triumph 🤷♂️
@@MotoGoato slightly disagree. Figures wise it probably doesn't stack up. But you ride one and by God you'll realise how good they are. I reckon with a better rear shock it would piss all over all them bikes you've just mentioned on the roads. It's light and the electronics on them are something else. Overkill if anything. But I've ridden a street triple rs and 890 Duke and the Rs660 would be my choice any day of the week.
@@TheTinheadUK Can't say I agree with that at all ... the Aprilia is hugely lacking in torque compared to the others ... the little 660 only makes 50 ftlb .... the 890R makes 80 ftlb ... and they weigh the same. I'm fairly certain that fancy electronics (which they all have now - 6 axis IMU, multiple ride modes, multi step TC, switchable ABS etc etc) is not going to make up for a 30 ftlb deficit.
After test riding the cbr650r and the rs660, I’m tempted to say the cbr650r felt more racy than the rs660, I would put the rs660 as the soft option it felt more like a naked bike than anything else
650r has 4 cylinder maybe that's why
That F3 looks and sounds like pure sex.
Oh and "on the road all bikes go the same speed"... you actually believe that? Why dont we all cruise around on R3s then?
That's a good question, I hate seeing wrecked supersports on country roads, be sensible and ride safe.
I had a 675 brutale, thing was savage! Miss it allot. The noise of that engine is crazy
It depends how fast do you want to lose your licence. Fast bikes feel really slow and boring at legal or even 50% over legal speeds and that's a prison time in some countries. I've had the most fun on 80bhp Ducati monster, much more than any of the faster bikes I owned since.
Happy i ordered an R6, the last one done, 2020.
Great choice. Stick with japanese. More reliable and more satisfying bikes to own in the long run.
This is really insightful. I wanted to know about 600cc superbike segment. This video does it with clarity. Thank you MCN.
I didn't know the R6 was no longer being produced for the road... what a shame as well as the GSXR 600, amazing bikes and more than most will ever be able to outperform... I think for the money regarding these three bikes your better of getting a used GSXR 600 K7 for 4-5k or even a used Duc 899 for 8k... no brainier for me
Find me a 899 for 8k with ok Milage lol

"On the road, all bikes go the same speed" - I think we all know that isn't really true.. especially when there's a long straight with good visibility haha :)
Something like this might be very appealing with 150bhp, but it would be a massive step down for a lot of riders I think.
Yep
@Fry 9 True. This is where there is now a huge gap in the market though. After the demise of firstly the 750s and now the 600s, what is left when it comes to 130-150 bhp sportsbikes? The F3 800 and the Panigale V2 - which are certainly on the more exotic/pricey side. It would be great to see more manufacturers release bikes in this sector.
When I was shopping for a new bike by the end of the summer, I was deciding between the RS660 and its bigger sister. In the end I went for what my heart wanted and got the 1100 Factory, but I'm going to test-ride the RS660 at the first possible opportunity for sure. It looks pretty good (although the front makes it look kind of like a praying mantis), sounds great for an I2 and is surely lots of fun on the road.
Great and honest review as always, Michael. 👌
I cant imagine the Aprilia with cans, how did they make is sound so raunchy and thunderous.
That's pretty much all intake sound, typically Italian :)
Great vid Neevsi, solid assessments as always.
Perhaps it's from my being taller and longer-armed than most but I absolutely hated the RS660’s handlebar! The angle, width, and position all combined to feel very odd and unnatural, it would not work for me on the road or the track. Definitely an outlier comment, but so be it.
RS 660 must be a good road bike, but for me there is no replacement for displacement. I love the big force of the 1290 SuperDuke at low revs on the road 👌 Big dose of pleasure at every little twist of the thottle. And the comfortable riding position to make the ride fatigue free.
Same for me I've always preferred the torque rather than revving the tits off it to get it moving.
If aprillia have sorted parts supply and reliability its a winner.
I cannot speak of the RS660, but I have a 2015 Shiver 750. I took it on track days, later on I upgraded to an MV F3 675 for trackdays and my father started riding trackdays on the Shiver. The only issue there has ever been with the shiver was a side stand sensor that stopped working. It arrived in like 4 days after I ordered it online. Otherwise has been great. Regarding the MV also zero problems (I have done around 800km on the road and one year of trackdays). Parts that I needed (because of a lowside on track) came in around 12 days during the first covid lockdowns, so seems pretty ok to me as well. The MV and the Aprilia might be a bit more expensive than the competition but if you take them to a track they can be used as is no problems. I see everyone with japanese bikes immediately going for different rear sets, because they scrape too soon, and they upgrade all sorts of other things that you dont have to upgrade with a bike like the Aprilia or the MV. They are very capable out of the box.
Ducati Supersport may be in a slightly different bracket as it is sort of a sport tourer albeit a sporty one. Would of been nice to see a comparison as riders for both may be similar. Wouldn't say the supersport isn't sporty enough and not much fun as most who own them find them superfun on the twisties. Even Neevesy said it was a good bike when he did the 2nd review of it
The one red and one black wheel on the rs660 would sent my ocd mad!!! Paint the rear wheel red to match the front, nice exhaust system and tail tidy and that's a pukka bike👌
Always great videos thanms
Rs660 what a stunning beauty 😍😈
I like your reviews...they're always informative and entertaining. And I don't disagree with your conclusions here...I've not ridden any of these bikes. But just a couple of points I can talk about: first, yes all bikes can go the same speed on the roads...technically they can all go 70mph in the UK, but it's daft to think that they do. Also, it's not the speed, it's the acceleration that is the key...that's where the excitement is. And these bikes won't compete with litre sports bikes in that regard so its disingenuos to infer that they do . Secondly - you discount the Duc Supersport; I had a Supersport S and it was a fantastic all rounder...quick, agile, and amazingly comfortable on a tour down to southern Italy. My current bike is an S1000RR, and if Ducati made a Supersport with 50 more bhp I'd swap in an instant. So to discount it against this competition is wrong in my opinion.
The problem is these journos all get to ride powerful bikes all the time. They forget that if you only have one or two bikes, you never get the thrill of a more powerful machine. 99% of the time 100 hp is fine. But its really nice to have more power for that 1% you really want to put a grin on your face.
The Honda sound alone is reason to go for it. A twin sound just can't compare. Add in the Honda quality and it is the best choice for daily driving.
Very nice and unbiased comparison
Aprilia is pure passion
Isn't it interesting how around 100bhp is the perfect porridge in a street bike. More than enough to get you into trouble, but you can also give it some beans without fearing for your license or your life.
Great review. Looks like they have got it spot on. Tuono version will be interesting against some strong competition.
never understood this "not a real sportsbike!" thing ... the CBR650 might just looks like a sport bike but thats the selling point, people want the badass look without the actual sportbike drawbacks
The Aprilia looks great in theory but beyond the test ride, what about reliability, availability of parts and dealer support. After getting bitten by the KTM 790 (great bike... if it actually worked for more than 5 minutes straight), these things would definitely make me think twice before buying a bike just off the back of a great test ride. Although this looks like a great bike in isolation, unfortunately, Aprilia have fallen very short of the mark in these departments historically but if they raised their game, I would be very interested.
I bought a 2018 shiver900 for 7800€ + around 150€ extended warranty (Aprilia warranty). After two years and about 20k km I had one problem. The electric throttle was faulty. They replaced it without any hazzle. Other then that nothing wrong about it.
Still enjoy the bike... Could have a few horses more up top.... But well I guess euro4 had not allowed for it...
But yes, take a look where your dealers are and what reputation they got... Best bike wont be much fun if the next dealer is an big wide A hole... Things can go wrong on any bike...
Hopefully they make an RS660 Factory
Need to compare the ape to the sv650 n mt07 . They are going to compete in twins cup for sure
If you buy the Aprilia you best have a dealer close by. Get to know the Service Manager because you will be seeing him a ton.

I loved the Aprilia 😍
Unfortunately there’s not a lot Aprilia Specialist dealerships around UK and the spare parts is taking ages to arrive 😔
Haven't watched it yet, but before I hit play, I'm going with the MV! To be fair it's different category to the other two
6 way axis imu, and cruise control, plus lighter components, for £2k extra, that's total value for money
Aprilla have smashed it with this motorcycle 👌
I find it quite inconceivable that manufacturers aren't bringing Supersport 600's into the the UK any more, I guess the market has changed over the last few years, the UK use to be the biggest buyer of Sports bikes in the world, now it seems it's all adventure bikes, I'm guessing Ewan and Charlie may have had an influence on that.
Having owned pretty much most of the big Sports Bikes over the last 20+ years, I suppose I can see why, 200bhp+ bikes are pretty irrelevant on the UK roads now, too many pot holes, too many speed camera's... blah, blah... etc, etc.
Currently I'm riding around on a 20 year old FireBlade, which tbh, is powerful enough to have fun on, on the crappy roads we have here in the UK, but I have to say the RS660 does look interesting, perhaps I should get a demo on one in the new year, which will probably lead to me spending money.... ;-(
Hey, the Honda is a really really good bike (better in terms of factors like reliability and practicality). But why is it being avoided here?🙄
I have the 2019 CBR 650R and since the RS660 came out on the market I'm toying with the idea of getting it...don't get me wrong, the CBR is great but damn the Aprilia is sexy too and more electronics to play with never hurt anyone
"You can only go the limit on the road." Yep. My new, zero miles, $3150 Ninja 400 does 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 secs and will do 125 mph. Less than half the price of the Honda with all of the fun.
You are not wrong, but there is a limit to how fast you can push that bike, based on its chassis, brakes and suspension, the RS660 will allow u to get to your limits on the road, hence the ninja 400 is only a beginner bike
I thought the comparison between the three bikes was a little light in this video.
You all looked flipping cold during the filming.
I absolutly LOVED the estetics of the concept but i absolutly hate the road going version
İ have already tested, that was really amazing for 660 engine, stability is just another stuff. After my gsr750 suzuki this is really weapon
You can’t go wrong with Honda.
Frankly most riders can’t run even the slowest sport bike to its capabilities so buy the more economical bike and get better leathers and a helmet.
It'll run forever too. Japanese reliability.

There's no getting around the CBR's lovely 13,000 rpm inline-4 sound. The two Aprilia RS660 riders that I followed on YT both ditched their bikes after issues.
Neevsy - what's your view on the new R7? I'm looking for a nice, no nonsense mid weight race bike for honing my skills....
You can still buy the Euro 4 ZX6R, they are still in showrooms. The Euro 5 is coming next year, it's just delayed. Same as we aren't getting the new ZX10R until the summer.

It breaks my heart seeing the 600's go. Technology killed the 600 class no body want to pay what just a few years ago was the price for a 1000cc supersport. We don't want abs traction control and all the other nonsense on our 600's
Thanks guys for this video, i enjoyed watching it. I can't help, but when it comes to 600s, i am into Inline Fours, 'cause they rev so nicely... i would think the parallel twin of the Aprilia lacks a bit of midrangeTorque, doesn't it?
I hope this market segment takes off.
Bring on the BMW F900RS!
I recently just bought the naked CB650R it’s a wonderful bike for daily and I do feel the lack of sportiness when I push the bike a little harder. Is it worth for me to get the rs660 as an additional bike for the weekend or are they still too close?
A bike with the same power but doesn't rev is hardly going to feel sportier. Plus the Aprilia still has high bars, not sporty clip-ons. Get a proper sports bike if you want something sporty.
Great comparison
Gorgeous bike from Aprilia as expected.
Well done !
I’m looking forward to having a go on the RS660 and don’t have any doubt that it would great little bike and be comparable to a super twin just more road oriented. But for a couple hundred quid more you could get a Street Triple RS...which achieves in my view what the Aprilia is going for and then some, just in my opinion.
In Italia la stree triple costa circa 3000 euro meno del rs660 (8000 contro 11000 centinaia cento meno)
MCN regarding performance could you let us know how the rs660 stands up to the competition in the straights does it match or beat the CBR650R?
I'd say probably not, but it'll take it back in the bends, this chassis is flawless and confidence inspiring. I just traded my 959 for the RS660 and I'm already taking bends faster. Icing on cake, thrash around the beacons, come home, 65mpg average. It's mental how economical this bike is, my 959 struggled to get 100 miles on a full tank
bring on the Tuareg with this motor!
I think they already said it will come.
I miss bikes like the CBR 929RR. It was comfortable, fast, and able to go through the twisties. I wish a manufacturer would make a liter sports bike less track focused, but not a super naked. I'm sure there is a market for it.
I'm confused with your statement that cbr isn't coming to the UK.
For £8-10k but a different second hand PCP bike that's been restricted to about 3k miles a year and you've got yourself something a lot better and you've saved a fortune in depreciation. 🤷
