I think the RS660 is a great bike not just on its own, but because now the bar has been way high for this category of bikes. The likes of the Ninja 650, YZF-R7, CBR650R etc. Will have to be improved to be competitive. So as a whole, this bike will make the entire middleweight naked/sport class improve a lot at once!
@massimohack1367 CBR650R and RS660 are in the same price range sadly. I was debating between the two for months before i settled on the CBR. Nothing beats that i4 sound.

I have been waiting for Zack’s review of this new, mid range street bike. When 180-200 hp seems to be the rule of the day, this is a refreshing and much needed entry in an oft forgotten market segment. No longer!!! Thank-you Aprilia and thanks Zack. Hope to see other manufacturers up their game in this segment.
Thanks for the thorough and honest review in real world conditions, Zack. To your early comment on the hazard lights flashing under emergency/sudden braking, this is a regulatory requirement in Europe to indicate that a driver (normally) is heavily/emergency/suddenly braking and not under normal, progressive braking. As a Canadian in an area with the worst drivers I've encountered after living internationally in many countries, I wish this safety feature would become a North American/Canadian requirement as well.
6:12 love how the TFT transitions to low light mode That's a sweet lil' bike. But, Italian bikes are very expansive to service in my country, so there's that.
I had a cbr500r and now ride the aprilia and they're not even comparable except the comfort thing. The aprilia instantly made me a better rider and the light weight made it so easy for me to ride that I regretted not just starting on it. RS660 has been reliable and just an overall amazing bike the 500r doesn't hold a candle next to it.
I think Aprilia has hit this one way out of the park. This bike has everyone that loves middleweight street bikes talking about it. From what I'm hearing dealers are selling them like crazy! It will be interesting to see if the big four from Japan will respond in kind. There are rumors of a Yamaha R7? Time will tell. Great Review Zack!
The R7 has been offically confimed but if they want to challenge the RS 660, Yamaha should make more than just deliver a sport version of the MT-07. There is also a rumor about a Ninja 700R with 95hp. It seems Aprillia has opened the way to something new with the RS 660.
I might be a little biased but this seems very similar to my Honda CBR 600 F4i. A bike between the racers and the upright naked bikes, around 100 HP, pretty light, and just a very good commuter in general. Overall I’m very happy more manufacturers are making sporty, comfortable commuter bikes.
I love how cool a bike you can get for not so much money, it make me imagine what it would be like if cars were way cheaper and you could get something high quality and super cool for 12 grand
I think this would give you a bigger smile when riding daily vs the MT-03 so I think it fits. It's a nice looking bike, I really like it in the yellow color tbh.
@Rudy Conrad Yeh it is superior in power, tech, looks and sound. I was looking at it based on a commute purpose where it's better then the mt03 while the yamaha does have a bit more advantage in probably being a bit more nimble and light for the city and being way cheaper, is where I was coming from
@Last_Raven My comment was stating that the 600’s used to be more sensible and cheaper. And 600’s did not have electronics back then because they did not exist. The 600’s of the 90’s and early 2000’s were still cooler than these new middleweight bikes. Screaming inline 4 will always be cooler than a parallel twin.
@Last_Raven it’s is not a sports bike with slightly more budget components and slightly more comfortable riding position that a liter bike, ohhh wait that’s exactly what it is. It is very similar to a CBR600 from the late 80’s through the 90’s.
@Last_Raven yeah sure. Everyone hated all sports bikes until the fireblade. They never sold a single one. And this Aprilia in no way captures the spirit of the 600 super sport bikes.
@Last_Raven they sold because many people liked them. They sold after the fireblade because many people liked them. And more people buy cars because many people want high tech and purchase cars because of it not in spite of it. I like how you take a sub section of people and apply their tastes to every human on earth. The fact is 600’s became too focused, to expensive and too impractical. But most people are going to buy the most cutting edge bike because people want what they perceive as the best. Now some manufacturers like Aprilia are coming back to more practical, livable and cost effective sport bikes, just like the first 20 years of the 600 class. I myself find the 4 cylinder 600’s more intriguing than these parallel twins because an inline 4 is more special . I think bikes like the CBR600 F4 were the sweet spot in middle weight sort bike design. Those bikes also looked cooler than modern sport bikes. Whatever, ride what you have and have fun Last_Raven.
@Last_Raven everyone who mattered ? Hahaha ok. Wow you have a twisted view of the world. I always wanted to try a hyabusa or ZX-14, I guess that means I don’t matter.
@Vanessa Xoaxlooking into it more they said they have no plans to make another street legal supersport bike because they have no place being on the street and if they did make a new higher cc sportbike it would be a track only bike. I'd still like them to make a 650 class sportbike with a more relaxed riding position similar to the r7 yamaha is rumored to be making with the mt-07 engine but it doesn't seem likely to ever happen.

Great question on the VFR comparison at [28:58]. I ride a VFR but planning to rent on an overseas holiday - and the most suitable option looks like the RS 660. In fact, I'm considering downsizing from the VFR for my owned bike too, because of the exact reasons you mentioned in under a minute! Thanks!

Dude i cannot express enough how i have waited for this episode, sucks that this bike and Ducati Panigale V2 is just couple of grand difference where i live so i think i'd rather get panigale, you'll never be as young as you are now as they say
What blows me away is how they make it sound like an actual sportbike. Like it doesn't just sound like any other parallel twin, or any other 270 crank twin either. It sounds serious in a way. I can't exactly describe it but you hear it and you're like "fuck, yeah that thing is fast". Hats off to Aprilia, I want a friggin sportbike like it's 2003 again
All manufacturers should make daytime headlight modulation selectable these days. An important safety feature to help you get seen. I like the brakes activating the flashers. Back in the early 80 when I first started riding I dumped my bike right after a fresh rain in the gentlest of turns approaching a stop light twice two weeks apart. ABS would have saved me. Very minor damage but any accident can be bad if cars or various roadside fixed objects are involved. Even to this day none of my bikes have ABS equipped.
On the topic of rider/driver aids I feel theres a bit of a paradox. As a veteran auto dealership mechanic, I will say the biggest issue with driver aids is that they have bred out the requirement that people learn how to properly drive. Blind spot detection does not mean you no longer have to turn your head, and traction control does not mean the pedal/grip is a on/off switch instead of a rheostat. That said, I really wish people would learn to ride, or drive in or on a vehicle where they have to learn the foundations of control before getting a "aided" vehicle. I finally got my first bike with ABS and it is reassuring to me that should I surpass my ability there is a net that *may* help me out. But I try very hard to not get to that point, and aside from intentionally activating it to see how it feels, I have yet to *need* it (knocks on wood). Overall I think the aids are good, I just wish humans were better.

So happy you do these videos with Revzilla! The new dude from Motorcyclist Magazine sucks. Zach and Ari are totally irreplaceable.
Well done Zach....anther really helpful review ...keep up the great work.
You’re right about the up/down quick shift, but I’ve really only found the up clunky from 1st to 2nd, and occasionally it like neutral over 1st on the downshift.
I love these reviews.they are brilliant! Thanks for suffering in the rain Zach. It’s something I have to put up with a lot over here in Derbyshire, England!
Thanks!
We miss the cool/cost/practicality chart bro!
Yes I was thinking the same.
Why did they change that?
Was it too difficult to understand for some folks?
@@laz1go286 probably some manufacturer got upset their bike was labelled boring or too expensive(maybe honda?)
Man do I love these videos.
First time seeing you ride in the rain so I think you should get props for not really adjusting the route too much given the peril of the rain.
I see Zack. I see Daily Rider. I watch.
I misspell his name.
one must also Like every video as well
04:35 noticed the tft had an automatic night mode. Cool
Most of them do these days
Yes! I am excited to hear about this one!
What a cool bike props Aprilia for doing it differently and it being great still
This feels like the perfect spiritual succesor to a VFR750 without 2 extra cilinders. Looks like it rides like a dream!
Yo Zack,I think RevZilla should comp you a pair of waterproof boots,I mean it's a no brainer, they are after all in the Motorcycle accessory and apparel business! I want to talk to your boss! I also think you need a RAISE!!
I have the same one ..here in Florida USA..this motorcycle is great and super Confortable
I disagree with the riding modes. I appreciate using the 75 HP vs 110 HP on my Monster when I was learning and also when conditions are iffy
That’s cool, the display changes from white main and black secondary to black main and white secondary when he went through the tunnel.
I wanted to watch this video because of the bike, I couldn't because the guy is too much of a geek. Bring back Ari...
I have to say like your reviews and overall quality of your show content 👌
Raining in California? Truly a daily ride in England
That thing sounds wicked! 270° crank all day!
