    In 600cc and around there are mainly two categories of bikes.
    1st category is more racing and track oriented bikes such as;
    Suzuki GSX-R600
    Honda CBR600RR
    Kawasaki ZX6R
    Yamaha R6
    2nd category consists of more road and fun oriented bikes (you can still take them to the track if you want though) such as;
    Honda CBR650R
    Kawasaki Ninja 650
    Suzuki SV650 (though not looking very sporty, closer to CB650R)
    I think RS 660 fits in the second category and will become one of the main rivals of CBR650R.
    RS 660 is a beautiful machine and full of cool techs that you can only find some high end 1000cc sport bikes. But there are three huge drawbacks imo;
    1. Not 4 cylinder. So you can’t hear that classic deep and dark engine sound. I hope it’ll sound better than R3.
    2. Yes it’s gonna be expensive.
    3. Lacks world wide service and maintenance issues relative to huge brands like Honda, Suzuki etc.

      Late reply but no, it's a track bike. This is not a 4cyl 600 bike, it's a supertwin bike. That category is 659cc maximum, twin cylinder. Its main competitors are the Paton S1-R and the Kawasaki Z650.
      A twin cyl track bike in the same race tier as a ZX6R would be the Ducati Panigale 899 as you are allowed to ride a twin cyl sub-900cc bike in the same race as a sub-600cc 4 cyl.

    I get the feeling this video will be addressing the difference between the way the manufacturers are approaching the Middle Weight sector.
    Faired Nakeds/sport touring might look like a supersports but they aren't and in some ways that's a good thing others, it kinda leaves you wanting just a bit more.
    Then there's the supersports, fantastic fun when you get your head down but every day riding can be a bit of a pain in the proverbial.
    Aprilia have put another spanner in the works have found a balance that might suit more people who want more of the best of both worlds. I mean there is the price of the price but it's a European bike, that's to be expected I suppose. This might just be a game changer in that aspect.

    Personally, I wasn’t all that confused with where the RS stood once it was announced. To me, it’s hard to find competitors because there aren’t any really, not yet at least. It’s sort of a new class of bike IMO, well, fills a particular niche. I lump BMW’s F900r in here as well, which I have. This sort of bike is down on power compared to supersports but when compared to middleweight bikes people would actually enjoy around town and in the twisties, it’s a huge step up from those as far as tech and components included. I came from a Ninja650 as my first bike and thoroughly enjoyed it as an all around, good enough for most sort of bike. Looked sporty but comfortable to commute on and fun enough for the weekend. The BMW however was a nice upgrade for me because it still served that use but provided Brembo brakes, more fine tuned suspension, and tech aids only matched by top end bikes. I don’t need top bike power, but I wanted top end tech and convenience. That’s how I see these latest crop of Aprilias. I’m hoping this spurs new bikes in a similar ilk from other manufacturers now 😁

Since I liked the ninja I thought I’ll just get the next size up in a super sport . But after all my research I found the Aprilio RS 660. Well no problem besides the fact the clutch lever broke and I needed to push him at lights. Great overview, though it does beg the question... Does a 100 BHP sporty bike NEED all that expensive tech? I'm inclined to still go with the CBR650R because of it's proven reliability and lower cost per BHP. It also helps that I love the look of the CBR, though the Aprilia is now my second favorite looker. Hopefully Aprilia will have incentives that bring the price closer to the CBR650R or they offer a lower cost stripped down version without all the tech for those of us that prefer ABS and little else.

      Honda is way too expensive for what it offers. Made in Thailand and has absolutely nothing to offer. You have to rev it so high to get any power and is heavy as an elephant. @@aprilthetortiecat807 I won't disagree that the CBR650R is overpriced, it should probably cost around $7,500. The same can be said for the CBR500R, which retails for $6,800 and should cost at least a grand less. Cost issues aside, I personally like that the CBR650R can rev higher and I prefer the inline 4 sound over parallel twins. The 650R has sufficient power down low for city and canyon riding but is also satisfying as engine speed builds. Most twins hit a fall off point around 8 to 9k where spinning any faster is a waste of time and stops being fun around 8k RPM. It seems like Aprilia have remedied some of the issues I have with parallel twins but I still think an I4 would be more my style. YMMV of course. Also, if I'm spending $11,300, I'm going get a Ninja 1000 SX. The Aprilia NEEDs to be less than $10k or I just don't see that many people buying it.

Covered with lots of nasty plastic, no longer made in Japan and left behind in electronics and safety features. CBR's brakes are just unacceptably soft. Its steel chassis is moo stiff and has no safety features. It has a very jerky torqie control.
      Most people think that it's still 1970 and Japanese bikes are the best. Japanese bikes sell only because of the past glories. CBR which is the best of Japanese bikes has no excitement and is too bland. You change the gear, to 2md 3rd 4th and you feel absolutely nothing. Throttle is on and off and you have to find an infinity long straight to get it go fast. RS660 on the other hand weighs less, has more power at lower rpm, more torque at lower rpm and is a high quality bike(RSV4 s measuring stick) Those Brembo 4.3 brakes makes a world of difference when it comes to stopping and you actually ride the bike with comfort. You know, if I wanted to buy a similar bike, it'd be the rs660. Lots of bike for the money. What engine configuration it has is totally irrelevant, how it makes you feed matters the most. I don't really have a problem with it being made outside Japan, though I do think it's greedy to charge Japanese production prices for bikes built in third world countries. Saving cost on labor should lower the MSRP significantly.
      I also don't disagree that the Aprilia RS660 is a great bike, I just think there needs to be a stripped version for around $9k without all the electronic nannies. 85 to 90 WHP can be managed by hand IMO, though rider assists might be nice for new riders who want to start with a bike they won't grow out of and live in a reasonable country without engine size limitations.

    Aprilia is aiming for white space between the entry level and the super sport middle-weights mentioned in the video, but also trying to hit white space around some more expensive bikes that were also aiming at customers who wanted a little more comfort with their sport bike (Ducati Supersport and Kawasaki Ninja 1000). Those bikes push somewhat into the sport-touring category, but many people won't use them that way, but as a sporty bike that doesn't kill your joints.
    Aprilia seems to be aiming between the CBR650R (close-ish power but much less sophisticated suspension and electronics) and the Ducati Supersport (more powerful, but similar levels of electronic goodies and chassis componentry). Here is the US, the RS660 also splits right down the middle in price.
    It is nice to see manufacturers coloring outside the lines. I haven't seen them coloring into territory that will get my butt on the seat of something, but that's a whole other discussion in a completely different category of motorcycle. Perhaps the upcoming Toureg will oblige, but I think it will be a nicer, Italian Tenere...which isn't bad, just not exactly what I am looking for.

    They speak about zx6r 636 like it is somehow bad for longer trips. I understand this is an Aprilia vid, but my experience that the 636 is much better than Ninja 650 since its Showa USD front thats much more stable on windy highways. Id like to hear how the Aprilia stands out in this respect, I feel much safer with the 636 than 650 on the road, and if the Aprilia is closer to the 650 I wouldnt propably buy it - maybe I just need to try it out myself.

      the F3 bikes are quite race-oriented, more like the R6 and CBR600RR: relatively uncomfortable on the street, making power quite high in the rev range etc

    the only problem with Aprilia is the service. They dont respect warranty and you have to wait weeks and weeks for your bike to get fixed. Buyer beware. I had to sell mine out of desperation.

    So I really feel there are blurred lines for what people actually want. So I think the most direct competitor is the ktm 790, yamaha mt09. Yeah they lack the fairing but both more comfortable position, ktm has a lot of electronics. And both those can be fitted with more wind protection. I think people are going to find it under powered compared to other options. I ride and love my aprilia just feel this bike might have mist the mark a little.

    A comparison that doesn’t make any sense!Different typology of bikes ad the same Aprilia explained and also even ad a “ blind “ can see just looking at the bike...
    Maybe and if ... Aprilia launches another version , track oriented, then we can talk

      Probably similar to the CBR600RR. If you sit as far forward as the seat will let you it's very comfortable, like riding a little R3. If you sit all the way back you are put into a race position.

    I just bought a Ducati V4S 2020 and i want this bike! I used to own an 18 RSV4 RF so i absolutely love the brand and the bikes, this excites me and given my Ducati is a fraking super dragon burning me with its fire breath every chance it gets. This would be a nice option for a harmless ride. LOL Dont get me wrong i love the V4, i wanted the new RSV4 Factory but they didnt upgrade the front end, the lights...i wanted all that. But id buy this and be a happy two owner rider.

    Aprilia may not have been too well known before but, give it a couple years with the RS being out and the Tuono 660 and Touareg 660 and I think they could find themselves being the most desirable brand on earth! Lol, they already are for me as I have an '08 Shiver 750, '09 Mana 850, '07 SR50R Factory and '14 SR50R Factory (both scooters fully upgraded)!!

    I'm sure of one not very obvious rival,
    Triumph Street Tripple !
    Maybe more of a rival for the upcoming 660 Tuono but I'm sure few would be split between these 2.
    Similar price range, non Japanese, loaded with technology...

    I'll take the 650 Ninja over the 660 if you also give me the difference in money.
    The 650 Ninja is plenty for the street and way more reliable.

      Simone Di Giuseppe - Its a European bike. It will perform well but it WILL give you problems.
      Same as European cars.
      If you want reliability AND performance, buy Japanese.

      Kawasaki will be cheaper to maintain and replace parts. I track my rsv4 rf for a whole year with zero issues so i dont know where the reliability issue comes from? i also track my 899 for a whole year and the only issues were recalls paid for by ducati. I also had to deal with recalls with my ninja 300 and grom. For some reason, i dont have much issues with any of my bikes, I track and weekend ride them all year round.
