My r1 feels like a pig compared to my r6 which is why the r6 is more fun to ride. Yes the quickshifter is garbage on the R7, clutchless shifting was smoother. You have some good points on the ZX4RR. The sound and the up and down quick shifter are the two biggest things for me. The biggest cons: the price and the lack of adjustable suspension. You can at least fit the R7 to your weight. The price is cheaper than the Kawasaki too with the suspension. Plus it has more HP and torque. Something you have to re-flash and get a full exhaust for ZX4RR to release its full potential. I have the Ninja 400 and for the price, I would take it all day over the ZX4RR. With the extra money, you could fully prep it out and make it just as fun. Yeah the down auto blip shifts would not happen but still...I think I would take the Aprillia RS 660 over both of them because of the complete package it is for just a couple grand more! Have I ridden an R7, RS660 or ZX4RR no so what the hell do I know, lol! Thats what we have you for!! Thanks for showing us!
You bring up some good points. However, yes, the suspension is adjustable on the R7, the issue is that its bottom of the bin yamaha parts. No matter how much adjustment you did, it never responded. The r7 is not a bad bike, it just needs major improvement and leaves you wanting more. 😉 Yamaha could have done it better than they did.
Haha yea I love my 660 I just don't love its maintenance requirements. And man the n400 is still a really good bike I agree with you on that, I loved mine and tracked it soo good! But really it's the sound and qs that just make it so intoxicating to ride.
What, lack of adjustable suspension? It has adjustable suspension both in the rear and in the front. It has the same rear shock as the ZX10R. You got something mixed up.
The adjustment on the front fork is minimal, I had it at the track last weekend and had it adjusted throughout the day. Even the suspension guy said it only has one real adjustment for the forks and they basically suck. The rear shock however is nice
A great video Scout, really awesome how you set up the video and ride the motorbike through the beautiful landscape the whole time. Thanks for the information, it was very interesting. Have a great Sunday and ride on buddy🤙
You're going to freak out after you get the ECU flash man it changes the entire bike. Noticeably faster in the saddle on high RPMs like the rush doesnt just fall off at 11k anymore.
I havent revved it to 11k+ yet but I'm excited to. I'm still breaking the bike in with around 500+ miles on it. About to change the oil and clean the chain soon.
I bought the zx4rr for the sound. the 4cyl sport bikes sound amazing. idc about speed, track performace none of that. i like the look of sport bikes and the sound. in my opinion all the 2 cyl bikes sound like crap, not really a fan of the tripple either.
I hear ya on that, it was hard for me to ride around on my ninja 400 due to the lame sound. I refused to put an exhaust on to make that sound even louder lol.
Really intrigued by the zx4rr. I just really love the r7 around town. So much more usable power. But I totally see what your talking about with engine braking. Taking me some getting used to. Taking the r7 to the track tomorrow. hoping to get time on a 4rr soon! Your video definitely has me interested.
yea man its just been a bike I've wanted for ever. I used to wish Honda would bring that inline for CBR 250 lol...hell yea man trackdays are sick! which one you hitting up?
@dustinbjohnson if ducati can get 108 hp out of a 749cc two cylinder bike in 2006, I really see no reason why the gsx8r shouldn't have comparable power in 2024... 77hp is pathetic, and it weighs 450 pounds. You're simping for a shit bike. Sounds like what you're really looking for is a scooter
@@ScoutsOuta 250cc inline four. You people advocate for shit products. An "engine" with the power output of a fucking rock. Just walk. You'd get to the finish line faster that way. Stop promoting little baby bikes just because you're too scared to get on a real one.
I’m really torn between these two bikes currently. I’m not 100% sold on the price tag of the ZX4RR, even though I think that it’s an awesome bike. This will also be my first bike, so I feel like I should be looking for a used bike instead
Yea a used ninja 400 for a fist bike is definitely the safest bet for beginner and if you drop it a few times it will hurt a little less that a 10k brand new bike for sure
If you don't spend time on the highway as much, then the R7 or the ZX4RR is a great bike. If you spend more on highways, just opt for the ZX6R. But if you are a new rider and can't opt for the ZX6R (too big of a bike) then the ZX4RR is plenty to train you. Especially, after a ECU tune/flash, it is almost close to the ZX6R stock.
get used ninja 400 get good at riding then in 2 or so yrs hunt for good used zx4rr or r7 prices will be better used, but decision on r7 or zx4rr still a bitch LOL
The problem with the 4rr is you have to spend a lot of money to get all the power they claim it to have. Flash the ecu and exhaust. All ive seen is a slip on for them.
I know I'm a year late on this but because Ken cums in a different box😂 I'm looking to get my first bike and I'm battling between the r7 and the ZX4RR. I'm really leaning to the Kawi because I eventually want to step up to the Z6R. My goal is our get on track and if I become skilled enough in a race!
lol cheesy joke, both are good bikes and better that your looking at them over a zx6r as your first bike. My suggestion if track riding and learning how to ride in general, you would be better suited to learn on a cheaper easy to ride and an amazing track bike to learn on is a ninja 400. Once you start doing track days you will realize you can learn so much more on the n400 that a bigger bike. You will be amazed at how many people will be out there on the track with ninja 400s and they will be destroying even decent riders on bigger bikes. Just my 2 cents
Rode Lav Mic amzn.to/3bHscXc I’ve been using that mic, what has made it work the best is cutting a small slit in the charco pad and installing it in the pad, hope this helps
Its not jut wheelbase that effects turn in, fork height does too, try raising the fork height on your r7 so they protrude above the top yoke and see how that feels, I've done that on many of my bikes to great success, I owned a cbr954 that handled ok stock, but I raised the forks by 10mm and put a 2mm washer between the top of the shock and the frame which raised the rear by about 9mm, and after that it handled amazingly, it basically felt like my old zxr400, just heavier, it felt a bit twitchy though, so I installed a steering damper. I also did something similar to my old rvf400, and tl1000s, which transformed how they handled too, the tl1000s was very sensitive to fork height for some reason, 10mm was way to much, it actually felt worse, 2mm was the sweet spot, it may require trial and error.
rake trail tire size and profile and brand, many things affect handling. Where bike carries weight how high or low center of gravity is suspension settings, air pressures spring rates etc, it takes a guru and yrs of experience to tune suspension and stuff to make bikes handle good and depends big time on riders size weight and style of riding.
The only think why i wouldn't want the r7 is because ergonomics. i have back problems and i don't know how bad it is for me being in a uncomfortable position a lot of time. Because if i had a bike is for daily driving it.
debating on getting anniversary one. Have a mint zx7r with 20 grand in it.. do you think this bike would be a better track bike ? appreciate any comments on this
Ergonomically which is more comfortable? I know you changed the rearsets on the r7 from stock so im curious to know about the ninja compared to the r7.
Scout I got my hands on a zx4rr as my first motorcycle(thanks to you) I have a load of questions that I have about the bike that I need an answer from someone who owns the bike and someone who isn’t trying to get money out of me!
@ScoutsOut hey mate, love the 400 screamers(have an nc35 rvf400) so forever interested in the zx4rr but questioning whether on not a slightly older(20-23) zx6r might be worth a go instead- any idea how they fare against each other? obviously more grunt but any other noteworthy differences?
I had a 2018 zx6r, I liked the bike but never felt that comfortable throwing it around I just never really bobbed with the bike. The little 4rr is so easy to through around and blast through the gears without always breaking the law lol
One thing I haven't heard or read about is the difference in the cost of insurance between the two bikes. I'm trying to decide between these two bikes as my upgrade from the grom. I'm really liking the zx4rr overall between the two, however, if I knew the insurance was less it would help me even more with my decision.
That’s a hard one for me to answer. I have 6 bikes currently on the same policy and my son so I’m not sure how much they would be individually. What I do know is with my insurance they go by cc’s, so I would say the r7 will be higher in insurance. My insurance went up when I bought my r7 and got ride if my 636
Im looking for a motorcycle and im stuck on a zx6r or zx4rr cause a ecu flashed zx4rr with a full exhaust would be so fun but a zx6r stock i think would be better for highways (i have alot of highways near me and thats how i get almost everywhere lol) so idk
It’s a hard decision. The 6 will definitely be better for longer hauls on the freeway, but I will say the four Does Handle Freeway quite well both to get a lot of power need to be dropped at least two gears. In my opinion. Let me know what you end up getting.
I was thinking something like that. I could see it's shadows so I knew it was real, somehow. Like an 170 degree camera. It looks like a video game. I enjoy your videos. Thank you very much for your reply.@@ScoutsOut All the best, stay safe. I saw your Ring! okay it is 360 degree! That's crazy but as an old photographer from the 70's I have to stretch my mind on that. In 1967. I was 13 and went to the "Worlds' Fair" in Montreal. That was famous.. They had a lot of strange theaters. One of which was 360 degrees around the large auditorium. That was fun as a kid. I did really awesome 3D art that can be found as 3dmacphee or 3dfantasys on the web. Double images.
@@ScoutsOut yeah get a cruiser or standard bike not even 1000cc sportbike hwy riding is more fun on standard sit up type bike, tucking is for cornering
Perfect no, the n400 is a better beginner bike but if your set in the inline 4 for you first bike the 4rr is a much safer and better option that the gsxr 600 for a first bike
Insurance is absurd for that 4RR. I almost bought one. Until I got insurance quotes. It is between 260 to 650 per month!!!! For a 400 cc bike.... Ya, let that one soke in. And I have a flawless driving record and am over 40. I really am not sure why Motorcycle reviews don't mention this before praising the bike so much. If they did, I feel the views would never get as high as they are.
@@ScoutsOut Just curious, you say a decent rate? The best I got from 5 insurance companies was 260 per month with a 1,000 dollar deductible full coverage. Now, if I paid cash and only liability then ya, it is cheap.
@@sergioelixavide3182 That's better but still outrageous for a tiny little 400cc bike. A Kawasaki Z900 is 52.00 per month. A Honda CB1000R was 56.00 per month. Doesn't make any sense. A bike is only worth so much, and worth far less than cars or trucks. Motorcycle insurance should literally be almost zero.
Have you tried the other dash display mode on the 4 with the lap timer? Not ever riding both if I was going to pick one I'd take the 7, the engine braking I see as a plus and would rather torque around then rev to the moon, the sound is so much more pleasant, not a fan of a headache if you don't wear ear plugs, 600's always made me cringe that's why I never had one 😂 Best sounding bike is the new gen R1's ohhhhh that is music to the ears and of course Ducati's!
No I actually haven't but I need to. I agree the r7 and it's torque is more fun on the streets for sure and the zx4rr screaming sound does start to get to me, it really is a little to pound even with just the slip on. Yea man the r1 sound is just ridiculously good
The Yamaha R7 is a faster better handling bike. Does it sound as good no but I have and my seven is faster and they are both tuned and piped and have intake systems.
the reasons you like this more than the R7 are the same reasons i would prefer the R7, i like low end grunt over high revving power and i want engine braking, that way i don't have to use the brakes all the time, i can just downshift but opinions differ i guess :p
Yea, its nice to have bikes with such different characteristics to chose from, i dont mind some engine braking but for track and some aggressive back road riding i personally want control with the brakes.
@@ScoutsOut I’ll be honest i don’t have much time spent on a motorcycle, only just got my license and haven’t been riding yet but i had my lessons and rode my friends bike a bit, i just think I’d pefer the engine braking because i like to downshift in my car instead of braking too so just habit I guess
@@ScoutsOut seems like it for sure. I was referring to the roads you were on. I lived in Redding Ca for a long time and that scenery look seemed liked what i remember about those back roads. Cool review
@@ScoutsOut I own the RS 660; I’m thinking to trade it for the ZX4RR. However, as I mainly street ride, I desire the relaxed upright position the Tuono provides. How is the comfortability of the Kawasaki, decent compared to the Tuono? The RS660 would have similar ergonomics to the ZX4RR I believe, and this is my only hesitation. I love the idea of the smooth turbine inline 4 compared to the amazing twin in the Aprilia. Thank you
@@sako-xb2bq I’ve only sat on the rs but I would say compared to the zx4rr the rs is very much so in a race position where the 4rr is much more comfortable. As for the sound and feel it’s really hard to compare a twin to an inline 4. The sound of the 660 is really good and exhilarating but you cannot beat that inline 4 sound. The main issue with the 4rr is the heavy decrease in power when stock is painful. I did bower make videos on removtthe restriction and it’s much better but really until you get real mods the 660 is still faster without mods at least from a feeling perspective. Hope this helps
I still got it and ride it most days. It's down right now till I get new tires for it, I was dumb and pushed it till steel is showing. I'm going to pull them off Monday and get a new set
I mean technically you can lose your license on a R3 and even a Grom, but you definitely lose it in a heartbeat on a R7. The 4RR isn't slow by any means, but it's not so fast that you can't use it.
flashed is 70 hp 140 mph top end plenty fast vs r7 when ecu flashed. r7 is no 1000, that is a license killer zx4rr flashed is equal to r7 in all speed categories stock it is 50 hp flashed 200 bucks is like 72 equal to the R7. My old zx6 eats a r7 so license is only in jeopardy depending on rider, you act as if R7 is a beast zx10 hyabusa are beasts r7 nice mid level quick but no rocket bike. My older zx6 has 130 hp almost double r7 okay so back down jr you are not on a super bike
R7 is definitely not a beast by any means. I sold my 636 after getting the r7 as I just enjoyed the bike better but that goes back to style of riding I like. But so true tickets come from riders not the bike lol
@@ScoutsOut yes took me a few yrs in youth to realize it but I will say a sport bike especially red and yellow bright colors do attract more cops attention than I liked, now fat I was flying could not have had a thing to do with them picking on me LOL Got smart quick, go out into country no cops no traffic much safer to speed there no cars no tickets.
R7 and zx4rr weigh literally the same. While the zx4rr has more hp (unrestricted), the r7 does have more torque. However, zx4rr has better electronics, suspension, ergos, sound. They're not even in the same category, the R7 is more like a grown up R3, a sport bike. The zx4rr is like a smaller zx6r, a supersport. You said "much less power" without providing any numbers when the zx4rr actually has more hp, so better top end. I don't know if you're ignorant by choice or by choice cuz a simple google search would give you your answer.
Of course the ZX4RR is better than the R7. Any inline-4 is going to be better than a buzzy, rattly, out-of-balance, cheap, shitty, only-made-to-meet-emissions parallel twin in an overpriced package.

It's awesome that the zx4rr is the bike of choice right now.
Hell yea dude this thing is a ton of fun
@ScoutsOut I've never had a desire to go above my zx6r. I'm jealous of the zx4rr.
@@ScoutsOut Utah motorcycle campus. Same one I rode years ago on my 600. Really excited to see how the r7 feels on track 🍻
@@dustinbjohnson nice dude, let me know how the day goes that’s going to be awesome
Well said!
get used ninja 400 get good at riding then in 2 or so yrs hunt for good used zx4rr or r7 prices will be better used, but decision on r7 or zx4rr still a bitch LOL
The 4rr is not a beginner bike. It's pricey and doesn't have the torque for daily riding
The problem with the 4rr is you have to spend a lot of money to get all the power they claim it to have. Flash the ecu and exhaust. All ive seen is a slip on for them.
yea, you really have to like the bike and want it for sure its not cheap
@@ScoutsOut I appreciate that!
Hey bud what mic you using? Need help buying something worth it!!! Yours sounds very good!!!
Rode Lav Mic amzn.to/3bHscXc
I’ve been using that mic, what has made it work the best is cutting a small slit in the charco pad and installing it in the pad, hope this helps
Nice, good info! I might just have to try that out on the r7!
rake trail tire size and profile and brand, many things affect handling. Where bike carries weight how high or low center of gravity is suspension settings, air pressures spring rates etc, it takes a guru and yrs of experience to tune suspension and stuff to make bikes handle good and depends big time on riders size weight and style of riding.
Yea for sure, I’ve never been good with tuning suspension it’s like voodoo to me lol
The only think why i wouldn't want the r7 is because ergonomics. i have back problems and i don't know how bad it is for me being in a uncomfortable position a lot of time. Because if i had a bike is for daily driving it.
Yea not a great daily driver
debating on getting anniversary one. Have a mint zx7r with 20 grand in it.. do you think this bike would be a better track bike ? appreciate any comments on this
O don’t know about better but I wouldn’t want to risk messing up that zx7r
Ergonomically which is more comfortable? I know you changed the rearsets on the r7 from stock so im curious to know about the ninja compared to the r7.
Zx4rr by a long shot, but also one of my negatives about the 4rr it's almost upright like a ninja 400
Scout I got my hands on a zx4rr as my first motorcycle(thanks to you) I have a load of questions that I have about the bike that I need an answer from someone who owns the bike and someone who isn’t trying to get money out of me!
Hell yea bro anytime man send it!
Nice video , honest review ,why did I know my bike would lose out.........👍😁
Those are just some reasons people might like it better much more to come!
Just bought a black ZX4-RR. They didn't have any green ones :(
Congrats the black looks good to though
@@ScoutsOut yeah and at least I can change the plastics
For sure, let me know what you end up doing
I want it as a track bike only. No street!
Yea it’s perfect for that. So many good track parts coming out for it
any oil leaks from valve gasket from ur zx4rr so far? my friend tod its the common issue?
No not at all nor have i heard that yet, ill start keeping an eye on it now.
I think that's more of a Ninja 400 issue.
Great review
Thank you! I appreciate that
One thing I haven't heard or read about is the difference in the cost of insurance between the two bikes.
My insurance went up when I bought my r7 and got ride if my 636
My insurance for my R7 is $14 and some change a month and this is my first bike
Damn that’s good, what insurance are you using?
@@ScoutsOut progressive been using them for car insurance for like 7 years now
Sweet, I might have to try and get a quote
Im looking for a motorcycle and im stuck on a zx6r or zx4rr cause a ecu flashed zx4rr with a full exhaust would be so fun but a zx6r stock i think would be better for highways (i have alot of highways near me and thats how i get almost everywhere lol) so idk
It’s a hard decision. The 6 will definitely be better for longer hauls on the freeway, but I will say the four Does Handle Freeway quite well both to get a lot of power need to be dropped at least two gears. In my opinion. Let me know what you end up getting.
lol odd question but what are those knee sliders? Are they just regular work knee pads?
Lol nah they are actual knee pads with some protection and pucks imp.i104546.net/3e96mk
How do you generate those freaky shots from behind the bike?
Hey David! It’s a insta360 x3 on an extension pole www.insta360.com/sal/x3?INRANDJ
Thanks, they are fun to use for some broll. I would love to spend more time shooting more photos that have been fun making 3D renders to, 🍻
Depends on what you want in a bike
Definitely, I know if I lived in a place with long street he’s of wide open roads and very little twisty back roads to ride I would want more power
@@ScoutsOut yeah get a cruiser or standard bike not even 1000cc sportbike hwy riding is more fun on standard sit up type bike, tucking is for cornering
Yea for sure, I just ride my comfy klr 650 to work on the highway everyday tucking for 45 min to work one way gets old quick lol
I don't give a shit about comparisons, but God damn do I love my ZX-4RR.
Haha, yea bro isn’t it a freaking blast every time you ride it lol
@ScoutsOut every time! Had it less than a month. I only wish I recorded my first reaction.
I bet, bro your excitement was probably insane!
Do you think it’s the perfect beginner bike? Cuz i already decided I’m not getting a regular 400 if anything I’m getting a gsxr 600
Perfect no, the n400 is a better beginner bike but if your set in the inline 4 for you first bike the 4rr is a much safer and better option that the gsxr 600 for a first bike
Stay under 10k RPM and you have a very good beginner bike with opinion for more
Yup, it’s like having two different bikes
@scoutsout have you gotten your ECU back? Cant wait to hear about your thoughts.
Dude i just pulled it out and mailed it yesterday, so excited man, im sure I’m going to love it
@@ScoutsOut would love to see a video of the ECU reinstall
For sure, I just did one on removal. Install is coming to
Insurance is absurd for that 4RR.
You have to shop around, my first few quotes were insane. I got a decent rate now just had to pay the year in advance
@@ScoutsOut
Just curious, you say a decent rate?
The best I got from 5 insurance companies was 260 per month with a 1,000 dollar deductible full coverage. Now, if I paid cash and only liability then ya, it is cheap.
mine is $171 with full coverage
@@sergioelixavide3182
That's better but still outrageous for a tiny little 400cc bike. A Kawasaki Z900 is 52.00 per month. A Honda CB1000R was 56.00 per month. Doesn't make any sense. A bike is only worth so much, and worth far less than cars or trucks. Motorcycle insurance should literally be almost zero.
Wow, for a person who loved the r7.
Still love my r7, and now I’m thinking of making it a track bike
That will be good to see.
You've almost convinced me to buy one 😁 ps I also liked the joke lol
Haha yea man they are a blast to ride
Yea man the r1 sound is just ridiculously good
Number six: the ergonomy
Haha yea, I actually bent the stock clip ons tying it down and just got some new ones that would help ergos a lot
The Yamaha R7 is a faster better handling bike. Does it sound as good no but I have and my seven is faster and they are both tuned and piped and have intake systems.
of course its better than the R7, it doesn't sound like a lawn mower ...
No doubt it sounds so much better
My guy, what backpack are you sporting??
It’s a camelback, they have been making pretty good backpacks nowadays
the reasons you like this more than the R7 are the same reasons i would prefer the R7, i like low end grunt over high revving power and i want engine braking, that way i don't have to use the brakes all the time, i can just downshift but opinions differ i guess :p
Yea, its nice to have bikes with such different characteristics to chose from, i dont mind some engine braking but for track and some aggressive back road riding i personally want control with the brakes.
@@ScoutsOut I’ll be honest i don’t have much time spent on a motorcycle, only just got my license and haven’t been riding yet but i had my lessons and rode my friends bike a bit, i just think I’d pefer the engine braking because i like to downshift in my car instead of braking too so just habit I guess
what exhaust you are using mate?

SCOUTS OUT HUA!
Haha yes sir!
can you compare this with the tuono/rs 660 please?
Yea that’s a good idea, I will try and get some thing out soon

I mean technically you can lose your license on a R3 and even a Grom, but you definitely lose it in a heartbeat on a R7.
The 4RR isn't slow by any means, but it's not so fast that you can't use it.
For sure you can get tickets on anything, but that's what I really like about it to, I can still have some fun without always breaking the law
flashed is 70 hp 140 mph top end plenty fast vs r7 when ecu flashed. r7 is no 1000, that is a license killer zx4rr flashed is equal to r7 in all speed categories stock it is 50 hp flashed 200 bucks is like 72 equal to the R7.
@@ScoutsOut yes took me a few yrs in youth to realize it but I will say a sport bike especially red and yellow bright colors do attract more cops attention than I liked, now fat I was flying could not have had a thing to do with them picking on me LOL Got smart quick, go out into country no cops no traffic much safer to speed there no cars no tickets.
a non American zx4rr is literally as fast as an r7 and sounds just waaaay better. R7 has the worst sound out of the box ever on a bike
There actually was a pregnant Barbie doll BUT they discontinued it because they feared promoting teen pregnancy. Anyways haha good video nonetheless 😊
Ouch, guess I didn’t think that dad joke through on all angles 😬
Mmmmm, I think your reaching with this one but everyone is entitled to their own opinion I guess.
Haha in two ways.
Except the Kawasaki comes in the worst color imaginable XD
Maybe I am bias because of my R7 :P
But I am still really waiting for the ZX4RR vs R7 track shootout. Would love to know what is actually faster. And my feeling is it is the R7.
Totally biased but the blue R7 does look better. I personally like the ZX4RR KRT colors
Yea the colors of the 4rr have brown on me but I'd still rather have all black that is coming out at the end of the year. So far the r7 is much faster
Yea they really did, I’m not a fan of green but man it looks good
Only girls played with Barbie
Lol
it weights just as much as a 600 with much less power... it just doesn't make sense.
Yea stats make it hard to understand, you gotta ride it to enjoy what it is
Neither does the r7 if you really think about it.
Im bout to start playing ride4 ... I will let you know which one is better.
Haha looking forward to the results
no
Haha yea man, I’m considering a track build for the r7 right now
R7 All Day
Why?
Of course the ZX4RR is better than the R7. Any inline-4 is going to be better than a buzzy, rattly, out-of-balance, cheap, shitty, only-made-to-meet-emissions parallel twin in an overpriced package.
🤷🏻♂️
Si no anda en la R7 así sea prestada para el video no tiene gracia
True, but I still own both. Now my r7 is a track bike only and I ride the 4rr on the street
